Kevin Spacey: Fired by Netflix!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. And did we mention…. WOW ?!? It wasn’t very long ago that Kevin Spacey was the face of Netflix. Signing the multiple-time Oscar winner to portray Frank Underwood on House of Cards signaled to Hollywood that the streaming service was serious about becoming a player in original content. But now Netflix has severed ties with Spacey, making a stunning (albeit understandable) announcement on Friday night. “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” a spokesperson for the company said, adding of production company Media Rights Capital: “We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.” Less than a week ago, Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of sexual misconduct. The Star Trek: Discovery star said Spacey forced himself on Rapp back in 1986, when Rapp was only 14 years old. Rapp kept the incident a secret for decades, but says he was inspired to make them public now after an endless array of alleged Harvey Weinstein victims shared their story of sexual abuse at the hands of the famous movie producer. Tweeted Rapp shortly after his accusations went viral: “I came forward with my story, standing on the shoulders of the many courageous women and men who have been speaking out… to shine a light and hopefully make a difference, as they have done for me.” In response to the allegations, Spacey acknowledged and apologized for his behavior. He also finally confirmed the rumor that he’s gay, prompting a horde of celebrities to slam Spacey for trying to distract and deflect from the charges against him by shifting the topic to his sexuality: See what we mean below: View Slideshow: Kevin Spacey: Celebrities React to Molestation Accusation Seriously, what does being gay have anything to do with sexual assault? It’s not any better if you admit you’re attracted to the gender of the person you’ve reportedly assaulted. The ramifications from this scandal simply snowballed from there: Netflix announced House of Cards would end after Season 6. It then suspended filming on Season 6. Spacey then said he was checking into treatment, although he didn’t specify for what reason. Then, many more House of Cards staff members a ccused Spacey of acting inappropriately , saying he created a toxic environment on the show’s set. It was this final bombshell that prompted Media Rights Capital to release the following statement: “While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of House of Cards, he has been suspended, effective immediately. “MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.” It’s unclear where House of Cards goes from here. There’s been chatter that it may kill off Spacey’s Frank Underwood and turn the drama over to Robin Wright’s Clare. This wouldn’t be SO far-fetched, considering Underwood resigned as President on the show to conclude last season and Clare was sworn in as his replacement. However, the series has already filmed two Season 6 episodes… with Spacey. We can’t say for certain what will happen with the series, but we can say we’re stunned by how quickly events have unfolded in this real-life drama. We’ll keep readers apprised as more news breaks.

The Amazing Race Season 25 Episode 1 Recap: Go Big or Go Home!

Friday evening’s premiere of The Amazing Race Season 25 Episode 1 showed us that the long-running reality competition still hasn’t lost much of a step. Kicking things off in Times Square, the Race is off and literally running! Watch The Amazing Race Season 25 Episode 1 Online Sure, Friday night TV is sort of a graveyard for reality shows, but still. Sure, it could have benefited from an extra half hour like CBS gave Survivor Season 29 Episode 1 for us to better get to know the cast, but still. Sure, Bethany Hamilton didn’t get enough screen time, but still. Okay, all complaining aside? It was a solid premiere for a still-solid show, and we briefly break down the contestants in order of how they finished below: 1. Misti & Jim, the dentists, don’t lack for confidence, but were also willing to help out others and proved to be the most competent. First place? Well earned. 2. Tim & Te Jay capitalized on Jim to complete Roadblock and complained a little too much for our liking, but second place is still a solid result. 3. Kym & Alli, urban bikers who talk almost as big a game as the wrestlers they edged out, act like they’re embracing the role of the “target” early on. 4. Robbie & Brooke, wrestlers who might think they’re more famous than they actually are, sure talk the part. Can they back it up with their performances? 5. Bethany & Adam make you want to ride Team Soul Surfer all the way to the end. They need to work out some kinks, but could be real contenders. 6. Maya & Amy, a couple of enthusiastic scientists who specialize in candy and ice cream, did little of note, but that’s a unique hook for a team at least! 7. Dennis & Isabelle weren’t particularly impressive, or noteworthy in any sense that you wanted to root for or against them. Tune in next week. 8. Shelley & Nici, a pair of flight attendants, struggled a bit but made up for it with determination. And provided some comic relief with their frustrations. 9. Whitney & Keith, the Survivor contestants of years past, were not impressive at the onset. They won’t outwit, outplay or outlast many at this rate. 10. Michael & Scott, a pair of Boston firefighters, likely only survived this week because one team was even worse. But that’s all it takes to move on … Farewell, Lisa and Michelle. You’ll be missed for your good looks, but you proved that some of us should just stay home and watch The Amazing Race online . The realtors from Miami vowed to use their good looks to get ahead in The Race, and while that likely works in their day jobs, it didn’t do much here. Not knowing where the sun rises and sets? Never a good sign. Also, karma bit them hard when they left – then dissed – the firemen at the dock. That’s just asking for it.

