‘LHHMIAS2’ Recap: Trina Mediates A Peace Talk Between Joy And Shay

See the article here:

Source: Gilbert Carrasquillo / Getty We start tonight’s episode of Love and Hip-Hop Miami at Bobby Lytes’ video shoot for, “Bang Bang,” and Trina is there to support her cousin. This is really actually set up for Trina to discuss how she’s building her label, Rockstarr Music Group. Bobby Lytes wants to be down but Trina is still hesitant because she feels like working with family can bring unnecessary drama, so she’s cautiously considering Bobby. Veronica Vega is back. She has been working with Polow Da Don and here they have an urgent meeting in Atlanta. This meeting isn’t a good one. He tells her that he put up his house to finance her career and has spent over a million but the return hasn’t been worth it thus far. He’s tired of her going viral for all the wrong reasons and tells her it’s time to show and prove with the music, not beef and not slanging the n-word around like it’s going out of style. Veronica says she’s going to step it up, but you already know what happens in situations like this—she takes all her pain to her family (her grandma and sister) and explains what’s going on. Then she makes a teary plea about how she can’t fail because she has the burden of taking care of them on her shoulders. You know this is an attempt to humanize her since people think she’s a bully based on last season. Anyway, her relatives give her words of encouragement, yatta, yatta. We’ll see what she does now that she knows she has to do better. Gunplay meets up with Keyara to try to make amends. He brings her a kitten as a gift because she likes cats. And um… Anyway, the feline is cute and all but Keyara is still mad at him even after getting the gift, and she plays hardball. He mentions that he’s going to New York to do some press and wants her to come with him for a change of atmosphere and so they can talk about how they can move forward. Keyara neither says yes or no and says she just needs a minute to think about things but already gives him conditions under which she would go (like them not sleeping in the same bed, for example). This is how shocked we’ll be if she turns him down. Remember when Trina got Shay together at the Love and Hip-Hop Miami reunion last season? That situation stemmed from Shay’s beef with Trina’s cousin, Joy (over Pleasure P). Anyway, they still had tension from that situation so Shay decided to reach out to Trina to try to square away their issues. Shay actually comes into the situation turned down (even she knows that beefing with Trina ain’t the move), and explains her side of why she’s upset. Shay basically said she was upset because Pleasure P was shady about Joy throughout their relationship. She would always ask to meet Joy since that was supposed to be his bestie, but Pleasure P would hide her and generally make excuses. Trina brings up a great point, which is that Pleasure P is the one Shay really needs to be mad at and of course, she wants Shay and Joy to have a peace talk. Let’s cut to that moment… The episode winds down with Trina mediating Joy and Shay as the latter two talk aggressively to each other. To be fair, Shay came out the gate aggress and Joy just reacted. However, Trina is a good mediator and does a good job of reeling both women in and conveying both sides. In the end, Trina gets them to calm down and explains that they both need to grow up and move on. They seem cool for now, but will they drop the beef? We don’t quite know just yet. Danielle Lloyd’s Vegas Bikini Birthday of the DAy

Her name is Danielle Lloyd…she’s some useless Glamour model from the UK who I assume married some rich soccer player, cuz soccer players love these celebrated low level women, who look like strippers to me…and who are strippers in their own right, they just managed to fool the system and get labeled as glamour models instead of working lap dances for 10 dollars a song, even though they’d make more stripping, but the chance of bagging a closet case overpaid soccer player would have been slim to none, cuz these girls, at least in the UK are some kind of status that makes no sense to me…but that happens none the less…probably because in their trashiness, they are hot…like at Danielle Lloyd’s 45th birthday in Vegas this past weekend…not that she’s 45, her face just makes it look like she is… Useless people. Is ABC Mulling Star Wars TV Series?

