Why Disney Will Never Spend $250 Million on The Lone Ranger

As you may have heard , Disney shockingly put the brakes on the planned big-screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger that star Johnny Depp, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski were aiming to bring into theaters next Christmas. The reasons were budgetary — the cost of Ranger had reportedly ballooned to $250 million — but it appears that a mere (“mere”) $20-30 million is all that separates the studio from the filmmakers. Provided some cuts can be made — a task easier said than done, as backend deals and three large-scale action scenes revolving around trains reportedly threaten the compromise — The Lone Ranger could conceivably hit theaters at some point. Unless, of course, Disney realizes it might not be the best idea anyway.

How To Keep Those Checks Coming In: 11 Most Desired Degrees In 2011

For those of you seeking a J-O-B, here are degrees that employers are checking for the most: Employers say that they plan to hire almost 20 percent more four-year college graduates than they did last year, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Already, 41 percent of the current class who applied for a job has received at least one offer, compared with 38 percent of the Class of 2010 at this time last year. Hiring by industry has increased in almost every sector, except for government, professional services and retail. Engineering, computer-related and “money” degrees like accounting perennially comprise the most job openings, and this year is no different. However, liberal arts and science majors also are seeing slightly better opportunities this year, according to the NACE. Below are the bachelor’s degrees that businesses told the NACE that they most demand.

‘X-Men: First Class’ Star Calls Prequel ‘Metaphor’ For Real Life

Lucas Till tells MTV News why the flick stands out in a summer stacked with superheroes. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Lucas Till Photo: MTV News During our recent sit-downs with the cast of “X-Men: First Class” — a prequel and the fourth film in the “X-Men” franchise — the talk focused not so much on how the latest installment differs from the first three, but rather what separates “First Class” from all the other superhero-style movies opening this summer. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender pointed to the film’s universal theme of struggling to fit in, for instance. For their co-star Lucas Till, what makes “First Class” stand out is how fans connect to the unique characters, whereas the competition often relies more on fun to pull in moviegoers. “I feel like the question I wished you would have asked me is, ‘How awesome does this summer look?’ Because you’ve got completely different things,” Till said when we asked what separates his flick from the rest of the pack. “With ‘Captain America,’ you’ve got a 1940s pulp-movie feel, and I feel like that’s going to be its own separate thing; fun and entertaining. And then you’ve got ‘Thor,’ which is, like, a cool ‘He-Man’ episode, which I was thoroughly surprised with. Then you’ve got ‘Green Lantern,’ which I thought was going to be stupid, but kind of looks like a cool cartoon. “This one,” Till continued, returning to “First Class,” “There’s so many metaphors to real life and there’s actual character development. I feel like you care about the characters, then there’s an ensemble cast, which they’re trying to do with ‘Justice League’ and ‘Avengers.’ Till suddenly spouting so many comic-book films both surprised and impressed his “First Class” co-star Rose Byrne. “You’re like a lexicon for superhero movies,” she said with awe. “You really are, you have an intelligent perspective and context for them; I don’t.” At which point their co-star Zo

Stay In School Kids!: Northwestern University Professor Offers Live Demonstration On The Use Of Sex Toys During Class!

