Iowa Farmer Found Guilty Of Killing His Wife With A Corn Rake

Source: Antonio Garcia / EyeEm / Getty On Monday, a hog farmer in Iowa was found guilty for the murder of his wife , who died in November 2018 after being impaled with a corn rake. According to reports from The Telegraph Herald , a jury in Dubuque County convicted 43-year-old Todd Mullis of first-degree murder in the death of his wife Amy Mullis. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. This conviction comes almost a year after Amy was found on the couple’s farm with the tool lodged in her back. Police said back in March that Amy’s death came not long after Todd learned that she had multiple affairs behind his back. She had apparently warned people beforehand that if her husband caught ever her cheating, “he might make me disappear.” She also was said to have told a friend that if she ever vanished, “you’ll know Todd did something to me.” Well, she was right. Email Submit Todd insisted to authorities that his wife simply fell on the sharp tool while by herself, but medical examiners found six puncture wounds and noted the rake was four-pronged. During the trial, Dr. Kelly Kruse–the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy on Amy’s body–testified Amy’s cause of death was sharp-force injuries of the torso, saying that Amy  was impaled at least twice and possibly three times  by the corn rake. Back in March, it was reported that Todd called 911 the day his wife died. He told police that he removed the rake and started driving his wife to the hospital, which is when they were met by an ambulance who rushed Amy to the emergency room. That is where she was declared dead. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). Amy and Todd were married in 2004, and had three children together. Police learned during their investigation that the couple’s marital problems began in 2013, when Todd caught Amy cheating. Even though Todd continued to tell detectives the relationship was fine, police eventually learned a second lover was discovered last summer. That second lover, Jerry Frasher, testified in trial, and told police that Amy had said she wanted to leave her husband but was “scared to death” of him. Defense attorney Gerald Feuerhelm told The Telegraph Herald Todd would appeal the court’s ruling. Abby Lee Miller: I Was 10 Minutes From DEATH!

After well over a year of surguries, painful treatments, and intense physical therapy, Abby Lee Miller was able to walk again this month. Those few steps were a major accomplishment, and only now is Miller revealing how bad things truly got. Before her emergency surgery, she wasn’t just at risk of death — she was dying . Abby Lee Miller spoke to HollywoodLife at the Creative Arts Emmys. “I lived,” she begins, really setting the tone for how dire her situation was. Before surgery, Miller reveals, “the doctor said ‘we have 10 minutes or we are going to lose her.’” “And that is how close to death I was,” she grimly explains. Burkitt Lymphoma may have a high survival rate, but only among those who catch it in time. With Miller, it was a very close call for what doctors initially assumed was a mere infection. “This spinal cord injury, choking my spinal cord and all of that,” Miller says, came close to claiming her life. Even once she was out of the proverbial woods in that respect, she reveals, she remained paralyzed. “I can take just a few steps with the walker,” Miller detailed. Famously, she took a few steps on stage on The Doctors . We have included that video in this post. “I yell at friends all the time when I get frustrated and upset,” Miller admits. She explains: “I am like ‘why did you not just let me die? Dying’s easy, you just lay there, you know this is hard, it’s tough.’” Miller has expressed how her cancer battle made her want to die in the past. “And,” she continues. “They said ‘he did not give us a choice, he just said I am going in and we said oh, okay.’” Unless you have a DNR, that’s just how it goes. “I guess I have some more dreams to fulfill,” Miller reflects. “I have other things that I want to do,” she expresses. “And,” Miller reveals. “Doing other shows I am creating.” “And you know there is always a kid who needs to straighten their legs and point their feet,” Miller reasons. There’s the Miller we know and … know. Finding purpose in life through terrorizing children into dancing properly. “I was at the California Rehabilitation Institute. It’s amazing,” she says of her intense therapy to walk again. Miller shares: “It’s fabulous and you have therapy four times a day, four hours a day, every day, Saturday, and Sunday included.” “Now once they release you and your insurance says ‘that’s it’, then you’re an out patient and you go for an hour, three times a week,” she adds. “So you spend an hour getting there, you do it for an hour, and then you leave for an hour,” Miller admits. “And it’s really not the same intensity.” Even famous people have to deal with our absurd and nightmarish healthcare system. But through hard work, a refusal to give up, and expert care, Miller is alive and making improvements in her mobility. Her doctors have admitted that she has missed some screenings, but say that she is cancer-free. That is good news. Whatever we may think of her as a human being, no one deserves cancer. Whitney Port Shares Miscarriage Heartbreak With Fans

