Diplomats Set To Kick Off New Season of ‘RapFix Live’!

Reunited Harlem collective will take fans’ questions during Thursday’s live stream at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By MTV News staff The Diplomats Photo: Donjai Harlem, stand up! The Diplomats are reunited and the Uptown collective — Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey — are set to bring their revived outfit to 1515 where they’ll be our guests on “RapFix Live.” Dipset will kick off the second season of MTV News’ hip-hop live stream show on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. After an internal spat caused disruption among the charismatic crew, they slowly began repairing the damaged relationships. In February 2009, Cam’ron told MTV News that he and Jones had spoken for the first time in years. From that point on, the two childhood friends inched closer to a reconciliation that eventually resulted in their comeback concert this past November. “It’s a good feeling,” Jones explained to MTV News about the crew’s new mindset. “Everybody just comes to the table with their best. It’s brotherly competition so it only makes it better. Above all, we came back together for the brotherhood. We grew up together, so there was a love that was lost there. We regained that and it’s time for music.” The Dipset members will sit down with Sway to discuss the status of their comeback, from their forthcoming mixtape to their rumored deal with Interscope Records. “Shout-outs to Dre, that was the most incredible experience in my career,” Jones said shortly after a flick of Dipset working with the West Coast producer appeared online. “Dr. Dre came to our studio, which was even more incredible. That was dope. We got to do a few songs with him. He coached me a bit.” Fans can ask them anything they wish, by tweeting to @MTVRapFix with the hashtag #rapfixlive. Diplomats Announce Reunion Show, Talk Kanye West Dis

‘I ain’t got no problem with Kanye,’ Cam’ron says regarding ‘Runaway’ freestyle’s apparent jab. By Shaheem Reid Diplomats Photo: Donjai Jim Jones said the Diplomats are getting their “Kumbaya” on right now. The Harlem team is at peace, the camaraderie is heavy and Friday (September 24), on New York’s Hot 97 , they announced their Dipset reunion show. Jones, Cam’ron, Freekey Zekey and Juelz Santana told radio personality Angie Martinez that they will have their first performance in years November 27 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. “The table is bigger,” Juelz said. “It’s pretty much the same, in a sense. We all have the same respect for each other. Cam is still the Boss. Jim is still the Capo.” “But we all make one conscious decision,” Jones jumped in. “Everything you’ve seen thus far, it was all a conscious decision of everybody calling each other: ‘You sure you wanna do this? You OK with this? OK, we good.’ ” “You gotta look at people different,” Cam added about reuniting after having tasted success as individuals over the past few years. “I don’t want my mother talking to me today like she was talking to me when I was 8. I’m not 8 years old anymore. At the end of the day, you supposed to learn. You supposed to grow, and you know your stuff. We come from under the Dame Dash umbrella.” Recently, Cam threw a shot at another guy who was groomed in part by Dash, Kanye West. On a freestyle over ‘Ye’s “Runaway” beat, Cam rapped, “And Kanye, you a sucka n—a./ Dissed Dame, so my attitude is f— the n—a/ Stuck to Jigga, how you gon’ live with that?/ Took the beat, now come get it back.” “I ain’t got nothing to say,” Cam answered about why he jabbed at West. “Only thing I got to say is, a lot of people say I dissed Jay on that song. I didn’t dis Jay on that song. For real, I’m from Harlem. I respect people getting money. Jay is getting mad cake. I respect his hustle, his grind. … Everybody throw subliminals. They say subliminals and don’t wanna say who they throwing the shots at.” When asked what provoked the line on the freestyle, Jones said: “Blouses. Shouts to Kanye. It’s fun. It’s hip-hop. Cam is probably one of the best rappers in the past 10 years.” “I ain’t got no problem with Kanye, man,” added Cam, who said he was telling the truth about ‘Ye in his rhymes. “He didn’t really dis him on the record,” Jones jumped back in. “He just pointed something out.” Are you happy the Dipset are back together? Angelina Jolie Talks ‘Salt’ Sequel

