Barraza/WENN.com / WENN LeBron James Helps To Build Housing For ‘I Promise’ Students LeBron James is seriously dedicated to helping his students, and he proves that time and time again. The baller is now adding safe housing to the school he founded in his hometown, so that students have a stable place to live while they get their education. The Ohio native announced on Monday that a historic apartment building in Akron is being renovated and turned into transitional housing for families in need at his ‘I Promise’ School. https://twitter.com/KingJames/status/1191387812404322304?s=20 “Initially, our work was focused on helping these kids earn an education. But we’ve found that it is impossible to help them learn if they are struggling to survive — if they are hungry, if they have no heat in the freezing winter, if they live in fear for their safety,” James said in a statement. “We want this place to be their home where they feel safe, supported, and loved, knowing we are right there with them every step of the way as they get back on their feet.” James and his foundation opened the school for at-risk third and fourth graders in 2018 and plans to expand to first through eighth grade by the year 2022. LeBron has promised free tuition to the University of Akron when the students graduate. The foundation is currently working on the project with Graduate Hotels, which operates boutique hotels in college towns around the United States. Graduate is going to renovate the historic Westmont apartment building, located approximately five blocks from the school in Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood to donate the apartments to the school. “The I Promise Village by Graduate Hotels will be a monumental next step for us and LeBron and his Foundation’s commitment to the future of the students and their families,” said Graduate Hotels founder and CEO Ben Weprin in a statement. “It’s humbling to see the change they are affecting on a daily basis and we’re honored to be a part of the journey.” The building currently has 22 units and the foundation said renovations will start immediately, since it’s scheduled to be operational in July when the next school year begins.

Source: VASILY MAXIMOV / Getty Black Transgender Woman Muhlaysia Booker Is Found Dead After Surviving Brutal Attack Back In April In a devastating turn of events, Muhlaysia Booker , the Black trans woman who was brutally beaten on video a month ago, has been found dead. According to Dallas News ,  she was found fatally shot on Saturday morning on a Far East Dallas street. She was pronounced dead on the scene and according to police, she was the victim of “homicidal violence.” As of Sunday, police said they had no leads in the case. Assistant Chief Avery Moore said they did not have enough info to determine whether her death was a hate crime or not. “We recognize that hate crimes, if you will, are a serious topic,” he said. “We at the Dallas Police Department take them serious.” Booker was definitely the victim of a hate crime back in April when a video circulated online of her being brutally beaten in the parking lot of the Royal Crest Apartments in the 3500 block of Wilhurt Avenue. She suffered a broken wrist and a concussion from the incident, which started after a car accident. Booker told authorities that she’d backed into another vehicle in the parking lot and that another driver aimed a gun at her and refused to let her leave unless she paid for damages done. As a crowd gathered, someone offered an Edward Thomas $200 to attack Booker, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. A clip showed Thomas putting on gloves to punch Booker repeatedly. He was arrested two days after the attack and indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was released from jail after posting bond and cops said others could face charges in the incident as well. They’re currently investigating to determine if it was a hate crime based on Booker’s claim that homophobic slurs were used during the attack. At a rally held the week after the assault, Booker told the crowd that she was grateful to have survived the assault: “This time, I can stand before you, where in other scenarios, we’re at a memorial ,” she said. Smh. This is truly a tragedy.

She also shot at Perry’s wife who presumably tried to protect her husband from harm. Cops showed up to the Meridian Place Apartments and found the two victims wounded. Meanwhile, Daniels was still armed and refused to put down her gun. Perry’s wife said she let Daniels inside their home earlier because she knew her from her time living in Little Rock. When she was escorting Daniels back out, that’s when she pulled out a handgun and started blasting and screaming “You broke my heart” at the husband, according to court papers obtained by Q13 Fox. His wife then knelt by him, and Daniels told her to move out the way. That’s when she shot her in the left shoulder. They said the officer was trying to take her into custody and that’s when she jerked away and pushed him before taking off running. Officers said they had to force Daniels to the ground before they could have her handcuffed. Daniels now faces first-degree murder charges along with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. She’s currently held without bond. Father Indicted For Keeping Daughter’s Corpse In Crib A man in Ohion has been taken into custody and indicted for keeping his dead child’s remains in his home fore over a month. Via MailOnline : An Ohio father has been indicted by a grand jury for keeping the body of his dead 21-month-old daughter in a crib in his apartment for over a month. A Medina County grand jury ruled to indict 34-year-old Eric Warfel Tuesday on felony charges of abusing a corpse in the fifth degree and tampering with evidence in the third degree. The medical examiner hasn’t ruled on the cause of death as of Thursday afternoon. A technician from Armstrong Cable was working at the Forest Meadows Apartments Homes in Medina installing wiring at the residence of Eric Warfel July 29. Warfel was not home at the time, and after realizing there was a very strong smell inside the apartment, the technician discovered the body of Ember Warfel in a garbage-strewn bedroom. The body was in such bad condition it could not be determined at first if the child was a boy or a girl. The Medina-Gazette reported that Warfel was arrested later that day while out on a shopping trip with his other daughter, 7-year-old Elizabeth. He had spent the previous night with the girl at a Motel 6, where detectives later discovered cocaine. What the hell?? We’re guessing the father played a direct role in the death of this baby if he left her body ignored in a trashy room for over a month. SMH. Facebook

