Riverdale And The Halfhearted Return Of Teen Noir

[Note: Riverdale spoilers appear within, for those who aren’t caught up with the series.] It’s been 10 years since the end of Veronica Mars, a teen drama that cleverly bubbled with the noirish atmosphere of a cynical narrator, femme fatales, and a convoluted crime. In its wake, a series of noir-lite shows have crept up… Read more »

Kristen Bell Gives Birth to Second Daughter!

One of the coolest couples in Hollywood has welcomed its second child into the world. As only they can, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard announced via Twitter late Friday night that they’re the proud parents of Delta Bell Shepard, with the latter writing to followers: “She doesn’t look like either ?@IMKristenBell? or me, but we’re gonna keep her anyway. ?#christmascameearly?” The excited mother later added: “The estrogen has now hit critical mass! Good luck, @daxshepard1.  And welcome to the world DELTA BELL SHEPARD :)” During what she deemed a “really easy” pregnancy to Us Weekly, Bell talked a few months ago about 20-month old first child Lincoln. “She can sign now and she knows 40-50 signs! I can talk to her and she’ll sign in three, four word sentences which is really amazing,” the Veronica Mars said in September, joking: “She’s the smartest baby ever!”   Bell, a funny breastfeeding advocate , has helped lead a revolt by celebrities against tabloids that publish photos of their children . We sort of totally love her. All the best to the newly expanded family! Celebrities Who Welcomed Babies in 2014 1. Kristen Bell Almost Put On A Great Show

Here’s Kristen Bell at the LA premiere of the Veronica Mars movie, and while these pictures are pretty solid, they could’ve been a whole lot better if Kristen hadn’t been such a prude and prevented a wardrobe malfunction . I mean, c’mon, I’ve been a loyal fan of her body of work for years. OK, actually, make that just her body, but still! So sure, she’s doing something good for her Veronica Mars fans, but now what about the rest of us? Or do I have to shell out a bunch of cash on Kickstarter first to make it happen? Because I will. Thanks to living in my mom’s basement my shrewd real estate investments, I’ve got some disposable income to burn. » view all 67 photos Photos: WENN.com

Zach Braff Kickstarter: $2 Million Goal Reached!

It took only 3 days for Zach Braff’s Kickstarter project to reach its $2 million goal. After launching a Kickstarter last week to fund his new film  Wish I Was Here , Braff gets to sit for 24 more days watching the till, which at the point of publishing sits at $2,224,565, continue to rise. Is it fair for celebrities with tons of money, fame, Hollywood access, and say, a wildly successful, long-running sitcom that’s currently in syndication on like 100 channels, to crowdfund their movies? Braff was inspired by the  Veronica Mars  Kickstarter  earlier this year to subvert the Hollywood system and make a movie by donation. But given that Braff’s first movie  Garden State  earned over $35 million in theaters on just a $2.5 million budget, as well as numerous award nominations, you’d think Braff would be able to get a film made within the system. Do you think Kickstarter should be off limits to celebs? Or can Zach Braff and the like use their fame to crowdfund their projects with ease?

Kristen Bell Gives Birth to a Girl!

It’s a good week to be Kristen Bell. First, fans helped blow up Kickstarter and assured that a Veronica Mars movie would be released some time in 2014. And then today… the actress gave birth! Fiance Dax Shepard Tweeted the excited news just a few moments ago, telling the world: “Lincoln Bell Shepard is here. She has mom’s beauty and dad’s obsession with breasts. Hooray!” The House of Lies star and Parenthood announced they were expecting last November. They have been engaged since 2009 and this is the first child for both. We have a feeling she will like sloths .

Veronica Mars Movie Hits Fundraising Goal, Creator "Blown" Away

Wow. That was quick. And pretty darn cool. Less than 11 hours after creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell asked fans to donate to Kickstarter in order to fund a Veronica Mars movie , the project has reached its 30-day goal of $2 million… in under 11 hours! “My mind is blown,” Thomas tells EW of the results. “I’ve been fantasizing about this taking big and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment.’ “And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver.” Veronica Mars was canceled by UPN in 2007 and starred Bell as a high school student/amateur private investigator. The film will go into production this summer and be released some time in 2014, with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution having agreed to pick up the tab for marketing, promotion and distribution.

10 Favorite Stories of 2010: Julie’s Picks

I spent 2010 overdosing on late night television, obsessively cataloging network fat jokes (everyone goes through that phase, right?), toiling in a love/hate relationship with Grey’s Anatomy , Glee basing and interviewing entertainment figures who shifted American pop culture for good (Jimmy Fallon) and evil (Pauly Shore). As one of my final Movieline duties this calendar year, I will now revisit the 10 stories that brought a smile to my face and I hope, entertained or informed you.
