VIDEO: Well, Cosmopolis Looks Pretty Much Amazing [NSFW]

Move over, Prometheus : David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson are here with a 30-second foreign teaser for Cosmopolis , their adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel about a young billionaire’s dark, demented and all-around catastrophic 24-hour Manhattan odyssey. And it looks amazing. In fairness, it’s basically only 30 NSFW seconds of hyper-edited visuals, but what visuals: Times Square overrun with dinosaurs, Pattinson’s Eric Packer shooting a hole through his hand, limousine trysts and pee breaks, and all the quintessentially Cronenbergian glimpses of the perverse in the quotidian. Niftier still is the dialogue introducing the teaser, clipped in DeLillo’s own trademark staccato, hinting at a spiritual fidelity to the flawed but sui generis source material. It just looks and feels right . We’ll see how the other 100 minutes or so can compare later this spring, when Cosmopolis presumably debuts (and lands an American distributor) at Cannes. Brett Ratner Would Direct Midnight Run Sequel That Will Probably Never Happen

There’s no script, no budget and no confirmed Charles Grodin to complement the “buddy” part of the “buddy comedy” formula that worked so well 24 years ago, but that’s not stopping the zeitgeist from panicking over the current state of Midnight Run 2 . To wit, Brett Ratner is now linked up as the director. Like we’ve never heard that before . Everybody calm down! Not that it doesn’t get somewhat worse, as Mike Fleming reports at Deadline: The studio and [De Niro’s production company] Tribeca put the wheels in motion on the sequel early last year, when they hired Tim Dowling to write a draft. [David] Elliot & [Paul] Lovett, who were writers on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra , and are working on the sequel to Four Brothers (which they also scripted) will continue the storyline of Walsh, the ex-Chicago cop who, when last seen, set free the turncoat mob accountant The Duke at LAX and walked away with a wad of cash he’d use to open a coffee shop. So, yeah: Still early. Anyway, to recap, De Niro played bounty hunter Walsh and Grodin played Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukas in the 1988 film, which was written with such profane, caustic fervor by George Gallo and directed by Martin Brest in his follow-up to Beverly Hills Cop . All of which raises a few questions: Would the retired Grodin reprise his role? (He’s said he’s open to it, but he’s also 77 next month and doesn’t exactly need the paycheck.) What is it with Ratner wanting sequels to Brest classics? (If it’s not Beverly Hills Cop 4 , then it’s Midnight Run 2 . Just give him Son of Gigli already and let’s be done with it!) And can Elliot and Lovett find a place for Yaphet Kotto to return as well? Because there is no Midnight Run 2 without perpetually vexed FBI agent Alonso Mosley delivering some serious comeuppance. Paul Rudd Won’t Appear In Jason Segel’s ‘Muppet’ Movie

‘I wish that I was. It’s all rumor,’ star tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Paul Rudd Photo: MTV News With Jason Segel helming a spankin’ new “Muppet” flick , fans have been buzzing that many of the funnyman’s guffaw-inducing pals would show up for the fun. One story that has been making the rounds was that Segel’s “I Love You, Man” co-star Paul Rudd was slated to appear as an iPhone-obsessed puppet pal of Segel’s character. However, when MTV News caught up with Rudd recently, the star crushed the collective dreams of Judd Apatow acolytes everywhere, explaining that a cameo alongside Kermit’s crew is just not in the cards right now. “I wish that I was. It’s all rumor,” Rudd confided at the Gotham Awards last week. “I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason but I think there was some things that happened and I don’t know if I’m gonna get to do it.” As many would be, he’s totally torn up about missing out on the Muppet-fest. “It blows actually,” he pouted playfully. “It really sucks.” Up next, fans can catch Rudd alongside Jennifer Aniston as a broke couple that decide to take up residence at a commune in the Apatow-helmed “Wanderlust.” But after that, Rudd quipped that he wanted another crack at the Muppet franchise, and even came up with a few inspired titles for a sequel to Segel’s project. “I’m hoping for the ‘Muppet Movie 2.’ I’m playing Charles Grodin in ‘Muppet 2: Electric Waterloo?’ Beaker-loo?” he joked, before offering a truly game-changing suggestion: “Muppet Movie 2: The Muppets Are Still Taking Manhattan.” Even with Rudd officially out the mix, the confirmed lineup of guest stars should pack the film with plenty of laughs. Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Crystal and Alan Arkin are all slated to appear in the project. Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds Reunite For ‘Most Wanted’

The ‘Proposal’ co-stars will reteam with the movie’s screenwriter, director and producers for new action comedy. By Josh Wigler Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images After Sandra Bullock shared a titillating kiss with “Proposal” co-star Ryan Reynolds’ wife, Scarlett Johansson, at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, the two will reteam for “Most Wanted,” a new action comedy from Universal Pictures. Based on a pitch from “Proposal” screenwriter Pete Chiarelli, “Most Wanted” tells the story of a criminal suspect (Bullock) who is apprehended and escorted to a court hearing by an FBI agent (Reynolds). On their way to court, the two are attacked in an ambush and are ultimately forced to go on the run. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Most Wanted” will strike a similar tone to “Midnight Run,” Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin’s 1988 comedy about a bounty hunter (De Niro) tasked with hunting down a mob accountant (Grodin). In addition to Bullock, Reynolds and Chiarelli, other members from the “Proposal” creative team joining up for “Most Wanted” include director Anne Fletcher and producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Reynolds is also executive-producing the movie alongside his Dark Trick Films partner Jonathan Komack-Martin. “Most Wanted” marks Bullock’s first major casting announcement since winning an Academy Award for “The Blind Side.” Reynolds, on the other hand, has been quite busy: The actor is currently shooting a role as cocky fighter pilot-turned-superhero Hal Jordan in director Martin Campbell’s “Green Lantern,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name. He’s also committed to “Deadpool,” 20th Century Fox’s spinoff of last year’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and “R.I.P.D.,” based on the Dark Horse comics series about an undead police department. Additionally, Reynolds is slated to film “The Change-Up” alongside “Up in the Air” actor Jason Bateman. 5 Surefire Roles to Give Charles Grodin His Proper Comeback

Hey, so that Midnight Run sequel you haven’t been waiting for is really happening, huh? Deadline reports that original co-star Charles Grodin — who had been left out of the initial sequel plans — has been contacted and would likely consider returning. Grodin hasn’t appeared on screen since 1994 — and no, his brief showing in the forgettable Zach Braff film, The Ex doesn’t count — instead spending his time being a parent and volunteering as an advocate for poor, first-time offenders. Still, God love Midnight Run , but if Grodin is ready to return to feature films, shouldn’t he have something better planned than an unnecessary sequel? Here are five roles he should consider.
