Israeli Medical Scientists Discover Heart-Saving Algae

Israeli researchers and scientists from Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva (BGU) have recently discovered a strain of micro-algae that has enough polyunsaturated fatty acid to treat high blood pressure, cholesterol, chronic inflammation and potentially reduce the risk of heart attacks. According to research, the algae is the only known plant source capable of absorbing and producing the acid responsible for the production of good circulation in red blood cells. The plant also possesses high density lipoproteins (HDL), which transport cholesterol away from blood tissue and through the liver, in order for it to be put to use. Scientists believe that the algae mutant being studied has properties that could be highly beneficial in the treatments of a range of heart-related diseases. http://www.shalomlife.com/eng/12834/Israeli_Medical_Scientists_Discover_Heart-Sa… added by: datamined

Tesla Motors + Toyota = Match made in EV heaven

Is EV=TMC+Tesla a New Formula? mikecentrella | June 2nd, 2010 Tesla Motors and Toyota Motor Corporation Intend to Work Jointly on EV Development, TMC to Invest in Tesla TESLA MOTORS, INC. (Tesla) and TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) recently announced that they intend to cooperate on the development of electric vehicles, parts, and production system and engineering support. The two companies intend to form a specialist team to further those efforts. TMC has agreed to purchase $50 million of Tesla’s common stock issued in a private placement to close immediately subsequent to the closing of Tesla’s currently planned initial public offering. “I’ve felt an infinite possibility about Tesla’s technology and its dedication to monozukuri (Toyota’s approach to manufacturing),” said TMC President Akio Toyoda.” he went on to say, ”Decades ago, Toyota was also born as a venture business. By partnering with Tesla, my hope is that all Toyota employees will recall that ‘venture business spirit,’ and take on the challenges of the future.” “Toyota is a company founded on innovation, quality, and commitment to sustainable mobility. It is an honor and a powerful endorsement of our technology that Toyota would choose to invest in and partner with Tesla,” said Tesla CEO and cofounder Elon Musk. “We look forward to learning and benefiting from Toyota’s legendary engineering, manufacturing, and production expertise.” TMC introduced the first-generation Prius hybrid vehicle in 1997, and produced approximately 2.5 million hybrids in the twelve years since. Late last year, TMC started lease of Prius Plug-in Hybrids, which can be charged using an external power source such as a household electric outlet. The company also plans to introduce EVs into the market by 2012. Tesla’s goal is to produce increasingly affordable electric cars to mainstream buyers – relentlessly driving down the cost of EVs. Palo Alto, CA-based Tesla has delivered more than 1000 Roadsters to customers in North America, Europe and Asia. Tesla designs and manufactures EVs and EV powertrain components. It is currently the only automaker in the U.S. that builds and sells highway-capable EVs in serial production. The Tesla Roadster accelerates faster than most sports cars yet produces no emissions. "Children of All Ages Delighted by Enslavement of Topsy the Circus Elephant" – The Onion

I'm so, so, SO amazed at “The Onion,” who always publishess THE funniest “news” articles. This time, the staff of writers outdid themselves, and no one is laughing. I'm grateful as all hell for their clever contribution………. Children Of All Ages Delighted By Enslavement Of Topsy The Elephant June 2, 2010 | ISSUE 46•22 Photo: Topsy charms the crowd with a “silly hula dance” that he has been conditioned to fear performing incorrectly. TUCSON, AZ—Cheers, laughter, and applause filled the big top tent at the Ringling Bros. Circus Saturday as children of all ages were captivated by the savage enslavement of Topsy the elephant. Whether young or just young at heart, thrilled audience members watched with glee as a circus trainer forced the frightened Topsy to perform tricks by brutally poking and prodding the traumatized 4-year-old pachyderm. “He's such a funny happy elephant,” said 8-year-old Madison Helms, referring to the abused creature that spends the majority of his time chained up in a cramped, feces-covered enclosure. “He loves being in the circus!” The crowd reportedly let out loud gasps and vigorously clapped when Topsy stood up on his hind legs, an unnatural and excruciatingly painful movement that stresses and permanently damages the 8,000-pound elephant's joints. Topsy also delighted the audience after the trainer repeatedly thrust a hooked rod into his skin, causing the miserable animal to lift one leg and his trunk to simulate waving. “Aww…” said the assembled circus-goers, who were taken by the cuteness of the barbaric spectacle. Branden Helger, 9, said Topsy was his favorite performer at Ringling Bros. because the elephant knew how to do neat tricks like pretending to limp. The third-grader also excitedly pointed out the “cool necklace” clamped on the animal's foot. Topsy and the other elephant performers, who are separated from each other at all times, preventing the socialization that's so crucial to their well-being, received a standing ovation from the crowd when they marched into the center ring, nervously rocking back and forth. “Look, they're dancing,” said 5-year-old Jonah Meeks, mistaking the elephants' constant swaying for something that wasn't a maladaptive behavior caused by serious psychological trauma. “I can dance like an elephant, too. Look at me!” Unaware that the elephant was terrified of the glaring stage lights, deafening crowd noise, and constant beatings, Phil Wingren, who brought his family to the circus, remarked that Topsy must relish being a star. “Boy, that Topsy's got it made,” Wingren said to his children, referring to the mistreated, severely neglected creature, who is exposed to numerous diseases and receives no medical attention except when dirt is rubbed into his wounds to hide them from the public. “Always in the spotlight and everybody pampering you. That lucky elephant.” “Look, he even has his own ball,” continued Wingren, referring to the most hated object in Topsy's life. Attending the circus with her grandparents, Gretchen Anderson, 4, was delighted by Topsy and by the other pachyderms as well. “There's his mama,” Anderson said of an elephant unrelated to Topsy, who has not seen his parents since being torn away from them shortly after birth, and last nestled up to his mother when he tried to suckle at her corpse shortly after poachers killed her. “They have a big happy family.” Eyewitnesses who spotted the trainer patting the side of Topsy's body during the final trick were convinced the elephant and the man were best friends, though in fact the look of reverie on Topsy's face was the result of his daydreaming about stomping and crushing the cruel asshole's head like an overripe melon. http://www.theonion.com/articles/children-of-all-ages-delighted-by-enslavement-o… added by: EthicalVegan

