Let Me In and the Hows and Whys of the Remake

When it was announced a few years back that a U.S. remake of the Swedish preteen-vampire film (and indie hit) Let the Right One In was in the works, fans of the original let out a collective groan. Leave it to stupid Americans to refuse to read subtitles! The remake — to be made by Matt Reeves, director of the 2008 Cloverfield, as well as several episodes of Felicity — would certainly trample on the delicacy of this small Swedish gem.

VIDEO: Can Let Me In Have it Both Ways With Fanboys and Film Snobs Alike?

Overture has released another clip for Let Me In , the remake of the artful Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In . Here, it looks like they’re trying to win over fans of the original (who are understandably skeptical), while a previously released clip catered to the larger group of Americans who care more about vampire action than foreign films. But can Overture really please everyone?

Warehouse 13’s Relic Roundup: Firefly Alumni Unearthed!

Last week’s Warehouse 13 premiere saw Pete, Myka and Co. tie up the MacPherson thread of season one and introduce the female H.G. Wells as season two’s antagonist. So naturally, such a development would be followed up with a fairly inconsequential, one-off episode, the only redeeming value of which being two guest stars with ample nerd cred: Firefly’s Jewel Staite and Sean Maher. (Simon and Kaylee were hardly my favorite characters, but dammit if I couldn’t stop grinning during this episode. A little fan service now and then never hurts.) But which of this week’s relics would you venture into M.C. Escher’s vault for?

Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson Added to Friends With Benefits

Forget all those other projects going under the title Friends with Benefits — the NBC sitcom and the Ashton Kutcher film that was previously known as F***buddies — this is the one you’ll want to keep an eye on. Already sporting the inspired tandem of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, the film has added former Zombieland co-stars Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone to the cast, joining Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, Jenna Elfman and Andy Samberg. Great and good, but Harrelson can talk pal Bill Murray into making a cameo appearance as Kunis’ stepdad, then they’d be onto something. [ The Wrap ]

The Let Me In Trailer: Chloe Moretz Sucks… Blood

Fans of the original Let the Right One In — of which there are many around the Internet — were justifiably upset when they heard that Tomas Alfredson’s beloved and moody adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel was being remade for American audiences with Matt Reeves (a.k.a. the guy who did Cloverfield ) as the director. But the international trailer for Let Me In — America likes short titles! — has arrived and it confirms two things: Reeves was very, very faithful to Alfredson’s original, and Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz does, in fact, kick ass.
