Touché! Tip Talks Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri NFL Dealings… Here’s His Professional, Positively Perspicacious Assessment [Video]

T.I. Talks Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri Working With The NFL Black folks have been side-eyeing the crap out of Jay-Z after he got in bed with the NFL for what felt like a shady (and pointless) partnership . Now, T.I. is weighing in on Hov’s decision, as well as Jermaine Dupri ‘s choice to partner with the Super Bowl when it was in Atlanta . But FIRST, in the exclusive Radio One clip the Rhythm + Flow host talks about becoming more involved with the community, saying he’s careful about categorizing himself as an activist … and here’s why: “I’m active, but I’m not an activist. I feel like an activist is more philanthropic. I’m in the for-profit biz. Activists are boots on the ground, they out doing the work, mobilizing, organizing, and sacrificing luxuries for the purpose of the greater good…” he explained. On Jay-Z and JD, he commented: “You see, at the time, my reason for not rocking with the NFL was because of how I felt they were manipulating the culture. I felt that they knew that Black dollars were important. Therefore, they came to Atlanta and I felt like they went all the wrong places and did all the wrong things to encourage the Black dollar at that moment in time. I feel like it wasn’t enough fair representation. JD was a good go, but I felt like it came after the slight — after I feel like we’d already been slighted — so, you know, he took a hard stand at it. I didn’t condemn him or criticize him for it. I told him I couldn’t participate. But, I think now that the smoke has cleared, I feel like, for me having that gripe — not being fairly or properly represented — if they go out of their way to find somebody who has an ability to fairly and properly represent the culture in Jay-Z, I can’t complain about that.” Check out the clip up top for his FULL thoughts, as he had a little bit MORE to say about JD, and let us know if you agree.

Despicable: Mindy Kaling Reveals The Television Academy Tried To Erase Her Writing Credits From ‘The Office’

Source: NBC / Getty Mindy Kaling Discusses The TV Academy’s Attempt To Discredit Her Mindy Kaling caused quite the stir this week when she accused the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences of singling her out back on her days working on The Office . The actress, writer, and producer nearly missed out on being nominated for an Emmy almost a decade ago for her work on The Office . This is because The Academy–which runs the awards show–reportedly tried to cut her from the list of the show’s producers, Kaling told Elle . Not only was Minday one of the stars of the hit NBC series, which ended in 2013, she was also one of the writers and a co-producer. During this time, s he was also the only woman of color among the producers listed in Emmy contention, which is what led to her being singled out. According to Kaling, The Academy told her there were too many producers listed when the show was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. “They made me, not any of the other producers, fill out a whole form and write an essay about all my contributions as a writer and a producer,” she revealed. “I had to get letters from all the other male, white producers saying that I had contributed, when my actual record stood for itself.” After these revelations made headlines, an Academy spokesperson denied her claims, saying the following: “No one person was singled out. There was an increasing concern years ago regarding the number of performers and writers seeking producer credits,” according to a statement to CNN and other news outlets . “At the time the Producers Guild worked with the Television Academy to correctly vet producer eligibility. Every performer producer and writer producer was asked to justify their producer credits. We no longer require this justification from performer producers and writer producers, but we do continue to vet Consulting Producer credits with the PGA to ensure those credited are actually functioning in the role as a producer.” But following the response from The Academy, Kaling doubled down on her initial claims in a series of tweets. https://twitter.com/mindykaling/status/1182007927193784320?s=20 https://twitter.com/mindykaling/status/1182009983921094656?s=20 https://twitter.com/mindykaling/status/1182011824218107904?s=20 https://twitter.com/mindykaling/status/1182012451568549888?s=20 https://twitter.com/mindykaling/status/1182100155417251840?s=20

Everything We Can Expect From Tyler Perry’s Groundbreaking Atlanta Studio

The rest is here:

