What Did Michael Madsen Do To Deserve Piranhaconda?

Ponder that burning question as you watch the trailer for SyFy Channel’s forthcoming creature feature Piranhaconda , about — you guessed it — a piranha-anaconda hybrid monster people-eater hunting down nubile hotties, a film crew, a gang of mercenaries and Michael Madsen as a scientist. The tagline: “Part Snake! Part Fish! All Killer!” Everybody wins! No one moreso than Madsen, who appears to have a writing credit on the creature feature as well, according to the trailer’s credits. Let the awful CG and worse acting roll via the Piranhaconda trailer: Even after enjoying a career resurgence following Sin City and the Kill Bill movies, Madsen’s resorted to more and more low budget indie work; it’s therefore not terribly shocking to see him pop up in a movie like this, but still . And yet: Hardcore exploitation fans may find added reason to check out the telefilm on account of director Jim Wynorski ( Chopping Mall ), who’s behind the camera for producer Roger Corman. A release/airdate has yet to be set. [ TwitchFilm ]

James Van Der Beek to Play James Van Der Beek on ABC Pilot

’90s television stars: They’re all about the meta! Following in the footsteps of Neil Patrick Harris (who played “Neil Patrick Harris” in the Harold and Kumar franchise) and Matt LeBlanc (who is currently playing “Matt LeBlanc” on the Showtime series Episodes ), James Van Der Beek will play “himself” in the ABC pilot Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23 . (Expect that hilarious title to change.) The show is about a June, Midwestern girl who moves to New York to live with Chloe, a wild party girl. Van Der Beek will play Chloe’s best friend, and likely make James Van Der Meme-like jokes about his Dawson’s Creek past. [ TVL ine ]

VIDEO: Roger Corman Watches Bikini-Clad Beauty Get Eaten in Sharktopus Cameo

There was a time when it was thought that Roger Corman would actually direct Sharktopus , the SyFy channel shlocktastic midnight movie about a government engineered shark/octopus hybrid that debuted last fall. He didn’t, of course — but that doesn’t mean the indie pioneer wasn’t allowed to join in the fun. Corman appeared in the film as a “beach bum” who witnesses the terrifying(ly poor special effects of) sharktopus, and ahead you can watch him discuss how the amusing cameo came into being.

Mark Romanek on Never Let Me Go and Who’d Pull Him Out of Music-Video Retirement

It took a while (and a studio debacle over The Wolfman ), but Mark Romanek finally has a second feature under his belt. And it’s not wanting for prestige: Opening today in limited release, Never Let Me Go features Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield as a trio of school friends turned romantic rivals turned… well, it’s complicated. And, as Romanek sympathized, worth keeping on the downlow for folks unfamiliar with Kazuo Ishiguro’s celebrated, genre-bending source novel. The director spoke further with Movieline about the variety of his young cast, the perils of marketing, and the pop star who might have the sway to draw him back to the music-video form that made him legendary.

Warehouse 13’s Allison Scagliotti on Finale Teasers, Mad Men Influences and Playing SyFy’s Coolest Nerd

Claudia Donovan is Warehouse 13 ‘s techie-type character, the one who spends long hours cataloging stuff like Man Ray’s soul-sucking camera and P.T. Barnum’s top — and then fortuitously saves everyone’s life with a quick hack to her cell phone and a glancing pop-culture reference to boot. She’s just so likable! So don’t be surprised when her real-life counterpart, Allison Scagliotti, wins you over with some big spoilers for the Warehouse season finale and a name drop of her favorite Mad Men character.

Warehouse 13’s Relic Roundup: It’s a Backstory Bonanza!

It was one infodump after another on last night’s Warehouse 13, as Artie, H.G. Wells and Todd from the hardware store fleshed out their backstories. Why was Artie charged with treason? Why was H.G. Wells bronzed? And why does Todd always mope around like a kicked puppy with a speech impediment? (Mumbler!) Oh, there were answers — via a few emotionally charged monologues mingled with pleas for forgiveness. And there was also a surprising number of artifacts as torture devices, which were put to the test on our heroes. More painful than having to sit through their long, revelatory speeches? Let’s get to the roundup!

Warehouse 13’s Relic Roundup: The Agents Explore the Logistics of Body Swapping

On last night’s Warehouse 13, Pete and Myka switched bodies while Claudia and Artie derailed the efforts of a Robin Hood-like insurance wangler — two threads that, though sneakily juxtaposed, had absolutely nothing to do with each other. And! On the heels of the Warehouse 13/Eureka crossover — just when you thought SyFy had exhausted all its options for interprogram promotions — WWE’ s Cody Rhodes guest starred. Truly, it was an odd night. And not just for the gender-flipped Pete and Myka. Read on for the artifact roundup for Merge with Caution!

Warehouse 13’s Relic Roundup: 3D Goes Too Far!

Ah, Warehouse 13. After the fairly uninspired density-altering gym sorts of last week, let us hope this week’s adventure lends itself to a little more excitement — a little more of that heavy-handed history tweaking you do so well. So where will it be? To what far off place will your heroes go in search of this week’s fugitive artifact? What imponderable circumstances will– what? They’re not going anywhere new this week? They’re just staying in Univille and developing what look to be short-lived romances? Well, that’s not very fun, now is it? Regardless! Read on for a breakdown of the artifacts unearthed in Beyond Our Control.
