Snooki: Mom-Shamed For Drinking Wine While Feeding Baby!

Some call it skill, some call it bad parenting.  But either way, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi doesn’t care what “some” call her behavior, she’s just trying to share some of her favorite “mom life” moments with her fans.  On Sunday, Snooki shared a photo to Instagram of her downing a glass of red wine while feeding her nearly 2-month-old son Angelo James LaValle.  It’s called balance.  “What’s mom life like with 2 kids and a newborn? THIS,” said the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star.  She also added the hashtags “mom juice” and “I’m a good Mom I swear.”  Luckily, most of her fans had a sense of humor and not a stick up their butt. “You deserve this! Moms need some time to relax!” wrote one user.  Snooki also received some love from her Jersey Shore fam too, of course!  BFF and co-star Jwoww commented with multiple praising hand emojis, while The Situation’s wife Lauren Sorrentino added: “This is skill!” Even Jessie James Decker chimed in, saying “I’m feelin’ this one!” But of course, there’s always that one user who just has to be a buzzkill. In response to one commenter who expressed their (unwanted) concern that Polizzi was drinking alcohol while breastfeeding her son, the reality star quickly clapped back.  “I allow myself to have a few glasses once a week to stay sane with 3 kids,” she wrote.  “I do what’s necessary to clean my milk for my baby. Let a mawma live.”  Oh, and the troll wasn’t a mother or even old enough to actually consume wine. “Keep being 17,” Snooki added at the end.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , the safest option is to not drink alcohol while breastfeeding, but having one drink per day likely won’t harm the baby.  We’re sure the reality star knows what’s up because she has already gone through the breastfeeding process with kids Giovanna, 4 and Lorenzo, 6, who she shares with husband Jionni LaValle .   During a recent interview on the Women on Top podcast, Snooki opened up on what it’s like raising her children in the spotlight and how she has had to deal with her fair share of mom-shamers  in the past.  “I always question myself about how much I should share about my kids,” she admitted. “Because it’s going to be in the public eye and everyone’s going to know.” “And I ended up stopping for a little bit just because people on the internet are assholes and everyone is a mom shamer.” “Everyone can do things better than you,” she said, adding that their criticism was too hard to hear, so she stopped posting. “They just give you this unwanted advice that I just couldn’t stand, so I stopped sharing the kids.” However, once she realized she didn’t have to take parental advice from strangers`she quickly began posting again. “I want my babies to always be protected and in this little bubble, but at the same time, they are just such amazing little creatures and I want to share them,” she said. Well, we want to see them!  But next time, try a straw!  One of the best comments from Snooki’s recent wine and dine post came from a mom that actually offered a solid tip. “Next time use a straw! So much easier to reach every last drop of wine!”  View Slideshow: Snooki and Jionni LaValle: A Jersey Romance

Ashley Massaro Committed Suicide by Hanging, Sources Confirm

Ashley Massaro, the former WWE Superstar and Survivor: China contestant who died late last week at the age of 39 , ended her own life via hanging. So states a new report from TMZ. The celebrity gossip website quotes “multiple sources” who say Massaro was discovered unconscious inside of her Suffolk County, New York home early Thursday morning. After the ex-grappler and reality star failed to show up for work at a local radio station, concerns apparently grew over her whereabouts and a call was eventually placed to 911. Massaro was then transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. When the tragic news of Massaro’s death first went publicm, her cause of death was unknown. A close friend then confirmed that Ashley committed suicide . And now we know the means by which she did so. Massaro won the first-ever WWE Diva Search and competed as a member of this company from 2005 through 2008. She even wrestled in a pair of Wrestlemanias, the organization’s most publicized and popular annual event. “We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro,” a WWE statement read five days ago. It added: “She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.” Massaro was also a cast member on Survivor in 2007 and was voted off on that season’s second episode. Prior to her suicide, Massaro had been part of a class action lawsuit against the WWE in which five dozen wrestlers accused the company of failing to protect its employees from repeated head trauma and concussions that eventually caused long-term brain damage. According to an affidavit Massaro signed in 2017, Ashley was knocked out cold for “five minutes” on one occasion and told to “brush it off” by higher-ups. Massaro alleged to have “sustained multiple concussions” throughout her wrestling career, along with “hairline fracture in my spine and sustained numerous back injuries.” She was “ultimately diagnosed with herniated discs in C4 and C5 of my vertebrae” and wrote the following two years ago: “Aside from my on-going physical injuries that were sustained in the ring, and my former battle with addiction, to this day I suffer from depression, for which I take medication; migraine headaches; and severe short-term memory loss.” We don’t wish to speculate, but it sounds very likely that the pain Massaro was in on a constant basis at least contributed to her decision to take her own life. One of Massaro’s attorneys has revealed that the former professional wrestler’s brain might be donated to Dr. Bennet Omalu so that it can be researched and the affects of her wrestling career can be analyzed. Ashley leaves behind an 18-year old daughter named Alex. In the wake of her mother’s passing, Massaro shared two throwback photos and wrote as an emotional caption to one of them: “i love you mommy i want to wake up in your arms more than anything i want to give u a big hug please come back this cant be real.” This is just so very sad. “I can’t even begin to explain how devastated I am to hear about [Ashley Massaro] – legit one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known,” wrote fellow ex-wrestler Torrie Wilson in a statement of her own/ She concluded last week: “When we fall into a dark place it can seem like it will never change but if you are there PLEASE keep hope & reach out for help.” Well said. If you or someone you know needs help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). View Slideshow: 21 WWE Wrestlers Who Died Way Too Young

