Punk Goes Twilight: Here’s Green Day’s Breaking Dawn Music Video To Make You Feel Old

Here’s something to add to the pile of things in life that’ll make you feel old: Green Day ‘s new music video for “The Forgotten,” their single from the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack. You read that right: The punk rockers, who once repped a generation of slackers with songs about masturbating and smoking weed, are now in bed with Twilight . Not that Green Day’s mainstream streak is anything new; they’ve played to the masses since making it big on MTV in the mid-90s, they have their own Broadway musical, and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong ( who recently checked into rehab ) just guest-starred on The Voice , any of which would be reasons alone for a revocation of that punk card. Suffice to say the Green Day that got their start at Berkeley, CA’s gloriously dingy 924 Gilman decades ago isn’t quite the same Green Day singing about Bella Swan’s undead transformation into a vampire as faux-home movies of Edward Cullen playing the piano for his monster baby play in the background. Because that’s basically what the music video for “The Forgotten” is. Sample lyric: “Don’t look away from the arms of love.” On the contrary — look away! Look away! Get More: Green Day , The Forgotten , Music , More Music Videos The Twilight films have historically nabbed pretty great and surprising artists for their soundtracks, so this isn’t a stretch for the franchise. It’s just, y’know, WHAT HAPPENED TO GREEN DAY? Sigh. Joining Green Day on the Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack are indie faves Passion Pit, St. Vincent, and POP ETC. Full track listing: Passion Pit, “Where I Come From” Ellie Goulding, “Bittersweet” Green Day, “The Forgotten” Feist, “Fire in the Water” The Boom Circuits, “Everything and Nothing” St. Vincent, “The Antidote” POP ETC, “Speak Up” Iko, “Heart of Stone” A Boy and His Kite, “Cover Your Tracks” James Vincent McMorrow, “Ghosts” Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed, “All I’ve Ever Needed” Reeve Carney, “New for You” Christina Perri, “A Thousand Years (Part Two)” Carter Burwell, “Plus Que Ma Prope Vie” If anyone needs me I’ll be in my room listening to Kerplunk on repeat, longing desperately for the ’90s of my youth. Bryan Singer To Direct Prequel Sequel ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’

The most interesting part of Bryan Singer ‘s return to the X-Men franchise he helped launch is that in directing X-Men: Days Of Future Past ,” the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s 1962-set prequel X-Men: First Class , he’ll have helmed films in different sub-series timelines within the same franchise. The only other example akin to this sort of thing might be in the James Bond universe, with directors like Guy Hamilton, Lewis Gilbert, John Glen, and Martin Campbell helming different Bond pics with different 007 actors in the role. Singer directed 2000’s X-Men and 2003’s X2 to great commercial success before handing over the reigns to Brett Ratner for X-3: The Last Stand , but he remained onboard the franchise as Vaughn stepped up to direct First Class , which he produced. He’ll also produce Days of Future Past , which is set to bring back stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence and already has a release date of July 18, 2014. At this point Singer is uniquely invested in the X-Men franchise, and now that he’s done with Jack The Giant Killer he’ll turn his attentions back to the mutant comic book adaptation series. While he’s a safe choice for the directing gig, his last superhero outing, however, was the disappointing Superman Returns . Thoughts, Movieliners? [ Deadline ]

Geoffrey Rush Will Lend His Voice to Green Lantern

Bertie isn’t the only one with a voice. Deadline reports that Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush will lend his unmistakable pipes to Green Lantern as Tomar-Re, the alien scientist who helps train Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Between this bit of voice casting and the Warner Bros. acknowledgement that the first trailer for Martin Campbell’s hopeful summer blockbuster wasn’t very good , the Green Lantern Comeback Tour is off to a strong start. ‘Green Lantern’: The Movie That Could Have Been