Who Are Huwaida Arraf & Adam Shapiro? Gaza Flotilla Leaders Sheltered “Mike’s Bar” Homicide Bombers

A giant fact about the HAMAS Gaza Flotilla continues to be kept quiet by the mainstream media: Terrorists Adam Shapiro & Huwaida Arraf Led, Organized Gaza Flotilla Adam Shapiro and Huwaida Arraf–the leaders of the “Free Gaza Movment” and the organizers of the HAMAS Gaza flotilla–and their organization harbored several Islamic terrorists and homicide bombers, including those who blew up a Tel Aviv Bar. They founded and head up the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). In April, 2003, Shapiro and Arraf’s group, ISM, brought two Pakistani British Muslim terrorists into Gaza from Jordan under the guise of a fake travel and tours company. The men, Asif Muhammad Hanif and Omar Khan Sharif, spent the night with ISM and the next day at ISM’s Gaza office. Then, they blew up Mike’s Bar in Tel Aviv. Three Israelis were murdered and fifty were wounded in the attack. Some sources believe that their martyrdom videos may have been shot by ISM or at ISM’s offices. Shapiro, Arraf, and their ISM should have been prosecuted and put in prison for life at the very least for harboring the men who perpetrated the attacks, but nothing happened to them. Nothing also happened to them when a month earlier, in March 2003, they harbored Shadi Sukiya, in ISM’s Jenin office in the so-called West Bank, along with two Kalashnikov rifles. Sukiya was involved in several thwarted suicide attacks, including a planned suicide bus bombing in northern Israel in September 2002, another suicide attack in October 2002, and a planned suicide attack with an explosive suitcase in February 2003. And he was involved in planting explosive devices and shooting attacks against IDF troop and Jewish communities in the Jenin area. Adam Shapiro and his organization helped hide this murderer and then defended those actions. These are the people Adam Shapiro and Huwaida Arraf helped in their efforts to murder as many innocent civilians as possible. It’s the same type of people they brought over on the “peace” flotilla from Turkey. added by: crystalman

Feature Release: Facebook “Like” and Popularity Improvements

Despite our recent DDoS attacks, we managed to squeak out a feature release for the site last Tuesday. Unfortunately, the DDoS attack resumed shortly after. “For the love of Pete, tell me what was in the release!!” While this wasn’t a huge release (those are being reserved for later this month), we were able to sneak a few improvements in that you may have already noticed. Here’s the rundown: Facebook “Like” Those of you with Facebook accounts will find that sharing Current TV with your friends just got easier. Have you met the Like button yet? Chances are, you’re already familiar with it on Facebook, and now we’ve implemented Like buttons on all of our content, too. Have you told your friends about Mariana Van Zeller’s recent Vanguard documentary “Missionaries of Hate” yet? Make sure your Facebook account is connected to your Current profile, then visit the “Missionaries of Hate” page and click the “Like” button to share it with your friends and family on Facebook. Go ahead. Try it out. I’ll wait for you here. Popularity and Voting Updates A few weeks ago, we discovered a few kinks in our popularity-scoring algorithm thanks to a few cases where stories were pushed onto the homepage to prove a point. Your message was heard loud and clear, and I’m happy to report that we’ve deployed a couple of notable tweaks to the system that should vastly improve things going forward. First, your red votes will factor in more prominently going forward. For those of you familiar with gaming mechanics, our voting system needed to be re-balanced to better account for red votes. No longer! So, fire up your voting fingers. Vote up. Vote down. Vote often. Your votes help determine what belongs in the popular stories feed, so if something looks old, out of place, or you just don’t think it’s as important as other stories out there, you know what to do. But wait, there’s more. We’ve received a plenty of feedback from our community about the ability to push stories into popularity based upon multiple comments from a very few people on a thread. It goes something like this: Person 1: I think this is great. Person 2: @Person 1 — I disagree! Person 1: @Person 2 – Well, I disagree with your disagreement! Person 2: @Person 1 – OK, but your disagreement with my disagreement is disagreeable to me! Person 1: @Person 2 – Sir or Madam, PLEASE validate my disagreement with you! This exchange continues on for 40-50 comments, and the next thing you know the story is ranked in the top 10 popular stories on the homepage. Not cool, right? Well, we’ve now implemented a new addition to comment scoring that will factor for this sort of thing. We would like to see stories containing a wide spanning discussion, with input from a variety of people via comments and votes, not just the back-and-forth between a select few. So there you have it! We are already working on the next couple releases which plan to include revamped profile pages, new activity streams, and Twitter integration. Stay tuned! added by: mario_a
