Punk Goes Twilight: Here’s Green Day’s Breaking Dawn Music Video To Make You Feel Old

Here’s something to add to the pile of things in life that’ll make you feel old: Green Day ‘s new music video for “The Forgotten,” their single from the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack. You read that right: The punk rockers, who once repped a generation of slackers with songs about masturbating and smoking weed, are now in bed with Twilight . Not that Green Day’s mainstream streak is anything new; they’ve played to the masses since making it big on MTV in the mid-90s, they have their own Broadway musical, and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong ( who recently checked into rehab ) just guest-starred on The Voice , any of which would be reasons alone for a revocation of that punk card. Suffice to say the Green Day that got their start at Berkeley, CA’s gloriously dingy 924 Gilman decades ago isn’t quite the same Green Day singing about Bella Swan’s undead transformation into a vampire as faux-home movies of Edward Cullen playing the piano for his monster baby play in the background. Because that’s basically what the music video for “The Forgotten” is. Sample lyric: “Don’t look away from the arms of love.” On the contrary — look away! Look away! Get More: Green Day , The Forgotten , Music , More Music Videos The Twilight films have historically nabbed pretty great and surprising artists for their soundtracks, so this isn’t a stretch for the franchise. It’s just, y’know, WHAT HAPPENED TO GREEN DAY? Sigh. Joining Green Day on the Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack are indie faves Passion Pit, St. Vincent, and POP ETC. Full track listing: Passion Pit, “Where I Come From” Ellie Goulding, “Bittersweet” Green Day, “The Forgotten” Feist, “Fire in the Water” The Boom Circuits, “Everything and Nothing” St. Vincent, “The Antidote” POP ETC, “Speak Up” Iko, “Heart of Stone” A Boy and His Kite, “Cover Your Tracks” James Vincent McMorrow, “Ghosts” Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed, “All I’ve Ever Needed” Reeve Carney, “New for You” Christina Perri, “A Thousand Years (Part Two)” Carter Burwell, “Plus Que Ma Prope Vie” If anyone needs me I’ll be in my room listening to Kerplunk on repeat, longing desperately for the ’90s of my youth. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Soundtrack Track List Revealed

Iron & Wine, Christina Perri, Theophilus London join Bruno Mars on ‘Part 1′ album due November 8. By James Montgomery Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment We already knew about Bruno Mars’ involvement in the upcoming “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack . But now — officially — we know who will be joining him. Theophilus London, the Joy Formidable, Iron & Wine, Christina Perri and the Noisettes are just some of the acts confirmed for the “Dawn” soundtrack, which hits stores on November 8 (10 days before “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” bows in theaters). The full track list was unveiled Monday (September 26) afternoon on the official “Twilight” Twitter account, confirming speculations that sprung up over the weekend, when a listing of artists and songs began making the rounds on various fansites . Work by “Twilight”-series composer Carter Burwell and actress Mia Maestro (she plays Carmen of the Denali Cover in the “Breaking Dawn” films) also shows up on the soundtrack, as do songs by Angus and Julia Young, the Features, the Belle Brigade and Cider Sky. All in all, there are 15 tracks on the album, and all — aside from a “Wedding Version” of Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” (as any good Twilighter will tell you, the original version of the song appeared on the first “Twilight” soundtrack) and an updated take on Noisettes’ “Sister Rosetta” — are new. The “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack follows in the footsteps of the ultra-successful 2008 “Twilight” ‘track (which featured new songs from Paramore and Perry Farrell), ’09’s “New Moon” (which boasted a new track by Death Cab for Cutie and contributions from Thom Yorke and Lykke Li) and last year’s “Eclipse,” which packed in tunes from Muse, Florence and the Machine, Beck and Vampire Weekend. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Soundtrack: Bruno Mars Makes It ‘Rain’

