American Apparel has done it again. The company – known for making provocative statements in order to drum up business – came out last year with a T-shirt that featured a menstruating, masturbating vagina . And just when you thought it had reached the apex of inappropriateness, a retailer on New York City’s East Houston Street debuted the following mannequin early this morning: That is A LOT of pubic hair. An employee at the store featuring this dummy said the look is meant to convey “rawness and realness of sexuality” and has been released now in time to increase sales for Valentine’s Day. Because nothing says I Love You like a giant bush, right? We know Cameron Diaz is down with this mannequin. Are you? React to it now: So gross! So funny! It sends an important message View Poll »
Gun violence has actually plunged in the U.S. since its peak in the middle of the 1990s, according to two new studies of government data. At the same time, a majority of Americans believe it is on the rise . Gun crime statistics are comprised of murders, assaults, robberies and other crimes, and the Pew Research Center found that they’re down overall. In less than two decades, the gun murder rate has been nearly cut in half, their research suggested, while other gun crimes fell even more sharply. This parallels a broader drop in violent crimes committed with or without guns, which peaked during the 1990s and has fallen sharply since then. The decline has been more modest since the turn of the century, but overall, the number of gun killings dropped 39 percent between 1993 and 2011. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported in a separate study released Tuesday that gun crimes that weren’t fatal fell by 69 percent in that time. However, guns still remain the most common murder weapon in the U.S. Also notably, despite this measurable drop in gun crime, only 12 percent of Americans surveyed believe gun crime has declined compared with 1993. Twenty-six percent of those polled said they believed that it had stayed the same in the past two decades, and 56 percent thought it had increased. It’s unclear whether media coverage is behind that, but crime has become a growing focus of TV news, and several recent events have been extremely high-profile. From the Connecticut shooting to the Aurora movie theater massacre, the Boston bombing and beyond, it’s hard to escape coverage of the worst tragedies. Also, while the rate of violent crime is down, it’s got a long ways to go. While violence has dropped, the United States still has a higher murder rate than most other developed countries, though not the highest in the world. Experts have no simple answer for why violent crime is down, attributing it to everything from a diminishing crack cocaine market to surging prison populations. Some researchers have even linked dropping crime to reduced lead in gasoline, which can cause increased aggression and impulsive behavior. Victims of gun killings are overwhelmingly male and black, according to Bureau of Justice Statistics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Compared with other parts of the country, the South had the highest rates of gun violence, including both murders and other violent gun crimes.
So here’s Scarlett Johansson all dressed up for the opening night after-party for her new Broadway play “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.” Considering we got busty pictures of her onstage last month, I thought it had already opened, but I guess it wasn’t official. But if they’re getting do-overs, can we get one for Scarlett’s after-party outfit? Considering the cleavage she rocks onstage, this is downright disappointing. I thought actors were supposed to loosen up at an after-party. Quick, somebody get Scarlett a triple shot martini and a costume change. After all, they’re trying to sell tickets here, aren’t they? » view all 24 photos Related Articles: Scarlett Johansson Nude Pictures Leaked? Dancing With the Stars standout Katherine Jenkins has joked that her outfits are being “sabotaged” on the 14th season of the ABC reality show. The Welsh opera singer, 31, may have come in as one of the season’s least-known celebrities, but she’s changed that with powerhouse routines. The occasional wardrobe malfunction doesn’t hurt, either … as long as it’s properly managed. Last night, Katherine rolled with it like a champ! Her trousers were supposed to be removed during her three-person routine with Mark Ballas and Tristan MacManus last night, but one leg got stuck … Katherine Jenkins, Mark Ballas and Tristan MacManus on Dancing With the Stars “It was a disaster. When the guys ripped my outfit off, it’s perfectly in half so I thought it had gone really smoothly,” Katherine told ET. “And then I look down and … I don’t even know how it’s worked that half a trouser leg is still there. It doesn’t make any sense. We think it was sabotaged!” The blonde songbirds admits she was left shaken by the incident. However, she did her best to remain composed on the dance floor. The trio’s score of 29 was the highest score of the second round, and left Jenkins in a tie for third on the DWTS scoreboard overall.

More than 120 whales died over 48 hours in two separate beachings, the Department of Conservation says. More than 20 pilot whales will be buried by Coromandel Maori today after dying when they became stranded yesterday, while at Farewell Spit more than 100 whales died after becoming stranded on Saturday. DOC Golden Bay biodiversity programme manager Hans Stoffregen yesterday told The Southland Times a pod of 105 long-finned pilot whales, calves and adults were found beached at the eastern tip of the spit on Boxing Day.