We’re all waiting with baited (and force-assisted) breath until 2015 to see if the cinematic return to the Star Wars galaxy will make the taste of midi-chlorians go away, but could it be that we might first see our first post- George Lucas lightsabers on the smallscreen? Comments from ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee indicate that yes, maybe, possibly, this may be the case. You might remember a few years back when Lucasfilm kept talking up a live action Star Wars series? That show, which would have been spearheaded by former Lucasfilm honcho Rick McCallum, would have been set during the 19 year period between the end of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope . Alas, though reportedly 50 episodic scripts were created for the series, the series proved too expensive to produce, and Lucasfilm’s ownership meant too few profits for any network that might choose to fund it. The series was, eventually, quietly killed off. But speaking to Entertainment Weekly , Lee confirmed that with Disney (which owns ABC) now having secured control of the Star Wars franchise, ABC is contemplating resurrecting the concept. “We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet,” Lee told EW, but he stressed nothing is currently under development. “We haven’t even sat down with them. We’re going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren’t able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.” If ABC goes forward with a Star Wars TV show, it could be the beginning of a serious cross-branding block of programming, along with Joss Whedon’s planned S.H.I.E.L.D. series. It also might mine territory not previously covered in filmed Star Wars fiction. As EW notes, aspects of the original, aborted series were apparently recycled for the upcoming ‘adult’ themed game Star Wars 1313 , including the focus on the seedier side of life in a galaxy far, far away. It also bore a striking resemblance to the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica , in that it would have been a family crime drama of sorts. (Notably, BSG reboot maestro Ron D. Moore was once attached to the series.) Obviously, we can’t possibly pretend to know what the so-far not developed show would even look like; chances are Disney is simply keeping their options open. But should they go for it, I personally hope they don’t resurrect the concept McCallum had originally planned. I’m personally burnt out on prequels, not just because George Lucas made such a mess of it, but because generally speaking the backstory is always less interesting than the stuff that it informs. We already know about everything we need to about life before Luke, Leia and Han saved the galaxy from the evil empire. I’d rather see the wishes of the fans more deliberately pandered to, and set any potential show in the aftermath of the successful rebellion. Showing how citizens from across the galaxy pick up the pieces as the Republic struggles to rebuild would not only allow for a vast diversity of stories, it would also have the benefit of being surprising. We wouldn’t lose the ability to get attached to any character because their fates are largely sealed by what we know from the current trilogy. Better still, from a business perspective, it’d be a great way to build interest in episodes 7, 8 and 9. Events of the TV show could easily provide backstory for those films without treading on any of the same ground. It would also be as ambitious as the Marvel movie universe’s carefully constructed, shared continuity, and from a nerd’s perspective, that sounds like the best thing ever, even if I’m not yet ready to forgive Star Wars for “NOOOOOOOOOO!” What about you, readers? Let us know what you’d like to see in a hypothetical Star Wars show in comments. Chernobyl Diaries Takes Heat From Survivors

“It is terrible that such a tragic event as Chernobyl is being sensationalized in a Hollywood horror film. Thousands of people have died and over 400,000 people were evacuated from their homes. Today over 5 million people still live on contaminated land. The horror is not mutants running around, the real horror is the effect that Chernobyl continues to have on the lives of millions who have been devastated physically, emotionally and economically. If you feel compelled to go see this movie, take the adrenalin you get from the horror to go do something good and make a difference in the lives of those still living with Chernobyl every day.” [ TMZ ]

Chaz Ebert Writes to Absent Roger from Cannes

It seems Roger Ebert was unable to make the trek to Cannes , but his wife (and Ebert Co. VP) Chaz sends a report from the South of France with a fantastic breakdown of the fest’s offerings — and sweet words for Rog back home: “Today there may not be starlets jumping nude in the ocean, but we are still being given stories of young love and old love and passion and feelings and ideas that make life worth living. Thank you for introducing me to this world. Now I just want you to hurry back to it.” [ Chicago Sun-Times ]

