Crikey, Mate: PETA Gets Obliterated On Twitter For Criticizing Steve Irwin On His Birthday

Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty People Aren’t Having PETA’s Criticisms Of Steve Irwin Animal rights organization  PETA is facing backlash once again, this time for criticizing Google and their decision to honor the late Australian conservationist and television personality Steve Irwin with his own Google Doodle. He was known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” but Steve Irwin wasn't exactly hunting crocodiles… he was saving them . He & his wife spent their honeymoon capturing crocodiles & the footage they shot became the pilot for #TheCrocodileHunter ! #GoogleDoodle → https://t.co/z8PPgDaXfr pic.twitter.com/9BXTXP8bk3 — Google Doodles (@GoogleDoodles) February 22, 2019 PETA President Ingrid Newkirk  issued in a statement about why the organization doesn’t approve of the tribute, saying: “PETA must ask who commissioned these dangerous, hagiographic cartoons of a man who died while harassing a stingray, dangled his baby while feeding a crocodile, and ‘wrestled’ wild animals who were minding their own business. This fawning, ignorant tribute is a slap in the face to the vast majority of people who acknowledge that wild animals are entitled to be left alone in their natural habitats.” They went on to tweet that Irwin’s actions were not on target with his “supposed message of protecting wildlife.” Steve Irwin’s actions were not on target with his supposed message of protecting wildlife. A real wildlife expert & someone who respects animals for the individuals they are leaves them to their own business in their natural homes. — PETA (@peta) February 23, 2019 Just like any time PETA does anything, people immediately started to go in on the organization not only for criticizing a dead man, but someone we all love and respect so much from our childhoods. the thing is… you as a company don’t actually give a fuck about any of what you’re saying about Steve Irwin. You knew that by dragging a beloved dead man’s name through the mud, you’d get more eyes and clicks on your brand. Ya know what you’re doing. Rage marketing works. — Ryan Magee (@elirymagee) February 23, 2019 Steve Irwin and his family reclaim land for animals and run a massive wildlife rescue. His life mission was to save animals and educate people about them. I’m one of many vegetarians who rip out their hair when @peta weighs in. Shame on you. https://t.co/m4fdNymjao — Maureen Johnson (@maureenjohnson) February 23, 2019 Damn Peta loves disparaging the dead for RTs https://t.co/FlbIvGhXuB — Matthew A. Cherry (@MatthewACherry) February 23, 2019 Basically everyone after seeing Peta's tweet about Steve Irwin pic.twitter.com/7nfZqbDjVt — Chase #HereWeGo (@ChaseM105) February 22, 2019 Man… I’ve never seen this website mobilize across cultural and political barriers before… until PETA came at Steve Irwin…. that dude really could’ve saved the world. Uniting twitter posthumously is God like. — Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) February 23, 2019 Criticizing PETA always seems to bring people together–especially when they’re going against the one-and-only Steve Irwin. As many people pointed out, Irwin’s family continues to do a lot for wildlife preservation, while those same statistics aren’t really on PETA’s side. Steve Irwin died on September 4, 2006 after being stung several times by a short-tail stingray–and even 13 years later, he’s still making an impact.

National Trust For Historic Preservation Launches #TellTheFullHistory Campaign For Black History Month

T he National Trust for Historic Preservation has been at the forefront of trying to protect landmarks across the country that are embedded in the fabric of Black history and are integral parts of American history as a whole. In observance of Black History Month, the nonprofit organization has launched a powerful campaign with the help of actors to spread awareness about the influence and importance of Black landmarks. The campaign—dubbed #TellTheFullHistory—features actors Phylicia Rashad , Tia Mowry-Hardrict , Aldis Hodge , and Marcus Scribner . In a video created for the campaign, each celebrity shares a personal story about an impactful experience that they’ve had or a personal connection to a historic landmark in an effort to illustrate how these places shaped our country. Hodge talks about the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The hotel was later transformed into the National Civil Rights Museum. Rashad highlights the Brainerd Institute which was a South Carolina-based educational institution for freed Africans during the Reconstruction era. Mowry-Hardrict talks about her grandmother’s journey to America and Scribner discusses the influence of the West Angeles Church in California. “This month and every month, we at the National Trust for Historic Preservation seek to tell the full history. By saving African American places, we not only celebrate the tremendous impact that African Americans have made to the life of our nation, we transmit that impact to the present and into the future,” said Brent Leggs , Executive Director, African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. “Having the voices of Phylicia Rashad, Tia Mowry-Hardrict and others join with us to advocate for preserving sites of Black history is powerful and a privilege. We all have places that tell our story and we hope by weaving together our narratives we can tell a fuller, truer, American story. We challenge you to tell us about a place that to matters to you.” The organization created a year-long campaign to preserve several places and has distributed $1.1 million in grants to different historic sites. Amongst the sites that received funding from the organization was Madam C.J. Walker ’s estate and the home where songstress Nina Simone grew up.  The grants were also used to expose youth to careers in preservation. Check out the #TellTheFullHistory video below. Social Media Reacts As Jay-Z Throws All His Resources Behind Freeing 21 Savage