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN T yler Perry is leading the way when it comes to Black people building power in the entertainment industry and his latest venture is history in the making. According to CBS News , Perry hosted a grand opening for his massive Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta this past weekend. The film complex covers 330 acres and includes 12 sound stages. It’s actually larger than the Burbank, California lots owned by Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros and Paramount combined. If that isn’t news enough, Perry is the first Black American to own a major film studio, period. Celebrity attendees for the grand opening included samuel l. jackson , oprah winfrey , beyoncé and Spike Lee . Perry went on to say that despite Hollywood not getting him, “I know what I do is important. I know what I do touches millions of people around the world. I know how important every word, every joke, every laugh [is]. I know what that does for the people where I come from and the people that I’m writing for. So, yeah, I get that.” Perry is the creative behind 22 movies, 20 plays and eight TV shows. All of his work has led to this moment. He explained: “I know for a fact that when I drive in through these gates, onto this 330 acres and see these 12 sound stages, and see the highway sign that says ‘Tyler Perry Studios’ as you’re making to the exit in here, as I come in here and I see these hundreds of people working, these black and brown – I’ve been on sets where I’ve been the only black face on,  only black face , as recently as 2019 going, ‘Where are the black people in this movie?’ Back behind the camera? So, when I come to work here and every black person that comes to work here they go, ‘Oh my God, it’s heaven. Here we are. We’re represented.’ Where everybody’s represented. LGBTQ’s represented. Black, white, gay, straight, whatever. We’re all represented, working hand-in-hand, arm-in-arm.” Tyler Perry Studios was built on part of Fort McPherson military base, which was once used by the Confederate army. Perry called it “poetic justice” that his Black-owned studio is now housed on land that was once used to uphold slavery. The 12 sound stages at Tyler Perry Studios are each named after seminal Black actors and actresses including cicely tyson and the recently deceased Diahann Carroll . Included with the 12 sound stages is a full-on replica of The White House where Perry shoots his upcoming BET show “The Oval”. Perry says this is only the beginning for his historical studio. He also told Gayle King in his “CBS This Morning” interview , “I tell you what I’m most excited about next is that pulling this next phase off is building a compound for trafficked women, girls, homeless women, LGBTQ youth who are put out and displaced and having a compound that is a beautiful place, right here somewhere on these 330 acres, where they’re trained in the business and they become self-sufficient, they live in nice apartments, there’s daycare, there’s all these wonderful things that allows them to reenter society and then pay it forward again.” SEE ALSO: Everything We Know About Momolu Stewart, The Man Kim Kardashian Helped To Get Released From Prison After Over 20 Years Penn State Slams Racist Fan Who Sent Star Player ‘Disgusting’ Dreadlocks Letter [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3888948″ overlay=”true”]

Maitland Ward: Boy Meets World Star Embarks on Adult Film Career, Regets Nothing

If you were a fan of the late-’90, early-2000s sitcom Boy Meets World , then you’re likely familiar with the work of Maitland Ward. For two seasons, Ward played Rachel McGuire on the popular sitcom, but in the years that followed, her career an unexpected turn. Like the internet itself, Ward quickly realized there’s more money to be made in the pornographic arts than in other, more wholesome forms of entertainment. And so, acting gave way to racy cosplay at conventions, which in turn gave play to going full-Diggler and actually having sex on camera. Yes, Ward is a full-blown porn star these days, and while there was a time when news of a mainstream TV actress entering the adult industry might have come as a shock, we live at a time in which a porn star nearly took down a corrupt president , so there’s a good deal more respect for the profession that at any other time in history. Ward spoke with In Touch this week and in a surprisingly candid interview, the 42-year-old described her unlikely “journey” from Disney-owned ABC to the front page of PornHub. “They asked me to be a part of this, and I thought, ‘I never knew there was anything in adults or porn or whatever that was this well done.’ I read the script, and I was like, ‘This is really, really well-written,’” Ward says. “This has so many themes in this and just my character is so different than anything I have portrayed before.” Yes, the actress made her adult debut last month, and she’s currently promoting her new film Drive , which sadly has nothing to do with the weird 90-minute music video starring Ryan Gosling that had every frat douche wearing a scorpion jacket for Halloween back in 2011. Interestingly, Ward says she thinks the work she’s putting in on her current projects is stronger than anything she’s ever done on TV: “I really got to set myself free with this and really express myself in a way that I haven’t done before,” she explains. “I don’t think my fans have seen me like this before — really, they haven’t. It’s just very deep sensuality, and I think that is a really fun way to play an explorer, and I got to do things that I wouldn’t have thought in the past. Just these sexual situations that are sort of taboo.” Ward adds that the career move is something she’s considered for a long time, but she only recently felt confident enough to make the leap. “I started doing this kind of film, professional stuff, not very long ago — only a couple months ago,” she said. “I felt ready. It wasn’t like I was saying, ‘Oh, I want to do this all along,’ but it was like, ‘I need to do this.’ I really feel that quality stuff and the hot sex stuff can be together, and I really want that,” Maitland continues. “I hope my past and stuff can add any legitimacy to a great project, to get attention or to get people to actually watch and say, ‘Oh yeah, it is really good.’”  As for what finally inspired her to go the full monty, Ward credits the self-assurance that comes with age: “Over time, I kind of don’t give a f—k anymore,” she shares. “I want to be who I am, and I just think as I have matured too, I am who I am. I want my cellulite to be sexy. Of course, there are days you don’t want to. I don’t do it every day. If I am feeling like crap, I am not going to go run out in the streets naked, you know?” We wish her all the best — and we’re sure lots of folks who grew up on Boy Meets World will be happy to follow Ward on her new career path.

