Boyz II Men: The ‘Battle Of The Boy Bands’ Forefathers

Boyz up against longtime rivals Jodeci in round one; voting open now! By John Mitchell, with reporting by Jocelyn Vena Boyz II Men Photo: Jeff Fusco/ Getty Images Our Battle of the Boy Bands got off to a roaring start Monday as fans of new groups like the Wanted and One Direction and legacy acts like ‘NSYNC and New Kids on the Block hit our bracket hard to push their favorites on to the next round. One group that is in it to win it is Boyz II Men , who told MTV News they were among the “progenitors” of the entire boy-band genre. “We were kind of like the progenitors, the torch holders of a lot of the artists, of a lot of the boy bands that came about,” Nathan Morris told us. Highest Chart Achievement In the mid-’90s, Boyz II Men ruled the charts. That’s not hyperbole, either — three of the top-10 longest-running #1 singles in the history of the Billboard chart belong to the band. Their top song, though, is actually a duet, and with 16 weeks spent atop the chart, it’s also the biggest single ever: “One Sweet Day” with Mariah Carey. Boyz II Men are one of just four artists or groups to have held the #1 spot for at least 50 weeks cumulatively. On the all-time list, they fall at #4, behind only (ahem!) Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Carey. (With 47 weeks, Usher falls just short at #5.) Clearly, the band has quite a few chart achievements under its belt. Standout Video The Boyz made a series of great videos for their hits “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You” and “Water Runs Dry,” but for its cameos alone, “On Bended Knee” rises above. In the clip, each band member breaks up with and eventually reconciles with a girlfriend, played by four famous actresses: Victoria Rowell, Ren

Kristen Stewart Dons ‘Snow White’ Armor In New Photos

Pics show Stewart filming battle scene on beach in Wales. By Jocelyn Vena Kristen Stewart as “Snow White” Photo: Universal Kristen Stewart looks like she’s ready for battle. Some photos of the “Twilight” star on the set of “Snow White and the Huntsman” have hit the Internet. In them, Stewart is wearing her previously teased armor as she films scenes at Marloes Sands Beach in Pembrokeshire Wales, U.K., this week. Photos on Screenrant.com show the actress riding a white horse alongside a group of extras dressed as medieval soldiers. They are riding through the water for what appears to be some sort of battle scene. In some on-set candids, the ponytail-sporting actress laughs and walks around the set of the Rupert Sanders-directed flick. Stewart recently debuted her longer locks for the film at London Fashion Week. No signs of co-stars Charlize Theron (the Evil Queen), Chris Hemsworth (the Huntsman) or Sam Claflin (Prince Charming) in the new photos. The film is expected to open June 1, 2012. “It’s not a little girl sitting by a well with little tweety birds telling her what to do and where to go,” Stewart told MTV News of her character. “[The costume] makes you feel kind of strong occasionally, sometimes, but I kind of feel tiny, my pinhead sticks out of these enormous things.” Her tough look has even been approved by that other “Snow White” movie director, Tarsem , who recently gushed over her battle-ready look. “She’s gorgeous,” he told MTV News. “She’s great.” The film centers around the struggle between Snow White and the Evil Queen, who, jealous of Snow White’s beauty, wants to destroy her. The catch is that Snow White has been training with the Huntsman, who has been ordered to kill her. And in true fairy-tale form, Prince Charming is enamored with Snow White. “This, as a fable, she sort of just starts off as a bad person, so it was important to understand [why she is the way she is],” Theron explained about her character. “A lot of her circumstances will kind of bleed into her actions. … She’s a serial killer; I’m pretty much preparing to play a serial killer.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Lil Wayne cover arrives ahead of Biebs’ forthcoming Christmas album. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images First, it was Demi Lovato , and now, Justin Bieber is jumping on the Lil Wayne “How to Love” bandwagon. On Wednesday (September 28), the singer dropped his acoustic version of the ballad. According to a tweet from Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun , Bieber produced and played all of the instruments on the song, which shows the singer growing as an artist and his ability to embrace older lyrical content. He plays guitar and percussion, displaying his skills an instrumentalist, and, as fans have seen over the course of this year, he also sings in a lower key. About a minute and a half into the track, Bieber even shows off his rapping skills when he spits, “I just want to take my time/ I just want to my thing/ Maybe we press rewind/ Maybe I buy that ring/ We could grow old together/ Just share our souls together/ Find how to love, kiss and hug/ How to roll together/ I just need you by my side/ Maybe we could be alright/ I just want to hold you right/ We can into the night/ You’re the one I need.” Braun also shared that there’s more new music coming out from Bieber, tweeting, “He has some more remixes coming too. right @seankingston.” This week, Bieber heads to South America for a string of dates on the next leg of his My World Tour, and he had this message for all the Bieliebers out there: “U know what … I LOVE MY FANS!! and yeah i know there r haterz but u cant stop us from living our dream. hard work and this team. #wegohard.” In related news, Bieber tweeted out the date “#nov1st,” perhaps a hint as to when his highly anticipated Christmas album will drop. The album, which will feature confirmed track “Falalalala” with Boyz II Men , is also rumored to contain collaborations with Sean Kingston and Taylor Swift, as well as a super-secret collaboration with “1 of the most #Legendary performers ever,” according to a tweet from Braun. Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman said, “[Bieber] thought we’d be perfect for it. And we went in and locked in.” Share your thoughts on Bieber’s version of “How to Love” in the comments below! Dirty Dog Diaries: Photo Evidence Of Boyz II Men Singer Shawn Stockman With Video Vixen Turned Vh1 Star He Was Chopping Down!

