View post:

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Saturday (July 13) parts of Manhattan was hit by a blackout that left some New Yorkers feeling like it was 2003 all over again. Over the weekend, Cardi B , Offset , friends, and family didn’t let the power shutting off while celebrating their daughter, Kulture’s 1st birthday party ruin the moment. View this post on Instagram This the only good picture I can find with me and my baby matching outfit. Thank @itsjeremyscott @moschino for this beautiful custom outfits .I swear i really really was thing to get a good pic A post shared by MOSTHATEDCARDI (@iamcardib) on Jul 14, 2019 at 7:29pm PDT Cardi and her husband made sure the party remained lit despite it being impacted by the power outage that saw a large area of NYC go dark. Cardi took to her favorite social media medium, Instagram to thank friends and family for helping to turn what could have been a significant negative into a positive. “ The fact that I wanted my daughter party in 42nd street instead of Jersey and to my fucking luck New York had a power outage right on that Deum area!!BITCH THE DEVIL! but WOW how a negative situation turn into a LITUATION !!!” When the lights went it out, the crowd stuck around with the power returning just in time for the cake cutting ceremony. Offset shared videos of the now 1-year-old ceremoniously sitting in a pile of colorful birthday cake while surrounded by guests. Cardi took time out of her day to praise those who powered through having to deal with no air conditioning and other stressful conditions that could have seriously made the special day a logistical nightmare.   View this post on Instagram   The fact that I wanted my daughter party in 42nd street instead of Jersey and to my fucking luck New York had a power outage right on that Deum area!!BITCH THE DEVIL! but WOW how a negative situation turn into a LITUATION !!!Omg I had soooooo much fuckin fun and my daughter as well .Thank ya sooo much everybody that came ,I know my daughter won’t remember this day but when she older and have her kids this will be a good story to tell lols.I will be daydream this day for ma long .Ok I’m exhausted nobody hit me till like 2pm . LHHNY’s Brittney Taylor Offered Plea Deal In Assault Case (Exclusive)

Source: Patricia Schlein/WENN.com / WENN Rapper Turned Reality Star Says She Did Not Attack Witness To Alleged Assault Involving Remy Ma “Love & Hip Hop: New York” starlet Brittney Taylor has been offered a no-jail plea deal following her arrest last month for allegedly assaulting a witness in her separate assault case against Remy Ma. Taylor was in Manhattan Criminal Court Monday for a hearing on the assault rap, where cops charged her after she allegedly scratched her alleged victim Dina Khalil and threw a cell phone at her face during an early morning argument. Prosecutors offered to drop the assault charge in exchange for Taylor pleading guilty to harassment in the second degree, a violation, along with a conditional discharge and order of protection between her and Khalil. But the Manhattan DA’s office said that Taylor rejected the plea deal and the case is now scheduled to go to trial next month. Following the hearing, Taylor’s lawyer Sanford Rubenstein told us that they are now mulling the deal, but also would be pushing to have the case thrown out. He added that Taylor’s assault case doesn’t negate that Remy Ma allegedly pummelled her. “Nothing in this case changes any of the facts with regard to the allegations of assault by Brittney Taylor against Remy Ma,” Rubenstein said. Taylor accused Remy Ma of slugging her earlier this summer at a concert at Irving Plaza in NYC, and cops later charged her with assault. Remy Ma is due back in court this week.

Dear Black Women: California Just Passed An Act To Help Protect Your Crown

See the original post:

Source: filadendron / Getty Speaking to many women with natural hair in America, the way you wear your hair to work can be a source of anxiety and sometimes even trauma. There is pressure to wear ones’ hair straight, which is often deemed “presentable” in the work. Whether it’s navigating how to wear your hair for an interview or changing your hair into box braids for summer only not to be recognized by your co-workers, natural hair in the workplace is unnecessarily stressful. Well, now, California is helping you deal with that. California lawmakers have passed The CROWN Act, a bill to protect Black employees and students by outlawing discrimination against people with natural hairstyles like afros, dreadlocks, braids, and twists. The bill states, “The history of our nation is riddled with laws and societal norms that equated ‘blackness’ and the associated physical traits, for example, dark skin, kinky and curly hair to a badge of inferiority.” The bill shines light (and protection) on the fact that European aesthetics have been the standard for beauty and have unfairly targeted Black workers and students more than any other group. The CROWN Act stands for ‘Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair. While there were no “no” votes, Sen. Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles told NPR , “I have no idea why they abstained.” There were 10 politicians that chose not to vote on the bill including Frank Bigelow, Joe Cervantes, Steve Cooley, Duke Cunningham, James Gallagher, Tom Lackey, Monique Limon, Evan Low, Kevin McCarty and Melissa Melendez. While it wasn’t important to them, it was important to Mitchell, who told NPR, “The sheer volume of women and men and parents of students who have been sent home because someone deems their braids, twists, or locs were inappropriate for workplace settings, the sheer volume of people, suggests this clearly is a law whose time has come.” Dove was criticized in 2017 for a body lotion ad featuring a Black woman who took off her shirt to become a white woman, has supported this bill. The brand has also been working diligently for more representation, partnering with Getty Images and more. New York and New Jersey has proposed similar legislation. In February, NYC enacted its own policy protecting afros, braids, fades and other black hairstyles. We hope more states take a look at the CROWN Act and start to enact their own legislation. Rihanna Short Dress of the Day

Rihanna in her short dress to attend her Fenty Pop-Up I don’t know but the braids look familiar.. Is that racist? You can never be too sure in this era of everyone being so uptight and sensitive and pussies when it comes to racism and appropriation…. But for some reason they are not uptight about sex work…that probably got Rihanna to the top selling artist she is….. It just doesn’t make sense that a 14 year old who couldn’t sing was brought to NYC from Barbados….. There was a video years ago from Rihanna’s high school, where she sang, and she fucking SUCKED….so hard that NO ONE would have said “Let’s export her”… Some illuminati pedo shit must have been involved… Island girl, who is getting a museum in Barbados, despite the locals hating her and her low class ways, even though she put them back on the map as more than just a tax haven for people from the UK….andI know she’s from the islands and not Africa…and that her family may have been plantation slaves for the purpose of Sugar Cane….but that was a long time ago and not what they are now….I mean her dad was a hard working garbage man… Point being, her thighs are big….and she looks like shit… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! Desna Is A Stiletto Nails Kinda Girl, But Niecy Nash Prefers A Coffin Shape

Original post:

Source: NBC / Getty Niecy Nash’s fierce character Desna might be a stiletto shape nail girl, but Niecy Nash, in her real life, is a coffin shape nail kinda girl. The Claws star hosted an intimate lunch for NYC media, where she opened up about how Desna’s nail shape correlates to her fiery personality and why she loves being pampered. “I’m a coffin girl in my real life,” she revealed. “But Desna is a stiletto. We all have a different nail shape on the show. Virgina is coffin. Polly is oval. Jen is square and Ann is more natural — a very short length. We all have a different nail on the show that speaks to our personalities. But in my real life, I’m much more of a coffin girl.” Niecy’s biggest co-stars are her nails, which means they require a lot of attention. To care for her natural nails, Niecy has been wearing custom press-ons during her press runs. “It puts a lot of wear and tear on your nails when you’re on a show like this. My natural nails, I’ve been wearing them a lot more often. For my press run I do my custom press-ons just to give them a break.” View this post on Instagram Too much fun in these streets! I work so much and it’s not just the acting, it’s the care for the people even when you’re not on set.” With such a busy schedule, “to be able to have a beat to have someone take care of you, I sign up for it.” Claws airs every Sunday at 9pm on TNT. Central Park Five: Korey Wise Reveals Why He Stayed In New York City — Even After Being Falsely Incarcerated [Video]

Source: John Lamparski / Getty Korey Wise Answers Questions At “When They See Us” Premiere The depiction of Korey Wise’s prison experience was a tough pill to swallow in Netflix’s “ When They See Us “! After all that the falsely accused man went through, he was the only one of his peers arrested during that fateful time who remained in NYC after they were released and cleared of charges. The other five guys migrated south. But why did Korey stay? He tells BlackTree TV, its simple math: “This is my roots. I can’t speak for no other. This is my roots. This my home. I have no problem visiting, but this is my home.” After his release, Korey partakes in the Innocence Project to help free more innocent incarcerated folks like him.