Cannes: Mid-Way, Haneke’s Amour Charges Ahead With Palme d’Or Momentum

As Cannes hits the half-way mark Monday night with the world premiere of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami’s Like Someone in Love , momentum for the coveted top prize, the Palme d’Or, appears — for now — to be with German-born director Michael Haneke’s Amour ( Love ). Not to say there are not some strong fellow contenders, and the whims of any jury member may run counter, near or parallel to general opinion. But here are some of Palme d’Or’s other big suitors at the mid-way point. Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom received mostly positive accolades by attendees, with one journalist commenting at the press conference on the opening day that “it was a surprisingly good opening film.” Opening titles at Cannes (or other festivals for that matter) are often not the strongest of any lineup, or even in the top tier, though they usually offer up some kind of flash in the form of stars. Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone came out of the gate strong. Its early morning press screening concluded at the Lumière with rounds of applause and chatter among some attendees was that it’s the director’s best film — and his most accessible. But the film has its detractors, though any eventual Palme d’Or winner isn’t without its critics. Also among the big Official Selection competitors this year, Reality by Italian director Matteo Garrone passed muster. Garrone was hailed back in 2008 for the Naples mob feature Gomorrah , receiving the Cannes Grand Prix. His latest has not generated the same emotional responses of that film, but it has achieved sustained reaction. John Hillcoat’s Prohibition-set Lawless has picked up boosters and detractors since its debut Saturday. Some fest-goers have praised the director’s use of violence — it’s raw and quick. One of the many trade print editions here in Cannes declared that Danish director Thomas Vinterberg “is back” with his latest film, Jagten ( The Hunt ). He was a toast of Cannes back in 1998 for The Celebration , part of the Danish Dogme 95 movement he spearheaded along with fellow Dane filmmaker, Lars von Trier. Von Trier has gone on to attend many a Cannes, occasionally putting his foot in his mouth publicly (he awkwardly joked that he ” understood Hitler ” last year) but he consistently makes headlines worldwide. Finally, this may be a bit of a long-shot, but hey, Cannes can be unpredictable. In 2010 Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul smashed through the establishment and grabbed the Palme d’Or for his film about, well… Uncle Boonmee recalling his past lives. So perhaps a bit of a wild card might be Ulrich Seidl’s Paradies: Liebe ( Paradise: Love ). The premise goes something like this: Middle-agish European women travel to Africa seeking the affections of African boys. The movie is essentially about Euro-cougars who head down to Africa to get it on with young African men who earn a living satisfying their yearnings. The promo-material journalists received in their mailboxes at the Palais des Festivals is pretty straightforward: Plumpish naked women; lean, naked African 20-somethings… you get the picture. Check out the clip below of Paradies and some of the other competition films that have screened so far, with accompanying official Cannes Film Festival descriptions: Moonrise Kingdom : Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in every which way. Amour Georges and Anne are in their eighties. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has an attack. The couple’s bond of love is severely tested. Rust and Bone ( De Rouilles et D’Os ) Ali suddenly finds himself in charge of Sam, his 5-year-old son that he barely knows. Penniless and without friends, he leaves the north of France to seek shelter at his sister’s in Antibes. Even though she and her husband do not have much money, they make a room for them in their garage and take care of Sam. Ali finds work as a bouncer at a local nightclub. After diffusing a fight one evening, he meets Stephanie, a beautiful, self-confident woman. He takes her home and leaves her his number. But she is a princess and he is a poor fellow. Stephanie is a killer whale trainer at the local Marineland. After a terrible accident one day, Ali gets an unexpected phone call from Stephanie. When he sees her again she is crammed into a wheelchair. She has lost both her legs and her dreams. Ali will share genuine moments with her, without pity, and help her to live again… Lawless Lawless is the true story of the infamous Bondurant brothers, bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel The Wettest County In The World , the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave. Jagten ( The Hunt ) Following a tough divorce, 40-year-old Lucas has a new girlfriend, a new job and is in the process of reestablishing his relationship with his teenage son, Marcus. But things go awry. Not a lot. Just a passing remark. A random lie. And as the snow falls and the Christmas lights are lit, the lie spreads like an invisible virus. The shock and mistrust gets out of hand, and the small community suddenly finds itself in a collective state of hysteria, while Lucas fights a lonely fight for his life and dignity. (In Danish) Reality Luciano is a Neapolitan fishmonger who supplements his modest income by pulling off little scams with his wife Maria. A likeable, entertaining guy, Luciano never misses an opportunity to perform for his customers and countless relatives. One day his family urge him to try out for Big Brother . In chasing this dream his perception of reality begins to change. (In Italian) Read more of Movieline’s coverage from Cannes.

Sacha Baron Cohen Gives Dictator Interview… as Sacha Baron Cohen

After a whirlwind press tour spent stymieing journalists in character as his General Aladeen of the Republic of Wadiya, Dictator comedian Sacha Baron Cohen sat with the BBC for a rare straight interview — no costume, no shenanigans , no spilling the ashes of late despots on unsuspecting talking heads. The result: An actually coherent, fascinating filmed chat with Cohen about toeing the line of sensitivity with his despotism comedy, why he almost never gives interviews as himself, and how he took inspiration from the “ludicrous” power-hungry dictators of the world. Cohen (who’s rather handsome when not in character!) spoke with BBC reporter Will Gompertz in Cannes, citing a few of his favorite dictators, so to speak: “I had always found Colonel Gaddafi hilarious, and I wanted to do a character that was inspired by him. I had all these other ludicrous characters like Türkmenbaşy, who was the president and dictator of Turkmenistan, who renamed the day Thursday and the word for bread after his mother. When the doctor told him to give up smoking, he banned smoking from the whole country because he didn’t want to be reminded of cigarettes. And then you had someone like Kim Jong-il who claimed to have hit nine holes in one in his first ever game of golf. And obviously Colonel Gaddafi who had these 30 virgin guards, dressed unintentionally like a 60-year-old woman and would often break wind when being interviewed for the BBC…” To read Movieline’s review of The Dictator , head here .