Sad news out of the world of reality television today. Whitney Port — most recently of MTV’s The Hills revival — has revealed in an emotional Instagram post that she’s suffered a miscarriage. Port married Tim Rosenman in 2015, and the couple welcomed a son named Sonny in 2017. Just weeks ago, Port learned that she was pregnant — and not long thereafter, she was informed that she would be unable to carry the child to term. While that’s always heartbreaking news, Port’s candor is something of a silver lining, as she’s been discussing the incident openly, as well as the wide array of emotions she felt as a result. And we’re guessing many women are feeling less alone as a result of her words. Whitney Port Opens Up About Miscarriage On Tuesday, Port posted a video of herself discussing the miscarriage during an appearance on her With Whit podcast. While she was obviously devastated by the loss of the fetus, she admits that she was suffering severe anxiety about the prospect of another pregnancy, particularly considering the complications she experienced while carrying her first child: “The amount of various emotions I felt in the past couple weeks have been extreme…from shock to sadness to relief, which then led to guilt for feeling that relief,” Port said. “My identity has been shaken in regards to who as a mom and human being,” the 34-year-old continued. “I’m currently in the process of learning to accept that my feelings are valid no matter what they are. Whether or not people feel the same way as me or not. “They are my personal emotions that are the result from my own journey.” Port says the early weeks of her second pregnancy were intense and she braced herself for the complications she experienced the first time around: “What’s weird is that I was having massive pregnancy symptoms for the first six weeks, I was really nauseous and really exhausted,” she shared with listeners. “And all of the sudden they kind of just stopped, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, maybe the second pregnancy is gonna be amazing and I’m not gonna feel all this crap that I felt.'” Port added: “And I was really thinking glass half full at that moment.” “I feel like I’m not pregnant.” Whitney recalls telling her husband, adding that she wasn’t experiencing “any symptoms anymore.” “We went to go get an ultrasound and my doctor said things didn’t look good but that it was still kind of too early to tell,” Whitney said on her show. “And he said to wait it out. It felt so horrible to be in this limbo position.” “We ended up going back to the emergency room for a second time because the bleeding got worse,” Port revealed. “And we got confirmation that my blood level was at a 3,000 and at the point I was in my pregnancy it’s supposed to be at about 10 to 20,000, and we found out that there was no heartbeat and there should’ve been a heartbeat at that point.” Whitney went on to admit that she’s surprised by some of the emotions she’s experienced in the two weeks since the miscarriage occurred: “I can’t say I feel relieved,” Whitney said. “I feel sad because the whole thing is just traumatic, it’s traumatic to think about your body going through this and something being in you that could have been someone like a Sonny or something,” she added. “I feel sad but, I do also feel happy that my body is still my own right now and that this isn’t an extra thing we didn’t plan for.” As for whether or not she and her husband will try again for a second child, Port says that remains undecided  “If this happens on its own, then amazing, it is meant to be and we will have a second child. And if it doesn’t happen, then we’ll discuss it when we’re both ready to have it,” she says. Port admits to still feeling “scared” about the prospect of another pregnancy and says she experienced mixed emotions after learning that her pregnancy was not viable. “I felt extremely ashamed and guilty that I felt this way,” Whitney said. “And so, these layers of shame and guilt make it so hard to talk about.” We can see why Whitney would feel confused by her own emotions. But we’re guessing millons have felt the same, and no doubt many of them are glad that she shared her story. View Slideshow: The Hills Premiere: 13 Crazy Moments We Still Can’t Get Over

The Bachelorette Recap: Back the Eff Off, Luke!