Superhero flick could have been a Quentin Tarantino movie starring Jack Black or T.I. By Eric Ditzian Photo: DC Comics “The ring, it chose you,” Ryan Reynolds is told in the new “Green Lantern” trailer . That is true. People ‘s Sexiest Man Reynolds did finally land the role of Hal Jordan in the DC Comics adaptation. But the path that led to his casting was a circuitous one. Did you know Jack Black was once considered for the part? That the flick was once set to shoot in Australia? That Quentin Tarantino was actually offered the director’s job? Oh, what could have been … Kevin Smith, for example, was once approached to helm a Green Lantern movie. Clearly, that would have been a more comedic take on the property. As would the installment that Black was eyeing. “It would have been a comedy, and I don’t know, maybe they didn’t want to go that way with the character,” Black told MTV News back in 2007. “You don’t see a lot of the superheroes as comedies. Batman, Superman, Spider-man — they’re all pretty straight-up. I was going to be capturing bad guys with green, giant prophylactics. Some funny stuff.” As part of a potential Justice League film, the character was rumored to have been offered to everyone from Common to T.I. to Tyrese Gibson. And for a solo flick, “Everwood” creator Greg Berlanti was once tapped to direct, while “Watchmen” helmer Zack Snyder and Tarantino were approached for the gig. “I was offered the ‘Green Lantern,’ ” Tarantino revealed to MTV News. “Not since it’s been a script, but just like, ‘Hey we own the “Green Lantern.” Would you like it?’ ” By early ’09, Warner Bros. had announced that “Green Lantern” would hit theaters on December 17, 2010. Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”) would direct and the film would shoot in Australia with a reported budget of $150 million. But who would be Jordan? Early rumors touched on names like Ryan Gosling, Brian Austin Green , “Gossip Girl” star Matthew Settle and “Star Trek” stars Chris Pine and Anton Yelchin . The three front-runners eventually became Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Reynolds . “I did get a chance to try out for it, which was amazing to even get a chance,” Cooper said later. “Ryan Reynolds got it — who, by the way, if I was directing the movie, I would cast him. He’s perfect. He actually looks like a superhero.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Green Lantern Trailer: Iron Man Meets Elephant Man

The first Green Lantern trailer has arrived, essentially adapting the swagger and above-average-Joe heroism of Iron Man for Ryan Reynolds and his verdant, ab-hugging CGI bodysuit. Casual flings, military might, learning when and how to use your powers… You’ll know more than a few of these tropes when you see them. Let’s give director Martin Campbell and crew some credit, however, for also crafting the most hideous comics villain I’ve ever seen .

‘Green Lantern’: Everything We Know Before The Trailer Debut

Take a look back before the latest sneak peek premieres. By Eric Ditzian Ryan Reynolds Photo: Getty Images After years of what’s-taking-so-long buildup, a killer Comic-Con rollout and a pre-trailer teaser that popped up earlier this week, the first “Green Lantern” trailer is set to debut online in a few hours. That sound you hear is the MTV Movies team giggling with delight. Because it’s been a long time coming, and there’s still almost seven months to go until the DC Comics adaptation hits theaters. As we look forward to the new trailer, we’ve also been looking back at everything we already know about “Green Lantern.” Early Development The flick has journeyed through a by-now-familiar cycle of development delays and contrasting studio visions. An earlier version, for instance, established a more comedic take on the character — Hal Jordan, a fighter pilot-turned-superhero, thanks to an all-powerful ring — with Jack Black in the starring role . By the summer of 2008, though, Warner Bros. had shifted the property back to active development, and a trio of fanboy-approved writers (Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green) penned a new script. “We really spanned the whole gamut from the Silver Age through the Modern Age to Geoff Johns,” Guggenheim told us about “Lantern” comics that inspired them. “There’s a lot of different elements that are hard to coalesce, actually. Green Lantern as much as any modern-day superhero has a lot of continuity gaps and inconsistencies, and you’re wrestling with it all to make everything work.” In February 2009, word broke that “Casino Royale” director Martin Campbell was in negotiations to direct , and by that summer, three actors were reportedly competing for the Jordan role: Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Reynolds . In July, the part was handed to Reynolds . “I fell in love with the character when I met with Martin Campbell,” Reynolds told us that November. “When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has balls of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of ‘Green Lantern.’ He’s less of the director and more of a general.” The Shoot Just days into 2010, “Green Lantern” got an official green light and a production start date of March . Quickly, the rest of the cast came together: Blake Lively as Jordan love interest Carol Ferris; Mark Strong as initial Jordan mentor Sinestro; Peter Sarsgaard as villain Dr. Hector Hammond; and Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond. In a move that surprised no one, Campbell announced that the film would be converted to 3-D during post-production . Ramping up the visual-effects quotient further, it became clear that Reynolds’ suit would be a completely CG-assisted outfit, and that’s exactly what we got when images of a suited-up Reynolds debuted online . San Diego Comic-Con Warner Bros. swept into the den of pop-culture geekery this summer with one heck of a presentation: purple-hued Abin Sur encased in glass; footage of Reynolds as Jordan and Sarsgaard as Hammond; and tons of commentary from the cast and crew. “The tone is light. It has a lot of humor, but I think the relationships between all the characters are very real,” Campbell said during the Comic-Con panel . “We try to keep the action very real. … It’s my first superhero movie — unless you count James Bond.” The Run-Up to the Trailer The key question remained: When would folks not lucky enough to be in Hall H during Comic-Con get to check out “Green Lantern” footage? DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns announced that the trailer would debut in front of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” on Friday. But what about online? “I wish I could say tomorrow, but it’s not going to be tomorrow. It will be soon, though.” Johns said in October. “Technically it’s a teaser, but it’s pretty big. I don’t know the exact time, length, but it’s got more stuff in there than I would have thought for a teaser, that’s for sure.” MTV News then learned the trailer would appear online Tuesday (November 16) at 8 p.m. ET. A few days earlier, “Entertainment Tonight” aired a teaser for the trailer . We saw Reynolds transform into superhero form and unleash a giant, power-ring-enabled fist; images of the Green Lantern home planet; and Kilowog, one nasty-looking drill instructor who helps train Jordan. So what will we see in the full trailer? Whatever it is, except some heated debate. That’s what happened when the first look at Jordan’s costume debuted and, well, Reynolds expects nothing less . “There has to be a little healthy debate about it,” he told us. “I mean, that’s important. If it were just slanted one way or the other, I don’t think it would be that satisfying.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds Reunite For ‘Most Wanted’

