Get excited Twilight Nation! And the rest of you, well, deal with it: Summit tonight confirmed the inevitable reality that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be broken into two films. Both are to be directed by Bill Condon in one contiguous production; the first installment will be released Nov. 18, 2011. No release date (and no title, for that matter) has yet been announced for Part II. Squeeee accordingly.

As the recently-chosen director of Breaking Dawn , Bill Condon has a message for fans: The movie is in good hands! Seriously, the Oscar winner behind Dreamgirls really does have this message. He posted it on Facebook over the weekend: Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland, I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making BREAKING DAWN. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right. I’ve read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for ‘newborn’ status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere. I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert , and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that? Sounds like Condon understands the challenges ahaead of him and recognizes the popularity of the world he has just agreed to take on. Let’s welcome him to the franchise, shall we?

The Twilight Saga will go out in style. It’s been confirmed that Dreamgirls director Bill Condon will helm Breaking Dawn , the final film in the franchise, as the Oscar winner signed off on the project today. He said: “I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book – and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience.” Breaking Dawn starts production later this year. It will feature, of course, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson in the roles that made them famous. Multiple reports, meanwhile, state that Breaking Dawn will be split into two movies . If this takes place, it’s safe to assume Condon will direct both installments. According to a press release that just landed in the ol’ Movieline inbox, that rumor that Bill Condon would direct the last Twilight installment, Breaking Dawn ? It’s now a reality. “As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book — and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience,” said Condon in a statement, though no mention is made of rumors that the film will be split into two parts, filmed in 3D, or include the ookiest teenage-boy-on-vampire-baby scene imaginable.
