Shailene Woodley’s Movie Awards Win Causes ‘A Waterfall Of Sweat’

‘I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces,’ she tells MTV News. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shailene Woodley at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It was Shailene Woodley ‘s first time at the MTV Movie Awards , and also her . “The Descendants” star took home the Best Breakthrough Performance Golden Popcorn and commanded the stage during her acceptance speech. But it turns out she was actually much more nervous than she let on. “I started sweating a whole lot. Like, a waterfall of sweat,” she reminisced when MTV News caught up with her immediately after her win. “I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces. Thank God they were up there. I would have been so nervous.” Sure, Woodley was nominated for a number of prestigious awards thanks to her fantastic performance in “The Descendants,” including a Golden Globe nom. But being invited to — and winning at — the MTV Movie Awards is still a big accomplishment in her life. “It’s the MTV Awards!” she gushed. “Let’s be real. This is crazy.” It turns out that this was an especially great experience for Woodley because she is a huge Russell Brand fan. She called his “awesome” and then dove into her passion for his particular brand of comedy. “He’s one of my favorite comedians. I think he’s just so effing funny, and I’m all about him and everything that he’s saying. He’s like a political, or like an anti-political activist, you know? And I really love his revolutionary thinking. I’m into it,” she said. “[He has] a really profound message, and without being preachy.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. ‘Hunger Games’ Stars Try To Cast Finnick Odair

MTV Movie Award winners Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Alexander Ludwig say whoever is cast has to have ‘a lot of charisma.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Josh Hutcherson arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Robert Pattinson won’t be playing him. Neither will Taylor Kitsch . But there are still plenty of other actors, like Armie Hammer , who could possibly fill the role of dreamy District 4 tribute Finnick Odair in “Catching Fire.” Josh Hutcherson certainly couldn’t pick when MTV News caught up with him after the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. “I mean, honestly, I have no idea. I definitely need to re-read the second book,” he said. “I haven’t read it since I first read them, before the first one. So I think I kind of need to read it again to get a better grasp.” His fellow MTV Movie Award winner for Best Fight , Alexander Ludwig, had one person he’d love to see tackle the charming and sexy Finnick. “Whenever I read the books, I always thought Ryan Reynolds would be a great Finnick.” he said. “Ryan Reynolds is just how I pictured.” When asked what characteristics Reynolds or any actor must possess to play the part, he broke it down for us. “I think he’s just got a charisma about him. Whenever I read the books, I was like ‘If I don’t get a [role] in the first one, [then I’d be interested].’ Finnick had always been something I was interested in as a character because he reminds me a little of myself.” “He’s got a really good charisma about him,” he added. “He’s also got that bit of an egotistical edge to him which isn’t like me but I love it as character. It’s hilarious and he’s a really strong character too and he’s a really big part of the second book. He’s the most anticipated character in my mind as well. I can’t wait to see who they cast for him.” Best On-Screen Transformation winner and fellow “HG” star Elizabeth Banks was pretty stumped to have to play casting director for the part. “I don’t [know], honestly,” she said. “Everybody that’s ever been mentioned seems fantastic. I’m sure they’ll find the right fit. I think the cast has come together in such an amazing way so far and I know that their goal is to keep adding the best people and the people that its gonna be great.” So, what does she hope Finn will be like? “You know, just charisma, just a lot of charisma,” she said. “And he’s a looker.” Hutcherson added, “Physically strong, I think that’s a big important thing. I think somebody who’s kind of similar to Peeta in the sense that he knows sort of how to work the situation a little bit. I think the physicality would be really important for Finnick because he’s such an imposing character, for sure.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. ‘Game of Thrones’ Star ‘Constantly Surprised’ By Character’s Story Line

