The drama around Paula Deen continues today as reports say she has fired her legal team, led by the firm of Oliver Maner. Deen also fired her agent last week. Maner was defending her against a civil lawsuit filed by Lisa Jackson , a former manager of Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House that Deen co-owns. A source close to Deen says “she and her team decided the previous attorneys were out of their depth,” so she hired a replacement, Grace Speights. The Washington, D.C.-based partner in Morgan Lewis’s Labor and Employment practice brings “one of the top labor firms in the country,” says the source. Her new legal team also consists of Patricia Glaser, whom The Hollywood Reporter calls one of America’s top entertainment power lawyers this year. Deen is continuing to work with the PR firm The Rose Group and has also hired Judy Smith, the inspiration for the main character, Olivia Pope, on Scandal . In all, she hopes to rebound from her dramatic downfall, in which she lost a multitude of business deals, following her admission to using racial slurs . Deen made that revelation during a legal deposition in connection with Lisa Jackson’s civil suit, which she denies the basis for and wants thrown out.
Controversial college basketball standout Marshall Henderson has been suspended by the University of Mississippi for reasons not made public. Fox Sports hottie Erin Andrews promptly took a shot at the notorious hoops hothead on Twitter, and Henderson was none too pleased about it. There was no indication of how long the suspension will last or if Henderson, who would be a senior guard, will be allowed to play basketball next fall. While it’s not clear why he got suspended, Henderson was already considered one of the NCAA’s most abrasive players, so few were surprised. Erin Andrews certainly wasn’t, and the two traded barbs after the reporter re-tweeted a CBS report alleging that Henderson failed a drug test: USA Today recalls (via this great GIF) that Henderson executed an incendiary, mocking Gator Chomp during Ole Miss’ game against Florida this year. Andrews, a Florida graduate, was not a fan. Henderson has pledged to mock her a second time now … but it’s far from certain when he’ll get back on the basketball court in order to do so.
She’s not a musician or an author, but Bethenny Frankel will soon embark on a nationwide tour. The former Real Housewives of New York City cast member and Skinnygirl mogul has announced plans to promote her talk show via a visit of cities such as Houston, Los Angeles, Tampa Bay and New York. Charlie Sheen is serious about paying Brooke Mueller zero child support if at all possible, and is evoking the name of a longtime co-star to boost his case. The actor filed legal documents requesting the massive change in child support – $55,000 to $0 – because Brooke doesn’t even have custody of their boys. While she’s in and out of rehab, Bob and Max are living with Sheen’s other ex-wife, Denise Richards, who’s already getting support from him. In court papers, Charlie references Jon Cryer’s divorce , in which his ex-wife was arrested in ’09 for alleged child abuse and temporarily lost custody. Charlie claims Cryer requested his support payments be reduced from $10,000 per month to zero, and the court granted that request, setting a precedent. Sheen also reveals that he earns more than $740,000 a month (before taxes), more than enough to cover $90,000 a month in expenses on all his homes. Also, Charlie says he foots the bill for ALL the kids’ expenses – therapy, medical, schooling, and more – on top of that $55,000, and will continue to do so. His point? I take care of the kids anyway, and Brooke Mueller clearly isn’t using that $55,000 a month to do so, as she doesn’t care for them anyway. A judge has yet to rule.
