Rihanna ‘Birthday Cake’ Cameo Will ‘Shock The World’

Producers Da Internz tell MTV News that cameo on full-length version of the interlude will ‘shock’ fans. By Rebecca Thomas, with additional reporting by Kelly Marino Rihanna performs at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage It’s one of the most-talked about songs on Rihanna’s Talk That Talk, and it’s barely a minute long. Now, “Birthday Cake” — 78 titillating seconds of school bells, handclaps and engines gunning — is set to get a full-length reboot. But according to co-producers Da Internz, the featured guest on the remix will be more than just icing. “We got the Rihanna ‘Birthday Cake’ coming out in a week,” a bespectacled Kosine told MTV News on the red carpet of the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Brunch, held over the Grammy weekend. “It’s gonna be crazy,” his production partner, Tuo, said shaking his head. “And the feature on there is gonna shock the world,” Kosine chimed in cryptically. The interlude (board work by Da Internz and The-Dream) is among the saucier bits on Rihanna’s sixth LP, with the titular confection serving as a metaphor for a region of the female anatomy. “I know you wanna bite this/ It’s so enticing,” Rih sings. “Nothing else like this, I’ma make you my bitch/ And it’s not even my birthday / But you wanna put your name on it.” A hypnotic chant on the word cake follows. So would Da Internz offer up even a hint at the identity of this jaw-dropping guest feature? “Nope, nope, not gonna be on my watch,” Kosine said smiling but tight-lipped. “All I’m gonna say is stay tuned — it’s dropping [this] week.” Tuo added that fans should also expect a clip for what stands to be an explosive track. “The visual has to go with it because everybody’s going to be like, ‘Oh my god!’ That left us wildly speculating, tossing around names in the MTV Newsroom. After some thought, we realized that buzzed-about artists who have organic connections to Rih, like onetime flame Drake or Roc Nation pal J. Cole, wouldn’t exactly shock us by making an appearance on a Rihanna single. But what about Chris Brown, who was spotted last week exiting the same Hollywood recording studio as his fellow Grammy performer, Rihanna? Rumors quickly began to swirl that the exes were cooking up a duet. A verse from Brown, the crooner indelibly tied to the Bajan beauty since their relationship imploded after a February 2009 assault ? That would be shocking. Chris Brown Denies Rihanna Relationship Rumors

‘He and Rihanna are just friends,’ Brown’s rep tells ABC News of hookup rumors. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna and Chris Brown Photo: Rick Diamond/WireImage Nearly three years after Chris Brown assaulted then girlfriend Rihanna , rumors have spread that the two have been hooking up for the past year. But Brown’s rep has stoutly denied there is any truth to the gossip. “He and Rihanna are just friends,” his rep tells ABC News . “He is with his girlfriend, Karrueche, and is not cheating.” Sources told US Weekly that the former couple “meet up very casually,” adding, “She comes to see him anytime she’s in L.A.” Other sources say that “they can’t get enough of each other. I don’t see it ending well.” “Rihanna loves to live dangerously,” another source added. “And talking to and hooking up with Chris is all part of that.” While Brown is speaking out against the report, instead of responding to the rumors, Rihanna has been posting a series of vacation photos on her Twitter. In them, she’s seen posing on the beach in her bikini, hanging with her friends on a surfboard and working out on a treadmill. Rihanna has also been focusing on the positive, which includes another week at the top of the charts for her Calvin Harris-produced track, “We Found Love.” She’s also set to perform with Coldplay at the Grammy Awards on February 12. She appears on their Mylo Xyloto track, “Princess of China.” “My friends @ColdPlay and I will be sharing the stage for a performance at this years Annual Grammy Awards!” Rihanna tweeted Wednesday night, later adding, “I’m in a great mood, and I got some GREAT NEWS!!! Rihanna And Drake Flirt, Fire Up Grammy Stage

Sassy singer and Toronto MC perform hit single ‘What’s My Name?’ as pyrotechnics light up the stage. By Jayson Rodriguez Rihanna and Drake perform during the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards Photo: The Recording Academy/CBS Luckily for Rihanna, she didn’t take the Grammy stage until after 11 p.m. on Sunday (February 13) because the Loud star’s gyrating hips and seductive dancing might have been too steamy for primetime. Rihanna was joined by Drake and the two delivered a flirtatious rendition of their “What’s My Name?” The Toronto lyricist — dressed in a black leather jacket, boots, sweater and cargo pants — dropped his sexually charged opening rhyme then positioned himself behind Rih Rih for a quick two-step as pyrotechnics fired off in the background. “Not everybody knows how to work my body,” Rihanna sang. “Knows how to make me want it/ Boy you stay up on it/ You got that something / That keeps me so off balance/ Baby you’re a challenge, lets explore your talent.” Rihanna traded in the extravagant gown she wore for her performance with Eminem for “Love the Way You Lie” in favor of short red number that was as fiery as her hair. The backdrop could have passed for an erotic scene in Pacino’s “The Devil’s Advocate.” It was by far the sexiest performance of the night. During a short Calypso-style breakdown, Rihanna shook and shimmied with a sneaky grin. “Ooh na na, what’s my name?” she sang on the chorus. “What’s my name, what’s my name?” “Baby you got me, ain’t nowhere that I’d be,” Rih continued on with her verse. “Then with your arms around me, back and forth you rock me/ So I surrender, to every word you whisper/ Every door you enter, I will let you in.” What did you think of Rihanna and Drake’s Grammy performance? Usher Says New ‘Rev Pop’ Project Is A ‘Movement’

Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like ‘Yeah!’ and ‘OMG.’ By James Montgomery Usher Photo: MTV News With the success of songs like “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” “Hot Tottie” and “OMG,” Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he’s looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a “movement.” It’s something he’s calling “Rev Pop” — or, simply, “Rev” — and though he’s already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn’t reveal much, he did let it be known that “Rev” isn’t exactly something new. In fact, he’s been doing it for a while now. “I’ll give it to you this way: At a later date, I’ll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I’ve done it before, I did it with ‘Yeah,’ ” he said, “taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with ‘OMG,’ once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul. “It’s bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here, ” he said, gesturing toward his heart, “And that’s what Rev Pop is. There’s more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that’s just what I’m going to tell you right now. ‘Rev’ is what it’s called … the movement is called Rev.” Usher wouldn’t say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they’re going to be impressed … if not a little shocked. “Stay alive,” he smiled, “Because you’re definitely going to be in for a surprise.” Related Artists Usher

Aretha Franklin Tribute Declared Best Grammy Performance By Readers

MTV News voters give props to Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and more for their set. By Kyle Anderson Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride and Christina Aguilera perform during the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images In the lead-up to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, MTV News readers cast their votes for the performance they were most excited to see. The Aretha Franklin tribute , which featured Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams, ended up taking home the bulk of the vote. Once Sunday’s show was over, we asked people to vote for their favorite performance of the night. Was it the triumphant return of Dr. Dre? The stage-owning performance by Justin Bieber? Or perhaps it was Arcade Fire’s eye-popping run to close out the show? But in the end, the tribute to Franklin stood supreme once again. The five-diva performance — which ran through some of Franklin’s biggest hits over the course of her five-decade career — picked up 39 percent of the total vote to take first place. “No doubt its xtina and the gang!” wrote commenter Sef. “No eggs or crazy gimmicks but still they entertained the crowd. They all sound amazing!” Of course, that comment was in reference to Lady Gaga’s egg-assisted run through “Born This Way” during the show’s first hour. That performance racked up 27 percent of the vote to finish in second place. The three-way combination of Justin Bieber, Usher and Jaden Smith was right behind Gaga with 22 percent. “Justin Bieber, Usher and Jaden Smith did an amazing job,” commenter BelieberForever96 wrote. “It was awesome. They should win.” Only Eminem, Dr. Dre and Rihanna’s performances of “Love the Way You Lie” and “I Need a Doctor” managed to put much of a dent in the voting beyond that point, as they picked up 6 percent despite some very vocal support in the comments section and on Facebook. Album of the Year winner Arcade Fire ‘s pair of songs earned only 1.5 percent, and Muse’s take on “Uprising” cobbled together 1 percent. And the least-voted-for performance award goes to Miranda Lambert, whose presentation of “The House That Built Me” did not ignite the voters’ enthusiasm. What was your favorite Grammy performance? Nicki Minaj On Grammys: ‘It Doesn’t Matter What I’m Nominated For!’

‘To sell, like, a million records, in this economy, that’s crazy,’ she tells MTV News on red carpet. By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj and Sway on the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards red carpet Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj’s debut album took the top spot on the charts, she’s a Grammy nominee and presenter and she met up with her reality-TV heroine Snooki on the red carpet . But despite all the high points, the 26-year-old star assured MTV News that the best is yet to come. “In my head, I’ve already done two movies, I’ve already put my second album out, I’ve already gone on a world tour. That’s what I’m looking for the next 12 months to bring,” she said shortly before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards at the Los Angeles Staples Center, where she was nominated alongside Ludacris in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category. “I have some surprises that people are not gonna believe. I have some surprises that I’m going to be able to announce really, really soon.” The hip-hop star’s Pink Friday reached #1 on the Billboard 200 chart nearly three months after its release. She’s done “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show,” and her leopard-print couture turned heads at the Grammys. It’s been a crazy ride and one that she’s learned from in ways that will benefit her greatly in the future. “I’ve learned to never rush anything in my career or my life anymore,” she said. “The last year taught me that. Like, even with the new album, it’s going to take its course naturally and everything is going to work out. Because before I used to stress out. You know, ‘Am I nominated for this?’ “It doesn’t matter what I’m nominated for! I’m working! I am a working artist in the freaking worst economy ever. To sell, like, a million records, in this economy, that’s crazy.” Next on the Young Money rapper’s agenda is a tour with mentor Lil Wayne that will also feature Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Rick Ross, among others. “I’m really looking forward to that tour,” she said. “And just getting back to L.A. and cranking out some new records and all of that good stuff. I’m working with a lot of new producers as well, so I’m excited.” Minaj’s schedule may get hectic, but she works hard to maintain balance and perspective. “Overall, I’m in a peaceful place. And that’s the only thing that you could ask for. To be in the midst of this chaotic business,” she added, pointing to the red carpet around her, “and be able to find peace? I’m good.” For Grammy Awards winners list, analysis, interviews, fashion and more, stick with MTV News during the big show and beyond. Lady Gaga’s Grammy Performance: How Will She Top Herself?

MTV News takes a guess at what Lady Gaga will do Sunday during her ‘Born This Way’ performance. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs at the 2010 Grammy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images On Sunday, days after debuting “Born This Way,” a splashy dance track about accepting who you are, Lady Gaga is set to take the stage and perform the song for the first time at the Grammys (if you don’t count the time she sang part of the chorus at the VMAs back in September). Gaga’s live performances are typically gory, over-the-top spectacles. She died a bloody death onstage during the 2009 VMAs , she played with fire that same year at the American Music Awards and paid tribute to her late pal, Alexander McQueen , at the Brit Awards in 2010. Last year at the Grammy Awards , the singer didn’t miss a beat. She appeared, donning a sparkly getup by Armani Priv
