In a troubling report released by TMZ, sources claim that Prince had been treated for a drug overdose just six days before his untimely death this morning. As we reported last week, the singer had been rushed to the hospital following an emergency plane landing. He was reportedly feeling unwell while flying home after a concert in Atlanta. A representative for Prince claimed the music icon had been battling the flu for weeks, but was doing fine after doctors treated him for symptoms. Multiple sources now say the artist was administered a “save shot,” which is typically given to counter the effects of opiate drugs such as heroin, oxycontin or morphine. At the time, doctors had advised Prince to remain in the hospital for 24 hours, but he ultimately decided to leave when he couldn’t secure a private room at the facility, according to the site. Sources reported that when Prince left the hospital, he “was not doing well.” Prince was found dead in his Minnesota home this morning. Paramedics performed CPR, but were unable to revive him. Earlier today, Prince’s former band mate Matt Fink confessed that he thought the flu excuse was bogus, and that there may have been an underlying health problem we didn’t know about. The cause of death is currently being investigated. View Slideshow: Prince: Stars React to the Death of Iconic Singer
