Please Stop Giving Racist White Women Adorable Nicknames

I t started out as just another viral video: A white woman named Alison Ettel saw Jordan Rodgers, an African-American girl, selling water near AT&T Park in San Francisco. Rodgers was trying to earn money for a trip to Disneyland. Ettel was caught on camera calling 911 and the video was soon spread across social media. A meme was born . Alison Ettel, CEO of weed dispensary Treatwell Tinctures, calls the police on an 8-year-old girl for selling water. She profits from a drug that put so many people of color behind bars, yet still tries to harm a little black girl. For water. #PermitPatty pic.twitter.com/WJRzfJglhh — Eugene Gu, MD (@eugenegu) June 24, 2018 A few weeks later an Oakland woman called the police on a group of Black people having a cookout. Again, her face was plastered on every social media outlet, photoshopped in different scenarios and even parodied on SNL. She was given the moniker of BBQ Becky . At first, the seemingly weekly moments and memes doubled as mindless comedy combined with ways to shame the white women for their racism. But it’s time to stop it. Because, in the end, these nicknames and memes are only shielding white women from real consequences they should get for putting Black lives in danger. READ MORE: Cornerstone Caroline Investigated For Falsely Accusing Black Child Black people comprise roughly 13 percent of the United States population but make up more than 23 percent of people killed by police. Black men and women have 6.6 to 1 odds of being killed by police while unarmed. Police are more likely to use excessive force on Black people. And so on. So it’s clear that calling the police on a Black person is effectively putting that Black person’s life in danger. Everyone knows this, including the white people who erroneously call police on Black folks. White people who call the police on Black folks don’t just want us removed from their sidewalks or their parks or their cookouts or their neighborhoods. They want us dead. And they know that calling the police on us is going to heighten their chances of those dreams coming to fruition. Take, for instance, the story of Jeremiah Harvey. He was in a New York corner store when his backpack brushed up against a white woman named Teresa Klein. She called the police claiming that the boy groped her. She’s been given the nickname “ Cornerstore Caroline .” How adorable. The problem here is that Harvey calling the police for believing a boy groped her recalls the infamous case of Emmett Till , a boy accused of whistling at a white woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham . She alerted a mob of white men — not that far off from a modern-day police force, depending on whom you ask — who went on to lynch Till. Klein was engaging in a tried and true American tradition of using stereotypes of over-sexualized Black men to aid in the deaths of said Black men. This isn’t an act that should just garner alliterative nicknames and social media memes because that’s letting these perpetrators off the hook. Here’s a question? Without scrolling up, do you even remember Permit Patty’s real name? What about Cornerstone Caroline? Barbecue Becky? Giving them nicknames is providing aliases that cover the names of real women with real racist motivations to commit real harm to real Black people. America has functioned under the premise that white women are innately innocent and harmless in the history of anti-Black violence despite overwhelming historical and present-day evidence to the contrary. Guarding women with nicknames and comedy will surely embarrass them in the short-term, and, in the case of Ettel, she stepped down from her post as a CEO. But do you think she has gone un-hired since? What true recourse has she seen? What true contrition has she been forced to show? Like many others I was disturbed when the news reported #TeresaKlein falsely called the cops on a 9 year old black boy. One of the ways I plan to combat this issue in our community is by introducing Senate Bill S9150 https://t.co/QHatyNGYsm @JeffCMays #CornerstoreCaroline pic.twitter.com/RBZUskS8e0 — Senator Kevin Parker (@SenatorParker) October 13, 2018 There need to be precedents set to make sure these anti-Black violent offenders face more than just a handful of days of embarrassing memes. If there aren’t going to be laws that penalize these people for their calls — something I’m skeptical of, as such a law would be asking police to side with an innocent Black person over a white person, which doesn’t usually garner great outcomes for us — then we have to find ways to hold these white people accountable. So, yes, say their real names as often as possible. Make the world know that anyone who hires them or does business with them is choosing to engage with someone with a clear disregard for Black lives. Whatever you do, leave the cute nicknames for situations that are actually funny, because there’s never any comedy involved when Black boys and girls get police called on them. Jesus Take The Wheel: This Incestuous Love Story Took A Left Turn Into Triple Murder, Infanticide And Suicide