‘I love to punch things,’ she said of her role as a CIA agent. By Eric Ditzian Angelina Jolie in “Salt” Photo: Andrew Schwartz All “Salt” was missing at its twisty end was a “To Be Continued” graphic. Angelina Jolie’s spy thriller was engineered for a sequel. Its main storyline came to a close with the titular hero out of immediate danger and setting off on a new quest for revenge. And “Salt” performed admirably against “Inception” earlier this summer, opening to $36 million in ticket sales . Now there’s been some tentative movement on a second film. Jolie is keeping her fingers crossed that everything works out. “I hope so, for everybody — if they want to see more of Salt,” she said at the film’s London premiere on Monday (August 16), according to the Press Association . “I love doing action. I love to punch things, jump off things and shoot, so I’m lucky I got the job.” But Sony is said to be waiting to see how “Salt” performs internationally before the studio commits to backing a sequel, the Los Angeles Times reports. Director Phillip Noyce has been reported as interested in reprising his directing duties, and writer Kurt Wimmer is said to be developing ideas to continue the story. Jolie hasn’t yet lined up her next project. “The Tourist” is now behind her and other projects, like the Tim Burton flick, “Maleficent,” are not yet ready to ramp up. But from what she’s been saying, it seems that she’s eager to return to “Salt” territory. “The other action films I did are based on fantasy while this character is based on reality so we had to make her tougher and meaner,” she said. “Salt fights aggressively, in face-to-face combat. In some movies I’ve done, there’s been a temptation — because I’m female — to make the action nice.” Related Videos ‘Salt’ Clips Related Photos Brangelina, K-Cav, More At ‘Salt’ Premiere “Salt”

Cam’ron Says Reunited Diplomats Have ‘Eight, Nine Songs Done’

But they’re all focusing on their own projects as well, including Cam’s Gunz and Butta with Vado. By Shaheem Reid Cam’ron of The Diplomats Photo: MTV News While Cam’ron says the Diplomats haven’t yet found a label home for their reunion album, they’re still working together and have almost 10 new songs in the can. “It’s a few people that’s been getting at us, but the money’s not really where we want it to be,” Killa Cam told MTV News about label negotiations. “So we’d rather distribute it ourselves until somebody comes with the right amount of money. Jim is using the ‘Salute’ record as his single, so we’ll build off of that. But basically, with the Diplomat thing, everybody is gonna do it, but we got obligations.” Cam’ron was also quick to point out that everyone is on speaking terms, but they all have records they’re working on outside of the Dipset project as well. “Jim got his album he definitely gotta turn in,” he said. “[Me and Vado] got this Gunz and Butta thing. Juelz is putting his album together. Nobody wants to stop where they already have contracts and obligations, but we working too. We got eight, nine songs done.” Cam, Juelz, Freekey Zekey and Jim Jones recently released the song “Salute.” Cam said Jones spearheaded their first song together in years. “Jim’s got a good work ethic too. His work ethic is crazy,” Cam explained. “He’s in the studio all the time. I’m in the studio. The producer AraabMuzik is signed to DukeDaGod. Araab went and took Jim some beats. I already had the beat [for ‘Salute’]. Jim said, ‘Let’s do something to this.’ We got it done. “It wasn’t no big story behind it,” Cam added. “He sent me the record, I did it. He went to Juelz’s studio, I knocked it out. Jim comes by my crib where the studio at. We sit down for two, three hours, and we go in the basement and knock the songs out. I’m not gonna sit here and act like some spaceship landed or a boat docked. Jim comes by the house, we go in the basement, we smoke, do the song, that’s it. We go back in another two, three days and do the same thing.” While there’s no concrete date for the Diplomats album, Killa says his and Vado’s LP Gunz and Butta should be out around September 28, with a mixtape from the two dropping first. On the album’s cover, you see Cam and Vado dressed in suits, standing in a boardroom with the New York skyline behind them. “At the end of the day, we just hanging on the block, so you see we dressed like whatever,” Cam said of the Gunz and Butta cover. “When it’s time to get corporate, we’ll throw on that suit and tie and go to the penthouse, have a roundtable meeting. We know how to balance the beam. We know how to get street, but we know how to get cleaned up also. That’s why we named the album Gunz and Butta, just to let you know: We know our balance.” Are you looking forward to new Diplomats music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists The Diplomats

Gucci Mane Says Warm Post-Prison Reception ‘Strengthens’ Him

‘I feel like I got a whole new beginning,’ the rapper tells Atlanta DJ Frank Ski morning after his release. By Shaheem Reid Gucci Mane Photo: Warner Bros. The “Welcome Home Gucci Mane” campaign is in full swing. On Wednesday night, Gucci’s good friends Shawty Lo and DJ Holiday were waiting at the Fulton County Jail to greet him upon his release. On Wednesday night, a host of other Gucci supporters gathered at the Georgian Terrace hotel in Atlanta for a dinner honoring the ATL street heavyweight. Monica, the Diplomats’ Chubbie Baby, Big Boi, Wale, Kandi Burruss, Jazze Pha, DJ Drama and L.A.D., Sean Garrett, Waka Flocka Flame and, of course, Lo and Holiday all came out to show love. Gucci LaFlare was a guest on the DJ Frank Ski V103 morning show on Thursday (May 13), where he reflected on the previous night’s festivities. “It makes me feel good. It strengthens me even more,” the Atlanta rapper said. While on-air, Gucci also revealed that his next album, The State vs. Radric Davis: The Appeal, is due out at the end of August. He told listeners that he would want to work with Andre 3000 and Jamie Foxx on this follow-up to his December ’09 project. When asked how jarring it was for him to go to prison last year, right before the release of The State vs. Radric Davis — an album that had the potential to be his superstar-making effort — Gucci said knowing some months earlier that he was going in made it somewhat easier. “It was little behind the scenes things that everybody didn’t know,” Gucci explained to Ski. “They had a warrant for my arrest about four or five months before I even went in. So I was already dealing with it. I was trying to do all I could in case I did go to jail, so I could keep it going. “I feel like I got a whole new beginning, like my career just started again,” he added. Dame Dash Contemplates Bringing Diplomats Back To Roc-A-Fella

