Kat Von D Walks Off "Good Day L.A." Set

Kat Von D walked off the set of Good Day L.A. Wednesday, bailing on an interview at the last moment because she says producers went back on their word. The LA Ink star claims she agreed to discuss her breakup with Jesse James on the condition that it wasn’t mentioned by the anchor in the introduction. According to Kat, that simple request was flat-out ignored by anchor Jeff Michael, whose introduction highlighted Kat Von D and Jesse James’ breakup . Kat says she saw what was on the teleprompter before he read it, and even pulled a producer aside to have someone change the script. Didn’t happen. Von D says she “very politely” informed them that if it wasn’t changed, she wouldn’t go on. They either forgot to change it or tried to call her bluff … but she wasn’t bluffing. Kat pulled a Paris Hilton and peaced out. Later, during the show, the executive producer said Kat’s only request was not to bring up Sandra Bullock or Michelle “Bombshell” McGee . Kat said only, “I have no interest in going back on, but I wish them all the best.” [Photo: WENN.com]

Odd Future Run Wild At The Woodies: Watch Backstage Footage Now!

MTV News is with the L.A. collective as they take over Texas for South by Southwest. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Christopher “CJ” Smith and Dominic Masi Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images AUSTIN, Texas — If you’ve seen any of their performances — like, for example, their reign of terror last month on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” — then you probably knew what to expect from oddball L.A. rap collective Odd Future at the mtvU Woodie Awards on Wednesday: It was definitely going to be memorable, probably to the point of psychological scarring. And while what we got during the show was most certainly, well, odd (a pair of furry mascots, two beefy security guards, one masked little person, garden gnomes, rainbows and a whole lot of growling, to be precise), there was also a focused, snarling intensity to their set — perhaps due to the fact that, in their first South by Southwest, despite the thousands of other bands in attendance, Odd Future knew they were the center of attention. That much was apparent from the minute they arrived at Woodies rehearsals. Between photo-ops with Wiz Khalifa, hugs from Zoe Kravitz and onstage shout-outs from Pete Wentz, OF put on a show both on camera and off, tearing across the stage during rehearsals and then, minutes before stepping into the spotlight for their performance, pacing the backstage hallways, snarling and swearing, psyching themselves up, much to the delight (and terror) of those around them. (As one stagehand joked, “This is the best bar mitzvah I’ve ever been to.”) Much like last month, MTV News’ cameras were there , following the Odd Future crew every step of the way. And while we’ll be rolling out more in the coming days, in honor of their Woodies performance, here’s Odd Future seconds before stepping onstage. What did you think of Odd Future’s performance? ‘Jersey Shore’ Star Vinny Reveals His Onscreen-Hookup Secret

In new season, which kicks off tonight, Vinny tells MTV News he had to ‘drop that whole self-consciousness about being on camera.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Vinny Photo: MTV News By his own admission, “Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino came into his own during the show’s Miami-based episodes, trading his initial tentativeness in front of the camera on the Seaside Heights boardwalk for a fist-pumping swagger that netted him oodles of phone numbers and hookups in South Beach clubs. That’s not to say he’s always comfortable with a camera catching his every move. As the reality star confessed when he stopped by the MTV Newsroom, there’s no getting around the awkwardness of gettin’ it in while the cameras are rolling. “How do you do more than hook up with a girl when there’s a camera in the ceiling watching you?” he laughed. Somehow, though, he’s found a way. The key, Vinny explained, is to “drop that whole self-consciousness that you have about being on camera.” Helping matters is that he’s been with the same “Jersey Shore” production crew from the beginning, and while he’s not allowed to speak with the camera guys, they’ve created a sort of wordless bond with one another. “You kind of become family with the camera crew without saying anything,” he said. “If a camera guy is filming me and I’m macking on a girl, that’s like my boy watching me.” While Vinny has gotten to a place where he can play carefree kissy-face with a club-going gal, it’s the object of his affection who’s not always cool, calm and collected with a 10-camera crew surrounding her. But ever the gentleman, Vinny does his best to put his lady friends at ease. “The hardest part is the girl — she’s not used to it,” he said. “So me being a nice guy, I kind of feel for her at times. I just try to do whatever I can to make her feel comfortable in the moment.” The new season of “Jersey Shore” premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. ‘Glee’ Guest Star Darren Criss Not Yet A Series Regular

