M any of the nation’s largest corporations have fallen short when it comes to racial diversity in the C-suite—especially in the realm of tech. Research shows that African Americans make up less than two percent of employees and less than one percent of executives at major tech companies. Despite the statistics, there are Black professionals who are dedicated to changing the face of leadership in tech. According to Black Enterprise , Kenny Mitchell has been named Snapchat’s new chief marketing officer; making him the social media app’s first Black C-suite executive. Source: Larry Busacca/PW18 / Getty Beyoncé isn’t always vegan, but she’s known for going on a strict vegan diet before huge events like while training for her momentous Coachella performance in 2018. With this information in mind, it’s pretty safe to assume Bey feels her best when she’s vegan–so why wouldn’t she want all of her fans to feel their best, too? That along with the obvious fact that going vegan is best for all our little animal friends and the planet makes for a pretty good case, but a lot of people still don’t have the discipline or the desire to completely give up meat and all other animal products. Well, Beyoncé has a solution for that: because if anything can make us all go vegan, it’s the promise of some free Jay Z and Beyoncé tickets. Mrs. Knowles-Carter took to Instagram and posted a picture of her “Greenprint,” which is basically what she does in order to reduce her carbon emissions. For Bey, this means eating a plant-based breakfast and also doing “meatless Mondays”. Other options on the Greenprint website include eating plant-based meals at work, eating two plant-based meals a day, and eating plant-based meals only throughout the week. Like I mentioned before–Beyoncé promoting her healthy lifestyle is great…but what fans are most intrigued by is the caption for this instagram post. Apparently, this is an essay that Jennifer Lawrence wrote about gender inequality in pay scale in Hollywood, even though she’s currently the highest paid actress in Hollywood, and we can all agree that actors as a whole, are all over paid and in the grand scheme of the world…that is the actual inequality… What they do is not worth the money they get paid, the budgets are set and the pay scale high, so that the producers brokering and getting fiancning for their movie get their 10% of the budget off the top, so if dude is behind a 100,000,000 dollar movie, he needs to justify that 100,000,000 dollars so that he can take his 10 percent before production even starts…meaning just setting up the deal…makes him 10,000,000 dollars…before even filming…and that’s why they pay actors a ton of money…because it allows a movie that should otherwise cost a million, that they’d make 100,000 off the top…make them so much more…and I guess it makes sense because they make product and sell product and people buy into the product…so why not let the actors have a cut?…. I say, because they are all talentless hacks that are interchangeable, and that I would argue could be anyone in any given movie.. Anyway, to see a girl who gets paid too much complaining because the studios put more value on the male talent, like a male pornstar who complains because the studios put more value on the female talent…is just bullshit…even if she addresses just how it’s not relatable because she’s already made so much money…but still an issue for her because she’s not getting paid the same as the costars… The fact is, we don’t live in communism, if the producer says “I have 1,000,000 for you, take it or leave it”…take it or fucking leave it…and if they say “I have 3,000,000 for Brad Cooper because he won’t take 1,000,000 and we really want him”….who fucking cares… WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ABSURD PAY DAYS… Fuck these pieces of shit on all fronts, pay them 60,000 dollars which is SAG minimums….and still make great fucking movies, because there are equally talented people willing to take that and if it’s a good fucking movie…people will see it… I say, take the money out of the actors hands…give it to the fucking writers…directors and the people who actually make the movie what it is…not the on screen bullshit.. Either way, here’s her opinion…that I think is worth reading because it’s a joke…on all fronts..shut the fuck up and act puppet with hot tits… When Lena first brought up the idea of Lenny to me, I was excited. Excited to speak to Lena, who I think is a genius, and excited to start thinking about what to complain about (that’s not what she pitched me, it’s just what I’m gonna do). When it comes to the subject of feminism, I’ve remained ever-so-slightly quiet. I don’t like joining conversations that feel like they’re “trending.” I’m even the asshole who didn’t do anything about the ice-bucket challenge — which was saving lives — because it started to feel more like a “trend” than a cause. I should have written a check, but I fucking forgot, okay? I’m not perfect. But with a lot of talk comes change, so I want to be honest and open and, fingers crossed, not piss anyone off. It’s hard for me to speak about my experience as a working woman because I can safely say my problems aren’t exactly relatable. When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. I didn’t want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don’t need. (I told you it wasn’t relatable, don’t hate me). But