Ellen DeGeneres Pays Tribute to Late Father

It may be the job of Ellen DeGeneres to make people laugh on a daily basis, but the talk show host was sadly forced to turn serious on Thursday. For the saddest of reasons: Because her father passed away at the age of 92. Ellen broke this news to her viewers in a moving tribute to her dad, Elliott, which followed a long talk with Oprah Winfrey about the fatal mudslides in their home town. “In addition to what’s going on in Monetico, I lost my dad this week,” DeGeneres said, fighting back tears as she spoke. “He was 92 years old.  He had a good, long life. And he lived his life exactly how he wanted. He was Christian science his entire life. He never had medicine his whole life. “He never went to a doctor. We never had a vaccination. We never had medicine growing up and he lived to be 92.” Continued the comedian: “He was very proud of me. He loved this show. He was a kind man, very accepting man. “There was not one bone of judgment in his body. He was very funny … Before he passed away I got to talk to him, so I got to say goodbye to him.” We don't know the exact cause of death in this case. But the man was 92 years old. As you can see immediately above and below, Ellen also paid tribute to her father on Twitter yesterday. “It wasn't unexpected,” Ellen added on Instagram. “I was able to say goodbye. When I was a kid, my dad took us on one vacation to Warner Bros. Studios. He loved this business. He loved that I was in it. “When he died, I saw this rainbow over the stage they named for me.” Previously, Ellen has said the following to Winfrey: “So many times over the past 15 years, people have come up to me and say to me that when they're going through a tough time this show gets them through it. “Today, I need you because there's a lot going on in my life right now.” Our thoughts are with Ellen's family at this time. Radiohead Postpone European Shows After Stage Collapse

Band postpones shows in Italy, Germany and Switzerland after a stage collapse killed its drum tech and destroyed some of its light show and equipment. By Gil Kaufman Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Photo: Radiohead have been forced to postpone a string of seven European tour dates in the continuing fallout from a June 17 stage collapse
at Toronto’s Downsview Park that took the life of their drum tech, Scott Johnson.
“As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members,” read a statement from the band released on Thursday (June 21). “The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.” In addition to grieving for their friend and those injured in the accident, the band has been forced to deal with “many practical considerations” that have caused them to postpone a series of shows. Among those affected is a June 30 date at the Hippodrome Capanelle in Rome, as well as six other European dates in Italy, Germany and Switzerland that run through July 9. The band said they are going to try to reschedule the show, with the goal of naming new dates for them on June 27. The current plan is to start playing live again on July 10 at Les Arenes in Nimes, France. Inspectors from Ontario’s Ministry of Labour have been inspecting the wreckage to determine the cause of the collapse but have yet to release their findings. Related Artists Radiohead

Kate Gosselin: The Worst Dancer Ever

Last night’s Dancing with the Stars finale saw the coronation of a new champion, and also the return of some memorable cast members who aren’t quite as good. When it comes to rhythm, Kate Gosselin is the anti-Nicole Scherzinger. While we give her credit for trying, last night’s effort was LOL worthy … especially the end. The reality TV mom returned to the stage Tuesday after shilling for the revamped Kate Plus 8 and the new Twist of Kate (wonder if TLC paid for that ad) of course. It was not pretty. The only thing worse than her dancing is her relentless whining in rehearsal – even after she insists she wants to have a better attitude, no less. But the best part, however unintentionally? The end, in which Kate flew over the stage and stared awkwardly into a fish-eye lens. What was that supposed to be? Who the heck knows, but it’s worth repeated viewing … Kate Gosselin on DWTS Finale

Tim Urban’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ Wows ‘American Idol’ Judges

‘I can’t help falling in love with you, ‘ Ellen DeGeneres tells Urban after his Elvis cover. By Josh Wigler Tim Urban on “American Idol” Tuesday Photo: Fox Sometimes, it’s not always wisest to listen to words of wisdom; sometimes, it’s best to have faith in your own instincts. Such was the case with Texas-born Tim Urban on Tuesday night’s (April 13) “American Idol” when the singer lent his signature soulful voice to a subdued rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” during the latest round of competition. Season-eight finalist Adam Lambert served as the guest mentor for the Elvis-themed competition, urging Urban to tap into his falsetto voice for the conclusion of the song. But Urban resisted the advice and relied instead on his familiar tenor tone — a decision that clearly paid off, as his performance resulted in an outpouring of praise from the judges. “This may surprise you,” veteran judge Randy Jackson began, “but I actually liked it!” Ellen DeGeneres, in typically comical fashion, likened Urban’s “American Idol” trajectory to her first time drinking tequila — she had to take one shot, then another and another still before she decided that she liked it. In Urban’s case, the singer/guitarist struggled through several weeks in the bottom three before emerging so strongly with the night’s performance. “I can’t help falling in love with you, ” DeGeneres said at the conclusion of her appraisal. Kara DioGuardi told Urban that this was her “favorite Tim performance ever. It was authentic, real and from your heart.” She also commented on the fact that Urban remained seated through his performance, saying: “You didn’t have to do a lot — you didn’t have to move all over the stage — because it was that meaningful.” Urban’s performance was so well-received that even outgoing judge Simon Cowell paid the singer a high compliment, telling Urban that he went from “zero to hero in two weeks.” What did you think of Tim Urban’s performance on “American Idol”?
