At long last, the Paranormal Activity /found footage horror hits are getting their own comedy spoof in the form of the Marlon Wayans vehicle A Haunted House — Paranormal Hacktivity , anyone? Ever since I first saw I’m Gonna Git You Sucka way back in the ice age (junior high), I have desperately wanted the Wayans family to be capable of consistently brilliant comedy. Unfortunately, the first thing they did after nailing it down with Sucka was In Living Color , which launched Jim Carrey’s career , which gave us Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind , but also gave us everything else… Since then, the family has been notable more for consistently producing successful comedies packed with obvious jokes that are more easily forgotten than the flavor of a rice cake. Sigh. But little brother Marlon is interesting: Consistently funny regardless of the comedic dreck he’s starred in, he’s also made a couple of surprising career decisions — being the best thing about Requiem For A Dream , for instance — that make me want to see what he does even though I know I’ll get burned. His latest, A Haunted House , is a parody of the found footage horror genre. It’s full of a lot of the same schtick as the Scary Movie series, but the cast seems game, and NSFW ghost action is kind of something the world needs. Official Synopsis: In an outrageous send up of the Paranormal Activity movies, The Devil Inside and other “found footage” movies, A Haunted House features young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) who have just moved in to their dream house. As they settle in, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, it’s Malcolm’s girlfriend who is possessed by a demon. Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghostbusters to rid her of this unwelcome intruder, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his relationship… or, more importantly, his sex life. In fairness, I kind of always want Cedric the Entertainer to be my secret dad, so that works too. A Haunted House stars Marlon Wayans, Essence Atkins, Cedric The Entertainer, Nick Swardson, David Koechner and Affion Crocket. It leaves a sticky, supernatural goo all over theaters starting January 11. Follow Ross A. Lincoln on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
Happy Golden Globes Nomination Day everyone! I’m so proud of our little engine that could. Thank you HFPA!” Emily Blunt, actress, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (Best Actress – Comedy or Musical) “I’m so incredibly thankful to the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing our little movie that could. Ewan and the entire cast and crew could not be more deserving of this honor, and I’m thrilled that I’m able to share this moment among such a fantastic group of nominees.” Ben Affleck , director of Argo (Best Director, Best Motion Picture – Drama) “I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for honoring Argo with five nominations. These nominations reflect the courage and determination of real life heroes in the US, Canada, Iran and across the globe. They honor more than 120 actors with speaking roles in multiple languages, thousands of extras in the US and abroad as well as hundreds of extraordinary crewmembers who poured their heart into the film — including the great Alan Arkin, brilliant Chris Terrio and extraordinary Alexandre Desplat, who were nominated today as well and who have my congratulations and gratitude. Thanks again to the HFPA for their support.” Kathryn Bigelow , director/producer of Zero Dark Thirty (Best Director, Best Motion Picture – Drama) “It’s an honor, sincerely, and very humbling to be singled out this way by the HFPA. And a big congratulations to the amazing Jessica Chastain and my producing partner and screenwriter Mark Boal.” Anne Hathaway , actress, Les Miserables (Best Supporting Actress) “What a great way to wake up! I couldn’t be happier or more grateful for this news. Congratulations to Hugh and everyone who worked on Les Miz for their contribution to the best picture nomination!!!” Judi Dench, actress, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (Best Actress – Comedy or Musical) “This is lovely news… Having had such a glorious time in India, I’m so happy for John Madden and Graham Broadbent and delighted to be included in such a wonderful group of fellow actors.” Richard Gere, actor, Arbitrage (Best Actor – Drama) “This was a complicated and challenging role. I am also thrilled that Ben is getting the attention he so much deserves, as is Argo .” Mark Boal, writer/producer of Zero Dark Thirty (Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture – Drama) “We’re very grateful to the HFPA. It means so much to us that press representatives from around the world have reacted with such praise. It’s especially flattering as we’ve seen the film from the beginning as a global story, one that involved and impacted much of the world. Congratulations