James Harden Makes History, Goes Home With His First NBA MVP Award

Source: Tim Warner / Getty Rockets star  James Harden  is officially the NBA’s 2017-18 MVP. His spot at the top has felt like the general consensus among fans for a while now, but it didn’t become cemented until Harden was announced as the MVP during the  NBA Awards  on Monday night. This is the point guard’s first MVP award, despite finishing second twice in his career before. Beyond that, his win marked a first in NBA history. Harden’s former Thunder teammate,  Russell Westbrook , was the NBA MVP winner in the 2016-17 season, while his other former teammate,  Kevin Durant , won MVP for the 2013-14 season. All three players were drafted by the Thunder in consecutive seasons — which makes the first time three different players drafted by a franchise in consecutive years have been named MVP. After believing he should have won Most Valuable Player last year but coming away empty-handed, Harden chose not to prepare a speech this time– So when the  Rockets  star finished off an amazing season by walking away with the game’s top individual honor, he was most definitely flabbergasted. He goes on to deliver a speech, honoring his mother whom he calls his, “backbone.” “She's my backbone..” @JHarden13 thanks his mom for being there every step of the way as he accepts the #KiaMVP award! #ThisIsWhyWePlay #NBAAwards pic.twitter.com/Zw8Yd7whT9 — NBA (@NBA) June 26, 2018 James Harden was the league’s scoring champ, averaging 30.4 points while leading the Rockets to a franchise-record 65 victories. He was the fourth player to average at least 30 points per game and help lead his team to 65 wins, joining the likes of Stephen Curry ,  Michael Jordan  (twice) and  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar . Justin Bieber Named MVP During 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

‘We’re just here having a good time,’ Bieber says after winning the coveted title. By James Dinh Justin Bieber at the 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Feb. 18 Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic As his quest for world domination continues, Justin Bieber took to the basketball court on Friday evening to co-headline the 2011 BBVA NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Los Angeles. And even though his team lost, the teen sensation won the coveted title of MVP at the end of the star-studded game. Bieber did his best to play alongside fellow celebrity participants including Romeo, Common, Rob Kardashian, Trey Songz, actor Michael Rapaport and Nick Cannon. Basketball stars Scottie Pippen, Bill Walton, Rick Fox, Jalen Rose, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin and Swin Cash rounded out the game players. While NBA luminary Bill Walton coached the Eastern Conference, Magic Johnson served as instructor for the Western Conference. With the star talent covering the court, the East and West teams delivered steady competition against one another. But once the third quarter kicked in, the East Conference began dominating the scoreboard with a 41-33 lead. Bieber proved his basketball skills to his West team with a stat line that included eight points, two rebounds and four assists. But in the end, the Eastern Conference took the game by storm with a final score of 54-49 (Western). Despite his team’s loss, the Biebster won over the play-by-play sports commentators, who praised the teen star the one time he scored. “Justin Bieber! He could be thinking about that MVP award. He has game,” one announcer said. And as predicted, the celebrity all-star showdown ended with ESPN’s Heather Cox awarding the Most Valuable Player trophy to the teen sensation. “We’re just here. We’re having a good time. We went out there and beat them,” Bieber joked. “
