Time’s Up Adds Powerful Black Woman To Team Amid Cosby And Kavanaugh Hell

More:

T ime’s Up will presumably be stepping up its efforts against sexual harassment with the addition of a new leader. The organization has enlisted WNBA President Lisa Borders , a Black woman, to become its inaugural President and Chief Executive Officer. RELATED: Time’s Up Just Made A Major Move On Their Grind To Fight Sexual Harassment Borders will be leaving her prominent WNBA role for the new position after three successful seasons, the league announced Tuesday. She said she planned on still supporting the league at Time’s Up. She was also starting the role at a significant time with several women who have shared their assault accusations about convicted actor Bill Cosby and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh . What exactly could be Borders first orders of business at the anti-sexual harassment organization? Just announced: WNBA President Lisa Borders is stepping down from her position to become the first-ever President and Chief Executive Officer of Time’s Up. NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum will oversee the WNBA on an interim basis. https://t.co/XfayEm6xKZ — WNBA (@WNBA) October 2, 2018 We are thrilled to welcome Lisa Borders as our first-ever President and CEO! https://t.co/xc3HrMv4ee — TIME'S UP (@TIMESUPNOW) October 2, 2018 First, Borders could be vocal about the organization’s push in calling for senators to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation. There has been much talk about the FBI launching a sexual assault investigation into Kavanaugh as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and other women have come forward with allegations. Time’s Up is, of course, in a pivotal position to press this issue, especially with the help of Borders. Call your senators to demand that there be no vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation until the FBI finishes a thorough and complete investigation with no artificial time line. On Monday, Time’s Up announced its involvement in supporting an open letter by Reel Equity urging the entertainment industry to close the pay disparity for women. We've signed @ReelEquity 's open letter calling on the entertainment industry to address the gender pay gap for women working behind the scenes in Hollywood. https://t.co/FLNdTvOTfq #ReelEquity — TIME'S UP (@TIMESUPNOW) October 1, 2018 It was also worth noting that Borders is the latest Black woman to step up to lead a prominent organization or well-known business. Several beleaguered companies have turned to African-American women, including Papa John’s ‘ appeal last month to  Bozoma Saint John. The Entire Board Of USA Gymnastics Resigns Following Disgraceful Sexual Abuse Case

Scott Olson/Getty Images Entire USA Gymnastics Board Asked To Step Down Every member of the USA Gymnastics board announced they will resign after the U.S. Olympic Committee forced its hand on Thursday, demanding the remaining members step aside before January 31, otherwise facing termination by the sport’s national governing body. A USA Gymnastics spokeswoman told ABC News Friday, “USA Gymnastics will comply with the USOC requirements.” Of course, the move by the  USOC  comes in the wake of Larry Nassar’s sentencing on Wednesday to 40-175 years in prison for the sexual assault of  nearly 160 U.S. gymnasts under his care. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving girls who were 15 years old or younger. USOC Chief Executive Officer Scott Blackmun made these demands in a letter addressed to the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors on Thursday. They acknowledged the board’s recent resignations, but called for further steps to entirely reboot the organization since there were 16 board members who had yet to step down. An excerpt from the letter states: “We are also aware of the recent resignations of USAG board chair Paul Parilla and three other board members. Now that these steps have been completed, USAG must build on them with a categorically fresh start at the board level.” The letter does not implicate that the board had anything to do with covering up the Nassar allegations, but instead states the “culture needs fundamental rebuilding.” McKayla Maroney, who won a gold medal as part of the women’s gymnastics team in 2012, filed a lawsuit against USA Gymnastics and the USOC in December, saying they “failed to properly investigate, disciple or remove” Nassar.

Rupert Everett Creates Stir with Anti-Gay Parenting Comment

Rupert Everett has stirred up quite a bit of controversy with comments made to The Sunday Times Magazine in Great Britain. The actor, who came out of the closet at age 18, told the publication that his mother has met his boyfriend and gets along with him very well – but would prefer if her child came home instead with a wife and kids. “She thinks children need a father and a mother and I agree with her,” Everett said. “I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads. Some people might not agree with that. Fine! That’s just my opinion.” Expecting backlash, Everett added: “I’m not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don’t feel like I’m part of any ‘community.’ The only community I belong to is humanity and we’ve got too many children on the planet, so it’s good not to have more.” Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall (a British gay rights group) reacted swiftly to Everett’s comments, releasing a statement that reads: “Rupert should get out a little bit more to see the facts for himself. There is absolutely no evidence that the kids of gay parents suffer in the way they are being brought up or in how they develop.” What do you think of Rupert Everett’s anti-gay parenting stance? It is…

When The Checks Stop Coming In: Best Buy Is Closing 50 Stores, Firing 400 Employees, And Missing Revenue

Best Buy Closing Stores and Firing Employees How many of y’all still shop at Best Buy??? Electronics retailer Best Buy announced it would close 50 big box locations in the U.S. as it refocuses its operations around mobile. The company said it will launch 100 new mobile locations as it retools its domestic store format. The announcement was timed with the company’s fourth quarter report, where it sharply beat analyst expectations on the bottom line. Over the final quarter of 2011, revenue grew three percent to $16.6 billion while earnings per share hit $2.47. However, analysts polled by Bloomberg had forecast top line results of $17.15 billion, some $500 million more than the company reported. The quarter also benefitted from an extra week in the company’s fiscal calendar — excluding the week would mean revenue actually fell 1.1 percent. Shares were down 6 percent in the first minutes of trading. The company saw same-store sales decline 2.3 percent during the period, highlighting its difficulties as the U.S. economy gained steam during the first few months of 2012. Best Buy saw weakness across the board, with sales suffering in gaming, notebooks, digital imaging and televisions. Best Buy has rapidly been trying to turn its operations around as it has seen peers CompUSA and Circuit City fail. Consumers have been using its locations as a testing ground for products before making final purchases at competitors like Amazon and Walmart. Acknowledging the change, Best Buy Chief Executive Brian Dunn said the company would vastly alter its strategy from its long time big box format to boost returns. “These changes will also help lower our overall cost structure,” Dunn said. “We intend to invest some of these cost savings into offering new and improved customer experiences and competitive prices — which will help drive revenue. And, over time, we expect some of the savings will fall to the bottom line.” Source More On Bossip! Hillary Clinton Photo Op Interrupted By Streaking, Torch-Carrying Hawaiian

Hillary Clinton was posing for photos with Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang after their recent meeting in Honolulu when someone decided to crash that party. The Secretary of State must have caught it out of the corner of her eye, because a second or two after the fact, she realized what happened and seriously cracked up. A random, scantily-clad Hawaiian dude running around with a flaming torch while you’re trying to pose with a dignitary will have that effect. Pretty funny stuff: Hillary Clinton Streaker