Source: Shareif Ziyadat / Getty Instead of beefing with the next generation of Hip Hop, Jay-Z has been there to act as a big brother to some of the newer rappers coming up in the game. He put all of his resources behind making sure Meek Mill was released from prison last year and now he hopes to help 21 Savage . In case you missed it, Jay-Z called the arrest and detention of 21 Savage by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “an absolute travesty.” “His U Visa petition has been pending for four years” Jay continued, adding that “in addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately.” See the official Roc Nation statement below. Barbershop Books Empowers Black Boys To Read

A former educator is on a mission to promote literacy among Black youth. Through his program Barbershop Books, entrepreneur Alvin Irby is bringing literature to barbershops across the country to inspire young African American boys to read, the Tuscaloosa News reported. “Once you figure out how students identify,” @AlvinIrby says, “then you can begin to craft [reading] experiences that are customized to who they are and what's most important to them.” Read more: https://t.co/EH3G0IisNt #ThrowbackThursday — Barbershop Books (@BarbershopBooks) January 3, 2019 The inspiration for the program came nearly 10 years ago when Irby saw one of his students at the barbershop, the news outlet writes. The student—who struggled with reading—was idle while waiting for his haircut and Irby thought that would have been the perfect time for him to work on his literacy skills. A few years later Irby—who taught in Harlem and the Bronx—moved forward with the launch of his organization. Irby believes that representation is everything and it’s important for Black youth to see themselves reflected in the literature that they consume. Through the program—which was created for youngsters between the ages of 4 and 8—the young readers provide suggestions for the types of books that they want to see in barbershops. Irby then ships those books to barbershops throughout the country. The program also allows companies, nonprofits, and individuals to sponsor book stations at barbershops within their communities. “I think many children think learning isn’t for them because they’re forced to choose between who they are and school. But you can be who you are and still be brilliant. You can like rap and be a great reader,” Irby told the news outlet. “Barbershops are like a cultural center for black males. For a lot of boys the barbers are a stable male role model and black boys go there regularly.” Since its inception five years ago, Barbershop Books has expanded into nearly 40 cities and is included in 120 barbershops. There has been a major effort to change the narrative surrounding Black youth and literacy. A group of fifth-graders at the Truesdell Education Campus in Washington, D.C. launched a book club after a Black student shared that he struggled with reading because he didn’t see himself reflected in the characters of the books that he was given. Saw A Lawsuit Coming From A Mile Away: Employee Of Ray Charles Foundation Claims She Was Fired For Exposing Possible Fraud

Source: CBS Photo Archive / Getty Former Employee Of The Ray Charles Foundation Claims She Was Fired For Exposing Fraud   According to The Blast , “The Ray Charles Foundation” is being sued by a former employee who claims she was axed go from the organization after she reported possible fraudulent transactions. Thu Tran reportedly worked as an accountant for the charitable organization beginning in 2014 until she was fired July 9, 2018. Tran claims in earlier this year, she complained to a member of the board of directors about “suspected misappropriate of funds, diversion of charitable assets, and other fraudulent conduct.” In her lawsuit she says she believed Valerie Ervin( president of the foundation) “had engaged in suspicious financial transactions related to a vehicle purchase, travel expenses, and home improvement, among others matters.” This is when Tran claims that Ervin “began to systematically strip away” her job duties and excluded her from board meeting she had previously attended regularly. Tran claims she was also kept out of “financial and tax audit meetings”. Tran believes that in “an effort to avoid unwanted attention and embarrassment of a possible investigation into misappropriation of funds and assets,” Ervin got rid of several employees of the foundation before ultimately firing her. Wake-Up Call To Democrats: ‘Black Women Get Things Done’

Read the original post:

A progressive organization wants to send a message to the Democratic Party and other liberal groups in the wake of last week’s midterm election victories: Place Black women in leadership positions. See Also: Blue Party: Say Hello To The Black Wave African-American women have been the backbone of the party and the progressive movement, yet Democrats have been selective in rallying around some Black women candidates while giving little support to others. To add insult to injury, Black women are all too often overlooked for leadership roles in the movement. Enter Yvette Simpson , who was named CEO of Democracy for America ( DFA ) on Wednesday and is poised to take the political action committee’s reigns on Jan. 1, when she will become the first woman to lead the organization. Simpson said she was on a mission to change the value that Democrats and progressives see in Black women. “My being in this role is a big deal,” Simpson told NewsOne on Wednesday. “For the first time the progressive movement is putting a Black woman at the helm of a traditionally white-led organization. I hope it sends a strong signal to the Democratic Party, the progressive movement and our nation. We know that our country is becoming more Black and Brown, and we need to have that representation.” Yvette Simpson takes helm of Democracy For America, Howard Dean's thing. pic.twitter.com/tjsg3HiRoI — Chris King (@chriskingstl) November 14, 2018 With a membership roll that exceeds one million regular donors and volunteers, DFA has a wide focus on progressive issues such as eliminating income inequality, dismantling structural racism and funding candidates of color. It launched in 2004 under the leadership of former Vermont governor and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean . “After an election year defined by historic firsts and the profound impact women of color played in delivering them, I couldn’t be more excited about Democracy for America’s future with Yvette Simpson as its new chief executive,” DFA chair Jim Dean , the brother of Howard Dean, said in a statement. Black women candidates, like Ayanna Pressley , are part of the 2019 freshman class in Congress who received no support from Democrats. The party opposed the progressive candidate during her historic run to become the first Black woman to represent Massachusetts in Congress. Even the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee backed her rival , incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano , in their primary race. “We went out and supported Ayanna Pressley from the start saying she is the right choice for this district,” said Simpson, who served as DFA’s federal electoral manager for the 2018 midterms. Simpson, a former Cincinnati City Council member who had an unsuccessful bid for mayor last year, said she planned to focus on recruiting and supporting candidates of color for the 2019 and 2020 elections. “You’re going to see us on the ground and partnering with (Black) organizations like the Collective PAC , Color of Change , Higher Heights to make sure we are finding the best candidates, candidates that represent the new American majority, Black and brown people, women, progressives, and make sure we give them the support they need to win,” she said with great anticipation of things to come. With a Black woman leading DFA, the organization will be able to build bridges to minority communities more effectively, she predicted that her crusade for the Democrats and the progressive movement to be more inclusive. “You and I both know that Black women get things done,” she declared. Megyn Kelly: I’ll Spill All the Tea on NBC, Unless…

Megyn Kelly is off the air. But she is not yet out of the building. Not yet, at least. Not officially, that is. The embattled reported is no longer appearing on NBC, as we’re sure most of our readers know quite well by now. She has been relieved of her duties as host of Megyn Kelly Today after anchoring a segment about controversial Halloween costumes… … which somehow devolved into Kelly wondering why blackface is considered racist . Despite a written apology and an on-air apology the day after this segment aired, Kelly was essentially fired by NBC not long after her initial comments went public and severe backlash quickly followed. However, while Kelly has no job to attend to this morning, she is still technically a network employee. The star and her legal team continue to negotiate a buyout, with many sources indicating that Kelly will be paid about $38 million to walk away. This is the approximate amount remaining on her contract. Now, though, TMZ cites another obstacle on the path to the full dissolution of this partnership. Insiders tell the website that NBC wants Kelly to sign a confidentiality agreement. This is standard operating procedure for this sort of situation — and executives are especially afraid of what Kelly might tell the world after she parts ways because she was unafraid to air NBC’s dirty laundry even while working for the company. Remember: Kelly interviewed one of Matt Lauer’s alleged sexual assault victims last year. She has also admitted that she knows about all of Lauer’s skeletons , which likely means she also has dirt of some higher-ups who may have covered up for these skeletons over the years. It makes sense for NBC to try and make sure Kelly cannot spill such damaging tea to the world after she signs a new deal with Fox News or whomever. Kelly’s lawyer, meanwhile, says his client is happy to sign this sort of nondisclosure agreement. For an additional $10 million. It’s also worth noting that Kelly wrote a book, “Settle for More,” in which she targeted Fox News Channel; and she has been very critical of that cable network since her departure in 2016. It’s certainly not beneath her to attempt to damage NBC after she settles her employment with the organization. The Today Show, for its part, is trying to move on. On Monday, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin greeted viewers during Kelly’s former timeslot, with Kotb opening the hour by saying : Today, as you know, we are starting a new chapter in the third hour of our show as it evolves. We want you to know that the entire TODAY family will continue to bring you informative and important stories, just as we always have. That’s great and all. But why do we have a feeling that the book on Megyn Kelly and NBC has not yet totally closed? View Slideshow: 11 Times Megyn Kelly Was Really Very Racist

Elizabeth Rooney: Engaged to Rosie O’Donnell!

