‘Glee’ Opens Hidden Portal To McKinley High? Darren Criss Investigates!
Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” was apparently the song of the week on Fox. Two hit shows on the network featured covers of it in as many nights! Tuesday, on Glee , Matt Bomer’s guest appearance as the older brother of Darren Criss’ character featured a scene in which the two duet on the catchy track. While it was something of an odd choice to have brothers singing this song, as its lyrics imply a breakup between a couple, the guys absolutely killed. Wednesday, on American Idol’s top seven performance show, Phillip Phillips and Elise Testone tag-teamed it. Which cover was better? Criss will take over for the ‘Harry Potter’ star in Broadway’s ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Kara Warner Darren Criss Photo: Joe Scarnici/ Getty Images “Glee” castmember Darren Criss is taking his show-choir skills to Broadway, replacing Daniel Radcliffe in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” The actor will have a three-week gig starting January 3 when the “Harry Potter” star departs the production, the Al Hirschfeld Theatre confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. Rumors have been swirling for weeks now that the spot would go to Criss, who has never before appeared on Broadway. But as recently as last week, the job was still up in the air. “Right now, honestly, I’m just trying to get my head screwed back on,” he told MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con. “I’ve been traveling around a lot, and who knows what the future holds? But if that’s something, who knows, that’d be great.” Criss first made a name for himself with “A Very Potter Musical,” which he created with his production company, Team StarKid. In it, Criss plays Harry Potter, and even though he made an appearance at the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” NYC premiere last year, he has never met the man behind the Boy Who Lived. “The fake Harry Potter has not met the real Harry Potter,” Criss revealed at Comic-Con. “Only in my dreams, and that’s probably as close as I’ll ever get.” Those dreams might come true now that Criss will need to begin preparing for his stint in “How to Succeed.” There will likely be some sort of torch-passing moment from Radcliffe to Criss, and maybe even a resurgence in fans’ hope to see the two Harry Potters perform together at some point. “If they saw Dan and I do a number, I think ears would bleed,” Criss said at the “Deathly Hallows, Part 1” premiere.

A week after his November 9 debut on the Fox musical series, Criss’ rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is a top-selling song on iTunes and the first “Glee” single to become a Billboard #1 single. Not surprisingly, the Internet’s been buzzing with rumors that Criss is being bumped from a recurring role to a series regular on “Glee.” But if that’s the case, it’s news to the actor. “The weird thing about that is, I hear it from all these different blogs and interviews. … It’s never really been officially confirmed to me,” Criss told MTV News. “I think the option is there and that they want to keep Blaine around.” Promotion speculation began swirling a day after Criss’ “Glee” debut as an openly gay glee club member from rival Dalton Academy (and potential love interest for Chris Colfer’s character Kurt). Deadline broke the news that Criss was in talks to become a series regular — a status that would take effect during the show’s already green-lit third season. Creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy seemed to confirm as much in an interview with AfterElton . “Darren has become such a sensation in one week, which I love,” Murphy told the website. “I think there’s a hunger for him and a positive relationship role model. He’ll definitely continue through the year and longer. We just signed a deal with him, so I don’t know.” Criss, who originally auditioned for the role of footballer heartthrob Finn Hudson (played by Cory Monteith), said that regardless of a potential promotion, he feels blessed to be a part of the hit series. “As of now, I’m just a guest star.
