Kavanaugh Brings His Voter Suppression Record To A Court That Just Upheld A State’s ID Law

N ewly minted Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh ’s approval of voter suppression laws was not needed in a high court ruling on Tuesday which allowed a state to enforce its voter ID requirement for the 2018 elections.   See Also: Brett Kavanaugh’s First Supreme Court Cases Will Seriously Affect Black America The court declined to overrule an appeals court order that permitted North Dakota to require government ID at the polls, The Hill reported. A group of Native Americans had challenged the ID requirement. Looking ahead, Kavanaugh brings a record on voter suppression cases that makes the court even less sympathetic to the concerns of people of color. Indeed, during his confirmation process, People for the American Way, a progressive advocacy group, warned that Kavanaugh “will threaten hard-won protections for the right to vote.” “The question is not whether Justice Kavanaugh will move the court in a more conservative and hostile direction on constitutional and civil rights, but instead how swiftly he will do so and how sweeping will the court’s rulings be,” Kristen Clarke , president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, said in a statement to NewsOne . These two Supreme Court cases being heard this week by Brett Kavanaugh will seriously affect Black America. https://t.co/sHqBzd41CN pic.twitter.com/T2XCom8iVv — NewsOne (@newsone) October 8, 2018 The Native American group argued that the ID law disproportionately affected their population because a significant number of Native Americans live on reservations without standard address required to obtain the IDs. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg  filed a dissenting opinion, which Justice Elena Kagan joined. As an appellate court judge, Kavanaugh “demonstrated his lack of commitment to racial justice” in a 2012 South Carolina voter ID case, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights said. Kavanaugh wrote an opinion for a three-judge panel upholding a South Carolina voter ID law that was objected to by the U.S. Department of Justice because of the significant racial disparities in the law’s photo ID requirement, the Leadership Conference explained. The ruling affected approximately 60,000 nonwhite voters who were previously registered. White Women Can’t Seem To Make Up Their Minds On Brett Kavanaugh

See the original post:

L et’s recap the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination, shall we? Donald Trump ‘s pick to be on the nation’s highest court has been accused of being a hot-headed heavy drinker who can quickly morph into an angry drunk; a sexual predator to the tune of plotting to drug and sexually assault women with his friends; getting into at least one bar fight; and tampering with witnesses who could unravel his increasingly flimsy nomination. Yet, even in the face of mounting evidence of Kavanaugh’s guilt in each of the above categories, and others, white women are statistically split down the middle when it comes to whether they believe the judge’s persistent denials of carousing and sexual debauchery from his days in high school and college. At least that was according to a brand new Quinnipiac poll that found the number of Americans who wanted Kavanaugh confirmed was shrinking while white women as a group were seemingly indifferent despite the salacious claims by college professor  Christine Blasey Ford . 80% of black voters believe Dr. Ford over Kavanaugh, as do 66% of hispanic voters. Only 40% of white voters do. When split by gender, 46% of white women believe Dr. Ford and 43% believe Kavanaugh, a statistically insignificant difference Only 37% of white men believe Dr. Ford. pic.twitter.com/EAfWlqm9Xj — Mangy Jay (@magi_jay) October 1, 2018 In case you’re keeping score, that’s 43 percent of white women who were siding with Kavanaugh versus 46 percent who said they believed Ford. It was also reported that another key white woman apparently didn’t believe Ford: Rachel Mitchell, the sex crimes prosecutor from Arizona who Republicans hired to ask Ford questions during her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. . @PBS : Rachel Mitchell writes in a new memo sent to Senate Republicans that she does not believe a “reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the Committee.” #SCOTUS #ConfirmKavanaugh https://t.co/lQFhuilFBd — Senate Judiciary (@senjudiciary) October 2, 2018 If Kavanaugh does get confirmed, this wouldn’t be the first time white women found themselves on the wrong side of history with an accused sexual predator in question. Fifty-three percent of white women voters cast ballots for Trump in 2016 even though he had admitted to using his celebrity to force himself on women, among other transgressions. In a CNN analysis published Tuesday morning, Ronald Brownstein wrote that “Ford’s detailed allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh could allow Democrats to solidify an unprecedented advantage among those women, who represent one of the few steadily growing components of the white electorate.” But if Monday’s poll was any indication, that wasn’t entirely correct. Time’s Up Adds Powerful Black Woman To Team Amid Cosby And Kavanaugh Hell

More:

