Breaking Dawn Director Gave Fans ‘A Lot’ Of Sex

Bill Condon tells MTV News he tried ‘to give people the experience they had reading the book’ in ‘Part I.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Director Bill Condon on the set of “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Photo: Andrew Cooper/Summit a href=”http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/454504/moviemain.jhtml”> “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” features two of the most hotly anticipated moments in the entire “Twilight Saga.” First, love birds Bella Swan and Edward Cullen finally get it on. And later, in a far less tender scene, Bella endures a pretty gory birth to give life to her half-human, half-vampire daughter, Renesmee. Bill Condon knew all along that those two scenes were pivotal moments that he would need to get right onscreen. But keeping in mind the PG-13 rating the studio wanted to preserve, the director also knew that he had to tackle those intense sequences without going too far over the line. When MTV News caught up with Condon, he predicted that fans will be pleased with the final product (especially the sex scene), which hit theaters on Friday (November 18). As in the novel, the honeymoon scene plays out mostly through Bella remembering the passionate night the morning after, which allowed Condon to show the event in several parts. “I think when you see the movie you’ll see, you think you get it and then you get more of it and then you get more of it, which I think was part of the intention because it’s such a big thing — everyone’s been waiting for it,” he said. “We just wanted to make sure you got a lot of it when you got it.” And Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were good sports about the whole process, Condon said, though he admitted filming the steamy section got “kind of clinical.” The scene was carefully choreographed but the two lead actors were “so cool about it.” The birthing sequence, which easily could have pushed the film to an “R” rating, proved similarly challenging. Condon wanted to stay as true as possible to Stephenie Meyer’s depiction but he knew he couldn’t be too graphic. “You want to give people the experience they had reading the book, and that was incredibly powerful, the way Stephenie described it. “You can’t show everything, obviously, we have a [PG-13] rated movie,” he said. “But we did it through the point of view of Bella and what she can see as she’s giving birth. I think your imagination fills in a lot of that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . The video opens with Rebecca in the recording studio, where she’s putting the final touches on the inspiring song. “So it was really hard to shoot the first line ’cause I was supposed to be really serious and I’m not a serious person,” she admitted. “Having to be kind of sullen was hard. I kept smiling ’cause I’m a natural smiler, if you haven’t noticed.” The studio used in the video was especially important to the young star since it turns out one of pop’s greatest idols once recorded there. “It was great to be in that studio ’cause that was where Michael Jackson recorded ‘We Are the World.’ ” Fans who’ve seen the video know it’s a mix of celebrity moments and teen moments. Black explained, “I still like all the school footage that we put in,” pointing to a montage of her friends. “It was me having fun with my family and friends.” Black also danced a little in the video, thanks to some help from a few recognizable faces. “It was really amazing doing the dancing; a lot of the dancers were from ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ ” she said of Robert Roldan and Kent Boyd from the hit Fox show. “And I watch that show [so] I was intimidated at first. It was great to be around people that like what you like.” The video concludes with Black making her way to a red-carpet affair, where her name lights up the marquee. “When I was in front of all the flashing lights, it was crazy commotion,” she said, adding that she hopes her fans see that while red carpets are a part of the job, it’s definitely fun too. “These celebrities get lost in the whole world of fame, [and the video is to] show people how I stay grounded myself.” What’s your favorite part of Rebecca’s “My Moment” video? Robert Pattinson’s Edward ‘Becomes A Man’ In ‘Breaking Dawn’

Director Bill Condon says ‘Twilight’ star deftly tackles finale’s most emotional scenes. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: Summit Entertainment “Twilight” fans who’ve already read the best-selling books upon which the films are based have a sense of what to expect from the final two films when they hit theaters. Specifically, what emotional ups and downs will unfold onscreen, and which characters will be most impacted. “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon recently revealed to MTV News what he predicts will be the most emotional moments in the final installments. He also opened up about how stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have tackled the acting challenges presented to their characters, Bella and Edward. ( Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t read the books.) “There’s this really quiet moment when Bella discovers that she’s pregnant and Edward leaves the room having said, ‘Carlisle will get that thing out of you,’ ” Condon recalled, “and she realizes, ‘Oh my god, I’ve got trouble ahead.’ “Edward, the person she’s been longing for all this time is actually on the other side of this very basic issue about this baby that’s growing inside of her, and she puts all that aside and she turns and she has a moment where she catches herself in this mirror. It’s actually a scene, just Kristen alone, where she falls in love with the idea of being a mother and it’s just simple, but I think it’s very moving.” Condon went on to say that Pattinson’s work in the film is equally moving, noting how much he has evolved as an actor. “[Edward] really becomes an adult [in this film],” Condon said. “In the beginning, he has this beautiful toast to [Bella] where he talks about, ‘You’re so lucky if you find that one person who can see you for who you are and still accept you and allow you to move beyond who you’ve been.’ And that’s what Rob does in this movie,” the director added, “He sort of puts aside Edward’s self-loathing and all that stuff and actually becomes a man. “So at the end, when Bella’s given birth and she’s died and he’s trying to bring her back, there is stuff in there where the camera just holds him for a long time where he’s just doing everything he can think of to make her live and to beg her to live,” Condon revealed. “It’s just really powerful.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Breaking Dawn’ Soundtrack To Feature One Castmember