The ‘Proposal’ co-stars will reteam with the movie’s screenwriter, director and producers for new action comedy. By Josh Wigler Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images After Sandra Bullock shared a titillating kiss with “Proposal” co-star Ryan Reynolds’ wife, Scarlett Johansson, at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, the two will reteam for “Most Wanted,” a new action comedy from Universal Pictures. Based on a pitch from “Proposal” screenwriter Pete Chiarelli, “Most Wanted” tells the story of a criminal suspect (Bullock) who is apprehended and escorted to a court hearing by an FBI agent (Reynolds). On their way to court, the two are attacked in an ambush and are ultimately forced to go on the run. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Most Wanted” will strike a similar tone to “Midnight Run,” Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin’s 1988 comedy about a bounty hunter (De Niro) tasked with hunting down a mob accountant (Grodin). In addition to Bullock, Reynolds and Chiarelli, other members from the “Proposal” creative team joining up for “Most Wanted” include director Anne Fletcher and producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Reynolds is also executive-producing the movie alongside his Dark Trick Films partner Jonathan Komack-Martin. “Most Wanted” marks Bullock’s first major casting announcement since winning an Academy Award for “The Blind Side.” Reynolds, on the other hand, has been quite busy: The actor is currently shooting a role as cocky fighter pilot-turned-superhero Hal Jordan in director Martin Campbell’s “Green Lantern,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name. He’s also committed to “Deadpool,” 20th Century Fox’s spinoff of last year’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and “R.I.P.D.,” based on the Dark Horse comics series about an undead police department. Additionally, Reynolds is slated to film “The Change-Up” alongside “Up in the Air” actor Jason Bateman. Green Lantern May Be Orange

I know they’re doing some nontraditional things with the costume for The Green Lantern , but did they really have to mess with Ryan Reynolds’s face? Our good friends at the WOW Report noticed that in a paparazzi picture snapped on the set, the actor was seen sporting a shade of fake tan that goes past “Michael Kors” and teeters on the edge of “insensitive blackface routine from Mad Men .” Take a powder, guys! The Green Lantern Has No Clothes

Slashfilm is reporting that Ryan Reynolds won’t be donning your traditional superhero costume for Green Lantern , instead wearing an Avatar -like motion capture suit that will allow the Lantern look to be overlaid as a post-production special effect.