T ime’s Up will presumably be stepping up its efforts against sexual harassment with the addition of a new leader. The organization has enlisted WNBA President Lisa Borders , a Black woman, to become its inaugural President and Chief Executive Officer. RELATED: Time’s Up Just Made A Major Move On Their Grind To Fight Sexual Harassment Borders will be leaving her prominent WNBA role for the new position after three successful seasons, the league announced Tuesday. She said she planned on still supporting the league at Time’s Up. She was also starting the role at a significant time with several women who have shared their assault accusations about convicted actor Bill Cosby and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh . What exactly could be Borders first orders of business at the anti-sexual harassment organization? Just announced: WNBA President Lisa Borders is stepping down from her position to become the first-ever President and Chief Executive Officer of Time’s Up. NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum will oversee the WNBA on an interim basis. https://t.co/XfayEm6xKZ — WNBA (@WNBA) October 2, 2018 We are thrilled to welcome Lisa Borders as our first-ever President and CEO! https://t.co/xc3HrMv4ee — TIME'S UP (@TIMESUPNOW) October 2, 2018 First, Borders could be vocal about the organization’s push in calling for senators to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation. There has been much talk about the FBI launching a sexual assault investigation into Kavanaugh as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and other women have come forward with allegations. Time’s Up is, of course, in a pivotal position to press this issue, especially with the help of Borders. Call your senators to demand that there be no vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation until the FBI finishes a thorough and complete investigation with no artificial time line. On Monday, Time’s Up announced its involvement in supporting an open letter by Reel Equity urging the entertainment industry to close the pay disparity for women. We've signed @ReelEquity 's open letter calling on the entertainment industry to address the gender pay gap for women working behind the scenes in Hollywood. https://t.co/FLNdTvOTfq #ReelEquity — TIME'S UP (@TIMESUPNOW) October 1, 2018 It was also worth noting that Borders is the latest Black woman to step up to lead a prominent organization or well-known business. Several beleaguered companies have turned to African-American women, including Papa John’s ‘ appeal last month to  Bozoma Saint John. Kellyanne Conway Reveals She’s A Victim Of Sexual Assault While Defending Brett Kavanaugh [Video]

Paul Morigi/Getty Images for Fortune Kellyanne Conway Reveals She’s Been Sexually Assaulted Kellyanne Conway made a jaw-dropping revelation Sunday while on CNN. The White House counselor was a guest on  CNN’s “State of the Union” and brought up her own history of sexual assault while defending Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. “I feel very empathetic for victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment and rape. I’m a victim of sexual assault,” said Conway. “But you have to be responsible for your own conduct.” She also argued that the Kavanaugh hearings were not a “meeting of the Me Too movement.” “Let’s not compare Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby, and a few others, to what’s happened here,” she said. “If we’re going to have a national conversation, stop judging the victims and perpetrators according to their politics.” She also clapped back at people wondering how she can possibly work for Trump whose been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct. “People on Twitter and elsewhere are saying right now, ‘oh how can she work for Donald Trump?’ I work for President Trump because he’s so good to the woman who work for him,” she said. “I don’t want to hear it from anybody.” Sure thing, sis. . @KellyannePolls to @jaketapper : “I'm a victim of sexual assault.” #CNNSOTU pic.twitter.com/ZQcmnFIicQ — State of the Union (@CNNSotu) September 30, 2018 What do YOU think about Kellyanne’s revelation?

L eave it to Fox News to always lower the bar of decency when it comes to their so-called political commentary. When discussing  Brett Kavanaugh ‘s accusers, Kevin Jackson, a Black Fox News contributor, referred to them as “lying skanks.” See Also: Bill Cosby Sentenced To 3 To 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Assault Conviction In a a tweet, Jackson wrote, “Feminists are their own worst enemies, and enemy of women. Lying skanks is what these 3 women are, and we ALL know more.” See below: I disagree. Feminists are their own worst enemies, and enemy of women. Also, they want men to NEVER be believed. The company wrote in a statement , “His comments on today’s hearings were reprehensible and do not reflect the values of Fox News.” You have to be soulless to not think  Dr. Christine Blasey Ford  isn’t credible. Even Republicans avoided attacking her. At the start of Ford’s testimony, she said, “I am here today not because I want to be. I am terrified. I am here because I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school.” She claimed in the summer of 1982 Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge , locked her in a bedroom. Kavanugh then “got on top” of her, covered her mouth and began “grinding his hips” on her. She managed to escape and never mentioned the alleged assault to anyone. Ted Cruz & Wife Got Chased Out of DC Restaurant By Brett Kavanaugh Protestors

The rest is here:

Source: Republican National Convention at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Featuring: Ted Cruz Where: Cleveland, Ohio, United States When: 20 Jul 2016 Credit: Dennis Van Tine/Future Image/WENN.com The Supreme Court nomination of alleged sexual offender  Brett Kavanaugh by alleged sexual predator-in-chief Donald Trump has got the resistance riled up in a way that hasn’t been seen since this administration was ripping families apart at the border and building concentration “summer camps” for kids (100+ kids are still orphaned thanks to this practice by the way). And just like before, everyday citizens have taken it upon themselves to call out Republican senators in public for their lack of empathy and overall immorality. On Monday night (Sep. 24) former Trump punching bag turned Trump lackey  Ted Cruz became the latest GOP representative to learn first hand that the resistance have no qualms about making their social life every bit as difficult as they’re making ours with their sexist and racially driven policies. In a video shared by Smash Racism DC, Ted Cruz and his wife found themselves being chased out of the Fiola restaurant in Washington DC by activists who were chanting “We believe survivors!” BREAKING. Activists just chased @TedCruz out of a fancy Washington DC restaurant, chanting “We Believe Survivors!” Cruz has been friends with creep Kavanaugh for 20 years. Now Cruz is on judiciary committee hearing his testimony. Fascists not welcome! #CancelKavanugh pic.twitter.com/7mx6Tc32za — Smash Racism DC (@SmashRacismDC) September 25, 2018 He gonna cry in the car. Cruz obviously wasn’t expecting to feel the brunt of the pushback from American citizens who aren’t a fan of his decades old buddy, Brett Kavanaugh. With protestors up in his grill like they paying his bills (they kinda are), Cruz was bombarded with the chants along with yells of “Vote no on Kavanaugh,” and “Are you going to confirm your best friend Brett Kavanaugh?” While we’re sure this will lead to more calls for “civility” from the Republican party we do wonder why that same calls for civility aren’t made when death threats are made to anyone who publically opposes Trump or his cronies. Kinda like the death threats that forced Christine Blasey Ford from her home after she came forward with her attempted rape accusation against Brett Kavanaugh. — Photo: WENN.com

Cory Booker Has More Receipts On Kavanaugh As Activists Try To Shut Down Confirmation

I f civil rights activists are looking for a strong chance at stopping Brett Kavanaugh ‘s confirmation, then Cory Booker may just be it.  The Democratic New Jersey Senator released more documents about the Supreme Court nominee on Wednesday night. RELATED: Brett Kavanaugh’s Dangerous Relationship With Race In America, Explained It’s clear that Booker is pulling out all the stops when it comes to bringing the controversial nominee’s record to light. He had already released confidential documents about Kavanaugh last week under the threat of a Senate Ethics Committee review and losing his Senate seat. In adding 28 more documents to the paper trail, Booker, who clearly isn’t here for Trump’s pick, is showing no signs of backing down from challenging the confirmation. We have added 28 new Kavanaugh “committee confidential” documents to the others publicly last week. All docs available here: https://t.co/n9IGe5UNgg — Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) September 12, 2018 With Booker and other Democrats’ fighting Kavanaugh replacing retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, the question is whether the Senate will consider the documents in their decision making. The documents are food for thought for the Senate Judiciary Committee, who met Thursday to discuss the matter. Senators will vote on the confirmation later this month, according to The Associated Press . The new batch of documents covers Kavanaugh’s role in judicial nominations and in the White House counsel’s office during the George W. Bush administration. The papers “raise more serious and concerning questions,” Booker said. Some documents show Kavanaugh’s connection to Bush’s nomination of Charles Pickering to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans — a 2002 move that was met with Senate opposition and questions about Pickering, a then-Mississippi federal judge, being racist. Pickering ultimately got the court seat. Kavanaugh testified before the committee that he was not “substantially involved” in Pickering’s nomination. At this point, senators have a total of 75 documents on the table about the nominee. An unapologetic Booker is on a mission in vetting Kavanaugh, who has been viewed by activists as a candidate that would undermine civil rights progress under instruction from Trump. I will continue releasing so-called ‘committee confidential’ docs because it is important that American people see Kavanaugh’s entire record. No effort to intimidate me into silence will keep me from my moral & Constitutional duty. https://t.co/Yptiy4q0W4 — Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) September 12, 2018 SEE ALSO: Omarosa Goes Ballistic On XM Radio Show, Calls Host A ‘B***h’ Amber Guyger Is Blaming Botham Jean For Getting Shot And Killed In His Own Home [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3404967″ overlay=”true”]

Gilbert Arenas Sentenced to Probation in Gun Case

Washington Wizards All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas was sentenced on Friday to two years’ probation for a gun-toting standoff in the NBA team’s locker room. The judge showed leniency to Arenas, who avoided serving jail time after pleading guilty to felony weapons possession for bringing four guns to work. Arenas must spend 30 days in a halfway house, perform 400 hours’ community service and contribute at least $5,000 to a fund for violent crime victims. The judge said he accepted responsibility , was genuinely remorseful, and was a “decent person” who performed acts of charity and kindness to strangers. Arenas, wearing a dark suit and tie while showing no emotion, admitted his acts were “stupid and irresponsible. I am very sorry that this all happened.” BANG, BANG : Gilbert Arenas won’t be doing time for packing heat, but he won’t be suiting up with his Washington Wizards teammates anytime soon . Under a plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to seek more than six months in jail for Arenas. But the judge in the case was not bound by the agreement and could have sentenced him to as little as probation or up to five years in prison. Prosecutors, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Kavanaugh, had recommended that Arenas, 28, receive three months of incarceration, three years of probation and be required to do 300 hours of community service. Kavanaugh told the judge Arenas had been convicted of a similar gun offense previously, that he gave multiple versions of the event, that he attempted to hide the truth and had failed to show genuine remorse. But it was not to be.