Chicago Gets Its First Black-Owned Urgent Care Facility

B lack doctors are making power moves in medicine. According to the Chicago Crusader , a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility. They just opened the first Black owned urgent care facility on the south side of Chicago. https://t.co/OnUEIvKAeb — #becauseofthemwecan (@Becauseofthem) May 9, 2019 The center—dubbed Premier Health Urgent Care—is the only one of its kind in the Hyde Park community. It was a collaborative effort between Reuben C. Rutland, MD , Airron Richardson, MD , Michael A. McGee, MD , and former NFL player Dr. Gregory Primus . Aware of the lack of access to adequate health services, they were determined to cultivate a space where individuals can receive proper care and support. The center goes beyond providing urgent care, it has mental health and wellness services as well. “We are happy to open an urgent care in Hyde Park because the community needs it. I see so many urban professionals who either delay or go without care because of time constraints. No one has 8 hours to wait in the emergency department for a minor illness or the flexibility to wait 3 weeks because their primary care doctor is booked solid. We are here to help fill that gap,” Dr. Rutland said in a statement. “We are not in competition with the doctors’ offices or the emergency department. We are a supplement to them both, to help relieve the stress on those two facilities.” The founders are also using the center as an avenue to combat violence in Chicago. They will give some of its profits to an organization called Project Outreach and Prevention which develops programming for at-risk youth in an effort to keep them off the streets and on the right track. There are several Black medical professionals launching urgent care centers designed to help individuals from underserved communities. In 2018, Dr. Tamara Moise and Wadson Fils opened the doors to Big Apple Urgent Care, Brooklyn’s first Black-owned urgent care center. According to TMZ , sources told them that the couple along with Lena Waithe , Ludacris and  Janelle Monae , helped donate to Shelby’s mother, Camika Shelby , who put her son to rest in a beautiful ceremony on Saturday (April 27). The family also raised over $40,000 from a separate GoFundMe campaign. View this post on Instagram Today I got the opportunity to celebrate the life of Nigel Shelby. . I pray that no other child will ever have to endure what this young baby dealt with. We gotta love on our own! Check on your friends and loved ones. You never know what someone is going through. #ripnigel A post shared by Pinky Cole (@pinky907) on Apr 27, 2019 at 12:09pm PDT   Last month, Nigel sadly made headlines when he took his life after battling depression and being bullied for his sexual orientation by students at Huntsville High School. Apparently, Nigel came out two years ago. The Alabama teen’s mother told ABC News that her son was a “a vibrant, outgoing and fun-loving child who would do anything he could to make others smile.” “Nigel was a sweetheart. He loved everybody, he would help anybody. He was an angel,” Shelby said. “I just wish people could’ve seen how special he was while he was still here.” Camika also shared that her son was seeking counseling and was close to being medicated for his mental health issues. But he still struggled with the fact that he was gay. “I wish he could have been fully accepted while he was here because it was hard for him. He struggled,” she said. “He used to ask me sometimes ‘Mama, why couldn’t I just be normal?’ And I’m like, ‘Baby, you are normal. Who you choose to love has nothing to do with the person that you are.’” View this post on Instagram I would give anything for just one more hug A post shared by ~NigelShelby (@lovelynigel) on Apr 23, 2019 at 9:52pm PDT   “I’m truly blessed that I got to spend 15 years with this child, but it also makes me so sad to know that he’s no longer with me. He was my motivation to keep going. He always kept me lifted up, so to not have that anymore is heartbreaking,” she said. Even with a loving and accepting parent, Nigel still took his life, which is why it’s so incredibly important that as a community we hold up and love our Black LGBT children. Every single last one of us. A2016 report released by the Center for American Progress  found that Black LGBTQ folks experience higher rates of homelessness during youth than their peers;  have higher rates of unemployment or underemployment; and face overall lower rates of pay and higher rates of poverty. Another  report conducted by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network  found that nearly half of Black/African-American LGBTQ students felt unsafe due to their sexual orientation; over a third felt unsafe because of their gender expression and nearly 40 percent of Black/ African-American students were more likely to experience in-school discipline. So it’s clear that our children need us now more than ever. All Black lives matter. Rest in power Nigel. 8-Year-Old Helps Siblings Overcome Sickle Cell Disease