Alana Thompson: My Mama Put Me Through HELL This Year!!

This year, June Shannon has been in such bad shape that Alana Thompson couldn’t bear to live with her own mother — it just wasn’t safe. While attorneys protected Alana’s money from her mom , Alana’s sister Lauryn took her in. Now, Alana has penned a moving post about enduring the horrors of this year — and how she is thriving. “Can we just be real for a second?” 14-year-old Alana asks her fans and followers. As Honey Boo Boo is well aware, many popular users on social media avoid sincerety in public posts. But she wants to talk about this. She writes: “Let me tell y’all how proud i am of myself!” “i have honestly been thought hell and back this year,” Alana points out. “And i’m still standing!” “i have been doing so good in school,” she adds. “And just being more happy.” Not all of the negativity in her life has come from June Shannon and Geno being the worst . “I get so much hate,” Alana laments. “But then,” she writes. “I think about who all loves me and i know them haters mean nothing.” ” i have so much going for me,” Alana affirms. “And so many people that love me.” “And the best words you can hear is I see you trying i’m so proud of you,” she expresses. “But really that feeling is a whole different story,” Alana gushes. “Knowing you are making people happy and most importantly you hits so different,” she observes. Alana has a powerful, uplifting message for her followers. She writes: “let me just be the one to tell y’all if you are going through anything right now” “Trust me,” Alana ssures them. “It gets better you are worth it.” “i’m so proud of you,” Alana praises any of her followers who may be in need of validation. “i can see you trying,” she adds. Alana concludes her inspiring message: “i love you.” Not every teen reality star has the presence of mind to give these kinds of affirmations to her own young, impressionable fans. Alana has been through a lot, but she knows that her family doesn’t have a monopoly on tragedy. June Shannon’s drama is Alana’s trauma. June was arrested for crack cocaine alongside her terrible garbage boyfriend, Geno Doak, earlier this year. Afterwards, instead of cleaning up their acts, the pair seemed to shrug off all concerns. They went on gambling adventures while staying in hotels. Most recently, June sold off most of her possessions from her home — and is now living in an RV with Geno. We’re relieved that Alana missed most of the horror show that left June’s home covered in explained and unexplained damage. But that doesn’t make this easy for her. She’s just a young teenage girl, and her mother has fallen so far. When Alana pleaded with June to go to rehab at that disastrous intervention, June declined — adamantly. She said that she would not go to any inpatient treatment. Lauryn explained her “reasoning.” The truth is that June was afraid that without her there to keep an eye on him, Geno would either leave her or simply cheat. No man is worth your family, your health, your money, or all of the work that you poured into bettering your life. Carl Ruiz, Former Food Network Star, Dead at 44