Rosie O’Donnell is ready to walk down the aisle again. The long-time comedian confirmed on Monday that she’s engaged to Elizabeth Rooney. Speaking to People Magazine at the 15th-anniversary celebration of her organization, Rosie’s Theater Kids, in New York City, O’Donnell explained that the couple is very happy about its arrangement… … but may not get married any time too soon. “This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best,” O’Donnell told this publication. Describing Rooney, who is only 33 years old, as a “wonderful woman,” the former talk show host revealed the pair has been dating from two different cities since they went public in November 2017. They’ve managed to make the long distance set-up work, however. “She lives in Boston now and I live here in New York. It’s been a long-distance thing,” Rosie said, adding: It’s been great. I think she’s a wonderful woman.” Rooney is actually an Army veteran and was also an undefeated boxer during her time of service. “She’s very much an equal, she’s very much her own person and loves what she does. She’s a pretty unbelievable young woman,” O’Donnell gushed about her fiancee. What about the 23-year old age difference between the betrothed couple? What about it?!? Rosie simply joked to People: https://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2017/09/michelle-rounds-dead-of-apparent-suicide-ex-wife-of-rosie-odonne/ “I keep telling her I’m too old for her. But she doesn’t seem to care. “She’s like, ‘I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don’t know who I want to date?’ I’m like, ‘Alright I guess that’s true.’ “She has a lot of good points.” Of course, things get a little bit awkward when folks mistake Rooney for Rosie’s 20-year old daughter, Chelsea, who is pregnant. “A lot of people say, ‘Oh my god, Chelsea looks so great.’ I’m like, ‘That’s not Chelsea.’ That’s my soon-to-be spouse,” Rosie said. “It’s a little tricky. In the airport people say, ‘Rosie, can I have a picture of you and your daughter?’ She doesn’t seem to think it’s an issue at all. “Nobody ever does, but I do sometimes. I was already on Star Search by the time you were born.” Rosie was previously married to Michelle Rounds. She tragically died of apparent suicide in September of 2017 at age 46. They share one daughter, a five-year old named Dakota. O’Donnell also has four kids — son Parker, 23, son Blake, 18, and daughter Vivienne, 15, and 21-year-old estranged daughter Chelsea — with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell.

In My Feelings: Lil Wayne Snubbed By Eli Manning, Goes Off On Rant [Video]

Excerpt from:

Lil Wayne proves once again he doesn’t miss a thing when it comes to sports. Eli Manning inadvertently snubbed him and got put on notice by the famed rapper. Last week during a Q&A with ESPN Weezy sat alongside Giants starter Odell Beckham Jr.. While the interview was centered around his team’s chances at a playoff run the wide out confessed he was not happy with their offensive strategy. “I don’t feel like I’m given the opportunity to be the very best that I can be. I feel like I could score every quarter, if given the opportunity. I know those numbers could be double or triple that they are right now. I want to win. I want to be great. I feel like I can score every quarter, if I’m given the chance. That’s not the case” he explained. Naturally, the criticism got back to the organization and their impact players were questioned immediately. When asked about QB Eli Manning used TuneChi as scapegoat of sorts to avoid the baited inquiry. “I don’t watch Lil Wayne much, so I missed a lot of him” he responded. Well that didn’t too well with Wayne. In a series of Instagram posts, the Louisiana native addressed Manning and made it clear he was disappointed in the lack of respect Eli put on his name.  “Every time I’m doing an interview about you and somebody is about to … even when I’m in the crib and amongst the homies, every time someone says something bad about you, I be the first one to [defend you].” Weezy went on to express his frustration considering Manning is also from New Orleans. “And here you’re talking about you don’t watch Lil Wayne much. That’s fine. I’m cool with you. I don’t care what you watch, what you listen to, nothing like that. But come on, man, the hometown love — why you gotta do me like that, man? I didn’t say anything bad about you, man. So I’m not going to say anything bad about you now.” It seems the rant got back to the Giants as they played three Lil Wayne songs at their practice on Tuesday. Someone has a sense of humor.
