Paul Allen’s Relationship With Black America, Explained

A s the nation mourned the passing of Microsoft co-founder and NFL and NBA franchise owner Paul Allen , family, friends and fans were sharing memories of his life, including his relationships with African-Americans. Allen, who died from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in Seattle on Monday afternoon, was 65 years old. Known for his work to innovate technology and with Vulcan, his network of philanthropic organizations and efforts, the billionaire philanthropist was also the owner of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and NBA’s Portland Trailblazers. Because of the two sports teams, Allen had many interactions with African-American athletes, including Colin Kaepernick , whose case accusing NFL ownership of colluding to keep him from playing has moved forward in court. The Seahawks then  reached back out to Kaepernick to schedule another visit this past April at a time when many people of color felt the quarterback was being blackballed from the league. The Seahawks brought Colin Kaepernick in once, and talked to him about coming in for a second visit. Owner Paul Allen was deposed. Allen gave $100,000 to the GOP last month in order to help Republicans keep their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. His donation drew criticism from activists who pointed out that the NFL doesn’t support Black communities enough even though African-American players make up the league’s majority. Activists had asked the league to start depositing funds into Black-owned banks, as well. Aside from the sports world, Microsoft co-founder had also been credited with making contributions to some organizations supporting people of color, including  Adelante Mujeres , a grassroots organization that works to educate and empower Latina women and their families. He had also pledged to donate $100 million to fight Ebola , a disease that has ravaged the Black populations in West Africa. Allen also was applauded for investing in cultural institutions in Seattle and revitalizing parts of the city . However, some social media users emphasized that the major developments had opened the door for gentrifying Seattle, a practice known as a factor in driving African Americans out of certain neighborhoods. Allen never married and had no children. The soon-to-be teen allegedly revealed Crawford woke her out her sleep and asked her to perform oral sex on him followed by intercourse. Kanye West Gave Kids Free Yeezys In Uganda, Still Sunken

Source: STRINGER / Getty Kanye West is currently in Uganda and attempting to spread goodwill. The Sunken Place MC gave out free adidas Yeezys to the kids while visiting an orphanage in the city of Masulita in the East African nation.  TMZ reports that Yeezy and Kim Kardashian got permission from Uganda’s Trump supporting President,  Yoweri Museveni , to used his helicopter to fly to the charity event for kids. Kim and Ye, rocking day-glo fits, were greeted with cheers, even more so when they presented the free footwear. Of course, West posted clips of the festivities on Twitter because it didn’t really happen if it isn’t documented on social media. We gotta give him credit for visiting the orphanage, though, respect. Nevertheless, West has a LONG way to go after that Oval Office debacle, if he even cares. Really?? Ugandan Newspaper Publishes Identities Of “Top 200 Homos” In The Country After Passing Law Banning Gay Sex

Ugandan Newspaper Publishes Identities Of “Top 200 Homos” In The Country The Ugandan community has been making national headlines lately as a result of their very public anti-gay rhetoric as a country, which reached its’ peak thus far yesterday when Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni officially signed the “Anti-Homosexuality Act” into law. Now, one day after the signing a Ugandan newspaper has released a list of the top 200 gay people in the country, all but urging resident who see anyone on the list to bring them to “justice.” via Gawker If you were curious about the practical implications of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act, signed yesterday by President Yoweri Museveni, look no further than its Red Pepper newspaper, which has published the identities of what it deems the country’s “200 Top Homos” on its cover. If you thought the law banning gay sex would exist only in the realm of gay sex, you were wrong. This is a war on gay people. Red Pepper’s move is similar to that of a now defunct paper called Rolling Stone (no relation to the U.S. music magazine), which published a list of Uganda’s “Top 100 Homos” in 2010. It was a call to action: “Hang Them” read the issue’s cover. About three months later, Ugandan activist David Kato who was among the paper’s Top 100, was bludgeoned to death. In response, Rolling Stone publisher Giles Muhame said, “This looks like any other crime. I have no regrets about the story. We were just exposing people who were doing wrong.” In the 2012 documentary Call Me Kuchu, which details the struggles of the LGBT community in Uganda, Muhame giggles as he discusses his paper’s detrimental outings (there was a followup a few weeks later, which identified 10 more Ugandan gays). Regardless of your personal beliefs with regard to the LGBT community, no human being deserves to be physically harmed or brutally ridiculed for they way the choose to live their personal lives, which most likely what’s coming next following the release of this “list”. SMH!
