Jay-Z’s ‘Fade to Black’ Doc Is Finally Available on TIDAL

Source: James Devaney / Getty You’d think one of the first things Jay-Z would do when TIDAL came about was add his cult classic concert documentary Fade To Black to the visual library, but you’d be wrong. Luckily he’s finally decided to let his OG fans re-experience the 15-year-old film while letting new millennial fans get a better understanding on why he’s the G.O.A.T to so many of us. According to Hypebeast , Jay-Z’s “farewell” concert documentary will finally be available for streaming for TIDAL subscribers four years after Jay-Z’s Project Panther Bidco Ltd acquired the streaming service. Originally released in 2004, Fade To Black was a behind the scenes concert documentary that followed Jay-Z throughout his creative process during what was supposed to be his swan song LP, The Black Album , and his farewell concert at Madison Square Garden. Featuring appearances from timeless artists like Missy Elliott, P. Diddy and of course, Beyoncé, the film was everything Jay-Z fans could’ve asked for at the time it dropped. Naturally, we all know that Jay-Z didn’t retire like planned after the release of the album and the documentary, and for that we’re grateful. Still, it was a great piece of work from directors Patrick Paulson Michael and John Warren and will forever be a piece of music history. Are you excited about watching Fade To Black on TIDAL? Let us know.

Donald Trump to Meghan Markle: You’re Too Weak For Public Life! You Need to Develop a Thick Skin, Like Me!

Folks, there’s irony, and then there’s whatever the hell this is. As you know, self-proclaimed billionaire Donald John Trump is famous for many things — a complexion the color of ripe mango flesh, the most corrupt presidential administration in US history, and of course, the introduction of the phrase ” Russian pee tape ” into the journalistic mainstream. But one thing the Donald is not known for is his ability to withstand criticism. In fact, we’ve eaten apples with thicker skins than the current American president. (If you’re keeping score at home, we’ve now compared Trump to two different fruits, and neither of them was an orange! #Trailblazing) So the idea of 45 offering advice to anyone on how to endure the slings and arrows of negative press coverage is downright hilarious. But the most unintentionally funny politician in American history decided to bless us with a Friday afternoon chuckle by doing exactly that: Trump enjoys speaking with the Brexit folks across the pond because ass-kissing Brits like Piers Morgan live to boost our president’s self-esteem. So it’s no great surprise that Trump sat down for a live radio interview with Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage. What is surprising is that Donnie took the opportunity to encourage Meghan Markle to toughen up a bit. “Well I’ve been watching her interviews and I’ve seen it and she’s taking it very personally,” Trump responded when asking about Duchess Meghan’s handling of negative press coverage. “I guess you’ve got to be a little bit different than that but she takes it very personally and I can understand it. But I don’t know her.” Asked for his feelings on Prince Harry, Trump had this to say: ‘I met him when I was over at that incredible… we had something that was so incredible recently. “What that was five months ago, time flies. He’s a great young man. The whole family is great, it’s a great family.” This whole thing is funny for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that Trump clearly tries but fails to remember the name of an event he attended a few months ago. If his memory were a little sharper, he’d probably recall that Meghan snubbed him at said event. He might also remember that she had good reason to do so, as Trump called Meghan a “nasty woman” just prior to touching down in the UK. It’s a testament to her grace and dignity that Meg chose not to fire back at Trump — she knows better than to go after such low-hanging fruit. Wack 100 Gets Into It With YG After Calling Out Fake Gang-Affiliated Rappers