if I’m honest with myself, I would be lying if I didn’t say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight. I didn’t want to seem “difficult” or “spoiled.” At the time, that seemed like a fine idea, until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realized every man I was working with definitely didn’t worry about being “difficult” or “spoiled.” This could be a young-person thing. It could be a personality thing. I’m sure it’s both. But this is an element of my personality that I’ve been working against for years, and based on the statistics, I don’t think I’m the only woman with this issue. Are we socially conditioned to behave this way? We’ve only been able to vote for what, 90 years? I’m seriously asking — my phone is on the counter and I’m on the couch, so a calculator is obviously out of the question. Could there still be a lingering habit of trying to express our opinions in a certain way that doesn’t “offend” or “scare” men? A few weeks ago at work, I spoke my mind and gave my opinion in a clear and no-bullshit way; no aggression, just blunt. The man I was working with (actually, he was working for me) said, “Whoa! We’re all on the same team here!” As if I was yelling at him. I was so shocked because nothing that I said was personal, offensive, or, to be honest, wrong. All I hear and see all day are men speaking their opinions, and I give mine in the same exact manner, and you would have thought I had said something offensive. I’m over trying to find the “adorable” way to state my opinion and still be likable! Fuck that. I don’t think I’ve ever worked for a man in charge who spent time contemplating what angle he should use to have his voice heard. It’s just heard. Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, and Bradley Cooper all fought and succeeded in negotiating powerful deals for themselves. If anything, I’m sure they were commended for being fierce and tactical, while I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share. Again, this might have NOTHING to do with my vagina, but I wasn’t completely wrong when another leaked Sony email revealed a producer referring to a fellow lead actress in a negotiation as a “spoiled brat.” For some reason, I just can’t picture someone saying that about a man. Jennifer Lawrence is an Academy Award–winning actress. I still think her best work is her SEXTS… The post Jennifer Lawrence’s Essay on Gender Inequality in Hollywood of the Day appeared first on DrunkenStepfather .
First Lady ‘Chelly O is talkin that talk! Michelle Obama Speaks On Higher Education For African-American Students First Lady Michelle Obama is giving her two cents on the lack of priority that young African-American students place on higher education. The FLOTUS recently addressed the graduating class of Bowie State University, which is one of many Historically Black Colleges, where she made it a point to stress the importance of going to college and commended the graduating class for beating the statistics. via Think Progress First Lady Michelle Obama decided to trot out some very old talking points in her commencement address to the 2013 graduating class at Bowie State University: “Today, instead of walking miles every day to school, they’re sitting on couches for hours, playing video games, watching TV. Instead of dreaming of being a teacher or a lawyer or a business leader, they’re fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper,” Obama continued. “Right now, one in three African American students are dropping out of high school, only one in five African Americans between the ages of 25 and 29 has gotten a college degree.” But priorities should change, she said, because “getting an education is as important if not more important than it was back when this university was founded.” The first lady is known for keeping it 100 when she speaks, and this time was no exception. What do you think about her comments, Bossip fam?
I remember skipping my statistics class in the summer in May so that I could buy tickets during the pre-sale to Justin’s Believe Tour. Oppsie.. My sister and I had both had our computers up and ready to buy tickets off Ticketmaster the second they went on sale which, by the way was pretty nerve racking. We got extremely lucky and were able to buy VIP M&G section 1 front row tickets! I was so stoked I couldn’t wait for November. I live in Panama City Beach, FL so we had to drive a little over 9 hours to get to Memphis, TN. We love road trips so we didn’t mind the drive. We got there on Halloween, October 31 st , a day before the concert. We stayed at The Westin which was directly across from the arena so it was walking distance. The next day we woke up and had to start getting ready a little after 1 because we had to be at the arena at 3:45 to pick up our tickets and start the meet and greet. I WAS SOOOO AMPED! After we picked up our tickets, we got in a line and they told us the M&G rules. No signatures, no kisses (unless he kisses you), etc. We waited in line a little over an hour before Justin came behind the curtains. While we were waiting, Alfredo came out (with vampire teeth in) and eventually made it down to where we were standing and I asked him if I can have a picture with him also and he said yes. When I put my arm around him and I asked him if he had fun last night (Halloween – saw the IG picture of them dressed up) and he said yeah. Sweet guy. Soon