to Kathryn Bigelow and Jessica Chastain on nominations much deserved.” Tim Burton, producer/director of Frankenweenie (Best Animated Feature Film) “I’m thrilled to be recognized by the HFPA. Frankenweenie is a very personal project for me and the nomination goes as much to the animators who labored frame by frame to bring this film to life.” Mark Andrews, director of Brave (Best Animated Feature Film) “The adventure of Brave began in Scotland, where the mystery and majesty of the land fueled our imaginations. From haggis to highland games, creating this film truly changed our fate. On behalf of everyone at Pixar, we would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for the incredible honor of this nomination.” Graham Broadbent, producer, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (Best Picture – Comedy or Musical) “ Marigold seems to be turning in to the ‘little film that could’. We’ve had a wonderful ride — it’s been hugely enjoyed by audiences around the world, and that’s really enough for any filmmaker. We couldn’t be happier that the HFPA and SAG are remembering our film, all our cast, and particularly our two ‘international treasures’ Dames, Judi and Maggie. Ol Parker’s script and John Madden’s vision made an experience in the cinemas that was both emotional, transforming and very funny, and reminded audiences of an important universal message, ‘there’s more life to live’ — whatever your age. We are so pleased with our passionate partners at Fox Searchlight and Participant for the care they’ve given our film.” Chris Terrio, screenwriter, Argo (Best Screenplay) “Having a screenplay produced for the first time is a tremendous gift for any writer. To see the script directed by Ben, with the brilliant cast and crew he assembled, and then honored by the HFPA, feels like winning the screenwriter lottery.” Alexandre Desplat, composer, Argo (Best Original Score – Motion Picture) “It is an honor to be nominated again by the HFPA. Writing the score for Argo was a rare experience and I wish to thank Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Grant Heslov and Chay Carter for taking me onboard their flight to Iran. I want to share my nomination with all the brilliant musicians from all over the world who performed on my score.” RELATED ARTICLES: Golden Globes Unveil 70th Edition Nominees Globes Analysis: Hooper, Russell, De Niro Snubbed & Is Waltz Really A Supporting Actor? Matt Damon says Michael Douglas is a “wonderful” kisser. He also tells Playboy magazine that he and the veteran actor strategized their onscreen make-out sessions for Steven Soderbergh’ s Liberace movie for HBO, Behind The Candelabra , “like a football plan,” which scarily brings to mind John Madden and Al Michaels cavorting in Speedos while diagramming a play-action pass. The Promised Land actor tells interviewer Stephen Rebello that he usually says no to nude scenes, “but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace, Scott Thorson in Behind the Candelabra .” He took the plunge, he explains, because Soderbergh, who directed Damon on the Oceans films and The Informant! was behind the camera and the scenes in question were “tastefully done.” And, really, who could resist being held firmly in the masculine arms of the silver-maned actor who played Gordon Gekko ? Damon, who plays the much younger lover of the flamboyant piano showman — the Norman Jean Roy photograph above, which appeared in Vanity Fair, shows them in character — says the movie will make some people uncomfortable because “you’re witnessing something really intimate you would normally see with a man and a woman, but instead it’s two men”. He, on the other hand, found the dynamic “thrilling” even though some of the more intimate scenes weren’t “the most natural thing in the world to do, though. Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise longue and start kissing him. And throughout the script, it’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.” At least he didn’t make a pitcher/catcher reference. Damon goes on to say that he once asked the late Heath Ledger how he managed the scene with Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain where to two men hungrily suck face. Ledger’s response: “Well, mate, I drank half a case of beer in my trailer.” Damon add that when he laughed at that response, Ledger told him: “No, I’m serious. I needed to just go for it. If you can’t do that, you’re not making the movie.” The conversation leads Rebello to ask Damon what it was like “when you and Ben Affleck were constantly asked if you were gay, back when you were starting your careers” “I never denied those rumors because I was offended and didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay—as if being gay were some kind of fucking disease,” Damon responds. “It put me in a weird position in that sense. The whole thing was just gross.” [ Playboy ] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.