Teenage Girl Lures Man To Robbery Via Online Dating Site You have to be careful with these online hookups ! A Houston man was shot in a robbery gone wrong, apparently after being lured into a setup by a teenage girl he met on an online dating site. Via Click2Houston : A teen girl is accused of using an online dating service to set up a man to be robbed, according to deputies. Brittany Shalynn Davis, 18, is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, the victim arranged to meet Davis, who called herself “Shayye,” after connecting with her on Plenty of Fish, an online dating website. The man met up with Davis at the El Sol Brillante Apartments in the 6400 block of Sierra Blanca on June 29. He said while the two were standing outside talking, Davis got on the phone with someone and told them she was standing at the bottom of the stairwell. Davis told the man that she needed to go get something from a friend’s house and began to walk off. That is when two armed men approached the man and demanded money. After searching the man and realizing he had no cash, the suspects began to argue with Davis, criticizing her for bringing a man to them who had no money. You would think that would be the end of it all…but the assailants didn’t simply let the victim go once they realized he didn’t have anything for them. The suspects then ordered the man to walk to his vehicle, and once there, the man was shot in the chest. The victim said one of the men said “He’s dead,” and all three suspects ran off. The victim pretended to be dead until Davis and the men left. Afterward, he got into his car and dialed 911. He drove to Highway 6 and Alief Clodine, where he stopped and waited for paramedics because he could not breathe, according to court documents. Investigators interviewed people at the apartment complex and learned there was a resident who called herself Shayye. Police made a photo lineup using Davis’ photograph and the victim was able to identify her as the teen who lured him to the apartments and set him up for the attempted robbery. SMH! It might be time to try to meet dates in person…

The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 10 Recap: Peter Needs a Home (and Serious Help)

Last night on The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 10, Mindy insisted on helping Peter find a better place to live, which was hilarious because PETER! Was it successful, though? That’s another story entirely … Watch The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 10 Online As usual, The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 10 featured plenty of classic exchanges and just enough heart to keep you emotionally (and absurdly) invested. With Peter having a tough time with roommates, Mindy thinks he should rent Danny’s second place, which he had thought about selling or converting into one apartment. If you watch The Mindy Project online , you know how this is going to go, but it didn’t make it any less funny after Danny reluctantly agreed to Mindy’s idea: Peter doesn’t own a bed, so she invites him to stay in their apartment. Peter and Mindy stay up late watching bad reality TV programs. Danny seductively walks in on Peter, not Mindy, in the shower. A contractor visits and tells Mindy about Danny’s plan to combine the apartments, which Mindy assumes is so they can move in, so Mindy kicks Peter out. During his final night at the place, Peter throws a rager and gets hurt going on a table slide. Not as hurt as Mindy, as Danny reveals he was thinking about Ma moving in. After visiting Peter in the hospital, Danny decides to let Peter stay, and apologizes to Mindy, revealing that he is scared of the idea of them moving in together. She tells Danny to ask her about it sometime when he’s not so anxious. Meanwhile, Jeremy babysits Lauren’s son while she deals with a family issue, and naturally, Morgan wants to help because he doesn’t think Jeremy can hack it. After a rough night with Henry, Morgan shows up and Henry loves him. Defeated by babysitting, especially after Henry calls for “Peter,” Jeremy wants to prove he can do this and enlists Morgan to try to help Jeremy babysit. Fun as it is making the kid laugh by injuring himself, it looks like Dr. Reed might not be as into the idea of having a girlfriend with a kid as he once thought.

Front if you wanna, these old folks get it poppington! 3 Arrested In Prostitution And Drug Sting At New Jersey Senior Citizens Housing Complex Via NorthJersey Some of the activities taking place at Englewood’s senior citizen housing complex were a long way from canasta, police said. A man, 75, and a woman, 66, suspected of using yayo and running a prostitution ring out of their apartments at the Vincente K. Tibbs Senior Citizen Building have been arrested after residents complained about vagrants, drunks and addicts invading their building, authorities said. The suspects and an alleged accomplice are believed to be behind a recent rise in crime that had residents afraid to come out of their apartments, authorities said. Their growing fears prompted an undercover investigation and new round-the-clock police patrols of the complex. “Essentially, they were prisoners in their own building,” Chief Arthur O’Keefe of the Englewood police said of the residents. “I wasn’t going to allow that to continue.” In late April, police arrested fifth-floor residents James Parham and his neighbor Cheryl Chaney on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug nuisance. Chaney faces an additional charge of possession of crack yayo. A third suspect, Selma McDuffie, a 54-year-old school crossing guard, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police found her with a crack pipe, police said. McDuffie has been suspended from her police-run crossing guard job in Englewood and threatened with arrest if she returns to the building. Parham admitted providing prostitutes — mostly young women with crack yayo addictions — to some of his younger neighbors in the building, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said. More charges could be pending. At what age do you say: “I’m too cotdamn old to be smoking crack and chopping down crack hoes.” Can you imagine having to bail your grandmother out of jail because she was caught giving some sloppy toppy in exchange for a few rocks??