CCBI/Splash Man Kills Wife Who Was His Biological Daughter, Their Son And Her Adoptive Father Before Shooting Himself Real life is way stranger than fiction, particularly in the case of Steven Walter Pladl , who made headlines just a month ago following his arrest, along with biological daughter Katie Rose Pladl, on incest charges. The Pladls are both dead now, along with Katie’s adoptive father, 56-year-old Anthony Fusco, and the former couple’s seven-month-old son Bennett Pladl, according to NY Post reports . Steven Pladl is suspected of killing all three before turning the gun on himself ccording to news station WTVR reports. Authorities were alerted about Steven Pladl’s murder spree after his mother called 911 asking police to check Pladl’s Knightdale, NC, home. “Oh God, he told me to call the police and I shouldn’t go over there,” Steven’s mother told the dispatcher. “He killed his baby and he’s (baby) in the house,” the caller said. “His wife broke up with him over the phone yesterday…” the caller continued. “I can’t even believe this is happening.” Police performed a welfare check and discovered the body of Bennett Pladl around 9 a.m. according to Knightdale Chief of Police Lawrence Capps. Authorities believe Steven traveled to New Milford, Conn. after killing his son and allegedly shot his 20-year-old daughter Katie and her adoptive father, to death. They were found dead Thursday morning around 8:40 a.m. inside a truck with the window shot out at an intersection on Route 7, news station WTIC reported. . Police were searching for suspect Steven Pladl’s vehicle, a Honda minivan, when they found it, with him dead inside, several miles away in Dover, New York. The Pladls were set to appear in court April 23. Steven and his ex-wife Alyssa gave Katie up for adoption in 1998, when Alyssa was just 17. They reunited with Katie in 2016 after she found them on social media and Authorities said the father and daughter, who allegedly planned to wed, were living as a couple in North Carolina. They were arrested after officials were notified about a possible love child. Steven and his ex-wife gave Katie up for adoption in 1998. The biological parents reportedly reunited with their long-lost daughter in 2016 after she tracked them down on social media, living in the West End of Henrico County, Virginia. Alyssa says Katie moved in with them and called them mom and dad. She also says she had no idea about the sexual relationship between Steven and Katie until she read one of her other daughter’s journals where she found drawings of a pregnant Katie. She also said her daughter had written that Steven was making her call Katie her step-mom. “There are no words to describe the sense of betrayal and disgust I’m feeling,” she told DailyMailTV in February. “I waited 18 long years to have a relationship with my daughter – and now he’s completely destroyed it.” Alyssa took out protective orders against Steven, so he could not go near her or their two younger daughters. She said she believed Steven brainwashed and manipulated Katie. The couple reportedly wed in July 2017 and Katie gave birth to Bennett in September 2017, but after both were arrested in January part of the bond conditions were that they no longer have contact. Katie moved back in with her family in New York and Steven Pladl’s mother stepped in to help with Bennett. A lawyer for Steven Pladl said he met with him just a month ago and had no indication he might become homicidal. SMH. Terrible tragedy on so many levels. Prayers up to the many people grieving after this horrible chain of events.

Jason Aldean and Britney Kerr: We’re Pregnant!

Jason Aldean and Britney Kerr have dealt with quite a few bumps throughout the course of their relationship. But now the controversial couple has something to say about a very different kind of bump, one that signifies a baby is in the way. Yup: the singers are expecting their first child! The 40-year old country artist and his former American Idol contestant of a wife made the announcement on Instagram last night. “SURPRISE!!! WE ARE PREGNANT!!! This was the hardest secret we’ve ever had to keep,” Kerr penned a caption to the photo below. She added: “This journey for us has been full of many happy times & also many tears… The biggest rollercoaster we have ever been on, without a doubt! All of the moments of heartache were followed by the biggest blessing in the entire world!! “We will never take one moment for granted & can’t wait to meet you, sweet baby!!!” Based on the mixture of pink and blue balloons here, it appears as if the couple has not yet found out their impending baby’s gender. Said Added Aldean of the exciting personal news: “Been hard to keep this secret but we couldn’t be happier to add to our family. This year just gets better and better. #bunintheoven.” Aldean has two daughters, a nine-year old and a 14-year old, from his previous relationship with Jessica Ussery. He split with her in 2013 after 12 years of marriage after photos emerged of him cheating with Kerr in October of 2013. With the evidence so glaring, Aldean didn’t try to hide his infidelity. He addressed it head-on in a Facebook message to fans at the time. “Hey Guys – I wanted to talk to you directly, so you’re hearing the truth from me and not just reading allegations made about my personal life on gossip web sites,” he wrote. “The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and I acted inappropriately at a bar.” “I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that’s the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself.” “I’m not perfect, and I’m sorry for disappointing you guys.” “I really appreciate being able to work through this privately with my family and for all your continued support.” Aldean and Ussery tried to work on their marriage after this scandal broke, but they filed for divorce a few months later. In April of 2014, Aldean said he didn’t regret any decisions and he urged critics to lay off of him and Kerr. ” So sick of people judging me and [Brittany Kerr]  over things they know nothing about. I have made mistakes but i am a better person because of it,” the singer Tweeted at the time. “I wouldnt change a thing.” “Im happier than i have ever been, so thank u to all the people who support us. We are happy and life goes on. Its time to move on people.” And now it’s time for the couple to move on to parenthood. That’s a mighty huge step! Kerr and Aldean got engaged in September of 2014, with the former writing upon accepting the latter’s proposal: “My heart has never been more full of happiness and love.” View Slideshow: Stars Expecting Babies in 2017: Who’s Ready to Pop? “Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with this man.” “So many blessings and memories are in our future and SO thankful I get to share them with him.” Aldean later told People Magazine that he was “down” for having at least one child with Kerr, saying: “I love kids and being a dad is one of the best things in the world for me.”

