Teacher Wears Same Outfit in 40 Consecutive Yearbook Photos

The years come and go, but one Texas teacher’s vintage ’70s outfit lived on in every single yearbook photo he posed for during his 40-year tenure. Dale Irby, 63, retired this year as an elementary school teacher, capping off a terrific career in education and an amazing four-decade fashion statement. It started off purely by accident, he says. “I was so embarrassed when I got the pictures back that second year and realized that I had worn the very same thing as the first year,” Irby recalled. But Irby’s wife thought it was funny, and urged him to keep going in the third year, and then the fourth. Once five came around, he figured: “Why stop?” Forty years later, the outfit has outlasted the store and the physical mall where he bought it, but the shirt still fits, says Irby , “if I suck it in a little.”

Congratulations! T.I. “The Kang” Has A New TV Acting Gig Alongside Golden Globe Winner Kelsey Grammer

Go ‘head Clifford! Atlanta rap star and actor T.I. has joined the cast of “Boss” on pay cable network Starz starring Kelsey Grammer as the mayor of Chicago hiding the fact he has a degenerative neurological disease. Production for season two begins in Chicago Monday. His part will be in a season-long arc as a former gangbanger with an eye on a political career. According to the story in Deadline.com, “he is the conduit between a local Alderman and the only group powerful enough to function as a grassroots organization in the projects – gangs.” Starz, like other paid cable networks that rely on subscriptions rather than advertising, doesn’t necessarily focus on overnight ratings but more about pleasing its subscribers. “Boss” was quickly renewed last fall despite modest numbers. (It opened at 659,000 viewers, then fell to 319,000 viewers week two. With repeated viewing, the debut drew about 3 million viewers over its first three days.) Grammer won a Golden Globe earlier this year for his role on ‘Boss.” T.I. has acted in three major films: “ATL,” “American Gangster” and most recently 2010’s “Takers.” He is currently on a reality show, “T.I. and Tiny,” on VH1, which averages about 2.5 million viewers a week. Though the network has not said anything about a renewal, if T.I. is willing to move forward, I can’t imagine VH1 would say no for a second season. California Says Yes To Molten Solar

The California Energy Commission has approved a permit for SolarReserve to build a 150-megawatt solar plant that uses molten salt to store energy, the company announced Wednesday. —The Santa Monica, Calif.-based start-up says its Rice Solar Energy Project will be located 30 miles from Blythe, Calif., and when running at full capacity will supply enough energy to power the equivalent of 68,000 homes annually. The project also has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). ==================== California Says Yes To Molten Solar December 16, 2010 9:44 AM PST by Candace Lombardi http://news.cnet.com/8301-11128_3-20025870-54.html?part=rss&tag=feed&sub… —continued—- The molten salt system will enable the solar farm to store and release solar energy so that it can continue to generate electricity for up to eight hours after sunset, according to SolarReserve. Molten salt solar plants, which have been built in Spain by SolarReserve with additional molten solar projects underway in Nevada and Sicily, work by using molten salt to retain and release heat energy. In the case of a molten salt solar plant, heliostats–giant rotating mirrors controlled by computers to best track and reflect sun onto a specific point–reflect sun rays onto a central tower, or a series of pipes, containing a molten salt mixture. The molten salt generally consists of sodium nitrates and potassium. The solar rays heat the liquefied salt to a temperature of up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The steam from the molten salt is then harnessed to power a generator that makes electricity. Afterward, the cooled molten salt is then piped back to the tower to be heated once again. In the case of the proposed Rice Solar Energy Project, the heliostats will be directed to a large central tower using a molten salt system developed by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne. The company received more than $10 million to develop more efficient molten-salt systems, as part of a Department of Energy (DOE) project sponsoring 13 companies with funds. However, this latest California board approval does not mean this project is full steam ahead. The Rice Solar Energy Project still needs to receive approvals from both the Bureau of Land Management and the Western Area Power Administration, according to SolarReserve. added by: twohawks
