Reasonable Doubt: Jay-Z Sus-ly Says He Spoke To Kaepernick Before Signing NFL Deal — But Colin’s Camp Claims THIS

Source: Shareif Ziyadat / Michael Zagaris/San Francisco 49ers/ / Getty Colin Kaepernick’s Camp Denies Speaking With Jay-Z Before New NFL Deal We’ve known Jay-Z to be many things over the years, but is a liar one of them? According to Colin Kaepernick ‘s camp, that may be the case. After news broke on Wednesday that Hov signed a new partnership with the NFL , folks automatically assumed that the rap mogul was undercutting Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling protest. However, Jay discredited the claims during a meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at Roc Nation’s NYC offices, saying: “There’s two parts of protest: the protest, and then there’s a company or individual saying ‘I hear you, what do we do next?’ For me it’s about actionable items, what are we gonna do about it?” Both Jay and Goodell also claimed to have spoken to Kap before inking the deal to help the NFL with entertainment and social justice issues. But according to Kaepernick’s attorney, Mark Geragos, the rap mogul did not talk to the former NFL prior to signing the deal. Even Kapernick’s girlfriend Nessa spoke out about the claims, adding that Jay “NEVER included him in the discussion”. THIS is a lie. COLIN never spoke to Jay-Z and NFL ahead of that deal being done. They NEVER included him in any discussion https://t.co/TWmoXS4JVJ pic.twitter.com/2bjSIEtnjQ — NESSA (@nessnitty) August 14, 2019 And what does Hov have to say about the backlash? TMZ reports: “Jay-Z’s camp tells us that he he has absolutely spoken to Kap within the last 48 hours, however … that was NOT before Jay agreed to his new partnership with the NFL. It’s unclear what they discussed, but we’re told this was not a case of Jay checking in with Colin for approval. It couldn’t have been … the deal was already signed. To be clear … we’re told the question posed to Jay during the media event was simply whether he had spoken to Colin — NOT whether he had talked to Colin about the partnership.” Chiiiiillle. Who do you believe?

Ray Rice: I’ll Donate My ENTIRE SALARY to Charity If An NFL Team Signs Me!

Back in 2014, shocking footage of then-Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his wife, Janay Palmer , was obtained by TMZ. Ray Rice-Janay Palmer Arrest Video Though league officials were previously aware that a violent incident involving Rice and Palmer had occurred, the three-time Pro Bowler was initially punished with a modest two-game suspension. However, when the footage of Rice brutally knocking out his then-fiancee went public, the Ravens terminated his contract, and league commissioner Roger Goodell announced a change in NFL policy with regard to domestic violence charges. Rice has made efforts to atone for his horrific act, but it seems that the incident may have effectively ended his career. Now, Rice is making what seems to be a last-ditch effort to get signed by an NFL team in time for the 2016 season. In an interview with USA Today , the 29-year-old pledged to donate his entire salary to charity if he lands a new contract: “All the scrutiny that I’ve got, it was deserved, because domestic violence is a horrible thing,” Rice says. “Me donating my salary is something that’ll be from the heart for me. I only want to play football so I can end it the right way for my kids and for the people that really believed in me.” He added that the pledge is not being offered as an incentive, but rather as proof to the league and its fans of how much he’s changed: “I’m not saying I’d be [donating the salary] to get on the field, but it’s something that will show where my heart is. My heart is about finishing the right way and helping people along the way.” As a seventh-year veteran, Rice’s minimum salary would be $885,000. Having not set foot on an NFL field for the past two seasons, Rice stated in a recent interview that he’s aware of the fact that his window of opportunity for a comeback is closing rapidly. So this may not be Rice’s attempt to bribe his way back into the league, as some detractors have claimed, but it’s certainly an act of desperation from a man who knows he has few options left.

Equal Opportunity: NFL To Implement A “Rooney Rule” To Help Women Get Executive Jobs

NFL To Adopt A “Rooney Rule” To Help Women Get Jobs As Executives The National Football Association has long been on a mission to appear more inclusive to minorities and they are now taking steps to make women feel welcome as well according to NYDailyNews … NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday at the NFL Women’s Summit that the league will institute a Rooney Rule for women seeking executive positions. Teams will have to interview at least one woman for all executive roles. The Rooney Rule, named after Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who’s chairman of the league’s diversity committee, is an edict established in 2003 which requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for a head-coaching vacancy. The rule has come under scrutiny for failing to result in an increased number of minority head coaches; of the league’s 32 teams, there are just six minority head coaches. Teams have been accused of interviewing minority candidates simply to comply with the rule while already knowing they were hiring a white candidate. The league has already seen a slight increase in the women who have been hired as coaches this year… The Bills hired the NFL’s first full-time assistant coach last month, Kathryn Smith, as special teams quality control coach. That move came after Jen Welter coached the Cardinals’ inside linebackers during Arizona’s training camp last summer, while Sarah Thomas became the league’s first female official this past season. We’re sure some neanderthal will find some dumbazz reasons that this rule shouldn’t be in place, but the fact is that women are more than capable of contributing to the NFL, and their thoughts and energy could most certainly help a team looking to win a Super Bowl championship. Bill Simmons: PISSED at ESPN For Shutting Down Grantland