Mars’ ‘It Will Rain’ first song announced from upcoming ‘Twilight’ album. By Kara Warner Bruno Mars Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage It’s not enough that he’s one of the most in-demand singer/songwriters working today, or that almost every song he cranks out is a chart-topper. Bruno Mars will now win over the millions upon millions of “Twilight” fans with “It Will Rain,” which was announced as the first song on the “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” soundtrack. Summit Entertainment broke the news via the “Twilight” Facebook page, along with a photo of the artwork for Mars’ single. The artwork looks like a painting, seemingly created with watercolors or oil paints. The picture depicts a brooding Mars in black silhouette, holding an umbrella in one hand, a bottle of something in the other. He’s sitting in a chair, posture slightly slumped and legs spread out in front of him. The background is colorful, with swirls of paint dripping down the frame. “It Will Rain” is written in prominent thick black lettering to the right of Mars. In knowing Mars’ style, we expect the song to be sweeping, epic and possibly heart-wrenching. In being named to the illustrious ranks of “Twilight” soundtrack artists, the rising star and VMA nominee joins artists like Paramore, the Black Keys and Muse. When we last checked in with “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon at Comic-Con, he confirmed they were putting serious thought into the crafting of the soundtrack, courtesy of composer Carter Burwell, who scored the first movie, as well as careful consideration of which acts to include. And while the director would not confirm Pattinson’s inclusion on the soundtrack, he hinted that some of the musically inclined castmembers might lend their talents to a track or two. “We’re just figuring out [the soundtrack] now,” Condon said during MTV News’ “Breaking Dawn” Comic-Con takeover. “We have a lot of [songs]. We have like 15, I think.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson Not Recording A Solo Album

Contrary to online rumors, ‘Breaking Dawn’ star has no plans to drop an LP, rep confirms to MTV News. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson Photo: Getty Images His legions of hopeful fans will be sad to hear it, but despite reports and rumors to the contrary, Robert Pattinson is not recording an album. On Tuesday (September 20), Us Weekly reported that the “Twilight” superstar was itching to record his own songs, but according to the magazine’s two sources, he felt torn between his acting commitments and his love of music. The story further alleged that the 25-year-old would be putting together a guitar-based record in the next few weeks, before the promotional tour for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” kicks into gear. MTV News reached out to Pattinson’s rep, who told us, “The report is untrue. He is not working on an album right now.” Of course, that is not to say Pattinson might not record music someday — he has previously recorded “Never Think” and “Let Me Sign” for the original “Twilight” soundtrack — but it’s not happening now. When we caught up with “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon at Comic-Con, he confirmed that there would be some familiar musical themes weaved into the fourth film, courtesy of composer Carter Burwell, who scored the first movie. And while the director would not confirm Pattinson’s inclusion on the soundtrack, he hinted that some of the musically inclined castmembers might lend their talents. “We’re just figuring out [the soundtrack] now,” Condon said during MTV News’ “Breaking Dawn” Comic-Con takeover. “We have a lot of [songs]. We have like 15, I think.” Do you want to hear RPattz on the “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: Robert Pattinson