after that Justin began the meet and greet and it went SO quick. Before I knew it I was in front of the guy who was guarding the curtain. I saw Kenny inside of the curtain to the left. When I walked through the curtain it felt like I had taken only two steps and next thing I knew, I was already right in front of Justin. I said, “Hey, can I have a hug?” and he said, “Of course!” It was a really fast process so there wasn’t time to say much else. We took the photo and walked out. I can’t remember if he/I said bye or anything! I am on the right side of Justin in the M&G photo. After I walked out the curtain I was so hyped up. I felt like I was at a football game and my favorite team had just scored a touchdown. It was legit. One of his crew members said to me, “Give it a 110% tonight,” and I said, “I’m going to give it a 120, 130,” and kept going on while I gave the guy a high five. I couldn’t really shut up at this point. Then, another crew member said go over to the girl in the purple shirt. At first I thought they were trying to get me out of the way because I was standing directly outside the exit side of the curtain but I went up to her and she pulled me aside and asked if she could have my name and number because they might pull me during the show later. I gave it to her and then she asked how old I was and I said 20. She called me so I could have her number to text her where I was sitting. So I did and 20 minutes before Carly went on stage a random number texted me saying he got my number from Lisa and asked me a few general questions and said they were trying to find someone for the OLLG. I didn’t want to get my hopes up because I thought Allison is usually the one that picks and there were so many other girls there so it was like not real life status for me to get that lucky! Long story short, the OLLG song came on and I didn’t get chosen but I thought it was really cool how I got put into consideration and I was happy for the girl who got picked! She looked so excited up there it was so CUTE! During the concert I met a girl named Morgan who was super sweet so she stood by me and my sister during the concert and her and I DIEDDDD every time Justin made eye contact with us. This seemed to happened a lot since we were right there in front! You can see this in the video my sister took of him singing Baby. Justin put on an amazing show. That was my first and isn’t my last. -@Brittany_Sowell Read more here: I remember skipping my statistics class in the summer in May so…
A new survey shows most numbers are up when it comes to teens and that mary jane , drinking, and more. Looks like that stick-icky is being bought by teenager’s more often than we thought. While Mayor Bloomberg is trying to make the whole city healthy, our kids are going to pot! The percentage of city teens who get high on weed jumped to 17.7 percent last year — by far the highest rate during Hizzoner’s 10-year tenure, according to a new health survey obtained by The Post. The blunt figure is up from the 12.3 percent who smoked weed in 2005. “Every kid my age does it, but it is not a good thing,’’ said Catherine Reyes, 16, of Brooklyn. “They can end up in bad situations.” The boost in marijuana use was just one of the alarming findings in the biannual youth-risk behavior survey put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention… The same report also found that nearly a third of underage teens drink booze. In another blow to the health-conscious “Nanny’’ Bloomberg, the statistics show that many city kids are big couch potatoes, too. More than one in four — 28 percent — are overweight or obese, and 21 percent still drink sugary soda, although that’s down from 28 percent in 2005… Part of teens’ problem is 80 percent don’t get the recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise. Nearly six in 10 kids said they don’t have daily gym class in school. In New York, it’s not a requirement in high school. Half of the teens surveyed don’t even ride a bike. Instead, 44 percent play video games or surf the Web for fun on school days, and 38 percent watch more than three hours of TV daily…For many teens, sex seems to be their only physical activity. Nearly 38 percent said they’ve already had sexual intercourse — almost half before age 13. Despite the findings, a Health Department rep insisted, “New York City youth remain in better shape than their peers around the country when it comes to physical education and obesity, as well as rates of alcohol and illicit drug abuse.” Tell us what you think about youngins these days tokin’ at such an early age? When I was approached with the opportunity to interview actor, Brian White ( Stomp The Yard, Fighting ), I said, “sure.” He is starring along-side Michelle Williams in a new DVD entitled, “What My Husband Doesn’t Know.” “Interesting title”, I thought. It is about a woman who isn’t getting the attention she desires and needs from her husband who is a wealthy man invested more in his finances than his wife. Long story short, White’s sexy exterior is summoned to fix a leak in Williams’ home, but the leak turns out to be a metaphor for her broken marriage which he fixes with his pipe laying skills [wink, wink]. Watch the trailer, here ! Given the fact that Brian’s co-star is a black woman and he is a black man with a black mother, I find the conversation we had was slightly accurate yet odd. White has had trouble