Written and directed by Joel Edgerton , the film adaptation portrays Conley as a young man after being outed as gay to his religious parents at 19 years old. Pressured into attending gay conversion therapy, young Conley (played by Lucas Hedges ) butts heads with his therapist. An odd mission, considering they can’t even keep the kids they have from molesting people, but they seem to take it pretty seriously. In fact, they’ve devised a clever system: By ensuring that their offspring are beyond sexually frustrated by the time they get married, Jim Bob and Michelle know they’ll immediately begin copulating like it’s going out of style as soon as they get hitched! Foolproof, right?! It’s called “courting,” and it may be the only aspect of their lives in which the Arkansas family believes in equality. In other words, it sounds like the process of getting to know a significant other is equally hellish for both participants. If you watched last week’s episode of Counting On , you may have picked up on a seriously WTF detail of the Duggars’ courtship process: It seems Jim Bob makes his daughters’ potential suitors fill out a 50-page questionnaire before they commence with the courtship process! This disturbing nugget of information was revealed during the Counting On after show (because every freakin’ show has an after-show in the world of #PeakTV). JB casually mentioned the document while being interviewed by producer Scott Enlow. “I’m sorry, wait a second Jim Bob made you guys fill out questionnaires?” Enlow asked, prompting an eruption of nervous laughter from daughter Jessa Duggar. “I think that questionnaire is pretty thorough,” she interjected. “He is not kidding,” Jill Duggar confirmed. “Everybody did the 30-page questionnaire,” Jill added, noting that it had expanded to 50 pages in recent years. Fifty. Pages. Apparently, the questionnaire primarily focused on the respondents’ religious beliefs and how they pertain to their lifestyle. Lawmaker Says Protecting LGBT Rights Will Lead To Protecting Pedophile Rights Not sure how you compare the two, but a West Virginia lawmaker did his best when he argued that defending LGBT rights would “open the door to protections for pedophiles.” Via Huffington Post : At a legislative hearing Friday, Republican Del. Tom Fast argued against an amendment to a bill that would ban discrimination against same-sex couples. The non-discrimination amendment (which ultimately failed) was added to a bill that would let Uber operate in the state. “Once homosexual, bisexual and transgender behavior is elevated to a protected status, there is nothing to stop bigamy, pedophilia or any other sexual practice from receiving the same protection,” Fast said. Fast went on to read an article from the Northern Colorado Gazette that purportedly showed pedophiles were “using the same tactics used by gay rights activists.” The West Virginia House of Delegates recently approved the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) by a vote of 72-26. The bill, which allows people to cite religious objections to state actions in certain court proceedings, will now move to the state senate. Democratic opponents to the bill argued that RFRA would restrict the rights of individuals who don’t sexually identify as straight. “If sexual orientation laws become commonplace, then any person who speaks against sexual practice will be vilified,” Fast said. “Their rights will be thwarted, and their freedom of religion of conscience will be crushed.” Do YOU think protecting gay rights will eventually lead to protecting pedophile rights?

Adult Swim Show Features Vulgar “Black Jesus” A new Adult Swim show is facing an equal amount of backlash and praise from the religious and African-American communities. Among other things, the show which is titled “Black Jesus” features Jesus living as a hood fab Black man living in Compton, CA who smokes kush, is involved with drug dealers and curses on the regular. via TIME Magazine In John 20:29, Jesus says, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” This was an issue with Doubting Thomas; it is not the problem that Black Jesus has. Like many shows with controversial concepts, the Adult Swim sitcom from Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder has no lack of detractors who have not yet seen it, yet still believe it is blasphemy. Granted, Adult Swim has already given them fodder, in the form of ads and trailers. And the bullet-point highlights of the first two episodes probably won’t do much to quiet the outcry among Christian groups who argue that it mocks their savior and their faith. The show puts the Son of God in modern-day Compton, where he curses, hangs out with drug dealers, changes bottled water into cognac, and smokes blunts.
