Source: FOX / Getty It’s clear that this season of Empire is going to tease us about the mysterious person in the casket until the very end, and we just have to deal. We start tonight’s episode with Lucious at that funeral staring at the casket. Becky joins him, grabs his hand, and says, “You couldn’t have known.” Couldn’t have known about what? Didn’t Cookie have a heart attack last season? Lordt. Anyway, we flashback 6 months before that again. Cookie and Lucious have been working well with Treasure and have what they know will be a hit single. However, they’re starting from scratch and discover that radio stations are regarding them as has-beens and are therefore playing hardball. Basically, the stations what Lucious to put his business on blast during interviews with their personalities–particularly addressing the rumors about Cookie and Lucious being broke. Lucious doesn’t want to go there at first but starts to realize that he may have to as things are different now. Giselle thinks she’s going to be the new CEO of Empire but gets a rude awakening when Patel announces that it’s actually going to be Jeff Kingsly. That’s the man that we saw Giselle sleeping with last week. He’s thrilled but she’s tight. Sitting there looking like: Obviously, Giselle is pissed and we all know she’ll be plotting because it’s what she does. Dre is still in the bing, having a hard time keeping out of trouble just before he’s about to be released. People, including some of the guards, are looking out for him, but there’s a bully inmate that Dre is itching to put the paws on so we all know this will come back up eventually. Lucious finds his way to another radio station and offers to give them an exclusive interview about the meaning behind his classic song, “A Child is Born,” something he has never talked about. So, of course, these thirsty reporters jump at the scoop! The deal gets done and once they get their interview, they play Treasure’s song and issa hit. But don’t get too excited because Giselle ends up stealing Treasure away from them. Yup, Treasure is disloyal trash and decides to sign with Empire because they have the better deal. Plus, she’s not about that recording in the living room life. Lucious and Cookie threaten to sue Treasure, because they did sign a contract, but then Giselle points out that they don’t have the money to battle Empire in court and they’re still trying to keep their money woes on the low. Next, Kingsly meets up with Lucious and Cookie and apologizes for the Treasure situation because Giselle acted on her own with that one. He says he respects them and thinks Eddie Barker messed up when he cut them out. He wants to take Empire back to its roots but needs them on board, so he offers them chairman and chairwoman positions. Basically, they’ll get money to show up to events here and there and add cosigns to music. It’s shallow, but at least there will be money involved. Lucious and Cookie have no reason to trust him so they’re still skeptical but they’ll think about it. Hopefully, they at least figure out how to get stake back in their company! But what ends up happening is, a drunken Hakeem has a public meltdown in Empire’s lobby and ends up at his parent’s house, downtrodden because he can’t rap due to his injured lung. Cookie and Lucious counseling him but they’re worried. This prompts Cookie to convince Lucious to take the Kingsly deal. Hakeem and Jamal don’t like the idea of this but they’ll support their parents anyway. Now we fast forward to their Welcome Home party in the Empire Records lobby. This is where Kingsly finally takes his mask off. There’s a moment when he makes small talk with Lucious, who is visibly not thrilled that any of this is happening, and he still doesn’t trust Kingsly. He’s also not feeling Kingsly condescending way of seeming like he’s doing some sort of charity. Kingsly is aware of this and gets pissed that Lucious isn’t being grateful so he tells Lucious that he and Cookie better step and fetch it on the microphone when they make the announcement about the deal, with big smiles on their faces. If they don’t then take the offer on his terms then he’s going to tell the world that they’re broke. Now let’s cut to Kingsly making a show of bringing Lucious on stage. Lucious gets on stage and invites Cookie and his sons up to the stage. Then he takes control of his narrative! He reveals that the rumors about them being broke are true and rips the new Empire to shreds. He goes all the way left when he says that Empire isn’t the place for the Lyons anymore because the new owner and CEO’s are really just techies who are about the dollar, not the artists, and know nothing about the music. He caps his speech by inviting all the real ones to join them with their brand new management and production company who will put artists first. Kingsly is pissed. No really, Kingsly tells Lucious that he’s making a huge mistake, but there’s an ominous tone in his words. He’s standing there looking like: And we end the episode at the funeral again. Thirsty comes in and asks who Lucious wants to ride with in the limo. He says he’s riding alone and then the FBI comes in because they want to talk to Lucious. So yeah, we’re just going to have to ride this mysterious death the entire way through. Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty Zendaya Coleman may play a yeti in her latest role, but she relates to her character more than you think. “She’s very bright and has this truth in her. It’s this sense of confidence and she knows what she feels is right in her heart,” says Zenaya. All of which can easily be said about the Hollywood starlet. Zendaya’s role in Smallfoot , is that of the young yeti, Meechee, who finds herself questioning the status quo. “This whole movie is about asking. So that’s what I try to do is just ask questions and don’t think I’m exempt from being wrong because I can always be wrong. I can always make the wrong decisions. I’m not perfect, but I try my best to learn. And again, like you said, hold myself accountable.” Zendaya boasts about the voice of her co-star Common, who lends his vocal prowess to the Stonekeeper. LeBron James, Channing Tatum, Yara Shahidi, James Coredon and Danny Devito also star in the kid’s flick. “[Meechee] knows what she feels is right in her heart and she’s really doing anything to prove that. She happens to be the Stonekeepers daughter, played by Common, who’s the perfect, authoritative, regal voice.” At 22-years-old, Zendaya knows a thing or two about “voice.” She is well-respected among her Hollywood peers and fans who adore her candor, style and bold stances where other celebrities may remain silent. “I try to do things for the right reasons. I’m never doing anything for people’s opinions or if it’s not sitting right,” she says. “If it doesn’t feel right to me, then that’s when I know something’s wrong. I’m not afraid to admit when I don’t know something.” The former Disney star’s fan base is comprised of young women. “I’m lucky to have people look up to me in that way. I try to do my best to inspire other people to do their best.” Zendaya’s star continues to rise, but her family keeps her humble. “They have absolutely no problem telling me about myself and [they] keep me grounded. They create this barrier and if they’re like my protection group, you know, which is really great to have so that I’m lucky to have.” Zendaya makes an effort to encourage change in the industry by refusing to take certain roles and constantly speaking up for all people of color when it comes to representation in media. “We obviously have a lot further to go with our representation of people in media, whether that be black women, or any in any person of color really. We all want to get to a point where everybody feels represented and feels like they can go to the movies and see themselves on the screen.” As for what Zendaya has coming up, it is rumored she will be starring as the Little Mermaid in the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic. While she made it clear, those are just rumors, she said she would love the honor to play Arielle. “I mean, why not? I loved that movie growing up. Those are my favorites. We would love to see it happen. If it happens. It’s a great thing if it doesn’t instill a great thing.” Catch Zendaya in Smallfoot when it hits theaters on September 28. Whether you love or hate her, Nicki Minaj is one of the hottest topics in the country right now. From her beef with Travis Scott and Cardi B to her fourth studio album, Queen , the “Barbie Dreams” rapper has had the nation talking for months . Yesterday, we sat down with J. Reid , the upcoming producer who delivered five of Nicki’s hottest tracks this year . Queen cuts “Chun-Li,” “Rich Sex” featuring Lil Wayne, “Thought I Knew You” featuring The Weeknd, and “Ganja Burns” were all produced by Reid, not to mention “Barbie Tingz,” which Nicki placed on the exclusive Target edition of her album. The Atlanta native, who’s also worked with Lloyd and Rick Ross, talks life before linking with Ms. Minaj, as well as what he says are misconceptions about the NY superstar. He also dishes on his work with the ever so talented Bahja Rodriguez (formerly of OMG Girlz) and more. On finding out Nicki Minaj wanted to work with him “Really, I’ma be honest, I didn’t even believe it,” he began. “Brinx [Billions] from NY was like ‘Yo she loves the song! Send me the beat for the song!” Brinx was referring to what would later become “Rich Sex.” “I was timid,” Reid said of Brinx reaching out. “I was like ‘hm, I don’t know…I know he knows Nicki Minaj but I don’t know.’ I just had to trust him and I finally sent the beat and I went down there and met her in, like, December of last year. It was incredible.” Touching on the fact that he can now add The Weeknd to his long list of collaborations, thanks to his work with Minaj, Reid said “That’s the beauty of it because I didn’t walk into it expecting anything. I was just working…head down, working.” On what life was like before working on Queen “Life before all of this happened…I was working with a lot of independent artists. I was recording sessions to make bread. I was doing a lot of engineering work…mixing, mastering. I was making beats, of course, but it wasn’t a consistent thing where I was working with a whole bunch of bigger artists. I took time to just focus on indie artists and indie music because now a days, the indies are winning. Those are the artists getting the most notoriety and coming up fast because they don’t have no control over them. So that’s what I was doing. I actually had Lloyd and Lil Wayne on a record… “Holding,” off of Lloyd’s new album. I was working on Rick Ross, Lloyd, and Wayne right before all this Nicki stuff popped off, so things were heating up.” On producing Bahja Rodriguez’s next album and her post-OMG Girlz sound “I say her sound is pop and R&B but with a trap edge—that’s the kind of producer I am. I’m a down south producer, so I’m bringing a lot of different elements together to create her sound. But Bahja can do anything—she has one of those voices that’s effortless. She does all kinds of music…ballads, the energetic trap songs,” he said of the singer, adding that she really can’t be boxed into any one specific genre. On other projects he’s currently working on “Working on Sevyn Streeter. [YFN] Lucci, got some stuff with him. I got a record with Lil Baby that just kind of came out. I got a lot of stuff in the works. Commercials, I’m trying to do a couple video game placements, movies…” On artists he’s still hoping to work with “One of my hometown favorites, Future. He has a video on Instagram and he’s listening to ‘Rich Sex’ getting on a private jet, which is crazy, like ‘Yea he’s listening to my song!’ He’s vibing to it,” Reid said with excitement. “So, in the near future I’m sure we can probably get a record out.” Later, he mentions Pharrell as another artist he’d love to work with. On Nicki Minaj not being what tabloids make her out to be Referring to people believing everything the media says about Minaj, he told us “You have to careful what you regurgitate because at the end of the day, she put me in this position.” Reid says Nicki has had trust in him and allowed him to simply do his thing, adding “I look at it and laugh. She’s nothing like what they say…she’s a positive person, she’s about her business, and she’s worried about the stuff that she got going on.”

As previously reported, tragedy has once again struck Hollywood. Around noon on Friday, authorities, responding to a call from an unknown individual, arrived at the San Fernando Valley home of Mac Miller and found the rapper dead . He was 26 years old. As of this writing, the likely cause of death is a drug overdose. The artist had been well known and respected across the music industry ever since his debut album in 2012… but he was perhaps better known of late for his long-term relationship with Ariana Grande. This romance ended in May , with sources saying that Miller’s substance abuse issues played a significant role in Grande deciding it was time to part ways. Just a week later, Miller was arrested for drunk driving . Shortly afterward, in July, he an interview to Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Apple Music in which he referred to himself as a “self-destructive depressed drug user.” But he also assured fans at this time that he was doing okay and that he was “happy” for Grande, who he dated for two years. Just over a month later, Miller is dead. “Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” his family said in a statement provided to multiple outlets. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time Elsewhere, Warner Bros. Records added the following: “Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and sense of humor that touched everyone he met. “Mac’s death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless.” The Los Angeles Fire Department has confirmed that first responders were dispatched Friday after an 11:42 a.m. call about a medical complaint at a residence in Studio City, California. They did not transport anyone from the scene, making it safe to assume that Miller had passed away before they arrived. “I just wanna go on tour,” Miller Tweeted on Thursday. “The show is going to be special every night. I wish it started tomorrow.” Meanwhile, while music heavyweights