High School Senior SLAMS Sexist Dress Code with Scathing Yearbook Quote

Yearbook quotes used to just be little cute ways of being remembered or sharing jokes with friends. Now, in the age of social media, many students hope to be able to share their sense of humor or their ingenuity with thousands of people who never attended their school. Sometimes, it works, and their photo and quote get shared all across the world. One student’s yearbook photo has gone viral for making a hilarious point about sexist dress codes. When Tori DiPaolo tweeted this photo from the yearbook, she included a caption. “Tori: 1; Dress Code: 0.” She wasn’t just congratulating herself for an entertaining quote that poked fun at the hypocrisy of school photos that bare those scandalous shoulders when the school itself bans them. She’s apparently waged a lengthy battle against the school’s outrageously sexist dress code policies. “Over the past four years, myself and many of my friends have received dress code violations for clothes that were nowhere near inappropriate.” That’s all too common. And while many students are quick to blame teachers for reporting them for their “offenses,” they should realize that most teachers only do so for fear of getting into trouble if they don’t report dress code violations. “I became a bit infamous around school for fighting the administration about dress code, so I figured I’d use my senior quote as one final jab.” Great callbacks to your reputation are a great way to use a yearbook quote. Second only to the folks who use their yearbook quotes to come out of the closet. “I just found it funny that the outfits for senior portraits technically violated the dress code by exposing our shoulders, so I saw my opportunity and ran with it.” Funny, yes … but not funny haha , you know? Dress codes can be especially onerous in the south, where soaring temperatures can combine with humidity to make even a tee shirt feel like its smothering its wearers. But no matter the location, dress codes are clearly and aggressively based on gender discrimination. “It’s all based on sexism, and it is completely unreasonable.” She’s not pulling that out of nowhere. So much of dress codes has to do with the idea that a girl’s bare shoulders or, gasp, if her tee shirt rides up, will distract the boys in the classroom. You know, because shoulders and the small of your back have magic powers that force boys to stop paying attention. One of my favorite anecdotes about girls responding to stupid sexist dress code enforcement was a girl who was told that her bra strap was showing so she needed to change outfits who then reached under her shirt and removed her bra. All the while without breaking eye contact with the teacher. Not all heroes wear capes. Or bras. “There have been a number of incidents where I was called into the office due to what I was wearing. Whether it was my bra strap showing, or my midriff being a quarter inch exposed, administration always gave me a problem.” Pulling her out of class and wasting her time when she could have been learning. Shame on them. Like, the idea of a dress code makes sense, but basically you should just need to wear clothing that wouldn’t get you banned from Instagram or, like, a McDonald’s. That’s just part of life. Instead, students — most of whom are in the middle of growth spurts and many of whom may not come from families who can afford to be picky about clothes — are expected to go above and beyond. Because apparently certain parts of the human arm are just too darn sexual. (But in ways that only impact boys) Policies are inconsistently enforced, so a girl might only get in trouble for her attire after having worn it a dozen times before, thinking that it wasn’t a problem. The most insidious part of how dress codes are enforced is that, in case she might distract boys from their educations, girls are called out of class or even sent home. Which effectively prioritizes the educations of hypothetical boys who lack basic self-control skills. The fact that girls are supposed to be responsible for their male classmates’ educations is ludicrous, but it’s enshrined in countless dress codes across the country. That kind of thinking is only a few steps below “that witch hexed me into lusting after her!” DiPaolo isn’t the only students or former student to have expressed these concerns or fought this battle. There have been viral stories, like that parent of a female student who invited the school’s principal to go shopping with them to see how absurd the dress code was an how difficult it was to meet. There are adults fighting similar battles against what’s considered inappropriate for grown women vs what men are allowed to do. There are even cases where men are directly impacted — right now in Europe, there are numerous men wearing skirts to protest their companies’ bans on wearing shorts during soaring temperatures. Though, honestly, skirts have to be way more comfortable. Maybe they’ll stick with them. And maybe society should care a little less about how people decorate their meat prisons.

Blac Chyna Shares "Chubby Face" Yearbook Pic!

While most folks would rather keep their yearbook photos buried deep in a closet at their mom’s house, Blac Chyna is openly sharing hers. Rocking straight blond(ish) hair, minimal makeup and one of those traditional black, off-the-shoulder drapey things they make the girls wear on picture day, the model recently shared this pic to Instagram: “Girl bye… Chubby face… 17 years old,” she wrote in the caption. Looking like a typical high schooler, Blac (known as Angela White back in the day) appears adorable yet far less glam than we usually see her. However, her face is still pretty much the same when you compare it to this makeup-free photo her boyfriend Rob Kardashian recently shared: Okay, maybe she lost a little of the “chubby face.” Blac posted the throwback pic on the evening of Rob’s family birthday party at Nobu in Malibu – the one she was conspicuously absent from. We don’t know if she wasn’t invited or she opted out, but it looks as though Rob’s family is still not quite ready to accept her just yet.  Of course, Blac’s baby daddy Tyga was there with her arch nemesis Kylie Jenner, so her presence may have been a tad awkward. Still, Rob picked Blac to spend most of his special day with. The two celebrated the day before his birthday at Legoland , and she was with him on the day of his birthday as well, when they kept it low key with a cheat-day trip to In-N-Out Burger. Whether makeup-free or ultra glam, it looks like Rob’s affection for Blac is only growing stronger. View Slideshow: Blac Chyna Photos: Her Most Scandalous, Sexy Pics on Instagram!

Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker, Candice Accola Look Back On ‘When I Was 17’

Stars remember fast-food runs and telling off teachers in latest episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kobe Bryant on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV Kobe Bryant was obviously working on his now legendary hoop game when he was 17, but even with NBA superstardom ahead of him, he also made time to score fast food. The Los Angeles Lakers baller reminisced about ditching class to score tasty eats on the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” which premiered on Saturday. In the episode, which also featured stories from supermodel Brooklyn Decker and “The Vampire Diaries” star Candice Accola, explained how he and his friends would play hooky and snag a burger or some Mexican food. “I had taken the bulk of my classes my first three years. So my senior year was a pretty easy year. Every day was senior cut day,” Kobe said. “We used to just talk in between breaks or in between periods. [We’d just say] ‘You hungry?’ ‘Yeah, I’m hungry. Let’s roll, let’s go.’ ” The NBA star added, “I was starving. I mean, c’mon, I was a buck-20. I needed to eat something. Cafeteria pizza ain’t gonna cut it. It’s just, like, prison food. We used to go to McDonald’s, Taco Bell.” Supermodel Brooklyn Decker tended to stay in class, but she didn’t always behave herself. The Sports Illustrated siren copped to getting into a tiff with a teacher over a proposed yearbook layout. “My friend Ashley and I were in this class. I was the senior class president and Ashley was student body president, and the yearbook teacher did not want to give student council a page in the yearbook,” she said, explaining, “We funded all these clubs and we support all these clubs through spirit week and so we thought we deserve a page in the yearbook.” Their teacher suggested the go-getters in student council give up some yearbook space to a club that featured people who wouldn’t get any shine in the school-pride tome otherwise. Apparently not one for compromise, Decker lost it. “We started yelling things at one another and by the end of the class Ashley took a trash can and just chucked it at a wall. And I walked out of the class, and I went like this [makes a provocative gesture] and I yelled, ‘Suck it!’ to my teacher,” she said. “The Vampire Diaries” starlet Candice Accola also made a statement when she was 17, although it was with her hair and not her hollering, dying her tresses red to stand out. “It was very overwhelming at the beginning,” the former Miley Cyrus backup singer said of heading to Hollywood to jump-start her music career. “You feel like such a little guppy in this giant ocean. And I just never felt like anyone ever remembered me. I’d meet people constantly and try to make an impression.” Accola decided she could ignite some attention by turning ginger. “I thought I’d be edgy and dye my hair red,” she said. “And I dyed my hair, like, Jessica Rabbit red. It kind of allowed me to have this whole new confidence and this whole new swagger and this whole new sense of self. It kind of brought out the inner rock star in me. I had never dyed my hair like that, and no one forgot me after that.” “When I Was 17” airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV Related Videos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 8 | Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker, Candice Accola Related Photos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 8 | Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker, Candice Accola

Brooklyn Decker Recalls Telling Off A Teacher On ‘When I Was 17’

Supermodel remembers heated argument over yearbook in latest episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Brooklyn Decker on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV Brooklyn Decker is a catwalk-strutting supermodel who can induce whiplash with her swimsuit-clad curves, but in high school the siren had more of a passion for politics than fashion. On the latest episode of “When I Was 17” — which premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV — Decker recalls getting into a heated argument with her teacher over a yearbook layout that would have left her beloved student council out of the tome. “My friend Ashley and I were in this class. I was the senior class president and Ashley was student body president, and the yearbook teacher did not want to give student council a page in the yearbook,” she says, explaining, “We funded all these clubs and we support all these clubs through spirit week and so we thought we deserve a page in the yearbook.” However, their teacher, Ms. Smith, explains that since the student council was full of go-getting teens active in several clubs that would’ve gotten some shine elsewhere in the annual volume, perhaps preserving space for those other organizations would help spread the yearbook love. “We had one page left in the book,” the teacher recalls. “We were trying to decide what group would get that one last page, and I said, ‘Listen guys, the same people who are in student council are in lots of other things and so I think we should give the page to this less visible group in the school.’ ” But Decker wasn’t having it. Her friend Ashley says, “Brooke just like, lost it,” a reaction the model doesn’t deny. “We started yelling things at one another and by the end of the class Ashley took a trash can and just chucked it at a wall. And I walked out of the class and I went like this [makes a provocative gesture] and I yelled, ‘Suck it!’ to my teacher,” she says. Decker jokingly chalks up the outburst to an overload of heart-racing energy drinks. “I don’t know what came over me, I was crazy in high school,” she says. “I was like, all hopped up on Red Bull or something, I don’t know.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker and Candice Accola — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV.