with his words before (See here) , but after our discussion on maintaining a healthy relationship and the essentials to a successful marriage, things went left and I concluded that he has something – maybe not “hate” – but something… a gripe perhaps, not only with black women, but the black race. What is your insight on the Spike Lee vs. Tyler Perry beef? Why do you think people hate Tyler Perry so much? Because Tyler holds a mirror up to people. Stereotypes are not stereotypes today. The most popular character [ in, Why Did I Get Marred? ], and it’s not the one that Tyler picked as the most popular, is Tasha! You have Janet Jackson and Jill Scott; my point is Jill Scott and Janet are huge music stars with huge fan bases, Tasha became the most popular because her character is portrayed the most like “Love & Hip Hop” the most like, “Desperate Housewives of Atlanta,” [we think he means “Housewives Of Atlanta] you might as well switch it around and pop in Nene [Leaks]. [Tasha Smith] is brilliant, she’s nothing like the character, she’s just portraying what she sees in society, magnified.[sic] And people get mad and say that’s not us. Yes it is , turn on “Love & Hip Hop” and turn on “Desperate Housewives Of Atlanta” those are “reality shows.” You can’t call something reality then get mad when it shows up in the movies as reality but that’s what we’re doing. That’s where the cycle continues. They don’t do that in Africa, they don’t do that in France; they don’t connect with that message. What’s interesting is we, here, in America connect with that message and get upset at it. That’s what Tyler sees. If you look at Spike, what is his most successful movie ever? successful defined by how much money it made versus how much it cost to make. “Inside Man” and the stars were Clive Owens, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Denzel Washington and Jodi Foster… Four huge actors, two white, one known–Denzel and then another amazing British actor people don’t know here. That is not the type of film that Spike necessarily wants to focus on, right? So what makes money isn’t what Spike makes, so it’s upsetting and frustrating–I would assume. But, what Tyler makes, does make money…$500 million worth of money. [sic] Do you think Tyler Perry only depicts black people in a negative light? There are a lot of black people who fit into the stereotype but there are a lot of black people who don’t. You can’t call it a stereotype if it’s the majority. The most prevalent image in “urban society” right now is women like Nene [Leaks]. If there’s a fight that breaks out on “Love & Hip Hop” those people are one every blog, the cover of every magazine the next week. It’s not Taraji or Gabrielle, it’s whoever just got into a fist fight. Tyler’s not stereotyping, he’s holding up a mirror and people are mad at him because people don’t want to look at that image in that way. [sic] When we use the term here in America, and say “black movies,” that has no reference for the rest of the world. Look at “Luther,” Idris just won a Golden Globe for “Luther,” that is NOT a black show, it’s a British show. British don’t see color they see quality. People who watch BBC don’t go, ‘oo’ there’s that black show, nah. Most African Americans were not even aware of Luther because it’s not a stereotypically urban themed show. Once we in America start focusing on quality first and telling human stories that connect with everybody that might want to watch it, the problems will solve themselves.[sic] Do you believe that the stereotypes we see on TV are prevalent in the race or just portrayed on TV? Is it really the majority of black women that act like Nene? I have five sisters and two moms, none of them are like that! To me, I can say I’m offended if they want to represent that and don’t want to represent my mom, but my mom represents Phylicia Rashād and has been represented on TV all my life. I can’t say that. I don’t watch “Real Housewives,” I’ve never seen an episode of “Love & Hop Hop” I’m not supporting it, I’m not giving it ratings. I’m not making the stereotype exist on TV. You’ve watched it, you’ve added to why it’s on TV.[sic] If you look at Hip Hop, the rappers and their girlfriends, their reality shows look just like “Love & Hip Hop” and “Housewives,” some of them are even on those shows… so we’re taking the line between what’s real and what’s on TV and its all blurred but it looks exactly the same as what’s in Tyler’s movies . That’s not what I see when I go on Rowland Martins show or having this conversation with you, we are not the majority . Look at the statistics in education, only our community not all blacks African Americans we perform the worst along with Mexicans . The rest of the blacks in the world are like second and third. There’s no correlation with race, it’s our culture. Will Smith never made anything that wasn’t for everybody. He played a homosexual man with an all-white cast of Oscar winners that branded him as quality, that’s why people follow him…no other reason. [sic] Look at all British actors, they take all the roles. When we see David Oyelowo, from Red Tails , he stands on the stage and speaks in his normal voice, he looks like he just came out of Oxford and everybody else looks like they just came out the club . Nate Parker and Tristan are very educated…[continued in audio] Tyler Perry’s “Good Deeds” [TRAILER] Is Brian, spot on just a turn off?