Continued here:

A n 8-year-old from Orlando is being hailed a hero after saving the lives of his brother and sister. According to WPTV , Stefan Aihe donated his bone marrow to help them both overcome sickle cell disease. Stefan Aihe is a hero. https://t.co/jMsud3S4TK — ESSENCE (@Essence) April 12, 2019 Kingsley , 22, and Vanessa , 13, were both born with the blood disorder which is one of the most common genetic diseases. The disease causes the breakdown of red blood cells which can result in blocking oxygen and blood flow to certain parts of the body. African-Americans are disproportionately impacted by the disease. According to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 13 Black babies are born with the sickle cell trait. Bone marrow transplants are the only cure for the disease, but many people struggle to find a match. After the family decided that they would go through the bone marrow transplant process with both Kingsley and Vanessa, they were surprised and ecstatic to discover that their youngest child Stefan was a match for both of their other children. Vanessa was cured after Stefan gave her a transplant a few years ago and now Kingsley is cured from a transplant that Stefan gave him in November. “It’s incredibly rare to have the same donor give to two different siblings. You know, to match is uncommon, but it’s not impossible,” Dr. David Shook told the news outlet. Their mother Nikki Aihe says this has been a huge blessing for the family. The family hopes their story will inspire others to spread awareness about sickle cell and individuals will step up and become donors. There have been efforts to bring attention to the disease and its disparities. Pfizer recently announced that the company is teaming up with other sickle cell advocates to push research surrounding the disease forward. Parkland Community Grieves Again After Two Student Suicides

Tragedies often fade away over a certain period of time, until another disaster sadly takes their place. But for the survivors, the pain will never disappear.  On Saturday night, a sophomore at the Florida high school where 17 people were killed in a mass shooting last year took his own life, according to Coral Springs police.  It was the second suicide in a span of one week involving a student survivor at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.  A week prior, a former student who lost her best friend in the massacre took her own life and one day following her funeral, this male student, who is still unnamed, killed himself. “Now is the time for the Florida legislature to help,” said Jared Moskowitz, Florida’s emergency management director and a former state representative from Parkland.  “Mental health is a bipartisan issue,” he posted to Twitter.  Officers in the nearby area responded this past Saturday night to the suicide scene of a minor, Officer Tyler Reik confirmed the death on Sunday and said it is still under investigation.  Ryan Petty, who lost his daughter Alaina during the shooting on February 14, 2018, said the child who took his life was s a 17-year-old boy.  Mr. Petty acknowledged the death on Twitter saying “17 + 2” with an emoji of a broken heart.  “What we feared could happen is happening,” he later said in an interview.  In his late daughter’s memory, he created a foundation last May which raised awareness on suicide prevention, according to The New York Times.  A recent graduate named Sydney Aiello, 19, took her own life last weekend, as reported by her mother Cara Aiello.  Ms. Aeillo told the local CBS news station that her daughter had received a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder and that she also suffered from survivor’s guilt after the shooting, in which one of her best friends, Meadow Pollack, had died.  News of Sydney’s death spread quickly and sparked grief once again in the Parkland community.  Her passing had drawn tens of thousands of dollars to a web page for donations for the young woman’s funeral and memorial service.  But more importantly, it started a discussion about preventing suicide by offering long-term resources to students and all young people who have had to deal with trauma and loss. March 23 marked the anniversary of the March For Our Lives rally against gun violence. I think we all remember the powerful march that many of Parkland’s passionate students organized following the aftermath of the shooting to speak out about gun violence.  Public officials met on Sunday to discuss a plan to assist children and families following the suicides.  In the meantime, the community has identified several locations to offer therapeutic services. “It’s important that the community knows right now how to triage this – to make sure they’re checking in with their kids, checking in with their family members,” said Mayor Christine Hunschofosky. “It’s important, if people have firearms at home, that they’re locked up and secured, so no one who shouldn’t have access to them is able to gain access to them.”  Dr. Kelly Posner Gerstenhaber, a psychiatry professor at Columbia University has developed a list of questions that anyone can ask to identify people who may be at risk of suicide.  She explains that suicide is preventable but it requires ending the stigma surrounding depression and other mental illness, not waiting for people who are hurt to speak out on their own.  “They don’t necessarily have the will to come and ask for help,” Dr. Posner said. “We should be asking these questions the way we monitor blood pressure.”  The high school brought in counselors and therapy dogs for Stoneman Douglas students immediately after the shooting last year.  At the start of the 2018-2019 school year last fall, the school district also opened a “resiliency center” at a park, with counselors and support groups for suffering families.  That center is open this week, even though the school is now on spring break.  The community has come together, as we all have seen from TV broadcasts, political rallies and documentaries, however, it is still facing an extremely turbulent time.  Public officials are being held accountable for missing the signals displayed by the gunman prior to the attack, who is still awaiting a trial for capital murder. Just last week, the school district placed the principal of the school under investigation, as well as school board members and even the school’s superintendent, Robert W. Runcie, had to fight to keep his job.  “There’s a lot of good going on in our community. But we cannot ignore what else is happening,” said Mayor Hunschofsky.  The emotional trauma these students and family members have faced will last for decades.  Columbine High and Newton’s Sandy Hook massacre are all, unfortunately, lead examples of how survivors fight to overcome their attacks.  Newton also set up a resiliency center shortly after the shooting as a place for therapy and for people to gather to talk.  “There’s mixed feelings throughout the town,” Stephanie Clinque, the center’s executive director, said.  “Grief is complicated. It’s very sad for the family, the children, the entire community. We’re letting people know it’s ok to have those feelings.”  A Columbine High massacre survivor Heather Martin was not physically injured but said it took several years to overcome the shooting.  She helped with the Rebels Project which was named after Columbine’s mascot, which assisted mass trauma survivors.  “Resilience is connecting with other people and gaining strength from other people,” Martin said.  “You don’t always have to be the strongest person.” *If you are having thoughts of suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255*

