The event raises money for the Stuart House, a program of the Rape Treatment Center at UCLA-Santa Monica’s Medical Center. The 61-year-old has visited the Rape Treatment Center and shared what she learned from being in the midst of survivors of sexual assault . “I wish we didn’t live in a world where sexual assault existed,” she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter ‘s coverage of the event. “I wish they weren’t victims of such a heinous, life-altering crime. I wish we lived in a world where our children felt effortlessly protected, without any fear of someone violating or hurting them. But sadly that is not our reality. She said that when she was a pre-teen, she woke up to find that the man her mother was dating at the time was fondling her while she slept. Unlike some victims of sexual assault though, when Angela’s mother found out, she took care of the situation and got rid of the guy. It’s unclear if that means she contacted police. Planet Hollywood was buzzing as winners from six regional qualifier events held across the United States came together in front of a packed crowd to celebrate street dance in all its forms. Throughout the evening, the greatest dancers in America showcased their best freestyle hip-hop, popping, waacking, locking, and breaking as they went head-to-head with their competitors in hopes of taking it all. Unlike more traditional competitions, you won’t find a panel of judges here; Dance Your Style is as much about charisma and connection as it is about skill. The audience was more engaged than ever as each round ended with a vote signified by displaying either a red or blue light on each individual’s bracelet. There were some seriously tough rounds that ended in tie-breakers and calls for a recount, but in the end, crowd-favorite Neguin was crowned the Red Bull Dance Your Style 2019 champion. This included the all women-identifying group THECouncil founded by Sheopatra, who competed during the Honolulu qualifier and stunned the crowd with their choreography, musicality, and hypnotizing dancing. The second act of the evening was Kida The Great, known for his viral dance videos and for winning Season 13 of So You Think You Can Dance . The final performance came from Compton born and raised musician Channel Tres, who had the whole floor dancing as he performed hit singles “Topdown’ and ‘Controller.” Following his win, Neguin will advance to the World Finals taking place across the pond in Paris, France on October 12. This will serve as the accumulation of more than 50 events held in over 30 countries all over the world, bringing together the most exceptional talents from all walks of life to compete at the first-ever World Final.   For those who want to follow along at home, the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final will be available to livestream via Red Bull Dance YouTube and Instagram on October 12.

The 6th Grader That Claimed White Students Cut Off Her Dreads Admits To Making It Up

  A 12-year-old Virginia girl that accused her white classmates of holding her down and cutting out some of her dreads has admitted that she made the story up. The Immanuel Christian School is the same private school in Virginia where the vice president’s wife was a part-time teacher, the New York Times noted . According to NBC 4 Washington , Amira Allen’s parents have apologized for their daughter’s behavior, adding that she will also be seeking counseling. “To those young boys and their parents, we sincerely apologize for the pain and anxiety these allegations have caused,” the family said in a statement, adding, “To the administrators and families of Immanuel Christian School, we are sorry for the damage this incident has done to trust within the school family and the undue scorn it has brought to the school.” Last week the story made headlines when Allen said that she was ambushed by her white classmates her on the playground last week and used scissors to cut off some of her dreadlocks while calling her “nappy” and “ugly.” “They kept laughing and calling me names,” Amari told  CBS affiliate WUSA-TV , tearing up. “They called me ‘ugly,’ said, ‘I shouldn’t have been born.’ They called me ‘an attention-seeker.’” Camera footage retrieved showed that the accused were somewhere else during the time of the alleged attack. However, the Allen family lawyer still maintains that the girl isn’t lying about being bullied. Stephen Danish, the head of the school told Essence that they plan on using this incident as a lesson in healing. “We’re grateful to the Fairfax County Police Department for their diligent work to investigate these allegations,” Danish said in the statement. “While we are relieved to hear the truth and bring the events of the past few days to a close, we also feel tremendous pain for the victims and the hurt on both sides of this conflict. We recognize that we now enter what will be a long season of healing.” “This ordeal has revealed that we as a school family are not immune from the effects of deep racial wounds in our society. We view this incident as an opportunity to be part of a learning and healing process, and we will continue to support the students and families involved,” the statement added. It’s unclear what Allen’s punishment, if any, will be. Exonerated Five’s Korey Wise Donates Backpacks, School Supplies To Underprivileged Children In Harlem

