Selena Gomez: No Longer on Speaking Terms With Friend Who Donated Kidney

Back in 2017,  Selena Gomez underwent a life-saving kidney transplant . The donor was her longtime friend Francia Raisa, who risked her life in a procedure riddled with complications. Thankfully, both Gomez and Raisa survived the procedure. Their friendship, on the other hand, has officially been pronounced dead. According to a new report from Radar Online, Selena and Francia have not spoken in over nine months. “They haven’t talked at all since October,” a source close to the situation tells Radar. The news comes as a shock to many, as Selena repeatedly sang Francia’s praises in the weeks after her surgery. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me,” Gomez told Elle at the time. “I am incredibly blessed.” Selena tells the magazine she was so frail at one point that she was completely unable to perform the simplest of household tasks. “I couldn’t pick up my dog  — he’s 16 pounds. That was rough. I couldn’t walk him.” Despite her brush with death, there are certain lifestyle changes that Selena simply refuses to make. For example, while many who have had issues with their kidneys choose to steer clear of alcohol and other substances that might tax the organs, Selena has proudly proclaimed that she still enjoys the occasional glass of wine. “As far as my personal life, someone sees me having a glass of wine? I could give two sh-ts,” she told  Elle . “I’m not trying to hide. That’s my life.” While that’s certainly her prerogative, the folks at Radar speculate that Selena’s continued partying may have played a role in Rasia’s decision to end the friendship. Selena checked into rehab back in February, and many of her friends reportedly believe that drinking is one of the activities she should avoid for the sake of both her physical and mental wellbeing. We may never know exactly what led to the falling-out between Selena and Francia. But if Gomez was the one to pull the plug on the friendship — as is currently being rumored — we hope she can find it in heart to forgive her former friend. After all, she literally carries a piece of Raisa with her everywhere she goes.

Selena Gomez: Fighting With Kidney Donor Friend Over Justin Bieber?!

Selena Gomez recently underwent a harrowing ordeal that seems to have left her with a new lease on life and a closer bond with a friend who’s now been promoted to soul mate status. We’re talking, of course, about Selena’s decision to get back together with Justin Bieber . Yes, strange as it seems, Bieber and Gomez are once again an item following her breakup with The Weeknd . Did the timing of the decision have anything to do with Selena’s recent life-saving kidney transplant ? We may never know for certain how it impacted her feelings toward the Biebs, but sources say Justin decided to devote himself to winning Selena back when he learned that she almost died . Of course, as is so often the case with Justin’s love life, there’s a third party involved in this situation. This time, however, it’s not an anxious groupie nervously answering Justin’s Patrick Bateman-like trivia questions about how many hits he’s recorded. No, we’re referring to Francia Raisa, the woman who made a serious bid for the title of BFF of the Year by donating her kidney to Selena. It seems that like millions of others, Francia is not thrilled with the idea of a Jelena reconciliation. In fact, she’s downright against it. The reason, according to Radar Online, is simple: Francia feels that Justin will hurt Selena again, and she’s sick of consoling her friends for making the same mistake over and over. “Selena’s friends bore the brunt of her sadness when Bieber broke her heart time after time over all these years,” a source close to the situation tells Radar. “Everyone knows this reunion is very bad news,” the insider adds. But while Selena’s inner circle is apparently unanimously opposed to the rekindled romance, no one has voiced their opposition more loudly than Francia: “But its Francia who’s the most vocal — she’s saying she didn’t donate a body organ to save Selena’s life only for her to go and ruin it by running back to him,” says the source. We’re not sure how the rules work on that. If you donate an organ to someone, does that give you power over them for the rest of their life? If so, we need to get on this biological gift bandwagon. We don’t really need two kidneys, but we do need autonomy over the lives of our friends and family.

Selena Gomez: Demi Lovato is SO Brave! I Love Her!

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were both Barney actresses before becoming Disney stars as teens. Since then, though, their lives have taken down different paths — each with their own claims to fame, their own successes, and their own struggles. Demi recently shared a lot about herself in a documentary, showing how far she’s come but revealing that she still has a ways to go. And who spoke up to praise her for her honesty and bravery but Selena Gomez. Selena Gomez revealed her Lupus diagnosis back in 2015. The illness, which was constantly mentioned on House back in that medical drama’s heyday, involves Selena’s own autoimmune system attacking her healthy organs, perceiving them as intruders. Despite modern medicine, Lupus can still be deadly. Even with drastic treatments, including chemotherapy, Lupus has taken its toll on Selena Gomez, forcing her to undergo a kidney transplant in secret earlier this year.  It was actually her friend, Francia Raisa, who donated her kidney to Selena in a life-saving display of friendship and generosity.  Selena’s ongoing battle with Lupus has forced her to take multiple extended breaks from her career as an actress and from being one of the greatest singers on the face of the Earth. Honestly, as wonderful as it is that she was able to receive a kidney transplant, that’s not a cure. It’s a short-term solution for one particular problem. Some people are genuinely afraid that Lupus will claim Selena’s life. Demi Lovato has had more than her share of struggles too, however. In fact, Demi recently shared before and after eating disorder photos , highlighting her dramatic transition into being and feeling so much healthier. She’s also spoken at length about mental health — about bipolar disorder and especially about the debilitating effects of depression. Contrary to what some people might suggest, just because Demi’s illnesses are psychological doesn’t make them her fault. And it doesn’t make them somehow more deserved than Selena’s Lupus or anyone’s anything. Demi shared bits of her life and struggles in her documentary, Simply Complicated . But Demi also talks about how much personal progress she’s made. Demi promoted her documentary, which is on YouTube, via Instagram. Selena Gomez left an Instagram comment for all to see. “This was beautiful. I’m so happy for you.” Recently, Demi’s life has been full of many good things for her to celebrate. Selena’s praise continues: “You always continue to [be] bold and real. I wish more people were like you. Love you.” That is so wholesome. The world really would be a better place if more people were like Demi Lovato. Or like Selena. In the documentary, Demi speaks directly about her continuing battle with her eating disorder. “When I feel lonely, my heart feels hungry and then I end up binging and I don’t know how to figure out how to be alone.” A lot of people eat emotionally, even when they aren’t hungry. Demi’s situation is a bit more severe, which is why this is called a disorder. (Which means that solutions that work for most of us, like “oh I’ll knit instead of eating” or “just play video games that keep your hands busy” aren’t as helpful for people who might compulsively overeat) “One thing that I haven’t fully conquered is my eating disorder.” Eating disorders usually work a little like alcoholism — you might recover, but you never have a “normal” relationship with food. “Food is still the biggest challenge in my life. It’s something that I’m constantly thinking about.” That part is almost universally relatable, right? I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to eat today since last night. What makes it a disorder is that Demi has, in the past, struggled to stop herself from overeating — and then she dealt with self-loathing issues by throwing up. That’s bulimia, folks. Understanding that those battling mental illness aren’t just grappling with neurotypical impulses is important. It’s good that Selena Gomez has so much empathy for her friend. And it’s good that both of these talented stars are sharing their stories. View Slideshow: Demi Lovato: 19 Candid Confessions from Her Documentary
