Muslim Woman Sues Planet Fitness For Refusing To Let Her Work Out In Headdress A Muslim woman is pursuing her lawsuit against Planet Fitness after she says the refused to allow her to workout in a religious head covering. via News One Tarainia McDaniel (pictured), recently filed a lawsuit against a Planet Fitness in New Mexico over an incident that occurred in October 2011, claiming that the gym wouldn’t allow her to wear her religious head covering when she tried to work out, reports Albuquerque Journal. According to the 37-year-old Albuquerque resident, she signed a two-year contract with the New Hampshire-based business at one location where she was never given a problem about wearing her Muslim head covering. When McDaniel transferred her membership to another Planet Fitness location, though, she was allegedly told that her religious head covering was not allowed because it was against the gym’s dress code, according to the lawsuit. However, the gym in question did display a sign that read, “No jeans, work boots, bandannas, skull caps, or revealing apparel.” McDaniel alleges in her complaint that she asked the gym’s representatives if she could wear her head covering to accommodate her faith and even asked if she could instead wear a hijab, a more formal piece that covers the head and chest. McDaniel claims that her requests were flatly denied and told that the head coverings were direct violations of the strict gym dress codes. Planet Fitness’ attorney, Erika Anderson ,defends her client’s position regarding the case, telling Albuquerque Journal, “My client’s position is that they didn’t know the head covering was for religious purposes. It violated their dress code policy. But the New Mexico Human Rights Act and the Unfair Practices Act states that Planet Fitness had no legal right to deny McDaniel entry on to its facility while wearing her religious head covering. Singer/actress will join co-star Katharine McPhee on Sony imprint Masterworks. Megan Hilty is joining “Smash” co-star Katharine McPhee on Sony imprint Masterworks, also home to Wilson Phillips and Kristin Chenoweth. The Hollywood Reporter noted that while no release date has been set for Hilty’s first album, she is currently working on demos. Hilty told MTV News last month that she would love to pattern her career after now-labelmate Chenoweth, who has transitioned from Broadway sensation to actress and singer. “I look at the people’s careers who I want to emulate, like Audra McDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, Bernadette Peters,” Hilty said. “They’ve all found the key to longevity in this business, and that is diversifying, doing as many things as possible to keep yourself relevant, and so hopefully I’m on the same track as all those amazing women.” While these days she’s burning up the small screen, Hilty has put in plenty of work on the stage as well, acting in “Wicked” (like Chenoweth) and “9 to 5.” Before landing a lead role on “Smash,” Hilty appeared on “Desperate Housewives,” “Ugly Betty” and the Disney series “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.” “It was something that I never really thought was possible,” Hilty said of her starring role on the show, which also includes Anjelica Huston and Debra Messing. “I always thought Broadway’s the goal, and then I moved out to L.A. with ‘Wicked’ and started doing guest-star spots and little recurring things, and I was like, ‘Well, this is pretty great, I’m kind of digging this.’ ” Will you check out Megan Hilty’s recording career? MC tells MTV News why he enlisted the ‘real oddball group’ to promote his new energy drink. The mogul and rapper recruited “Jersey Shore” star Pauly D (who is signed to his G-Note record label ) and comedy legend Joan Rivers to help spread the gospel of the newest beverage on the block. The trio gathered at Planet Fitness in upper Manhattan to promote Street King, and MTV News was on hand as 50 and Rivers chewed scenery together. At one point, a caffeinated Rivers even used her feminine wiles to try to seduce the beefy MC. Did it work? Well, fans will have to see if he succumbs to her. Getting Rivers and Pauly onboard was all in the rapper’s master plan to get everyone interested in what he’s selling. “We[‘re] actually shooting the first commercial for my Street King project,” he dished in between takes. “It’s exciting, I got Joan Rivers here. I got Pauly D, a real oddball group. We felt like it would hit different targeted audiences.” However, it’s not just about selling drinks for profit. Fiddy is also using the product for a good cause. “When I developed the concept for this actual project, we thought about my experiences traveling in Africa,” he explained. “And I wanted to do something ’cause of how bad famine does in Africa.