Back in May, ESPN fired Bill Simmons unexpectedly, thus forcing sports fans everywhere (read: Boston) to go to Gisele Bundchen’s Twitter page in order to read the boastful ramblings of someone who regularly fellates Tom Brady. We kid Simmons, but he’s really one of the funniest and most insightful sports journalists working today, and he deserved better than to be unceremoniously canned in very public fashion. Now, ESPN has twisted the knife by shutting down Grantland, the irreverent sports and pop culture site that Simmons created in 2011. Many of the site’s writers stated that they found out they’d been laid off only when they saw the network’s tweets about the site being suspended. In a statement, ESPN said that it plans to honor the contracts of all current Grantland writers and hopes to hire many of them to write for other ESPN platforms. So while several casualties of the move have lamented the end of the site, most of them have kept any outrage they may be feeling in check. But not Simmons: “I loved everyone I worked with at G and loved what we built. Watching good/kind/talented people get treated so callously = simply appalling,” Simmons tweeted moments ago.  The 46-year-old journalist has butted heads with ESPN many times over the course of his career. He was most recently suspended by the network last year for calling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a “liar.” His termination a few months later is believed to be the result of his tense relationship with network brass. In a statement, ESPN claimed that the decision to shut down Grantland has nothing to do with Simmons or the nature of the site’s content, but was simply a result of the need to “direct our time and energy going forward to projects that we believe will have a broader and more significant impact across our enterprise.” We’re sure Simmons will have more to say on the topic in the very near future.

Tom Brady: NFL Upholds Suspension, Accuses QB of Destroying Evidence

Good news for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys: Your teams won’t have to worry about facing a title-defending Tom Brady early in the 2015 NFL season. (Although frankly, we doubt that’ll save you, Jacksonville.) NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has decided to uphold Brady’s four-game suspension that was handed down as a result of the quarterback’s alleged role in last year’s DeflateGate scandal . Brady and the Patriots have appealed, and even level-headed modern-day Solomon  Donald Trump believes Brady was treated unfairly , but in a move that’s surprised many, the league is sticking with its initial decision. In a statement released today, the NFL stated that one of the reasons it’s upholding the suspension is the belief that Brady intentionally concealed evidence by destroying a cell phone that was requested by investigators. “At the hearing, Mr. Brady testified that it is his practice to destroy (or to give to his assistant to destroy) his cellphone and SIM cards when he gets a new cell phone,” the statement reads. Of course, this is a common practice among public figures; the phone was destroyed before investigators requested it, and there’s no league rule against destruction of personal property. So needless to say, the appeal process is far from over, and the league will now likely face off against Brady and NFLPA in court. Let’s hope it ends better than the last time a Patriot went to court .

Fair Or Foul? CBS Says NO To Rihanna Performance At Ravens/Steelers Game

Too much domestic violence drama to go throwing Rih into the mix? CBS Cancels Rihanna Opening Segment Due To Prior Domestic Incident Could this be considered a form of victim-blaming ? In an apparent effort to minimize fallout from the Ray Rice scandal , CBS has decided to forego a game-opening sequence featuring Rihanna for tonight’s Steelers vs. Ravens showdown. Via TMZ : CBS has pulled the plug on the musical opening of tonight’s “Thursday Night Football” — and it’s very clear it’s because they don’t want to feature Rihanna in the midst of the Ray Rice scandal. The opening features Rihanna performing a version of her hit “Run This Town” — while Don Cheadle introduces the teams and dramatically asks who will “run this town” when the game is over. But with the Ray Rice scandal in full swing, it’s clear CBS didn’t want to feature another celebrity who was involved in a high-profile domestic violence incident. CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus says, “We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone coverage.” The musical opening will be replaced by a discussion of Roger Goodell’s recent comments about the Ray Rice incident. Do you think that CBS made the right decision…or are they making an even BIGGER blunder by cutting her from the show?