With Cam’ron and Jim Jones’ recent fence-mending, Dash says it could be great under the right circumstances. By Shaheem Reid Dame Dash Photo: MTV News In Mixtape Daily on Monday, Dame Dash announced that he’s relaunching Roc-A-Fella Records , with his first release being Curren$y’s Pilot Talk which is due June 15. Dash also has plans to put out Ski Beatz 24-Hour Karate School mixtape on the label as well. But what about bringing back a team that was affiliated with the Roc in their prime? Now that Cam’ron and Jim Jones are back on speaking terms and planning to release music together, would Dash bring the Diplomats back to Roc-A-Fella? “Um, under the right circumstances,” Dash answered. “As long as everyone is happy, as long as the quality of living is never compromised, as long as everyone is on the same sheet of paper — of course. It’d be great. Anything is great under the right circumstances but a dream could become a nightmare when everyone doesn’t have the same agendas. That’s just a general statement.” Dash said that with Jim and Cam reuniting — at least personally, so far — the duo have set a great example for the music industry. He suggested that that maybe he and Jay-Z should have followed a similar route. “I’m more happy than anything that they’re friends — that they were able to salvage their friendship, if that’s the case,” Dame said. “I think they’re better than me for that: being smart enough and humble enough to apologize to each other and move forward. I really do hope that where I failed to be the right example, that they can be that. You always want the people ahead of you to do better than you anyway. For that, I gotta give them props for being men above anything.” Related Artists The Diplomats Dame Dash

Cam’ron Ready To Make A ‘Classic’ Mixtape With DJ Holiday

‘I could do a mixtape in three hours,’ Cam tells the DJ, in Mixtape Daily. By Steven Roberts DJ Holiday Photo: Aphiliates The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Cam’ron has been a busy man lately. Besides reconciling with Jim Jones and announcing the possible reunion of the Diplomats, he made a surprise appearance at Converse’s Band of Ballers tournament as both “assistant coach” and basketball player, helping the Jones Family squad secure their second consecutive title. Cam’s also preparing for the third release in his and DJ Drama’s mixtape series, Boss of all Bosses 2.5. MTV News caught up with Cam over the weekend at the Atlanta tourney, where we also spoke to DJ Holiday, and it seems everybody wants a piece of KFC. “Me and Cam need to do something … a Holiday Season or something. I know you know the brand,” the DJ said, referring to his popular mixtape series. “I could do a mixtape in three hours,” Cam challenged. “Let’s stop talking and do it.” “I can block out about four hours, and we knock out a Holiday Season and make a classic,” Holiday said. “I know you make mixtapes with everybody, but when you do one with the kid, it’s a little different experience.” The “killa season”-meets-“holiday season” collaboration was a no-brainer, said Cam, ready to cement plans. But first, Holiday said, he had some other projects in the works, including the upcoming release of Waka Flocka Flame’s latest mixtape, tentatively titled Flockaveli, which he described as crazy fighting music. And with Gucci Mane’s release from jail a little more than a week away, Holiday said he and Gucc would be preparing a follow-up mixtape: Writing’s on the Wall 2: The Appeal. “I just dropped that [Gucci Mane mixtape] Burrprint HD. It’s in stores right now. We did 20,000 first week; #1 on iTunes. At the end of the day, we finnin’ to make a movie,” Holiday said. Gucci “gets home in probably about 10 days, so you already know we taking over, 10 days. Writing’s on the Wall 2: The Appeal coming soon. I’m trying to win, man.” Should Cam collaborate with DJ Holiday or stay focused on a possible Diplomats album? Let us know in the comments! Cam’ron, Jim Jones Reunite On The Court At Band Of Ballers Tournament