Director Bill Condon tells MTV News soundtrack for ‘Part 1’ already has about 15 songs in contention. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Photo: Summit Entertainment As with any great tale coming to an end, “The Twilight Saga” will bring things full circle in its two-part finale, director Bill Condon says. MTV News caught up with Condon at 2011 San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the final two installments of the franchise, and he told us that both movies, but particularly “Part 1,” will hearken back to Catherine Hardwicke’s 2008 “Twilight” flick, which started the onscreen phenomenon. “I always thought of ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1′ as a real companion piece to Catherine Hardwicke’s movie,” Condon explained. “Like, everything that got set up there gets resolved here. I think you’ll find that there are stylistic and other nods to that film.” Fans will also be excited to learn that some of the same principles will apply to the highly anticipated “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” soundtrack. Condon confirmed that Carter Burwell, who scored the first movie, will be back for “Part 1,” which means familiar themes like “Bella’s Lullaby” will be in play again for the first time since “Twilight” first hit theaters. With negotiations for the soundtrack still under way, though, Condon wouldn’t talk too specifically about which songs will be included on the album. But he confirmed that there’s a good chance that one of the “Twilight” cast’s musically-inclined stars will appear on the soundtrack. We’ll leave it up to fans to guess whether that means Robert Pattinson, Jackson Rathbone, Booboo Stewart or one of the other musical castmembers. “We’re just figuring out [the soundtrack] now,” Condon said during MTV News’ “Breaking Dawn” Comic-Con takeover , adding that they haven’t made deals with all of the featured artists yet. “We have a lot of [songs]. We have like 15, I think. ” Tell us who you’d like to hear on the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” soundtrack in the comments section! ‘Breaking Dawn’ Characters Wrestling With ‘Adult Concerns’

Director Bill Condon tells Comic-Con crowd that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s real-life growth parallels Bella and Edward. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit SAN DIEGO — Bill Condon was tasked with the difficult job of wrapping up the final two installments of “The Twilight Saga.” But judging by the glowing response to two brand-new “Breaking Dawn” clips at San Diego Comic-Con , so far it seems safe to bet he’s done a great job. But for the director, the task was as much about creating a finale that will please fans as it was making something that he could be proud of. During Thursday afternoon’s (July 21) “Breaking Dawn” panel in the Convention Center’s Hall H, Condon called the event “the most incredible test screening I will ever have,” because it was the first time he would be hearing fans’ reactions to part one of the last two “Twilight” movies. “It’s amazing in this movie how much happens,” Condon told the Comic-Con audience. “Bella’s getting married or Bella’s going to make love for the first time. People have been waiting for these moments, and everyone’s imagined them, so you do want to get to the essence of what people might want but you can only do it the way, ultimately, you think is the most beautiful or the most powerful.” “Twilight” fans’ possible reactions to a few scenes in particular have Condon feeling nervous, he admitted. “There are big scenes — the childbirth — that you just want to make sure that it’s as powerful and as complete as it could be,” he said. It helps that his two stars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, have come into their own as actors over the course of the movies. Condon called Stewart “the real deal,” while revealing that Pattinson was able to bring “more of himself” to the role of Edward Cullen in “Breaking Dawn” then he had in the previous installments. “They’re growing up. There was a year gap between the making of this movie and the last one, [‘Eclipse’], so they’re just a lot more comfortable in themselves,” Condon explained. “I keep saying it’s like ‘Twilight Grows Up.’ It’s adult concerns: they’re married now, it’s like they’re going to have a kid, it’s that kind of stuff. You could see that it’s connecting more to what their lives were like now than if they were still playing high school kids, because they’re not high school kids anymore.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Adam Sandler, Chris Rock Talk Richard Pryor Biopic

‘It’s all being worked on,’ Sandler tells MTV News, after losing director Bill Condon to ‘Breaking Dawn.’ By Eric Ditzian Chris Rock and Adam Sandler Photo: MTV News Richard Pryor died in 2005 at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of legendary comedy — and equally legendary debauchery. He was the guy a generation of stand-up comedians modeled themselves after, and he was the guy whose long-standing drug abuse — including a frightening incident in which he lit himself on fire while freebasing cocaine — stood as a warning to rising comics about the dangers of addiction and fame. Two of the comedians who rose to prominence in the decades after Pryor’s trailblazing comedic stylings, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock , are deep in development as the producers of “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?” a biopic about the funnyman. Eddie Murphy circled the Pryor role at one point, and before his death, Pryor himself anointed Mike Epps (“The Hangover”) as the guy for the part. But the gig eventually went to Marlon Wayans. Why? Rock had some answers. “Marlon Wayans, he did a screen test and it was just unbelievable,” Rock told MTV News recently. “It’s not just doing the comedy of Richard Pryor. He captures the vulnerability of Richard Pryor.” Long attached to helm the project, director Bill Condon should begin shooting “Is It Something I Said?” in the fall. But now that Condon has signed on to direct the conclusion of the two-part “Twilight Saga,” “Breaking Dawn” — also this fall — things seem to be getting complicated. Is Condon still on board? Will Sandler and Rock get their project off the ground? “Hopefully, soon,” Sandler said. “It’s all being worked on. Hopefully soon.” What do you think of Marlon Wayans playing iconic comedian Richard Pryor? Would you have cast another actor? Let us know in the comments!