‘It’s never really been officially confirmed to me,’ Criss says of his rumored promotion. By Amy Wilkinson Darren Criss Photo: MTV News Darren Criss has been hitting all the right notes with “Glee” fans. A week after his November 9 debut on the Fox musical series, Criss’ rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is a top-selling song on iTunes and the first “Glee” single to become a Billboard #1 single. Not surprisingly, the Internet’s been buzzing with rumors that Criss is being bumped from a recurring role to a series regular on “Glee.” But if that’s the case, it’s news to the actor. “The weird thing about that is, I hear it from all these different blogs and interviews. … It’s never really been officially confirmed to me,” Criss told MTV News. “I think the option is there and that they want to keep Blaine around.” Promotion speculation began swirling a day after Criss’ “Glee” debut as an openly gay glee club member from rival Dalton Academy (and potential love interest for Chris Colfer’s character Kurt). Deadline broke the news that Criss was in talks to become a series regular — a status that would take effect during the show’s already green-lit third season. Creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy seemed to confirm as much in an interview with AfterElton . “Darren has become such a sensation in one week, which I love,” Murphy told the website. “I think there’s a hunger for him and a positive relationship role model. He’ll definitely continue through the year and longer. We just signed a deal with him, so I don’t know.” Criss, who originally auditioned for the role of footballer heartthrob Finn Hudson (played by Cory Monteith), said that regardless of a potential promotion, he feels blessed to be a part of the hit series. “As of now, I’m just a guest star. And I’m even happy with that,” he said. “I’d be happy to be a regular, and I’d be happy to stick around as long as they let me.” Do you want to see Darren Criss promoted to a series regular? Florence And The Machine Promise Flowers, Explosions For VMAs

Florence Welch she’ll try to re-create the ‘chaos’ of her ‘Dog Days Are Over’ video this Sunday. By James Montgomery Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch and MTV News’ James Montgomery Photo: MTV News On Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards , multiple nominees Florence and the Machine will take the stage for their biggest U.S. performance to date. It’s a huge opportunity for the U.K.-based critical darlings, who are only just starting their push here in the states. So just what can VMA viewers expect? Well, from what we can gather, there will definitely be machinery of some sort. And perhaps explosions too. Oh, and maybe even some floral arranging? Machine mastermind Florence Welch wasn’t about to reveal all the band’s secret plans for Sunday night, but she did let MTV News in on a few bits of information. “The machine for the actual show is something kind of different — the machine is never supposed to be the band. … It’s kind of everything and nothing; I can’t explain it,” she smiled. “But for the performance it’s going to be something quite … I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s going to be big.” Welch also confirmed that the Machine will be performing their much-nominated “Dog Days Are Over” (which is up for four awards, including Best Rock Video and Video of the Year), and that their VMA setup will match the kinetic feel of the clip. Within reason, of course. “What we’re trying to do is kind of encapsulate the video into a live performance,” Welch said. “There’s a lot of different characters in the video, and so I’m going to be trying to bring some of that. It’s just about the energy of the song, for me. It’s sort of energy and chaos. There’s people, like, actually physically exploding in the video, and hopefully that won’t happen. If everyone’s really into it, that’s fine with me, but we haven’t planned it.” Sounds like things may get messy on Sunday night. But explosions aren’t the only thing Welch is promising during the show. In a nod to her live sets (where she covers her mic stand in bouquets), she’s also going to adorn the VMA stage in flowers. We think. “Basically, the whole thing is just me arranging flowers, and then a load of people around me spontaneous combust, and that it’s it,” Welch laughed. “It’s going to be great.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.