Source: Keipher McKennie / Getty Wack 100 Argues With YG About His Gang Affiliation Things are going left over on the West Coast. An Instagram post on Friday night over on Wack 100’s page ended up starting some serious rap beef. The famous hip-hop manager shared a screenshot of some text where he called out rappers who claim to be about that street life, but are really faking it for the industry. “One thing I respect is this – Blueface came into this rap game Crip’n,” Wack wrote in his post. “The Game came into it Piru’n – Mozzy came into it Blood’n – some of you n***as was wearing skinny jeans and dancing without a gang slogan coming out ya mouth until you got enough money to buy you a set.” View this post on Instagram Wish a nigga would say a word I’ll embarrassed the fuck outta nigga playing with me !!!! Enough is enough if it’s on let it be on …. A post shared by The GodFather (@wack100) on Aug 2, 2019 at 7:06pm PDT Wack assisted all of the text in his photo with a caption that reads, “Wish a n***a would say a word I’ll embarrassed the f**k outta n***a playing with me !!!! Enough is enough if it’s on let it be on ….” While he didn’t name any names in his IG post, YG clearly felt slighted and decided to slide into his comments to let the manager know he got the message loud and clear. “You shoulda @‘d me big gangsta og piru god father,” the rapper wrote in Wack’s comment section. He added more comments later, including a stream of laughing emojis, calling out Wack’s “Instagram fingers,” and another writing, “don’t beg me to do no more verses either.” The manager then entered the comment section, responding to YG and writing, “I @ you on your own post little n***a ! You’d a little n***a gone always be a little n***a mr Toot it and Boot it wasn’t a gang sign in the video all SKINNY JEANS ! The words described you that’s why ya responded you knew it was you !!!! SHOE FIT WEAT IT N***A.” He also left another comment saying, “@yg @DefjamYG was how you came into this s**t ! I think you bigger than the funk ! School Yards saved your ass at that studio wasn’t no Damu’s #BigWy coached you on your first ‘BLOOD’ verse to come out your mouth ! If it was a problem N***a i told @Tyga to take us off and by the way I got the screen shots your team ain’t loyal. You better bick back.” View this post on Instagram #YG wasn’t here for the subs #Wack100 was throwing A post shared by The Shade Room (@theshaderoom) on Aug 2, 2019 at 8:23pm PDT From Wack’s clarification in the comments about the “Toot It And Boot It” music video, it’s pretty clear that his initial post was indeed a sub at YG–which implies that there were some other issues between them boiling before this. The rapper just released a collaboration with Blueface and Tyga called “Bop,” a few days ago–and since Wack 100 is Blueface’s manager, his encounters with YG while making the track are probably what led to this apparent feud.

20 Minutes Saved Laz Alonso’s Mother From Gun Violence

See the original post:

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty The concept of legacy is nothing new to Laz Alonso . The seasoned actor who has starred in films like Jumping The Broom and Just Wright has been forced to think apart from his own financial future from the start of his career. He revealed his first major purchase when Hollywood came calling on the red carpet for the Prudential documentary Legacy Lives On . “I bought my mom a house,” said the actor. He made the purchase with his check from 2005’s Jarhead . Many would have used their windfall from the popcorn flick to splurge on something selfish, but Alonso had one agenda protecting his mother from falling victim to gun violence . “This was D.C. in the eighties,” he explained. “My mother used to park her car in this lady’s house, and she rented rooms too.” His mother routinely parked her car at the woman’s home to prevent it from being broken into or stolen at the height of the city’s crack epidemic. “She went inside and had tea with the old lady every day after work,” he said. “One day my mother got there and there was police tape around the house. One of the rooms was rented to a drug dealer and one day they came in the house and shot the old lady, the drug dealer and the drug dealer’s kids,” he continued somberly. “She had stayed at work a little late this one particular day. Otherwise she would have been there at the table.” Seeing how close his mother had come to losing her life forced Alonso to focus on how money could be a tool to provide for him and his loved ones. “I was like ‘I gotta get my mother out of here. I don’t care how much debt it’s gonna put me in.’” A consistent fixture on the large and small screens he has used his money to invest in not only real estate but projects that afford him the luxuries accompanied by ownership .  He praised the documentary for offering what he called “practical tips not vague information,” on how to save and invest.  He also expressed a desire to make an “investment in the community,” with the funds from his current projects including an Amazon Prime TV Show called The Boys where he will work with Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba. He advises younger actors coming into the industry as streaming services threaten to dismantle traditional business models to do the same. “Create, create create,” he said.  “You should be creating. Your intellectual property is your real estate.” DON’T MISS: This Black Financial Blogger Helped Create A Bill To Teach Middle Schoolers Money Management Will Rihanna’s Deal With LVMH Be The Key To More Black Women In Fashion? Chicago Gets Its First Black-Owned Urgent Care Facility

See the original post:

B lack doctors are making power moves in medicine. According to the Chicago Crusader , a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility. They just opened the first Black owned urgent care facility on the south side of Chicago. https://t.co/OnUEIvKAeb — #becauseofthemwecan (@Becauseofthem) May 9, 2019 The center—dubbed Premier Health Urgent Care—is the only one of its kind in the Hyde Park community. It was a collaborative effort between Reuben C. Rutland, MD , Airron Richardson, MD , Michael A. McGee, MD , and former NFL player Dr. Gregory Primus . Aware of the lack of access to adequate health services, they were determined to cultivate a space where individuals can receive proper care and support. The center goes beyond providing urgent care, it has mental health and wellness services as well. “We are happy to open an urgent care in Hyde Park because the community needs it. I see so many urban professionals who either delay or go without care because of time constraints. No one has 8 hours to wait in the emergency department for a minor illness or the flexibility to wait 3 weeks because their primary care doctor is booked solid. We are here to help fill that gap,” Dr. Rutland said in a statement. “We are not in competition with the doctors’ offices or the emergency department. We are a supplement to them both, to help relieve the stress on those two facilities.” The founders are also using the center as an avenue to combat violence in Chicago. They will give some of its profits to an organization called Project Outreach and Prevention which develops programming for at-risk youth in an effort to keep them off the streets and on the right track. There are several Black medical professionals launching urgent care centers designed to help individuals from underserved communities. In 2018, Dr. Tamara Moise and Wadson Fils opened the doors to Big Apple Urgent Care, Brooklyn’s first Black-owned urgent care center. Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon Clothing Store Closes Its Doors

Source: Reagan Elam / Reagan Elam-relam@radio-one.com via NewsOne.com : Nipsey Hussle ‘s beloved Marathon Clothing store has closed its doors in in South Central Los Angeles. However, that does not mean it’s the end of merchandising for the rapper’s legacy. The Marathon Clothing is still fully operational online but its doors were closed this week and there was no word on when it will reopen. There were unconfirmed reports that Marathon Clothing has made $10 million since the rapper’s untimely death. If that was true, coupled with Nipsey Hussle’s estimated net worth of $8 million, his multiple investments that included buying a strip mall likely have his family set up for life. pic.twitter.com/WHnKn9hq1W — Karen Civil (@KarenCivil) May 6, 2019 Hussle was shot and killed outside of the Marathon Clothing store on March 31. The suspect, 29-year-old Eric Holder, was arrested on April 2 in Bellflower, California. He has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Said he was a rapper and this old bulls**t. Shook our hands, the dude went and got his burger. He left.” Douglas also added, “What seems to be a less talented rapper had envy and hate in his eyes. Shortly before his death, he was talking with Steve Soboroff, president of the Los Angeles Police Commission, about how to avoid youth from getting involved in gangs. Waller County DA Not Aware Of “New Evidence” To Re-Open Sandra Bland Case

Source: Pacific Press / Getty Despite newly surfaced video evidence from  Sandra Bland ‘s point of view during her ill-fated 2015 arrest, Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis has no desire to re-open her case. “Five special prosecutors were appointed to consider the evidence. The grand jury was diligent and considering the facts and circumstances considering the arrest and her subsequent death of Ms. Bland. I have no knowledge at this time of new evidence to second guess the work of those five prosecutors or the grand jury.” The video, cellphone footage from Bland’s phone on the day of the July 2015 arrest was released to the public after being obtained by WFAA. Her sister demanded that her case be re-opened in light of the evidence surfacing. “Open up the case, period,” Bland’s sister Shante Needham said when reporter Brian Collister showed her the video. On Tuesday, investigators and special prosecutor Darrell Jordan pushed back on that notion, saying Bland’s cellphone video was considered during the original investigation. The lawyer for Brian Encinia, the arresting officer in the case said that Bland’s cellphone was given back to her family years ago. “It was part of the evidence that was considered since day one,” Encinia’s attorney Chip Lewis said. “It actually goes towards the defense I put forth that he did what he was required to do under the law and his training which was remove her from the potential threat.” Encinia was indicted for perjury. However, the charge was dropped in exchange for him never working in law enforcement again. Texas DPS also released a statement about Bland’s cellphone video: “The cellphone recording is referenced by Ms. Bland in the dash cam video that was released by the department on July 22, 2015. The video recording from Ms. Bland’s cellphone was specifically identified multiple times in the Ranger Report of Investigation. The Ranger report was made available to all the litigants during the civil litigation filed by her family. At all times, the department complied with its discovery obligations in the civil litigation. “Additionally, the video from Ms. Bland’s cellphone has been treated as public information and made available upon request (see attached). Brian Collister, the reporter who describes the video as “newly discovered,” filed a public information request back in August 2017. Mr. Collister specifically requested the video from Ms. Bland’s cellphone, and the department provided the video to Mr. Collister at that time. Again, we reiterate that the video is not newly discovered and has in no way been concealed by the department.” RELATED:  Sandra Bland Secretly Recorded 2015 Traffic Stop With Overly Aggressive Officer RELATED:  Sandra Bland HBO Documentary Releases First Clip Ahead Of Premiere RELATED:  Sandra Bland Museum Exhibit Is Latest To Use Art To Honor Police Deaths Of Unarmed Black People