In a word? ROAR! Hannah Brown went ahead and activated Beast Mode on this week’s emotionally-charged episode of The Bachelorette. She also went to the emergency room… But we’ll start with Hannah’s one-on-one date with Connor S., which opened with the suitor believing himself to be the “luckiest guy in the world.” That is, until he received a note from The Bachelorette star that read: “Connor, I’m so sorry but I have to cancel my plans for our date today. I’m not feeling 100 percent. Please come over to my hotel suite to keep me company. Love, Hannah.” Was this just an excuse by Hannah to get Connor alone and strip him naked?!?!? No. After stopping at the grocery store to grab flowers and soup, Connor arrived at Hannah’s hotel to discovered that she had spent time in the hospital after she “basically passed out” and “got pumped with some fluids.” Any fantasies he had about their date came to an end right then and there. The pair did hang out in bed together a bit, however, allowing Connor to reveal that his mother got into a skiing accident when he was 13 and had a subsequent stroke. Seeing how his dad cared for his mom during this awful time gave Connor a model of the marriage he hopes to have one day. It was a powerful story. “That’s really what I aspire to have and the love that I want,” he told Hannah. After sending Connor home so she could rest, Hannah awoke to discover some very romantic sticky notes he had sent here. She then had him called back into her presence, where she gave him a rose (and a kiss!) and the two enjoyed a private performance by Lukas Graham. Luke P., as you might imagine, was a bit crazed curious about Hannah’s condition. The Bachelorette villain/front-runner peppered Connor with questions about her prior to this week’s group date, which involved a group date photo shoot inspired by Hannah’s love for dogs. This time, however, his aggressive did not pay off. “Luke P. stole the show again but in a negative way,” Hannah said in an on-camera interview abou Luke walking her to her dressing room. “I know he’s one of my strongest connections, but it’s annoying when he tries to flaunt our connection in front of the guys. There have been just some little red flags about how he carries himself that bothers me a little bit. “‘It’s like this fine line of: I really think it’s attractive to it’s the most unattractive thing that I’ve ever seen in my life.” A bunch of famous viewers out there have been telling Hannah it should be the latter. Like we said above, though, Hannah is not timid. She can be quite aggressive herself — and she confronted Luke this week’s about his behavior. “I’ve been struggling a little bit with it because I feel like you already think that it’s promised to you and that bothers me a lot,” she said. “And like, I feel like your confidence in this kind of makes me irritated in a way. … I want you to like focus on me and you do that, but you also don’t respect that I do have other relationships here for me and that bothers me. “I like confidence but it’s like cocky in a way. I don’t like that at all. I want it to change.” Did Luke listen closely and take this advice to heart? NOPE! “I’m going to act like the conversation never happened.,” he told the camera. Therefore, he kept interrupting Hannah’s moments with other men… and kept earning her wrath in the process. “I promise I’m going to talk you again but I don’t want to do this right now,” Hannah said when Luke P. made an effort to snag her once more, adding: “Let me talk to everybody, but like I want to call my own shots, okay? I want to call my own shots. I said I was going to talk to you and I will talk to you again.” View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Spoilers: Check Out Hannah Brown’s Final THREE! [UPDATED] This reaction left Luke very sad. “I can’t stand this process,” he lamented. “Honestly, it’s tough for me. I would like to say I’m a strong guy here and that this is easy, but it’s not. I even had thoughts about leaving here tonight, about going home tonight. “Just because I can’t say that I’m in love with her. I mean, if I did feel that way then I would be ready to get down on one knee.” It’s been three weeks. Dude is starting to legitimately frighten us. Thankfully, he did claim to have gotten the message after Hannah (yet again ) delivered it to him as follows: “I still don’t feel like you’re getting it, okay? You’re not the only relationship that I have a strong connection with and I don’t feel like you’ve respected that even tonight. “So I just need you to work harder and fix this.”” At the end of the date, meanwhile, Hannah gave the group date rose to Peter, with whom she is swapping spit above. During the other group date, on which Jenny Mollen and Jason Biggs offered lessons on female anatomy and having a baby because of course they did… Cam fought for time with Hannah. He did so by constantly breaking into her conversations with the other men, even ovetly standing there while Mike confessed to Hannah that he had gotten an ex pregnant and she lost the baby in the second trimester. Yikes, right? But Cam didn’t care about this hearbreaking story — he had his very own to tell. “If we’re going to talk about bold gestures, I actually had to resign from my job,” Cam told Hannah. “I want you to know that I chose to be here for you and I don’t want to let any other guys get in the way of that.” View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Stars: Where Are They Now? At the tailgate party (which awesomely replaced the cocktail party), Cam pulled Hannah aside and said his piece: “Back in the year 2014 I was getting off work and all of a sudden my right leg locked up on me. “And all of a sudden I was running a fever and they had to rush me to the hospital. Essentially, they told me that I need to get an amputation. So life really tried to beat me down. “The day before I got surgery, I got a call from my dad that my grandma had passed away. The most recent surgery that I had [in] November of 2017 hit me the hardest because I actually had a 10-month-old puppy at the time that I was super close to that I had to re-home.” Sounds terrible, right? Not to Mike. He called total BS on Cam and accused him of angling for a “pity rose.” When Hannah questioned Cam about the validity of his story and his intentions, Cam alleged: “I would never compromise the integrity of what I’ve been through for a pity rose. Like, this is a serious thing.” But he also confessed to writing weird letters to the other suitors because he thought he was gonna be sent home. “This just feels really schemey and slimy to me,” Hannah said in response. “It just feels really, really calculated. I’m having a hard time right now and I need to think about it.” After mulling over her decision, Hannah sent Cam home at the rose ceremony, along with Jonathan and Joey. Tyler G. also “had to leave” earlier, Hannah disclosed mysteriously, although she gave no reason as to why he departed.