American Beauty Cast: Where Are They Now?

Last week marked the 15th anniversary of the release of American Beauty . The film would go on to gross over $350 million and win five Academy Awards including Best Picture. American Beauty Cast: Then and Now 1. Kevin Spacey Spacey won his second Oscar for American Beauty and remains one of the most esteemed actors in Hollywood. He currently stars in the Netflix series House of Cards. Beauty was widely considered to be among the best of the ’90s, but years since have seen a critical reappraisal of the the film, with the term “overrated” being tossed about a good deal.  Recently, even the film’s director Sam Mendes confessed that he considered Beauty to be “over-praised” when it first hit theaters in 1999. Even so, Beauty has retained an incredible level of cultish adoration and seems poised to be the sort of movie that will find an audience amongst disaffected teens and bored, middle-aged suburbanites for generations to come The film’s cast has experienced its own share of ups and downs, with some actors going on to A-list success, others fading into an obscurity, and at least one achieving a remarkable comeback. Wes Bentley’s role in The Hunger Games may not have been the most memorable part of the film, but to those who followed his career as he went from Beauty ‘s brooding neighbor to washed-up addict deemed unworthy even of tabloid coverage, his return to the big screen was nothing short of miraculous. While Bentley’s remarkable resurgence is impressive to say the least, the film’s greatest success story remains the career of Kevin Spacey. Spacey was already an Oscar winner when he took on the role of walking midlife crisis Lester Burnham (he’d take home his second statuette for Beauty ).  But even with his previous accolades, few could have predicted the sort of versatility and enduring popularity that Spacey would come to embody. These days, of course, Spacey is drawing raves for his role in the Netflix series House of Cards . It’s a role that would be hard to imagine him in if you knew Spacey only as the meek Mr. Burnham, and it’s attracted an audience using technology that didn’t exist at the time Lester’s meltdown. Needless to say, while Lester was attempting to relive the past, Spacey has clearly spent his career looking to the future. And it’s certainly paid off.

Is Katy Perry’s Next Single ‘E.T.’?

Online reports point to the spacey tune as the pop star’s fourth Teenage Dream release. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Bill McCay/ WireImage Katy Perry kicked off the summer proclaiming that “California Gurls” wear Daisy Dukes and bikinis on top. Then she pulled at our heartstrings and made us believe in true love on “Teenage Dream.” Finally, she empowered her fans with “Firework.” All three of her Teenage Dream singles have shot to the top of the charts, and she apparently is now ready to see if the fourth time’s the charm. Perez Hilton reports that Perry’s next Teenage Dream single will be the upbeat tack “E.T.” A rep at Perry’s label declined to confirm the report when reached by MTV News. Perry took to Twitter earlier this month to ask fans to help her pick her next single. There was some speculation that her choice would be “Peacock,” but the pop star didn’t reveal what tune would be next up for release. “Thanks for all your great suggestions for the next single today!” she tweeted on December 13. “Your voice has been heard! We’re on the same page…” Perry has been playing “E.T.” live as of late. Recently at Z-100’s Jingle Ball , the spirited singer joked about the spacey dance track, telling the crowd, “This next song is about falling in love with a foreigner, like far away … Not even in England.” Regardless of which tune Perry chooses as her next single, can expect the video for the track to be an event. “I guess I’m looking forward to making music videos on this new album,” she said earlier this year about Teenage Dream . “There’s a story to the songs. … I’m really excited about … making those music videos that are going to be larger than life.” Do you think “E.T.” should be Katy’s next single.