On June 25, 2012 I finally got to meet Justin after 3 years of trying. My friend (@xitsalicex) won studio passes from KIIS FM where we would get to watch Justin’s interview and get to meet him afterwards. I couldn’t even believe it, I started bawling when she told me the news. The day of the interview, I couldn’t process what was happening. We drove to the studio, which was an hour away, and waited in their lobby until they let us in. We were the first in the studio, so we got to sit right at the front, only about 3 feet away from where Justin would be. After a few minutes of waiting, Jojo (radio DJ) walks in and after that Justin walks in. I can’t even describe how perfect he was. His hair, his smile, his walk, his everything. Was he real? I started to get teary eyed. They both sat on the stools and began the interview. It was really nice because there were only a few of us in the room, so it was really intimate and private, and you could tell Justin was just being his goofy, loving, self. Through out the interview, Justin would casually look out in the audience and we made eye contact more than 20 times. This one time Jojo made a joke and I was the only one who laughed so Justin looked at me and gave me a smile. I nearly died. Not to mention the fact he randomly started singing during the interview. He sang “Climax” and I just about had a heart attack. He also sang parts of DIYA and Catching Feelings a capella, and I died 20x more. When we finally get to meet him, Alice and I got up and he reached his arms out to wrap around us, me on the left & Alice on the right. I gave him a smile and he winked at me, and I could barely move. Before the picture, I told him that I love him and he said, “I love you too!” Alice told him that he’s perfect and he said back in the most beautiful voice, “No, you’re perfect,” and I just about died. I made an awkward squealing sound and he laughed at me. After the picture, Alice gave him the note I wrote him and told him to “Stay Swaggie” and I gave him the thumbs up to which he laughed at, again. After that we walked out of the studio into the lobby and I started bawling the entire time until we got home. I still can’t believe I even got to see him, and hear him sing. I just want to say a HUGE HUGE HUGE thank you to @xitsalicex @1027KIISFM and @JojoWright for making this happen. #NEVERSAYNEVER because dreams really do come true. -@dearnicolex Original post: On June 25, 2012 I finally got to meet Justin after 3 years of…
‘I really want my birthday to be all about helping others,’ teen star shared on Charity: Water’s website. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Mazur/KCA2010/WireImage Ever wonder what you might get Justin Bieber for his 17th birthday ? Well, the pop star has the answer. In honor of his big day, he’s working with the nonprofit Charity: Water , requesting that his fans donate money to the cause that brings clean water to developing nations. “I have had an incredible year and it is all due to the fans helping me live my dream. I’m turning 17 years old on Tuesday and have so much to be grateful for!” Bieber wrote on the charity’s website . “So this year, I really want my birthday to be all about helping others. Instead of asking for gifts, I’m asking friends, family and fans to consider donating $17 for my 17th birthday to help make a change,” he continued. “One hundred percent of all donations go directly to building clean water projects in developing countries with Charity: Water, and we’ll be able to see photos and GPS of the projects we helped build!” The teen star then gave his fans some facts about they should get involved. “Together, we’ve made a big difference for many causes. Did you know that about 4,500 kids die each day from waterborne disease?” he shared. “By building clean water projects for villages that need them, we can prevent this! I want to make my birthday matter this year — let’s make it so more kids can grow up to have a 17th birthday like me. Join me to make a change. “I’m really so grateful for my family, friends and fans — and I believe we can do something big to help bring clean water to people in need,” he added. “Even if you don’t have $17 to give, I just ask you to go out in your community and try and make a positive difference. Even the smallest act of kindness can go a long way. Thanks and God Bless! #makeachange.” As it turns out, his call has already been answered by his fans. Charity: Water tweeted , ” Thanks to all you Beliebers, we hit $7 million raised on mycharity: water today! #makeachange.” Related Photos Justin Bieber Turns 17! What’s In Store For Him This Year? Event planners imagine what kind of party they’d throw the superstar. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images Justin Bieber is about to reach another milestone in his life: On Tuesday (February 29), the teen star turns 17. Already, he’s had hit albums and singles, a world tour and a successful concert documentary, so he definitely has a reason to celebrate. As he gears up for the fun, MTV News asked some party planners to weigh in on what kind of bash they would throw for the pop superstar. “I think, knowing that he’s such a fan of purple, I would create a purple Willy Wonka fantasy party,” said Bruce Starr, who works at BMF Media Group in New York. “I think we’d do it in L.A. on a studio lot and have the Oompa Loompas in purple. We’d recreate this extravagant fantasy world.” Starr said he’d have a female DJ on the decks, but also would have some musical surprises up his sleeve. “We’d have a surprise stage, and without telling him, work with his friends and have them do surprise sets for him,” he explained. “The party would have just friends and family, about 250 or 300 or 400 people tops — really intimate.” There would even be a fan element to the party. “I think we would do huge screens for all the people who couldn’t be there. We’d have surprise music videos from them, and throughout the candy land, there’d be screens with tweets from his fans,” he added. Taylor Choi, event consultant for Gansevoort Hotel Group, explained that she’d have the perfect Big Apple hot spot for the party. “For him, I would do something more fun and exciting,” she mused. “I would do more like bowling or video games, some sort of 3-D type party with more technology-type stuff for him.” So, what types of social media would that include? “A social-media kiosk where people can take photos,” she explained. “I would do karaoke and do something more fun and interactive. I would have a fun DJ and a fun live performance because a performance would be fun.” As for the venue, Choi said: “If he was in New York, I would throw it in the Gansevoort Park Avenue where we could do a 3-D installation. We can do a performance over the pool. We would deck it out for him with three floors. I’d serve cupcakes, hot dogs, burgers. “I would have like 200 of his closest friends,” she added. “I would definitely do 3-D stuff. He’d have fun with a small group of friends: private, intimate, nothing too crazy. Have his friends perform a song for him.” While it seems these planners would throw elaborate bashes for the star, Bieber recently revealed that he’s hoping for a low-key affair. “I only have, like, four days, so I’m just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] — so just going to mentally prepare and just relax,” Bieber explained. “No birthday bash. … Hopefully my grandparents will be out here, and I’ll be able to spend time, a little bit, with them. My grandma makes the best cheesecake — cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday.” How do you think Justin Bieber should celebrate his 17th birthday? Tell us your ideas below! ‘I think they’re so relieved that the story is being told,’ actress says. By Kara Warner Kirsten Dunst Photo: MTV News When an actor takes on a role based on a real person or event, one of the best ways for them to get into the head of the person they’re playing is to meet with them or someone close to them. In the case of Kirsten Dunst’s preparation for the upcoming thriller “All Good Things” (which is based on real events), however, her in-person meeting with her character’s family was more difficult than enlightening: The woman she plays, Kathleen Durst, disappeared in 1982 and hasn’t been found. “I met Kathie Durst’s brother, and I guess what would have been her niece,” Dunst told MTV News recently during a press day for “All Good Things.” “We went over to their house. It was really nice, but it was difficult, because I’m playing someone who was so dear to them that went missing. I just listened, basically,” she explained. “I think that, for them, it’s still difficult to talk about. I’m not going to probe with questions. That’s a really intimate environment, and I was invited to their home,” Dunst continued. She went on to say that what stayed with her long after the meeting was the family’s continued love for Kathie. Dunst also came away with a sense of sympathy for the woman, who fell in love with a charming, yet troubled man from a very powerful family. “I can see how when someone falls in love with someone who can take you away financially, is very wealthy, sometimes you lose touch with your family and what’s really going on,” she said. Regarding how the family is dealing with a big-screen adaptation of their loved one’s tragic tale, Dunst said she believes they feel a sense of relief. “It seems difficult for them to know that this man who did this to her, his family, no one helped or did anything, and [Kathie’s family] didn’t have the means to help find her,” she said. “So, I think they’re so relieved that the story is being told and brought to light.” And despite the ominous, slightly creepy tone of the film — due in large part to Ryan Gosling’s chilling portrayal as Kathie’s scarred, bottled-up husband — Dunst said the discomfort is worth it. “I think that the performances are really strong, and I think that because it’s a true story and it’s so shocking. It’s just unbelievable and frightening, but also you get this love story,” she explained. “A lot of things are happening in this film, and it’s still an unsolved mystery, and I think that always makes everything so much more believable.” “All Good Things” opens in New York on Friday, and Los Angeles and additional cities December 10.