Sounds like a helluva way to “educate” yourself… A Northwestern University psychology professor was in hot water Thursday for an after-class session in which a couple demonstrated the use of a sex toy. University President Morton Schapiro said he was “troubled and disappointed” by the February 21 incident and had ordered an investigation. “Many members of the Northwestern community are disturbed by what took place on our campus,” Schapiro said in a statement. “So am I.” Professor J. Michael Bailey provided his own account of the optional event in his human sexuality course, saying he wants students to learn about sexual diversity and information from “real people.” Students who witnessed the incident had been told repeatedly by a guest speaker what was about to happen would be graphic, the professor said in a statement. About 100 students chose to attend following a larger lecture, affiliate WGN said. The guest speaker at the demonstration had this to say: “We gave them plenty of warning. We had nobody leave at that point,” Melvoin-Berg told CNN Chicago affiliate WLS, adding the demonstration was meant to be educational. “We only got positive feedback, 100% positive feedback during and after. The students were respectful. They were smart and asked good questions, intelligent questions and seemed engaged in the idea of human sexuality,” Of course at least 1 student was a hater: “For me, I’m glad I didn’t see it. It was a little too explicit for me, and if I were in the class, if I would have stayed for the demonstration, I probably would have left. I know a couple of my friends did get up and leave,” student Diana Lorenzini told CNN affiliate WLS. At least one student wasn’t a f**king prude: Brianne Williams, another student, said “Dr. Michael Bailey is one of our finest professors here, and his class is about opening people’s minds up.” The school president goes on to say: “Although the incident took place in an after-class session that students were not required to attend and students were advised in advance, several times, of the explicit nature of the activity, I feel it represented extremely poor judgment on the part of our faculty member,” Schapiro said in his statement. “I simply do not believe this was appropriate, necessary or in keeping with Northwestern University’s academic mission.” These are students, but they are also grown a** people, and if they want to spend time out of class learning how to properly bust one off, then who is the University to complain? C’mon Schapiro, orgasms are good for morale… Do you think there is anything wrong with the demonstration??? Source

Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker, Candice Accola Look Back On ‘When I Was 17’

Stars remember fast-food runs and telling off teachers in latest episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kobe Bryant on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV Kobe Bryant was obviously working on his now legendary hoop game when he was 17, but even with NBA superstardom ahead of him, he also made time to score fast food. The Los Angeles Lakers baller reminisced about ditching class to score tasty eats on the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” which premiered on Saturday. In the episode, which also featured stories from supermodel Brooklyn Decker and “The Vampire Diaries” star Candice Accola, explained how he and his friends would play hooky and snag a burger or some Mexican food. “I had taken the bulk of my classes my first three years. So my senior year was a pretty easy year. Every day was senior cut day,” Kobe said. “We used to just talk in between breaks or in between periods. [We’d just say] ‘You hungry?’ ‘Yeah, I’m hungry. Let’s roll, let’s go.’ ” The NBA star added, “I was starving. I mean, c’mon, I was a buck-20. I needed to eat something. Cafeteria pizza ain’t gonna cut it. It’s just, like, prison food. We used to go to McDonald’s, Taco Bell.” Supermodel Brooklyn Decker tended to stay in class, but she didn’t always behave herself. The Sports Illustrated siren copped to getting into a tiff with a teacher over a proposed yearbook layout. “My friend Ashley and I were in this class. I was the senior class president and Ashley was student body president, and the yearbook teacher did not want to give student council a page in the yearbook,” she said, explaining, “We funded all these clubs and we support all these clubs through spirit week and so we thought we deserve a page in the yearbook.” Their teacher suggested the go-getters in student council give up some yearbook space to a club that featured people who wouldn’t get any shine in the school-pride tome otherwise. Apparently not one for compromise, Decker lost it. “We started yelling things at one another and by the end of the class Ashley took a trash can and just chucked it at a wall. And I walked out of the class, and I went like this [makes a provocative gesture] and I yelled, ‘Suck it!’ to my teacher,” she said. “The Vampire Diaries” starlet Candice Accola also made a statement when she was 17, although it was with her hair and not her hollering, dying her tresses red to stand out. “It was very overwhelming at the beginning,” the former Miley Cyrus backup singer said of heading to Hollywood to jump-start her music career. “You feel like such a little guppy in this giant ocean. And I just never felt like anyone ever remembered me. I’d meet people constantly and try to make an impression.” Accola decided she could ignite some attention by turning ginger. “I thought I’d be edgy and dye my hair red,” she said. “And I dyed my hair, like, Jessica Rabbit red. It kind of allowed me to have this whole new confidence and this whole new swagger and this whole new sense of self. It kind of brought out the inner rock star in me. I had never dyed my hair like that, and no one forgot me after that.” “When I Was 17” airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV Related Videos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 8 | Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker, Candice Accola Related Photos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 8 | Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker, Candice Accola
