The Case of the Missing Iranian Nuke Scientist

One video shows a man who may well be Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri claiming that he was abducted by Americans and is now being held in Tuscon, Arizona—in which case, whoever kidnapped him should make sure he has the right papers. Another video features a clearer image of someone who could be the same missing scientist, but this time he says he’s in school in Arizona. What gives? The BBC gave this mystery a closer look on Tuesday.

U.N. nuclear chief pushes Iran on deal

BERLIN (Reuters) – The U.N. nuclear watchdog chief urged Iran on Friday to accept an offer to process its enriched uranium abroad by the end of 2009, and advised Western powers not to impose further sanctions on Tehran. Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said a plan brokered by the IAEA in which Iran would send low-enriched uranium to Russia and France for conversion into fuel for a Tehran medical reactor was a rare chance to defuse mistrust over its nuclear program.

UN inspectors visit once-secret Iranian site

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — U.N. inspectors entered a once-secret uranium enrichment facility with bunker-like construction and heavy military protection that raised Western suspicions about the extent and intent of Iran's nuclear program. The visit Sunday by the four-member International Atomic Energy Agency team, reported by state media, was the first independent look inside the planned nuclear fuel lab, a former ammunition dump burrowed into the treeless hills south of Tehran and only publicly disclosed last month
