On last night’s season finale of Survivor: Philippines , Denise Stapley took home the show’s grand prize, brewing out Michael Skupin and former Facts of Life star Lisa Whelchel  in the process. “In Iowa, you can do a lot with this,” said host Jeff Probst upon presenting the check to Stapley, who referred to the win as “life changing.” Dawn – who actually played on all three tribes throughout the season – was voted the champion by a jury of her eight peers. Whelchel, the actress behind Blair Warmer in the 1980s sitcom, flew through the show with only two castaways aware of her identity. Florida State Prosecutors Charge 13 People With Hazing Death Of FAMU Drum Major Robert Champion

State Of Florida Charges 13 In Hazing Death Of FAMU Drum Major These “kids” could do up to six years behind bars for taking part in the hazing of Robert Champion . Florida prosecutors on Wednesday charged 13 individuals in connection with the hazing death of a Florida A&M University drum major last November, in a case that has heightened scrutiny of violent rituals on college campuses across the country. Lawson Lamar, the state attorney for Orange County, said at a news conference in Orlando that 11 of the people face felony hazing charges, which carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison. The remainder face misdemeanor hazing charges. Mr. Lawson said he would not release the names of those charged, since most of them have not yet been arrested. The death of the drum major, 26-year-old Robert Champion, was “nothing short of an American tragedy,” he said. “We know that Robert Champion died as a result of being beaten” and “his death is not linked to one sole strike but is attributed to multiple blows.” Mr. Champion collapsed aboard a bus in Orlando after a hazing incident following a football game against rival Bethune-Cookman University. The medical examiner’s office in Orlando ruled the death a homicide, caused by internal bleeding resulting from blunt-force trauma. Mr. Champion, who was previously healthy, died within an hour of the hazing incident, according to the medical examiner’s report. An autopsy found “extensive contusions of his chest, arms, shoulder and back,” the report said. In a statement released after the charges, Solomon Badger, chairman of the Florida A&M board of trustees, and university president James Ammons said, “We are vigorously working to eradicate hazing from FAMU and doing everything within our power to ensure an incident like this never happens again. Our hearts and our prayers are with the Champion family and the extended FAMU family as we all continue to deal with this tragedy.” What a terrible tragedy. These charges were vital in order for colleges to take these situations seriously. Robert Champion should not have died. May he rest in peace. Source More On Bossip! Melissa Gilbert Hospitalized on Dancing With the Stars

Melissa Gilbert suffered a scary spill Monday, but will be okay. The actress, who wound up in the hospital after she fell during the paso doble on Dancing With the Stars last night, offered an update as to her status. “I’m alright. Mild concussion and whiplash,” she tweeted in the hours following the spill. “Very soon I’ll be safely home resting and being taken care of.” Clearly there were no hard feelings toward her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, as Melissa later wrote: “@Maksim you are my champion. I adore you.” Melissa Gilbert & Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Paso Doble (DWTS) Week 4 At the after party on Monday night, the condition of Gilbert, who scored 22 points for the routine, was definitely on the minds of her fellow competitors. “We hope she is OK,” a concerned Maria Menounos told E! News. “I was really sad because she was really excited to go out tonight and celebrate.” “Hopefully she is alright,” added young Roshon Fegan. Her status as far as competing going forward is unclear, but tonight’s results show should provide further updates, we’re hoping. Get well, Melissa!

Nike NFL Uniforms: Hit or Miss?

The world of fashion met the world of professional sports in Brooklyn today, as some of the NFL’s biggest stars gathered with representatives from Nike and Commissioner Roger Goodell to unveil new uniforms for the league. Dubbed the Nike Elite 51, the shirts and pants are meant to be more elastic and lighter. As you can see by this Chicago Bears mockup, the actual look varies little: “The performance is so important for the athletes,” Goodell said. “What we tried to do is innovate. Even if the look doesn’t change, there’s innovation… There’ll be more to come.” Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens, Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers and Wes Welker of the New England Patriots were among the stars who modeled the new uniforms on stage. Said Super Bowl hero Victor Cruz of the Super Bowl of the champion New York Giants: “They’re tight. You can’t get pulled or snagged on. That’s the biggest thing for me: making sure that I’m sleek and I’m fast and I can’t be grabbed or held.”