mourn Miller’s passing (“Great man. I loved him for real. Im completely broken. God bless him,” Tweeted Chance the Rapper), a handful of terrible trolls out there are blamng Grande for what has transpired. They somehow think the singer is responsible for Miller’s addiction and for driving him to this fatal place due to their split. In the wake of this tragedy and upon seeing what these awful people were writing on her Instagram page, Grande disabled Comments for a period of time. She appears to have now turned them back on. And if she is checking, we sincerely hope she sees that the supporters out there far, far, FAR outweight the misguided haters. “The amount of tweets blaming Ariana Grande for what happened to Mac Miller is disgusting, his addiction and lack of help is what drove this to happen, don’t point the finger and blame,” wrote on fan. And another chimed in as follows: “Just noticed Ariana Grande disabled comments on her Instagram account after a barrage of Mac Miller-related comments. Recognize the true problem here, rather than using someone else as a scapegoat & continuing the cycle. All so sad & nauseating.” Following Mller’s aforementioned crash and DUI arrest, someone on the Internet dared to blame Grande for the rapper’s fate. She wasn’t having it. “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be,” clapped back the singer, adding: “I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming / blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s— together is a very major problem.” That is oh so true. And also so not the point right now. A young man is dead at the age of 26. It’s a tragedy. This is especially the case when you consider what Miller said in a documentary a few years ago: “I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess who can’t even get out of his house. Overdosing is just not cool. You don’t go down in history because you overdose. You just die.” May he rest in peace. View Slideshow: 33 Musicians Who Died Too Young

DING! DING! DING! It was on between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj at a New York Fashion Week party on Friday night. And we mean this literally. The artists got into a physical altercation. Both stars showed up at the Harper's Bazaar's shindig yesterday evening, with Cardi “aggressively approached [a] table” at which Nicki was sitting, according to TMZ. “Let me tell you something,” an onlooker alleges Cardi said to her rival, priot to lunging at Minaj and then getting pulled away by others at the party. As she was being dragged in the opposite direction, however, Cardi HURLED A SHOE at Minaj. No charges have been filed and we don't think police were even called to the scene. But the tension remains, that's for sure. Just after 12 a.m. PST this morning, Cardi wrote the following on Instagram: I've let a lot of s–t slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me, I let you attempt to stop my bags, f–k up the way I eat! “You've threatened other artists in the industry, told them if they work with me you'll stop f–kin with them!! I let you talk big s–t about me!! “I've worked hard and come too far to let anybody f*** with my success!!!! Bitches talk about all that s**** in they raps but in real life are p***y.” Insiders claimed that Cardi didn't intend on really fighting with Nicki, just on confronting her about lies Minaj had supposedly been spreading about her. While she was being taken away, an elbow slammed Cardi in the face and gave her a noticeable lump. Pretty crazy stuff, huh? Here is Cardi's full statement: And you catch watch footage of the near-brawl here. The footage isn't totally clear, but you can get a clear idea of how nutty things got.

Source: Sean Zanni / Getty Cardi B has been making “beat that chick up” music since the beginning of her career so it should be no surprise that she is completely about that action. Over the weekend, Cardi B made her New York Fashion Week debut by attending the Harper’s Bazaar ‘ICONS’ event at The Plaza Hotel. She was dressed in a beautiful red ball gown, stunning jewelry and her hair pulled back into an elegant ponytail. Who would have known that she was dressed to beat the brakes off of somebody? On this night, Cardi B was not the only raptress in attendance. Nicki Minaj, who behind the scenes is her arch nemesis, was also at the Harper’s Bazaar soiree. It’s unclear how it all got started, who started it or why, but Cardi B ended up almost getting into a physical altercation with Nicki Minaj. From various videos that were posted, Cardi attempted to get at Nicki as best she could but the Barb was protected by security. There are rumors that Nicki’s friend, Rah Ali of Love and Hip Hop New York, defended her and actually got physical with Cardi. However, there aren’t any photos or videos