This affair is old news but this is probably the first photographic evidence we’ve seen of Boyz II Men singer and “The Sing Off” host Shawn Stockman with his “spiritual wife” aka the video jawn he was chopping down on top of his spouse for nine years. Since Shawn is a Hebrew Israelite, he was “allowed” more than one wife, but when she found out there were others besides her longtime sidepiece Avonte bounced. This is not new information, but we’re pretty sure it’s getting new life because Avonte is on the new season of VH-1′s “Tough Love Miami” and now Stockman has a new show as well, “The Sing Off.” Wonder if the folks at NBC were aware of this though… Wright’s VH-1 bio reads: At 36, Avonte is the oldest member of Steve’s Tough Love Bootcamp and perhaps the woman with the most to lose. Avonte spent the past 9 years as the mistress to a celebrity, wasting her late 20′s and early 30′s on a dead end relationship that left her with deep, emotional scars. Now, she’s back in the dating scene with no idea how to treat a prospective suitor and walls so high, it would take a rock climber to scale them. Trust is Avonte’s biggest issue and she constantly tests the men she dates to see if they are worthy of her affection. Her challenge at bootcamp is to show a softer side and open herself up to love again. And hopefully, this time it will be with a man who will value her as his one and only, and not his ‘woman on the side’. Not to rehash the whole deal, but Avonte was there before the wife, so she probably doesn’t feel bad about dude getting put on blast. Their relationship allegedly include lots of international travel, lavish gifts, cash and a small part on Boyz II Men’s “The Remedy album. Avonte is rumored to have spent time with Stockman at Johnny Wright’s compound in Miami while the project was being recorded. In a recent interview, Wright said: Once I left that situation and received counsel I see why everyone thought that I was in a “cult” because of the Religion that drove that relationship (referring to the Hebrew Israelites which Stockman practices). Conveniently enough, photos of the former couple have now surfaced on the web … Peep them here: Tough Love Miami premiers October 2nd on VH1.

Robert Pattinson Not Recording A Solo Album

Contrary to online rumors, ‘Breaking Dawn’ star has no plans to drop an LP, rep confirms to MTV News. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson Photo: Getty Images His legions of hopeful fans will be sad to hear it, but despite reports and rumors to the contrary, Robert Pattinson is not recording an album. On Tuesday (September 20), Us Weekly reported that the “Twilight” superstar was itching to record his own songs, but according to the magazine’s two sources, he felt torn between his acting commitments and his love of music. The story further alleged that the 25-year-old would be putting together a guitar-based record in the next few weeks, before the promotional tour for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” kicks into gear. MTV News reached out to Pattinson’s rep, who told us, “The report is untrue. He is not working on an album right now.” Of course, that is not to say Pattinson might not record music someday — he has previously recorded “Never Think” and “Let Me Sign” for the original “Twilight” soundtrack — but it’s not happening now. When we caught up with “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon at Comic-Con, he confirmed that there would be some familiar musical themes weaved into the fourth film, courtesy of composer Carter Burwell, who scored the first movie. And while the director would not confirm Pattinson’s inclusion on the soundtrack, he hinted that some of the musically inclined castmembers might lend their talents. “We’re just figuring out [the soundtrack] now,” Condon said during MTV News’ “Breaking Dawn” Comic-Con takeover. “We have a lot of [songs]. We have like 15, I think.” Do you want to hear RPattz on the “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: Robert Pattinson

Justin Bieber: Boyz II Men ‘Perfect’ For Christmas Song

Holiday collabo is called ‘Falalalala,’ group reveals to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Boyz II Men Photo: MTV News After a photo surfaced online of Justin Bieber and Boyz II Men singer Shawn Stockman in the studio together, Beliebers were pretty excited about the Christmas track they were putting together. Bieber had his musical heroes in mind when he heard the song — called “Falalalala,” the group revealed to MTV News — for his upcoming holiday album. “He thought we’d be perfect for it,” Stockman said. “And we went in and locked in.” When the Boyz stopped by to talk about their October album Twenty, Wanya Morris recalled meeting the teen star for the first time way back before they all worked together. “We met him in the hotel, at the Le Montrose, in L.A. and the dude, he had a cast on at the time,” Morris remembered. “And he stepped up and said, ‘Oh my God! Boyz II Men, you’re my favorite group!’ And we’re like, ‘Oh, OK,’ and at the time, we didn’t know who he was. He was a new dude, and the next thing you know, he’s huge. And I’m like, ‘That’s the same guy!’ ” Bieber was a fan of Boyz II Men from when he was a kid, but there was one track that wasn’t allowed in the Bieber household. “He told us his mom didn’t want him to sing ‘I’ll Make Love to You,’ so he’d sneak and go sing it somewhere,” Morris said. “It’s also good to know we’ve influenced such a good artist. It’s something that makes us feel we’ve accomplished [something and] we’re doing our job, [that] a guy so young and so into his craft [is] influenced by three guys from Philadelphia that love to sing.” What are you expecting from Bieber and Boyz II Men’s Christmas collabo?