Kim Kardashian to Star In True Crime Documentary!

Kim Kardashian is about to show us a side of her that we have never seen.  And honestly, never in a million years thought we would.  But the time has finally come — we must all prepare ourselves to meet the new and improved lawyer Kim in her not so red-carpet environment. That’s right. We will actually get to press pause on all the Kardashian clan’s drama and finally get to watch sista Kim do something a little more, well, productive.  The reality queen is breaking out of her E! Kingdom and heading on over to the NBC affiliated channel Oxygen to show off her more serious, Elle Woods side.  Oxygen Media has recently greenlighted five new series, including Kim’s new show, Kim Kardashian: The Justice Project (working title). The new 2-hour documentary will follow  Kim’s campaign for criminal justice reform and her efforts to grant freedom for Americans who she believes have been wronged by the justice system. According to a press release, the project promises “an exclusive, never before seen look inside her mission to tackle one of America’s most controversial subjects.” Kim is fully on board and is serving as executive producer alongside Bunim Murray Production with Gil Goldschein, Julie Pizzi and Farnaz Farjam.  The new program comes after Kim recently publicized her decision to become a lawyer and after she freed Alice Marie Johnson.  Alice happens to be her most notable case , though we recently learned she is not the only person to have been pardoned by Mrs. Kardashian-West.  According to TMZ , Kim has secretly freed over 17 inmates — all in the past 3 months!  She has secured pardons for several of these first-time non-violent offenders who were locked up on drug charges, many of whom were serving life sentences.  Kim’s team — who deals more with the legalities, rather than footing the bills or landing a meeting with the President — consists of her lawyer, Brittany K. Barnett, along with lawyer MiAngel Cody. Barnett says without Kim’s financial support, none of this would’ve been possible.  But don’t be fooled, she does way more than just handle all the legal fees.  “Our relationships with our clients don’t end when they are freed. [Kim] is truly dedicated to the issue,” Barnett said. “I work personally with her, we are really grateful.” And while some may find it unusual that Kim hasn’t been sharing these success stories with her 60 million Twitter followers, Barnett says it’s because they have all been extremely “busy.” “[Kim] has been on the phone as we’ve told clients they are coming home,” Barnett said.  “I think one, she really wants to be taken seriously, so she is really focused on learning the system and the people who are directly impacted.” “That takes a lot of focus, too. It’s not always amplified with social media.” But we can now rest easy knowing that we will still get to keep up with this Kardashian as she works to reform the prison system.  This upcoming documentary is part of a large slate of new programming from Oxygen with Ice-T, Mark Whalberg, Nancy Grace and more all involved with prominent issues.  “Oxygen is tremendously excited to work with some of the biggest names in the industry on such important projects,” Rod Aissa, executive vice president of original programming and development for Oxygen, said in a statement.  “This year we’ve increased our original hours by more than 30 percent, and we’ll keep ramping up our programming efforts as more fans flock to the network to experience the best in class content.”  Premiere dates have yet to be released, but we are so ready.  View Slideshow: Kanye West: I’ve Been Used!