Kate Spade Left a Suicide Note for Her Daughter: Report

A handful of new details have emerged in regard to the shocking and tragic death of Kate Spade . As previously reported, the fashion icon seemingly committed suicide inside her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday morning, with Spade’s housekeeper finding her boss’s body around 10:20 a.m. Spade was 55 years old. The veteran handbag maker reportedly used a scarf tied to a bedroom door knob to take her own life. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly after this horrible news went public, Kate Spade New York released the following statement via its official Twitter account: Kate Spade, the visionary founder of our brand, has passed. Our thoughts are with her family at this incredibly heartbreaking time. We honor all the beauty she brought into this world. We can also now confirm that Spade’s husband was at the apartment when his wife’s body was discovered. Spade was one of the world’s most famous fashion designers. She was specifically known and respected for creating a line of handbags and jewelry in the 1990s… which blossomed into a fashion enterprise with over 140 retail stores across the United States. Kate got her start in the 1980s, working for women’s magazine “Mademoiselle” in Manhattan. Together with husband Andy (the brother of actor David Space), Spade launched Kate Spade Handbags in 1993; it eventually turned into a full-scale clothing and jewelry line. Spade sold her company in 2007 and took some time off to raise her daughter. However,  Kate then got back in the fashion game in 2016 by launching a new brand called Frances Valentine … named after her daughter, who’s now 13 years old. This is especially relevant and sad at the moment because The New York Post reports that Kate did, in fact, leave a suicide note. It mainly addressed her daughter, telling Frances that her suicide was NOT the teenager’s fault. A police source, meanwhile, told this same newspaper that the suicide was due to “relationship problems.” We don’t feel comfortable speculating beyond that. In response to this news, a number of celebrities have expressed their sadness and surprise on Twitter. Take fellow designer Liz Lange, for instance: The nicest woman, the first person to compliment me on Liz Lange Maternity when I first started. And the creator of the most iconic brand. I am heart broken by this news. And Chelsea Clinton: My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college. I still have it. Holding Kate’s family, friends and loved ones in my heart. And Tess Holliday: Kate Spade & her brand have always been so kind to me the past couple years & I’m crushed to hear about her passing. Suicide isn’t ‘the easy way out’ and shouldn’t be mocked. My heart goes out to her family & team today. And Ivanka Trump: Kate Spade’s tragic passing is a painful reminder that we never truly know another’s pain or the burden they carry. If you are struggling with depression and contemplating suicide, please, please seek help. If you or someone you know is in emotional distress or considering suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