Cam’ron joins Jones’ basketball team for Diplomats reunion at Converse event on Saturday. By Steven Roberts Cam’ron and Jim Jones Photo: MTV News Jim Jones’ Jones Family team took home Converse Band of Ballers Tournament trophy for their second consecutive time on Saturday, but the day’s main talking point was Jones’ surprise teammate. Cam’ron’s arrival at Clark Atlanta University caused quite a stir, as fans and media swarmed the Harlem rapper. Cam barely had a chance to enjoy the Jones Family’s physical win against Shawty Lo and OJ Da Juiceman’s team, Southern Hospitality. “The Jones Family won by one point,” Cam told MTV News. “I thought I was on Rikers Island, watching the game just now. They’re fouling up everybody. Jim got out there for a while, wild bully. It was a good win for the Jones Family.” Cam eventually donned the Jones Family’s gold uniform and played in the championship game against Southern Hospitality. But all that basketball didn’t keep fans from wondering about the status of the Diplomats’ reunion . Cam and Jim have enjoyed modest success since they parted ways in 2007, but they were arguably at their peak when the Diplomats flooded the game for a better part of the past decade. Cam confirmed they have started working on new material. “We working, everything is working,” he said. “Right now, we’re doing a couple of songs. We’re trying to get the business together. Right now we’re just doing music.” They still have solo material to release too. Cam said the next installment of Boss of All Bosses with DJ Drama should be dropping Wednesday, and Jim said he was about to work on Coke Rush Pt. I with DJ Scream. Jones maintained that they are going to start working real heavy on their Diplomats project . “Me

Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil Show Details Revealed

‘The entire catalog is open to us … [his unreleased songs] could also be a part of our new shows,’ Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre says. By Larry Carroll Michael Jackson Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage BEVERLY HILLS, California — Since his shocking death , Michael Jackson’s estate has seen an unprecedented level of earning, putting the King of Pop on a trajectory that rivals music’s all-time greatest entertainers. Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil has spent the last few years staging elaborate tribute shows to the likes of Elvis and The Beatles. If any doubt remained that MJ belongs on that legendary level, the two entities are now joining forces for a series of groundbreaking shows that will entertain, embrace and establish the iconic superstar. “We came to an agreement with Michael Jackson’s estate to create and produce two shows,” Cirque du Soleil President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Lamarre revealed to MTV News. “One show is going to be an arena show at the end of 2011 and will tour for one year in North America and then tour around the world for many years to come. At the end of 2012, we’ll also open a permanent show in Las Vegas.” The overall effort is referred to only as the “Michael Jackson projects” for the time being, and as anyone who has seen such Cirque shows as “Ka,” “Love” or “Viva Elvis” will tell you, the company isn’t lacking when it comes to production spectacle. The Estate of Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil will each own 50 percent of the projects, sharing equally in the cost of creating, developing, building and producing the shows; the Michael Jackson estate will also receive royalty payments for the King of Pop’s music. “The entire catalog is open to us … we don’t know [which songs we’ll use] yet, but obviously all of the people will be looking for the big hits of Michael Jackson; we don’t want to avoid that,” Lamarre said of plans to incorporate not only classics like “Thriller,” but also never-before-heard tunes. “We want to make sure that we will meet musical expectations from the fans. At the same time, [Michael Jackson estate executors] John McClain and John Branca are also that they want to make with Sony music — and that could also be a part of our new shows. “There will be two different approaches,” he explained of the distinction between the MJ/Cirque shows. “For the arena show, there will be a simulation of a concert of Michael Jackson, and we will use some technology to make sure that people feel and see the presence of Michael Jackson. “The new technology that we want to bring to [the permanent] Vegas [show] will be more theatrical,” he said, adding that although the show doesn’t have a home yet, it will be in one of the MGM Mirage (Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo) hotels, which will likely be retro-fitted with Michael Jackson-themed elements within its hotel and casino. “They will see Vegas become the home of Michael Jackson and people will come from all over the world to experience the uniqueness of the technology that we want to bring there.” Some might wonder how anyone could hope to revive such a unique performer onstage — Lamarre said the answer is to simply bring back the man himself. “I think we can use some 3-D technologies and hologram technologies to allow people to see Michael Jackson onstage,” he said of Cirque’s intriguing idea to put Michael alongside the living, breathing Cirque performers. “If you are an MJ fan, you want to see him, and we have to find the best, most innovative way to bring Michael onstage.” As for the plot or theme of either show, Lamarre said, “We’re not there in terms of the creative process, but normally we don’t like to be literal,” shooting down any notion that the show would play like a biopic or narrative about MJ’s life and death. “I would like to think it would be more of a theatrical tribute to Michael. We don’t necessarily think of chronology or story lines or anything. It will be more of an extravaganza-type of show, like Michael used to do.” Would you see a Michael Jackson-themed Cirque du Soleil show? Let us know in the comments below!
