Lucky Break: Justin Bieber’s Struggle Buddy Lil Za’s Felony Vandalism Charge Reduced To Misdemeanor

Lil Za can breathe a little easier. Lil Za’s Felony Vandalism Charge Reduced To Misdemeanor Hopefully, Za will stop doing dumb isht and get it together. According to CNN: Justin Bieber house guest Lil Za appeared before a judge Wednesday but stopped short of accepting a plea deal to settle drug and vandalism charges that stemmed from the January search of Bieber’s mansion. A prosecutor agreed to reduce a felony vandalism charge — which was filed after the rapper allegedly pulled a jail phone off of a wall — to a misdemeanor, but his lawyer asked for more time before entering a plea. The case was reset for April 30. Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators were looking for evidence that Bieber, 20, attacked a neighbor’s home with eggs in January when they arrested Bieber’s house guest for possession of suspected illegal drugs. Lab tests confirmed one of the drugs in the 20-year-old rapper’s possession was MDMA, also known as Molly or Ecstasy, a sheriff’s detective said. The prosecutor acknowledged in court Wednesday that the phone damage did not meet the threshold for a felony vandalism charge. Do you think Za got off easy? Continue reading

New Gabrielle Giffords Photos Emerge on Facebook

The first photos of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, taken about five months after she was tragically shot in the head , have emerged on Facebook. The images depict a a woman in recovery, smiling and with short, dark hair. They were taken by a professional photographer on May 17 at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital, a day before Giffords under a cranioplasty. The picture above was not altered or edited, according to her staff, who said it shows “Gabby has traveled a remarkable distance since Jan. 8.” “This was Mark and Gabby’s decision,” said spokesman CJ Karamargin of the pictures’ release. “There is intense interest in the Congresswoman’s appearance and on the threshold of her going to outpatient treatment, we thought this was a good way to satisfy public curiosity.” Giffords is expected to leave the hospital this month. The man accused of opening fire on her and her constituents in Arizona has been deemed mentally incompetent .

Networks Snoozing on Hoyer Suggesting Dems Won’t Vote to Continue Bush Tax Cuts for Middle Class

Between the ongoing Gulf oil spill and the McChrystal row, this story is bound to get put on the back burner, but it still deserves attention by the broadcast and cable news media. Yesterday I wrote about the Washington Post burying its story on House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer saying that congressional Democrats were not wedded to President Obama’s 2008 campaign pledge to not raise taxes on anyone earning less than $250,000 per year. Asked about those remarks at yesterday’s White House press briefing , Robert Gibbs said he had not seen the comments and would “be happy to look at and try to get a response after this [briefing].” Hours later, The Hill newspaper’s Alexander Bolton filed a story that noted it’s not just Hoyer who’s staking out this position : Democrats are looking at the possibility of raising taxes on families below the $250,000-a-year threshold promised by President Barack Obama during the election. The majority party on Capitol Hill does not feel bound by that pledge, saying the threshold for tax hikes will depend on several factors, such as the revenue differences between setting the threshold at $200,000 and setting it at $250,000. “You could go lower, too — why not $200,000?” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). “With the debt and deficit we have, you can’t make promises to people. This is a very serious situation.” Sen. Byron Dorgan (N.D.), chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee, concurred, saying, “I don’t think there’s any magic in the number, whether it’s $250,000, $200,000 or $225,000. “The larger question is whether we’ll be able to extend the tax cuts for middle-income folks,” Dorgan said. “The answer, I expect, would be yes, but we don’t quite know how it all fits in the larger picture.” It’s certainly a compelling news story in a midterm election year. Thus far, however, the broadcast network morning shows and evening newscasts have ignored the story.

Today in Commodities: Closing the Curtain on Q1

Matthew Bradbard submits: Yes folks, believe it or not Q1 is over this week. Crude is convincingly higher, closing above the 9 and 20 day MA for the first time in 8 days. We are abandoning all short strategies, as we said we would on a close above $82 in May. That is not to say we are getting long; we have advised clients to move to the sidelines. Buying was rejected in natural gas today with prices, as of this post, off their lows but 10 cents off their highs. We are almost at our threshold for pain on longs, so we most likely are close to turning around. New entries are advised to look at 50 cent call spreads in June; i.e.$4.00/4.50 or $4.25/4.75. Indices were all higher on the day but have yet to get above last Thursday’s highs. Whether we move higher or lower from here will likely be up to Friday’s NFP number. Complete Story