to really support that theory. What we do know is that Cardi B took off her shoe and flung it at Nicki when Nicki refused to back away from the corner and fight her one on one. According to Cardi, the fight has been brewing for months. Cardi took to Instagram to share her side of what happened. “I’ve let a lot of shit slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me, I let you attempt to stop my bags, fuck up the way I eat! You’ve threaten other artists in the industry, told them if they work with me you’ll stop fuckin with them!! I let you talk big shit about me! I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped the plea!! But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of daughter, is when all bets are fuckin off!! I’ve worked too hard and come too fuckin far to let anybody fuck with my success!! Bitches talk all that shit in they raps but in real life pussy! This shit really is for entertainment!!” Regardless of which side of the beef you fall on, there’s no denying that Cardi B walks it like she talks it. To celebrate her being real about hers, here’s a playlist of songs where Cardi B tells us she’s about that action! Cardi B – Bodak Yellow “Now she says she gon’ do what to who? / Let’s find out and see / Cardi B, you know where I’m at / You know where I be” Cardi B – Foreva “Ran down on that bitch twice / Ran down on that bitch twice / You know me I be with whatever / If a bitch beef with me we gon’ beef foreva” Cardi B – “Pull Up” “Hella fake, you better pull up on me / I hope you feel the same when you see my face, you better pull up on me / Ain’t no backin’ down, prepared to shake, you better pull up on me / Now you wanna be my friend, no, you ain’t safe, you better pull up, homie” Cardi B – “Pop Off” “Who wanna pop off? / Who wanna start war? / You talkin’ shit? / I’m takin’ tops off / Jeans, off / Weaves, off / Rings, off / Everythin’, off” Cardi B – “Get Up 10” “Just ’cause I been on the road don’t mean I been on the run / And you gon’ have to learn to hold your tongue or hold the gun / And we all know you ain’t that type / I smack you and the bitch that you act like” G-Eazy ft. Cardi B – “No Limit” “Can you stop with all the subs? / Bitch I ain’t Jared / If you really want some smoke /You can pull up, you can get it” Migos ft. Cardi B and Nicki Minaj – “Motorsport” “Why would I hop in some beef / When I could just hop in a Porsche?/ You heard she gon’ do what from who? / That’s not a reliable source / So tell me, have you seen her / Let me wrap my weave up” Cardi B – Red Barz “Got ’em all scared, I ain’t even strike yet / Wire up jaws when I swing if the mic stretch” Cardi B ft. Offset – “Lick” “Lookin’ like I caught a lick / Run up on me, you get hit / And all my bitches with the shits / Bronx, New York, gangsta bitch” Cardi B – “Bronx Season” “Now how much times do I gotta prove these niggas wrong? / And how much times I gotta show these bitches I ain’t soft?”

Source: Courtesy of Converse / Courtesy of Converse If anyone in the industry keeps it real, it’s Tyler, The Creator . And beyond his blunt realness, he’s also known to be quite the perfectionist with his music–so it should come as no surprised that he’s analyzed everything right down to the sound of his voice. In an interview with GQ , the California native admits that he doesn’t think his voice fits in with the sound of mainstream music. Tyler’s explanation comes in response to a question about why isn’t he bigger on the radio. He delves into his idea, explaining: “I hate my voice and I think—it’s not a full thought or theory yet—but I think there are certain voices that can make it into a mainstream world because of the tone that they’re in,” he breaks down. “People like Jay , ‘Ye , Drake , you know, Kenny [ Kendrick Lamar ]. It’s a world that their voice lives in. It’s not too high and squeaky, and it’s not too low and bassy, it’s not too abrasive and raspy.” Though The Creator doesn’t think his voice particularly fits into the world of mainstream music, he still wants to understand what makes those voices “work,” and how he can join in on the fun. “I’m still trying to figure out the science behind it. When I do, I’ll let you know, but I definitely don’t have that voice. And I f**king wish that I did” he says. Going back to one of the artists he mentions above, Tyler talks about his longtime idol and reveals the fact that he really did cry to a song off of Kanye’s new album Ye. He goes into detail about the track “Violent Crimes” and explains why it made him cry saying, “I always talk about chords and probably sound like a f**king dork, but since I was f**king 4 years old. I would always say it was a slant or it went up, ’cause I didn’t know what chords were, but it was a thing that music did that I just felt in my f**king body.”
