NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Says Players Must Stand For The National Anthem

The memo, distributed by Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, suggested all NBA teams “demonstrate your commitment to the NBA’s core values of equality, diversity, inclusion and serve as a unifying force in the community.” Instead of kneeling, Silver suggests, a proper way for teams to demonstrate would be featuring a pre-game video of players or community leaders speaking about important issues and snapshots of community events. “Many of our players have spoken out already about their plan to stand for the anthem,” Silver said in a statement. “And I think they understand how divisive an issue it is in our society right now.” Silver did not give any details on what would happen if a player were to kneel for the National Anthem, saying “If that were to happen, we’ll deal with it when it happens.” SOURCE: ESPN | IMAGE CREDIT: Getty

Nicki Minaj Talks Hottest MCs At NBA All-Star Game

After performing ‘Super Bass,’ MC walked offstage and celebrated her Hottest MCs placement with MTV News. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj performs at the 2012 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday Photo: Ronald Martinez/ Getty Images ORLANDO, Florida — All the stars are out for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, but before basketball’s biggest names took the court at Orlando’s Amway Center, Ms. Nicki Minaj set the party off right. The reigning queen of rap rocked her smash single “Super Bass” in the jam-packed b-ball arena. Wearing a skintight white jumpsuit and a blond and pink hairdo, the Young Money MC spit her bars and hit her dance steps in front of the thousands of fans in Amway and the millions watching at home. After the short set, Nicki strutted back to her dressing room and spotted MTV News on the way. The topic of conversation? MTVs Hottest MCs in the Game VII , of course. Nicki placed #4 on the list and proceeded to talk her ish as a true MC should. “Hottest MCs #4, let’s get it,” she boasted with a Queens swagger. “That’s big, though. I deserve it. I put in work.” On Thursday night Nicki released her new single “Roman Reloaded” with Lil Wayne, and on the new single from her upcoming sophomore album she made sure to brag and boast. Only Rick Ross, Drake and Kanye West placed higher, giving Minaj the highest Hottest ranking for a female MC in the history of the debate. Nicki was initially slotted at #5 with Young Money boss Wayne clocking in at #4, but several members of the MTV Hottest Brain Trust felt strongly enough about Nicki’s accomplishments mixed with her lyrical impact and ability to more than hold her own when playing with the boys warranted a second look at her ranking. Hottest MCs moderator Sway Calloway called for a vote and in the end, six of the nine experts elected to move Nicki up to the #4 spot, sending Weezy down to #5. Hanson Let Fans Pick Set List For 2011 Musical Ride Tour

Fans will pick which album band will play all the way through during tour stops, beginning on September 4. By Jocelyn Vena Hanson Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images Hanson have a plan to hit the road this fall, but they don’t yet know what they’ll play. That’s because they’re letting fans vote to select which of their albums they’ll perform on each night of the 2011 Musical Ride Tour. The tour, which kicks off in September, follows the formula the guys tried out during their 5of5 concert series in New York and London, where they would set up shop at a venue for five nights in a row and play an album all the way through each night. “Much like the 5of5 concert series both in New York and London, which blew us away, this whole tour is about looking back in order to go forward,” Taylor Hanson explained in a statement. The band’s debut album, Middle of Nowhere, launched the guys to pop superstardom back in 1997 thanks to the hit track “MMMBop.” Since then, they have consistently released albums, including 2010’s Shout It Out, which spawned the viral hit “Thinking ‘Bout Something,” as well as the follow-up single, “Give a Little.” Earlier this year, Hanson put their live performance skills to the test when they put on a 12-hour, live-streamed concert at South By Southwest to raise money for earthquake victims in Japan. After previously announced shows in Los Angeles and Saskatchewan, Canada, the band will kick off the 40-city U.S. tour on September 4 in Seattle. It all wraps up on November 1 in Orlando. All dates are available on , and tickets go on sale this Friday. “This tour is a unique way of saying thank you to the many fans that have followed the band for years, who will, for the first time, get a chance to help shape the show they see each night,” Zac Hanson added of the trek. Recently, the guys appeared in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” video as the house band at the raging house party thrown by Rebecca Black. “We work for Twizzlers and good times,” Taylor told MTV News about their fee for appearing in the video. “You’d have to have a lot of spandex, a huge tree covered in toilet paper, Kenny G — apparently that’s what it takes to get us to a house party.” Related Artists Hanson

Christina Aguilera Talks Press Scrutiny, ‘The Voice’ Gig

‘We’re only able to be seen through the microscope of the media,’ the singer tells UsMagazine.com regarding her recent tabloid coverage. By Jocelyn Vena Christina Aguilera Photo: Ronald Martinez/ Getty Images While the year started off a little shaky for Christina Aguilera, a new gig as one of the judges on NBC’s upcoming TV talent competition “The Voice” may prove to be the career turnaround that the pop singer is looking for. And in a new interview, she admits that it’s not always easy having every move you make scrutinized by the public. “We’re only able to be seen through the microscope of the media and what people gossip about,” she tells UsMagazine.com “You take the good with the bad. It’s by telling our stories, sharing our experiences and really giving a firsthand look at us as human beings [that shows] who we really are apart from what we seem to be.” Aguilera, known for her own vocal pyrotechnics, admits that she doesn’t want potential contestants to come to the show hoping they can win by mimicking her signature style. “I am ready to share it all so I’m really excited,” she said. “I hope we can find the next biggest thing. But I’m not looking for vocal acrobatics. I really sincerely want to be moved by raw talent.” Aguilera will be joined on the “Voice” panel by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, “F— You” singer Cee Lo Green and country star Blake Shelton. She recently explained during a press event promoting the program that she and her fellow judges hope to bring positive reinforcement and not be too cruel to those trying out for the show, which premieres on April 26. “This isn’t about tearing people down. I want to bring these people up,” Aguilera maintained. “‘The Voice’ really does stand for what it says. Instinctually, you can judge people based on the way they look. I love the fact we get to sit here with our backs turned away from these people and completely use just one sense to hear these voices. I’m not looking for vocal acrobatics, who has biggest range [of] high and low. I’m looking forward to getting moved.” Are you excited to see Christina on “The Voice”? Tell us in the comments.
