Source: CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / Getty Despite what our bonehead “president” and his army of lame Republicans say, climate change R E A L. Companies, for the most part, have been trying to figure out how they can help reduce their carbon footprints. PlayStation announced that will be teaming up with the United Nations to make their next console eco-friendly. Announced via the companies blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President & CEO, Jim Ryan will be joining leaders in the gaming industry at the UN Climate Summit. Through a new partnership called the Playing for the Planet alliance, they will all make formal commitments to help contribute to the efforts. Ryan announced that the company will be continuing efforts it started with the PlayStation 4 but taking things a step further with the PS5 . The next-generation console will give owners if they choose to put the console in standby mode at a much lower power consumption than the previous model. Per PlayStation: At SIE, we have made substantial commitments and efforts to reduce the power consumption of the PS4 by utilizing efficient technologies such as System-on-a-Chip architecture integrating a high-performance graphics processor, die shrink, power scaling, as well as energy-saving modes such as Suspend-to-RAM. For context, we estimate the carbon emissions we have avoided to date already amount to almost 16 million metric tons, increasing to 29 million metric tons over the course of the next 10 years (which equals the CO2 emissions for the nation of Denmark in 2017). I am also very pleased to announce the next-generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W). If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes. The new power-saving setting will be an optional choice for users. Sony is hoping that people who buy the console will decide to think of the planet when powering on their PlayStation 5 consoles. A character key is noted below. “Like a lot of people, I had a vague idea that something bad was happening here on Earth, but I didn’t really realize how insane our climate crisis is and how screwed humanity is about to be,” says Lil Dicky. “It’s full-on crazy! If we don’t get our act together now, and change a lot about our fundamental behavior, Earth will become unlivable alarmingly soon. Why did it take me so long to get wind of this? I feel like everybody on the planet should be talking about this 24/7. But that’s not the case. So I wanted to make the most entertaining and epic piece of content possible, to get everyone aware and talking. Because it’s now or never… Let’s save the Earth! We love the Earth!!!!” In collaboration with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF), a portion of profits from the song, music video, and merchandise will be allocated to select nonprofits identified by LDF as being on the front lines of implementing solutions to climate change. These organizations support those who are helping communities transition to 100% renewable energy, protecting critical ecosystems and wildlife, and supporting regenerative farming practices. They include the Quick Response Fund for Nature, the Shark Conservation Fund, the Solutions Project, the Global Greengrants Fund and the Carbon Cycle Institute. We invite everyone to sign the Global Deal for Nature petition to take a stand for our planet.” “Bringing Dave’s wonderful vision to life was not only creatively rewarding for all of us involved, but it quickly became evident during its creation that we had an incredible responsibility to empower our generation to rally together and reverse the effects of climate change,” says Nigel Tierney, director of the “Earth” video and Head of Content for RYOT. In addition to the song and video, the “Earth” project includes an interactive website “We Love the Earth”, which aims to educate the public on the realities of climate change. The website was created by Lil Dicky and RYOT, and in partnership with Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to feature behind-the-scenes and making-of content, interactive tutorials, merchandise printed on sustainable materials, and more. Akinyele Says He Has No Income; Fired From King Of Diamonds Strip Club Rapper Akinyele Adams has filed for bankruptcy after two landlords tried to collect on the more than $22,000 in back rent he owes, Bossip has learned. The rapper, known for his 1996 hit “Put It In Your Mouth,” quietly filed for bankruptcy in Florida last month, claiming that he has no income or property, but owes $500,000 to $1 million. He said he’s so broke, that he didn’t have the money to pay the $335 bankruptcy filing fee and asked the court to waive it. But, astonishingly, Adams’ case was dismissed because he didn’t bother putting his social security number on the filing. That means the landlord of the swanky Flamingo III apartment complex can now move to sue the 43-year-old, and evict him and 26-year-old gal pal Daffini Evans from their $3,000 a month pad. The landlord, MCZ/Cetnrum Flamingo 111, says in documents challenging the bankruptcy that Adams hasn’t paid the rent in months and owes $16,000. Another landlord, Buena Hora LLC, said he owes them nearly $7,000 in rent for an apartment at the Barbizon Beach Club Condo on Ocean Drive, and hasn’t paid the $2,300 a month rent since last November. When his rap career dried up, the serial rent-dodger began managing the King Of Diamonds strip club in Miami – even saying that he owned the place . But he has cut ties with the mammary mecca, saying in his bankruptcy filing that he’s unemployed. “I was fired from my position at work without cause or reason, therefore making it virtually impossible to survive at this point,” Adams wrote in court papers. Adams may have to come up with a new way of making money. More than 30 dancers sued Adams and King Of Diamonds over claims that the club financially exploited them. We’ve reached out to Adams for comment.
Father And Seven Children Pass Away In Carbon Monoxide Leak Truly sad story. A Maryland father attempting to provide heat for his family after the electricity in their home had been shut off passed away along with all seven of his children after the in-home generator he was using malfunctioned, sending fatal carbon monoxide fumes coursing through the house. Via DailyMail : A Maryland father and his seven children were discovered dead Monday afternoon from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a generator they were using after the power company had cut off their electricity, according to relatives. The tragic incident took place in Princess Anne – a community of 3,260 in Somerset County, Maryland. Princess Anne police stated in a press release to Daily Mail Online that no foul play was suspected in the deaths. Officers who responded to the home in the 30500 block of Antioch Avenue entered the residence and found the eight family members dead inside. Bonnie and Lloyd Edwards, encountered outside the home by a reporter from The Associated Press, identified themselves as the mother and stepfather of Rodney Todd, 36, whom they identified as the adult who died. They said Todd had seven children, including five girls and two boys. Lloyd Edwards revealed that Delmarva Power had cut off the electricity to the house because of an outstanding bill. Edwards said, ‘to keep his seven children warm, [Todd] bought a generator. It went out and the carbon monoxide consumed them.’ Truly tragic story. Our thoughts are with the remaining family at this time.