‘I know if I read too far ahead, I’d start preempting character traits or decisions he makes,’ Richard Madden tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Richard Madden as Robb Stark in season two of “Game of Thrones” Photo: Helen Sloan/ HBO The only negative thing about the fact that we’ve passed the halfway mark in this second season of “Game of Thrones” is the fact that there are precious few new episodes left until the expectedly epic season finale. But let’s dwell on the positive, shall we? As in this season’s action-packed last two episodes and what that means for where we’ll find our favorite characters in season three. For those of us who’ve read the books, we have a pretty good idea of where things are headed, depending on how many more changes the show-runners make to George R.R. Martin’s source material. But we’re always curious to know how much the actors know about the fate of their characters. MTV News recently caught up with dashing Scottish actor Richard Madden, who plays Robb Stark , and asked him how much he knows about Robb’s story line ahead of time. (His response is spoiler-free, for those who are concerned.) “I know what happens to him, I know where he goes. It’s quite different because obviously in the second book, Robb’s not in it,” Madden said. “We got green-lit for season two and I got really excited and picked up the book and started reading it, and I was like, ‘This is great! My character is going to come in at any minute!’ and then kind of halfway through it got to be, ‘Yeah, he’s gonna come in at some point?’ and then I got to the end [of the book] and I was like, ‘This sucks. I’m in the TV show but I’m not in it!’ Then luckily, David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] have brought in my story line and brought it to life, which is really great because we get so see bits that you didn’t get to see in the book. Hopefully when we get to season three, we’ve really set up these relationships. I’m keen to see how the dynamic between the two women in Robb’s life plays out going into season three.” So Madden’s familiar with the ins and outs of Martin’s second book in the series, “A Clash of Kings,” but has he ventured into the even more twisted and action-packed happenings in the third novel, “A Storm of Swords”? “It’s one of the things I try to avoid doing. I only read season by season, I don’t read ahead,” Madden revealed. “It’s one of the great things about the books that I loved is that you are constantly surprised by these characters and the story, and as an actor I want to try and stick to that. I know if I read too far ahead, I’d start preempting character traits or decisions he makes. I’d much rather be an actor and make one decision and stick to it and then have the challenge of turning it around and going in a different direction. I try and keep it like that as much as I can so the audience gets as surprised by the journey as I do when I read the books and when I read each script.” Just to be clear, we asked Madden to clarify exactly what he knows about his character’s trajectory in the epic series, since he hinted that he has an idea about Robb’s overall arc. “I know things that happen but I’ve not read it yet,” he said. “Now that season three has been green-lit, I’m excited I get to dive into that book and engulf it.” Related Photos ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season Two

There Hollywood Goes Again; Director Joe Johnston: Captain America Won’t be ‘Flag-Waver’

If insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, liberal Hollywood directors must be utterly certifiable. How else does one explain Hollywood’s penchant for de-Americanizing thoroughly patriotic superhero and/or comic book icons? Take Joe Johnston. The cinematic genius who gave the world “Jurassic Park 3” is directing a “Captain America” feature that will release in 2011, the 70th anniversary of the Marvel  superhero’s creation. Johnston told the audience at Comic-Con 2010 that Cap will not be a “jingoistic American flag-waver” but will instead be “re-interpret[ed]” as a “good person” in the World War II-set film. Noted Geoff Boucher of the Los Angeles Times blog Hero Complex : “He wants to serve his country, but he’s not this sort of jingoistic American flag-waver,” Johnston said. “He’s just a good person. We make a point of that in the script: Don’t change who you are once you go from Steve Rogers to this super-soldier, you have to stay who you are inside, that’s really what’s important more than your strength and everything. It’ll be interesting and fun to put a different spin on the character and one that the fans are really going to appreciate.” Boucher portrayed Johnston’s move as part and parcel of how modern-day directors have re-envisioned comic book staples such as Batman and Iron Man and defended him by adding: Some pundits will pounce on all of this as another desecration of an American touchstone, but how many of them have ever read the books?  The character, created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon , was certainly un-conflicted about his country and its mission during the clear-cut days of the 1940s, but it didn’t always stay that way. In late 1974, for instance, in the months after President Nixon’s resignation, Steve Rogers chucked the star-spangled costume and changed his hero name to  Nomad (although, by 1976, Cap and original artist Kirby had the hero in Bicentennial mode). True, comic book writers and illustrators are not immune from making political statements with beloved characters. But that doesn’t mean those moves are rewarded with greater market share or even the sustained loyalty of longtime fans. There’s a reason that the “Nomad” experiment fell by the wayside.  What’s more, while Boucher equates Johnston’s move with say Jon Favreau’s take on Iron Man, it is arguable that Favreau’s vision of Tony Stark/Iron Man is a fundamentally patriotic libertarian-conservative American hero. Both movies were wildly successful in both the U.S. and foreign audiences. By contrast, “GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra” — which conservative pundit Greg Gutfeld panned as ” a Benetton ad with rocket launchers ” — earned slightly less than half worldwide as did “Iron Man 2.” What’s more, the opening weekend for “GI Joe” earned only $54.7 million in its opening weekend compared to the $128.1 million “Iron Man 2” raked in during its first weekend. American and foreign movie audiences love a good superhero action flick and it doesn’t hurt to have a thoroughly patriotic American protagonist to cheer for. Image via L.A. Times.