Awful news today out of the world of reality television and cooking: Carl Ruiz, a well-known chef who appeared on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and more of Guy Fieri’s programs, has died in his sleep. He was 44 years old. The tragic news was confirmed on Sunday by social media personality Matt Farah, who was close to Ruiz and who announced that his friend passed away on Saturday night from a heart attack. “I’m heartbroken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone,” Fieri tweeted after the news went public. He added: “I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family. His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef. “Over the years, I’ve met a lot of great people but a friend like Carl is one in a hundred million. Carl ’The Cuban’ Ruiz will forever live on in my heart and in those of all who loved him.” Ruiz’s family restaurant — Marie’s Italian Specialties in Chatham Township, New Jersey — was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives twice over the past few years. Carl was later hired to appear on Fieri’s shows Guy’s Grocery Games and Guy’s Ranch Kitchen. The two chefs became very close as a result. In June, Ruiz opened the restaurant La Cubana in New York City, from whose Instagram account there was posted a tribute earlier today. “On behalf of the La Cubana family, with heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Executive Chef Carl Ruiz,” the post read. It continued as follows: “No words can fully express our sadness at the sudden loss of our dear friend and brother. “Beyond his immense culinary talent, Carl’s larger-than-life personality never failed to entertain, enlighten, and uplift every person he encountered along his #Ruizing adventures. His fierce intellect and infectious humor knew no bounds. “He was a mighty force of down home Cuban cuisine, and lived life to the fullest, just as he cooked—with ‘dancing always’ as the most important ingredient.” This is how that in memoriam message concluded: Here at La Cubana, Carl paid proud tribute to his Cuban roots each night, and it is here that Carl’s legacy, undeniable spirit and passion for his culture will live on. We hope we make you proud, Carlito. To honor the work you loved so much Chef, La Cubana will continue your work in establishing The Carl Ruiz Scholarship Foundation for aspiring chefs. We love you! You are already missed. Rest easy. And here is how Guys Grocery Games and Guy’s Ranch Kitchen star Eric Greenspan saluted his late pal: “RIP Carl Ruiz,” Eric Greenspan wrote on Instagram, adding: “You hear it a lot, but never could it be more true. The world is significantly worse without you. Heaven doesnt know what just hit it.” Fellow Food Network star Alex Guarnaschelli tweeted: “This man was somehow fatherly, comforting, wise, reckless, brilliant, wickedly funny & unique all in 1. My life will be lonelier without him. Love you Carl. “I’ll make sure no one puts pineapple on pizza best I can without you here. #rip @carlruiz.” “Remember how Carl would sometimes say, ‘That’s it I’m leaving Twitter forever’? Then he would be back on 2 hours later with an update: a hotdog from somewhere special & a cackle of glee?” she added. “Carl was a great cook & shared every moment of his life with us & I already miss it. #rip” May he rest in peace. The Met To Present Its First Opera Composed By A Black Musician

Follow this link:

F or the first time in its 136-year history, New York’s Metropolitan Opera will host an opera created by a Black composer, The Hill reported. The Met to stage its first opera by a black composer https://t.co/NijtLp8Dqo pic.twitter.com/ggb4I0W8br — The Hill (@thehill) September 20, 2019 As part of its upcoming programming the opera house will feature Fire Shut Up in My Bones ; a piece created by Grammy-winning jazz musician Terence Blanchard . Blanchard’s project was inspired by a memoir penned by journalist Charles M. Blow . The book captures Blow’s coming-of-age journey as a Black man in America. It details the traumatic experiences that he endured as a child and explores topics like racism, poverty, sexuality and spirituality. “There is a level of you never really know yourself until you write about yourself. You also don’t fully know the people around you until you have to examine them. I had always been angry about my father’s alcoholism. I felt sympathy after writing the book, because I had to explore it in a way that I hadn’t thought about it before,” Blow told The St. Louis American . “One thing I’ve learned as a journalist is that if you tell your own story, then it belongs to you. If somebody finds something out about you and they tell it, it belongs to them.” The opera made its debut in June at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and Blanchard is beyond excited to bring it to New York City and make history. “I wish my father was alive,” he told the New York Times. “He was an avid opera fanatic.” For decades Blanchard has composed the musical scores for several pivotal films. The Louisiana native—who launched his career with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra—has worked on the music for Spike Lee films including Mo’ Better Blues , Do the Right Thing , Malcolm X , BlacKkKlansman , Inside Man , When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts and others. He’s garnered many awards for his work including six Grammys. Fire Shut Up in My Bones is slated to premiere at the Metropolitan Opera house during its 2021-22 season.