A fter enduring a harrowing experience as a result of a flawed criminal justice system Korey Wise —a member of the Exonerated Five—is turning his pain into positivity through activism. According to the Amsterdam News , the Harlem native recently provided youngsters in his community with school supplies and backpacks just in time for the new school year. #BackToSchool : Korey Wise of the #Exonerated5 distributes school supplies and inspiration in Schomburg Plaza https://t.co/cI8xMEeVuy — Amsterdam News (@NYAmNews) August 30, 2019 Wise teamed up with a group called Friends of Public Schools Harlem Inc. for the initiative. The organization provides local schools in the community with the supplies needed to ensure the educational success of their students. Friends of Public Schools Harlem Inc. also donates funds to schools for the creation of health and wellness and arts programs. The group is on a mission to provide 4,000 students in Harlem with backpacks and supplies through a grant provided by The Migdol Family Foundation. At the event hosted by Wise at Harlem’s Schomburg Plaza over 200 students were served. Wise says he was grateful to be able to pay it forward to children from his community. “It was great to be back at Schomburg Plaza where I grew up and give something back to today’s children,” he said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “Being here and providing school supplies helps students start the school year better prepared to succeed and sends a message that somebody cares. It was great to see the smiles from parents and children. I thank the Friends of Public Schools Harlem and the Migdol Family for making it happen.” FPSH board member Jerry Migdol says that Wise’s support is instrumental in leveling the playing field when it comes to educational resources. Since being exonerated in 2002 Wise—who has become a criminal justice reform advocate and public speaker—has continually used his platform and resources to give back. In 2015, he donated $190,000 to the University of Colorado’s Innocence Project to help fight wrongful convictions. That’s all fine and dandy if that’s how she wants to live, just long as she keeps it to herself and her circle of sunken place citizens. The problem with Candace’s beliefs this weekend was the fact that she brought herself to Diddy’s Revolt Music Conference in Atlanta along with all of her MAGA propaganda. To make things even spicier, whoever booked Owens for the event decided to put her on a panel with T.I. and Killer Mike , two of the most outspoken rappers and activists in the game. Now you already know that neither one of them were going to let her get up there and lie or not have her facts together. When the topic of Trump being racist came up, she tried to defend him with every drop of MAGA blood that runs through her body. Candace repeatedly asked when Trump directly said remarks that seem racist or put down black people–which is when ATL commander in chief T.I. tore her azz a new one. When the rest of the speakers on the panel told Owens that “Make America Great Again” was a slight at black people, she mentioned Ronald Reagan using the slogan and asked was it racist back then (News flash: it was). That’s when TIP interrupted her to ask “When you say ‘Make America Great Again,’ which period of America are we talking about?” And the rest, well, you just need to watch yourself because words alone can’t properly describe the dragging. Meghan Markle Chooses BFF Serena Williams’ U.S. Open Match Over Queen’s Scotland Trip!

Meghan Markle has found herself in the hot seat once again. And this time it is all because she is too dang good of a friend! (seriously)  After the Duchess made a secret getaway to New York City to watch her bestie Serena Williams play in the US Open, sources have now confirmed that the royals are royally pissed .   According to  Radar Online, the weekend of the Tennis Championship also happened to fall on the royal family’s Highland Games event at Balmoral Castle.  Which Meghan was apparently “too busy” for, even though it was earlier reported by the Mail On Sunday  that she and Prince Harry were set to attend the event.  Hmm.. *sips tea.*  Markle tried her best to keep her recent American travels on the DL as she quietly flew solo to NYC on Friday, successfully leaving on Sunday with little to no street paparazzi interferences, according to Page Six . A royal insider also shared that after Meghan’s talk-of-the-town baby shower , she learned her lesson. “After all the big fanfare of her [last NYC] trip for her two-day baby shower, where paparazzi followerd her every move and staked out The Mark Hotel to catch Meghan, her famous friends, and the array of gifts arriving, it seems Meghan has learned her lesson.”  The poor girl just wanted to cheer on her bestie without being scrutinized!  “She was in New York to support Serena, and catch up with a few other old friends, but was determined to keep everything low-key and as under-the-radar as possible,” shared the source.  Unfortunately, it’s really not that possible.  Instead, the whole world now knows that Meghan left baby Archie at home, boarded a (yep, commercial!) plane , took to the big apple, and in the royal’s minds she chose, once again, her famous friends over them. Dun, dun, dun… Scotland’s Braemar Gathering for the Highland Games — which includes a hammer throw and tug of war — has taken place for almost nine hundred years and it’s the royal family’s job to make an annual appearance to show their support to the competitors. They also take the time to enjoy a nice family vacay in Scotland while at the games.  This event is an old-fashioned royal protocol and, once again, Meghan would rather not . And we do NOT blame her.  While the Queen, her son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, and other royals attended the event, Meghan and Harry’s spokesperson said they were “too busy” and Archie, at four months, was still “too young” to make the trip. Which only lasts 1 hour in flight duration…  we’re seriously wondering what this couple will use to get out of wretched family events when Archie is too old to use as an excuse .  The new mom, however, took the 3,500-mile flight to NY to sit in the stands to support her pal… which she did, in a very cute denim dress.  Serena ended up losing the match to Bianca Andreescu of Canada, who walked away with the $3.85 million prize, but we’re sure it was still more entertaining than the ancient games taking place back in Europe.  According to a source from The Mail on Sunday, the Queen felt “hurt” by Meghan’s absence as she intended to bring together her friends and family. And on top of her disappointment, the publication shared that the Queen is also “baffled” by Meghan and Harry’s lack of protocol.  Yikes .  To have the Queen of England “hurt” and/or “baffled” by you sounds like easily one of the most horrifying things, but on behalf of the Duchess, we’re proud of her for supporting her friend and for holding on to her  life.  Markle has been blasted too many times to count, from the British press dubbing her a diva to claims that she appears to be more comfortable hanging out with her celebrity friends than doing her royal duties.