Chicago Gets Its First Black-Owned Urgent Care Facility

B lack doctors are making power moves in medicine. According to the Chicago Crusader , a group of African American medical professionals joined forces to open up Chicago’s only Black-owned urgent care facility. They just opened the first Black owned urgent care facility on the south side of Chicago. https://t.co/OnUEIvKAeb — #becauseofthemwecan (@Becauseofthem) May 9, 2019 The center—dubbed Premier Health Urgent Care—is the only one of its kind in the Hyde Park community. It was a collaborative effort between Reuben C. Rutland, MD , Airron Richardson, MD , Michael A. McGee, MD , and former NFL player Dr. Gregory Primus . Aware of the lack of access to adequate health services, they were determined to cultivate a space where individuals can receive proper care and support. The center goes beyond providing urgent care, it has mental health and wellness services as well. “We are happy to open an urgent care in Hyde Park because the community needs it. I see so many urban professionals who either delay or go without care because of time constraints. No one has 8 hours to wait in the emergency department for a minor illness or the flexibility to wait 3 weeks because their primary care doctor is booked solid. We are here to help fill that gap,” Dr. Rutland said in a statement. “We are not in competition with the doctors’ offices or the emergency department. We are a supplement to them both, to help relieve the stress on those two facilities.” The founders are also using the center as an avenue to combat violence in Chicago. They will give some of its profits to an organization called Project Outreach and Prevention which develops programming for at-risk youth in an effort to keep them off the streets and on the right track. There are several Black medical professionals launching urgent care centers designed to help individuals from underserved communities. In 2018, Dr. Tamara Moise and Wadson Fils opened the doors to Big Apple Urgent Care, Brooklyn’s first Black-owned urgent care center.