Phaedra Parks Breaks Silence, Reacts to The Real Housewives of Atlanta Firing

Phaedra Parks is ready to move on. The reality star has no real say in the matter, of course, having been fired as a cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta this week. The bombshell was dropped on fans of the franchise yesterday, following a fiery fourth installment of the show’s ninth season reunion special on Sunday evening. During the taping, Parks confessed to telling Porsha Williams that Kandi Burruss and Burruss’ husband, Todd Tucker, had planned on drugging Williams and taking her back to their place for some sex. Did she base this wild accusation on something Burruss and Tucker actually told her, as she previously claimed? Did she pass it along to Williams based on first-hand information? No, Parks finally admitted at the reunion. “I repeated it because I heard it,” Parks explained. “Something was brought to me. I just repeated it. I repeated what someone told me. I’m not saying I didn’t say it. I’m saying I repeated it.” That’s a pretty fine line. And, even for a Real Housewives storyline, it’s also a pretty insane topic to broach. As Kandi cried and insisted that Phaedra essentially accused her of rape, other cast members at the reunion sat in shock. Kenya Moore couldn’t believe that Parks could make such a reveal and then remain stone-faced, while Porsha fought back tears and replied: “Oh, Phaedra, that’s awful.” “Oh God, that’s so awful. I swear to God, Kandi, I would never ever say something like that to you if it wasn’t told to me in truth and confidence.” Parks did end up muttering an apology on set, acknowledging that she “shouldn’t have repeated it.” But Williams wasn’t having it. “I feel betrayed … and completely taken advantage of,” she said, adding on stage: “[Our friendship] was a lie and I was the pawn used to hurt Kandi. I don’t know if I’ll be able to move past this.” In the end, producers weren’t able to move past the rape allegations. According to TMZ, they gave Parks her walking papers shortly after this explosive reunion special aired on Bravo. You can use the video below to watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta online and see this utter craziness go down: Watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 9 Episode 24 Online How is Parks feeling about the ordeal? What does she have planned next? We can’t say for certain, but the controversial star shared the following message on Instagram in the wake of this scandal. “New day, new week! Have a magnificent #Monday! #letsgo,” Parks  wrote alongside the poster below, which read: “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” In other words: The past is the past and Parks is ready to see what the future has in store for her. Toward the end of the reunion, host Andy Cohen put Parks in her place, telling her directly: “You got caught in a megawatt lie. I don’t know that you’ve completely copped to it.” She apologized again at this point, adding: “I’m sorry that it hurt Kandi as well.” Speaking later to Us Weekly, Cohen expressed surprise that Parks was so calm about the incident. She didn’t express much remorse or emotion on stage. “She seemed kind of withdrawn about it,” Cohen told the tabloid. The Watch What Happens Live also said he’s “spoken a few times” with Parks since the reunion taping, but “I don’t get the sense that she has [talked to the other Housewives].” This is not shocking. View Slideshow: 17 Stars Who Really Love the Real Housewives As for whether she can repair her friendships, Cohen has his doubts. “It seems a little precarious,” he says. We agree. Once you accuse a friend of planning to drug and rape another friend, there’s almost never any going back from that.