Stephen Dorff Talks ‘Somewhere,’ Career Ups And Downs

‘I thought I was a sell-out, playing a vampire,’ the actor says about his memorable role in ‘Blade.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Stephen Dorff Photo: MTV News Although his role in “Somewhere” was one of the most challenging of his career, Stephen Dorff is grateful to writer/director Sofia Coppola for giving him the opportunity to play a character who is a complete departure from the menacing, murderous types audiences are used to seeing him portray. When MTV News caught up with the actor, he explained that “Somewhere” is the kind of independent art film he was most interested in at the start of his career — which has spanned more than two decades — but when Hollywood started calling, he reluctantly veered into bigger films playing bad boys and villains. “[After the 1992 coming-of-age drama ‘Power of One,’] Hollywood was coming to me, but I was kind of resisting,” Dorff said of his early years in the business. “I really wanted to make art films. I loved working on movies like ‘I Shot Andy Warhol’ [and] ‘S.F.W.’ I liked doing edgier things. I was kind of into Nirvana, I was into rebelling against my childhood.” He added, “I wasn’t really interested in playing vulnerable, sweet parts, like I played in ‘Power of One’ and ‘Backbeat,’ so in a way I think I did that to my own image. I kind of fought it. Then, when it came time to wanting to do [a sensitive role again], it wasn’t necessarily there for me. “Then ‘Blade’ came around and I thought that was the end of my career,” Dorff admitted. “Because I thought I was a sell-out, playing a vampire.” Dorff said that those reservations eventually subsided and that he enjoyed making the action-horror flick. “I had a good time with [director] Steve Norrington,” Dorff said. “I knew he was talented. I had seen this little teeny movie he did and I knew this guy was going to make a good movie.” Dorff went on to say that now he feels that “Blade,” as well as the first “Matrix” movie, were well ahead of their time with regard to what they opened up for filmmaking. “Now we have so many comic-book movies and they’re kind of regenerating the same movie,” he explained. “In a way, there’s not much originality to them. I like that we did ours earlier.” Dorff said that leading up to and after “Blade,” he tried going for less dark roles, but that he couldn’t resist opportunities to work with the likes of Jack Nicholson (1997’s “Blood and Wine”) and other great actors, so he became typecast. “Up until now, really, this movie is the first time somebody like Sofia [Coppola] said, ‘Well there’s another side to Stephen, maybe he can play the leading man, maybe he can be a little sweeter and not have to kill everybody,” Dorff suggested. “It’s nice that now I get texts after ‘Somewhere’ [that say,] ‘You make such a good dad!’ ” he reveals about his family members’ reactions to his performance in the film. “It’s so different than ‘Why were you so scary and mean?’ ”

Jeff Bridges Relayed ‘Lebowski’ Theories To Coen Brothers On ‘True Grit’ Set

Oscar-winning actor says he’d love to team up with directing duo again. By Terri Schwartz Jeff Bridges Photo: MTV News Fans might find Jeff Bridges’ most-memorable performance to be as The Dude in the Coen brothers’ 1998 comedy “The Big Lebowski,” and Bridges is looking to impress audiences yet again as Rooster Cogburn in his second Coen brothers flick, “True Grit.” Unsurprisingly, Bridges is a fan of Joel and Ethan Coen’s directing style, which is what had him returning for more. When MTV News asked what his favorite Coen films are, Bridges responded with a laugh, “[‘True Grit’] is the freshest in my mind. Number two would be ‘Lebowski.’ I’m partial, but two great movies!” For Bridges, returning to the set of a Coen brothers film was like returning to an old group of friends. On each of their films, the Coens surround themselves with many of the same crewmembers, including cinematographer Roger Deakins and composer Carter Burwell, and Bridges said the sense of community onset makes the environment “very easy-going.” Bridges and the Coens only made plans for the Oscar-winning actor to star in “Lebowski” and “True Grit,” but Bridges said he’d love to team up with the directing duo again. “I’d like to do whatever. They’re a joy to work with, and they really know how to do it,” he said. That comment might have fans crossing their fingers for a “Big Lebowski 2,” and Bridges said The Dude still has a special place in both his and the Coens’ hearts. With fans still approaching him to talk about “Lebowski,” Bridges said he and the Coens talked about the cult classic on the set of “True Grit.” “Everybody’s got different things to say about ‘The Big Lebowski,’ ” Bridges explained. “One guy came up to me with a theory. He said I’ve got to check this out with the brothers. It was very earnest and desperate. He said, ‘Donny [Steve Buscemi] is a figment of Walter’s [John Goodman] imagination. He doesn’t really exist.’ It gets you thinking a little bit, doesn’t it? So I ran that by the brothers, and they chortled, and that was about it.” Which is your favorite Coen brothers film?
