Lawmaker Says Protecting LGBT Rights Will Lead To Protecting Pedophile Rights Not sure how you compare the two, but a West Virginia lawmaker did his best when he argued that defending LGBT rights would “open the door to protections for pedophiles.” Via Huffington Post : At a legislative hearing Friday, Republican Del. Tom Fast argued against an amendment to a bill that would ban discrimination against same-sex couples. The non-discrimination amendment (which ultimately failed) was added to a bill that would let Uber operate in the state. “Once homosexual, bisexual and transgender behavior is elevated to a protected status, there is nothing to stop bigamy, pedophilia or any other sexual practice from receiving the same protection,” Fast said. Fast went on to read an article from the Northern Colorado Gazette that purportedly showed pedophiles were “using the same tactics used by gay rights activists.” The West Virginia House of Delegates recently approved the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) by a vote of 72-26. The bill, which allows people to cite religious objections to state actions in certain court proceedings, will now move to the state senate. Democratic opponents to the bill argued that RFRA would restrict the rights of individuals who don’t sexually identify as straight. “If sexual orientation laws become commonplace, then any person who speaks against sexual practice will be vilified,” Fast said. “Their rights will be thwarted, and their freedom of religion of conscience will be crushed.” Do YOU think protecting gay rights will eventually lead to protecting pedophile rights?

April 16 is the National Day of Silence, sponsored by a gay activist group, for American students. This day brings attention to all anti-LGBT (lesbian-gay-bisexual-transvestite)name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Each year the event has grown, and now hundreds of thousands of students participate to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior. Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence has become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. The day is marks a silent protest against the harassment of gay and lesbian students. Christian groups claim that the holiday promotes gay rights and the acknowledgment of those rights. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network has been marketing their event to schools around the nation. The event calls for students to not speak throughout the school day in hopes that the silent protest will raise awareness about harassment and bullying of homosexual students in public schools. April 16 National Day of Silence is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading
A prominent friend and supporter of James Dobson believes Dobson was pushed aside by the new leadership of Focus on the Family, who want the powerhouse evangelical ministry to project a softer image on issues ranging from abortion to gay marriage to relations with President Obama. In February 2009, Dobson stepped down as chairman of the Colorado Springs-based group’s board of directors, after relinquishing his longtime role as president in 2003. But he kept his role of host of the popular Focus radio show, which is reportedly heard by 1.5 million Americans each day. Then, this past November, Dobson said on the show that the Focus board had asked him to give up the radio program in a few months time. Late last month, he delivered his final Focus broadcast. In little-noticed comments from the November show, Dobson seemed troubled by the board’s decision to ask him to give up the program. “[T]the board of directors voted privately on Wednesday — before we got there — to ask for my resignation, although their request was made with kindness and respect. We can only guess the reason for their decision because frankly I don’t fully know,” Dobson said. “But it apparently has to do with the desire for closure on my tenure and the beginning of another.” Well this can only be taken as good news. Though I don’t expect Focus on the Family to suddenly become a bastion for tolerance and progressive ideals, I certainly think throwing Dobson overboard gives them a chance to at least move away from the crazier side of Christianity. Remember James Dobson is the same genius who suggest that watching Spongebob Squarepants would make your children gay . He also gave serial killer Ted Bundy a kind of absolution by allowing him to suggest that pornography was to blame for his desire to rape and murder women. And perhaps most egregious of all is that Dobson and his Evangelical cohorts are the one’s to blame for John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate. Yes I think we can all agree that the world is a safer, saner place without the likes of James Dobson running an influential group like Focus on the Family. However, in my opinion, the world might be improved even further if groups like Focus on the Family did not exist at all. But they that is just me.
